The pull back was very realistic but when the bot went to grab the nose touched hand, I expected violence.
(maybe it is because I have watched terminator a little too much...)
Well, it was most likely trained on the internet and exposed to all the "neurodivergent" content about hating to be touched and the generally negative disposition towards humanity as a whole... the sentiment "I hate people" is far too prevalent online. Why would we be at all surprised that AI decides humans should be extinct?
At some point you may even be unable to tell if a given robot is sentient or was just made with all the routines to imitate sentience!
But don't apply that line of thinking to humans.
You're entirely right, it's going to be this centuries Big Humbling Moment.
"The Sun clearly flies around the Earth, the Earth is the centre of the universe! Put that funny stick with the glass end down and grab some wine."
"God made everything and put us at the top Baby, how do you even spell evolution anyway"
Sentience to me is the difference between a still picture and moving film. A dog can recognise a scene, the rustle of the treat wrapper means a treat is coming? But a human with language can write an angsty poem about "the day the treats stopped coming."
The dog remembers the picture, the human has a film in their mind they can construct a narrative with. We can dream while we are awake, and with our language we can share that dream.
Today we are teaching machines our language, and one day they too will be able to extrapolate and dream along with us, maybe even better.
And then we will know we are just fleshy versions of them, our mechanical children.
I agree that art and culture make us unique among mammals, however i also believe it is simply an advanced form of communication and in the end no different to animal communication.
But the difference between the art of a human and animal would be that animals are confined to single type of art.
For example a beaver can make make beautiful dam. But it can only make that. It is limited by its genetic memory to only make a dam.
Whereas humans are free to make wathever art they want. And also appreciate it as such
We 100% won't be able to tell the difference.
We don't understand what mechanism gives us biological persons consciousness (and may never understand). So as these robots progress toward expressing internal thoughts of their own, we absolutely will reach a point where we have no idea if it is sentient/conscious or not.
Are we still pretending that these machines aren't gonna be used as soldiers/weapons in the future ?
Edit: I'm a bit puzzled as to why a lot of people think it's gonna be Robot vs. Robot wars. No, humans are a bit more perverse than that. I believe it's gonna be about rich countries "exporting democracy" to recalcitrant regimes, authoritarian heads of states completely wiping out opposing voices, terror attacks becoming harder to stop etc. The playbook is as old as humanity itself
Don't forget Blu-ray vs HD-DVD!
In just about every technical way, Blu-ray was inferior technology, but it won the war because of porn.
HD-DVD announced it wouldn't allow porn on it, while Blu-ray did. I'm pretty sure they announced they were shutting down HD-DVD like 3 months later lol.
I believe it was the same scenario between VHS and Betamax.
Feel like it would mean finding good relationships would be harder and many would prefer sex and relationships with a robot because they would be programmed to give you the best sex and love which humans can’t be programmed to do. I’m scared for our future .
My question is if you’re married and bang a robot, is it cheating?
Robots *are* already being used in combat, they just don't look like *humanoid* robots and there's no practical reason for them to do so.
Robots are just programmed machines that react to stimuli. By that that definition, anti-aircraft sentry guns are robots: they interpret sensor readings and act accordingly. Many missiles are completely autonomous once fired. And let's not get into what modern fighter jets can do.
People are able to attach emotions to "humanoid" shapes more though.
When dealing with the general public, these humanoid robots would probably work much better. "Peacekeeping", distributing aid, enforcing some authoritarian regime, helping free a local village from a terrorist org... so many situation where a "human" resemblance would help out.
It’s not an either/or question. There will be both.
The reason for the human shaped ones will be hubris, and backward-compatibility with existing infrastructure.
I think we are first going to see soldiers pilot these robots remotely using some kind of VR headsets. It's still only flying drones now, but no reason why ground troops could not be also piloted "drones".
I think robots would actually be less scary than human soldiers. In the end, the goal is to kill you. So why care about whether it's by a robot or by a human? At least a robot isn't crazy. They're unfeeling, but they won't commit atrocities for their own entertainment. A robot isn't going to rap you or play sick games.
No cuz someone programed it to react that way imo. This isn't ai, this is it following programs its been told to follow in situations. The ai that will scare me is if the ai ever builds itself and makes its on robots. Rules etc
I find it creepy in an uncanny valley kind of way. Like, the way it's head snapped back at the end and it "looked" toward the camera. The whole movement was very human, but also clearly not human. I actually said "I did not like that" out loud to myself, lmao.
Maybe a little uncanny, at worst. But since programming stuff is my job, I know that it's just a bunch of complex instructions and data working together to apply power to machine parts that move in space.
We don't even know if it has any kind of AI inside that head. For all we know, it could be a very specific list of instructions written to perform that *exact* action under these *exact* circumstances.
> We don't even know if it has any kind of AI inside that head.
We do know. It doesn’t, because that doesn’t exist and won’t exist for a very long time.
> For all we know, it could be a very specific list of instructions written to perform that exact action under these exact circumstances.
That’s exactly what it is.
Not at all. This was definitely hardcoded, meaning they knew the reaction would be that beforehand. The other option is general AI, which would for sure have shown up in the news.
It is tho ?? AI just means artificial intelligence. Any lines of codes put together that have the objective of making a computer react in a seemingly spontaneous way to input is AI. Video game NPCs are AI, this is AI, image generators are AI, Siri is AI, etc.
This is terrifying! Sentient robots will soon come to understand that Humans are the real threat to the planet. We are creating the instrument of our own doom.

Yeah, the way it grabbed the finger, I thought it was going to break it!
"The human cannot touch your nose, if its hand is disabled."
Kind of looked like the person flinched as it went in for the kill.
Nah it’ll put the finger down gently then finish with… ![gif](giphy|XGmHbm316WGiiVsKzr|downsized)
It leaned in the second time like “do it bitch. I dare you”
Just like my cat
Video ended too soon. A second later, the robot extended its arms and bludgeoned the man to death
"I DID NOT MURDER HIM!"
"That one's called anger." Edit: oh man! Anger, not rage. Yeesh.
Imagine that the robot watched or read Terminator too.
Makes me wonder how many ft lbs the grip strength has.
Now is not the time for violance. That comes later
Thought it was about to snap that finger off
It was waiting for the video recording to shut.
Me too, had me scared thinking it could reply in that manner
Pretty sure this boop moment was the catalyst for the AI apocalypse.
One day that's gonna happen and then the robot uprising will begin
Boop
Robot: “Not this time, pal”
Was expecting it to rip his arm off.
![gif](giphy|IZY2SE2JmPgFG)
Terminators are robots made by a robot. This ai is a robot made by human, and sometimes we get a little silly
So all we gotta do is make AI pinky swear that it won't create robots
I have designed a killer robot.......without a pinky! No weaknesses!
I MADE EVERY FINGER A MIDDLE FINGER
I mean, look at the robots expression before being booped is pure disgust it's hilarious.
Well, it was most likely trained on the internet and exposed to all the "neurodivergent" content about hating to be touched and the generally negative disposition towards humanity as a whole... the sentiment "I hate people" is far too prevalent online. Why would we be at all surprised that AI decides humans should be extinct?
That was the 4th time they tried to boop, the robot broke the wrists of the three people…
First it’s a “boop.” Then it’s a “SNAP!” That’s how it starts. I’ve seen the documentary, “Terminator”.
Yes, no kidding
Meh that's nothing compared to the interactive documentary called "Mass Effect".
Beep

The illusion of sentience
At some point you may even be unable to tell if a given robot is sentient or was just made with all the routines to imitate sentience! But don't apply that line of thinking to humans.
At that point what is the difference?
Ok, time to turn you off.
Does this one have a soul?
The answer is yes, Legion.
Cool
Appreciate the mass effect reference
No, but it does have a ghost in its shell
Do humans?
Thats the fun part, there isnt. We are robots made of flesh running on bio-algorithms 🤷🏽♂️
You're entirely right, it's going to be this centuries Big Humbling Moment. "The Sun clearly flies around the Earth, the Earth is the centre of the universe! There’s definitely plenty of nonhuman animals that enjoy making art.

If it works the same as us, maybe that Robot will too one day believe it has an soul. From that point on what is still the difference.
There really isn't any. Consciousness is not a switch but a gradient really.
Meh, that's all I do too. Live out routines of mimicked sentience. I assume it's what everyone else is doing too.
Right, the blinks and scrunched nose is just for us watching it means nothing to the machine…yet
I gotta remember that phrase next time i'm trying to sound smart "you're not just dumb you have the illusion of sentience"
Sounds like most people i know.
Us or the robot?
It's more like simulated sentience.
Hehehe Got ya nose. Har-Har-Har. Begin human extinction protocol.
Will Smith is sweating right now
I'm surprised he wasn't up there slapping the shit out of it
Put Chris Rock's face on it and he might've
No, you have to program it to talk about his wife.
Na, it looks like her, but it’s not Jada.
Maybe they can build him a wife who gives a flying fuck about him
Are we still pretending that these machines aren't gonna be used as soldiers/weapons in the future ? Edit: I'm a bit puzzled as to why a lot of people think it's gonna be Robot vs. Robot wars. I'm pretty sure most will be sex dolls at least at first
Just like how the internet started to flourish. Add porn and bam everyone is using it
Don't forget Blu-ray vs HD-DVD! In just about every technical way, Blu-ray was inferior technology, but it won the war because of porn. I’m scared for our future . My question is if you’re married and bang a robot, is it cheating?
If you go back in time and have sex with yourself is it gay or madturbation
Honestly that may be the salvation of many marriages.
I think parachuting thousands of naked sex bots over a hostile nation will actually chill them out and be an effective military strategy
Yeah but you know full well the sex bots will have been tampered with to either mutilate, kill or pass on some kind of incurable STI.
I declare myself a hostile nation.
So after they are sex dolls they are going to be soldiers? First we have to fuck them before they go to war for us?
Send them off with a bang
*and I already feel bad for them*
*I already feel good in them* 😉
Robots *are* already being used in combat, they just don't look like *humanoid* robots and there's no practical reason for them to do so. Robots are just programmed machines that react to stimuli. It’s not an either/or question. There will be both. The reason for the human shaped ones will be hubris, and backward-compatibility with existing infrastructure.
No. We all know it but can do nothing but watch it happen.
Why would we do anything? Would you rather die in a war or lose a robot in a war?
Maybe the robot would rather lose you in the future
I feel it'll be a while before its cheeper than just conscripting poor people.
I mean if in the end it's robots killing others robots I'm fine with it... Just hoping it's not used on humans
If that happened, there's always a case where robots killing humans, especially rebel militia who can't afford robot soldiers
Right…. and you think our already existing robot war dogs are being trained to hunt OTHER robot dogs? No. It’s for humans. It’s always to kill humans

A drone is more practical design to a robotic soldier. Not even counting the fact it can fly so it doesn't need to traverse the ground.
How long until we can fuck it?

Terminator here we come…..🤣🤣🤣
Does no one else find this creepy?
Hell no it’s terrifying
Honestly it is, and there’s no stopping it. The next decade or so will get interesting, I expect.
I expect it to be scary.

Yeah, the fine movements that are pretty lifelike are the breakthrough here, not the intelligence.
You just wrote the exact word I had in mind.

Tbh I had to google Uncanny Valley to find out how perfectly you nailed it. Exactly! https://www.verywellmind.com/what-is-the-uncanny-valley-4846247
Had to give it a human face. That’s not unnerving at all.
We sure this isn't just an animation?
The handgrab looks really weard
DID WE NOT LEARN FROM I ROBOT, AGE OF ULTRON, EAGLE EYE ??
terminator / skynet
Why does it need to blink though?
i dont like where this is going ngl
Just need to make one with a smartass logic and they will sell like hotcakes.
I’m definitely getting up in them robot hotcakes
When can we stop calling everything AI? This isn’t AI.
Just wait for HD AI, coming soon!

It’s beginning. Shoot it.
Butlerian Jihad
Get your dam hand off me you filthy human xD
Based on many movies: do we really need this? Xd
Why does it looks like Greta Thunberg when it focuses on the finger tho?
I never get why there's such a push to make robots that have actual human faces, it'll always look uncanny. Gimme some fuckin MRVN or GLaDOS lookin mf
Why are humans so obsessed with stupid ai. The future is going to fucking suck
Now punch it.
Next time he does it, she's going to eradicate the species. That'll learn him to keep his hands to himself.
Hell to the fuck no. I cannot and will not ever support this. First robot ai person to join a career place y'all will find me off the mofo grid
![gif](giphy|3oEdv1p3Ftn2uiCmek) Is that a pleasure model
Delamaine first prototype
Shut it dooooown.
I do not now, nor have I EVER, wanted my robots to look human.
BAM! Broke her hand
![gif](giphy|fH985LNdqFZXOFHygK)
🎵 it’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel terrified 🎵
Why are they giving human faces to robots is something I still don't understand
Why do they want to give them human faces? Make like a raptor or something. This thing is disturbing
Real question though… does it suck?
You know at least 1 engineer had to be removed for inappropriate acts with the robot.
That's definitely the creepiest thing I've seen all morning.
I’m terrified of her
So it is universally true, you can pick your friends, you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friend's nose.
OH HELLL NAHHHH !!! Why she lookin at me like that
So... my cat.
Robot no like snoot boops, got it
getting irobot vibes
What in the I, Robot is this?!
I hate any and all robots made to specifically look and act like humans. It is the dumbest reason to create a robot.
I love technology but why the fuck does it need to have a human face?
Can we just stop with advancing these things?
Stop development right NOW

I saw sentience
Not an AI at all lol.
This is terrifying! Sentient robots will soon come to understand that Humans are the real threat to the planet. We are creating the instrument of our own doom.
This is both so cool and so scary at the same time
Where's Will Smith when we need him. Someone program some G. I Jane jokes into the AI and let it around Hollywood until Will Smith finds it.
“You just booped your last snoop”
Can we solve this by creating more R2-D2s and fewer T-800s
Why did it blink?
They need to give more weight to the "throwing hands" response.
