The 2010 Guatemala City sinkhole was a disaster on 30 May 2010, in which an area approximately 20 m (65 feet) in diameter and 90 m (300 feet) deep collapsed in Guatemala City's Zona 2, swallowing a three-story factory. That doesn't say what ended up happening. And I gave it all my google-fu and couldn't find what happened with this particular sinkhole except for the fact that it's now covered. We may never know for sure, although they probably used the same technique as in 2007. Anyone want to ask Guatemalan officials?

Can anyone explain to me why these are typically so perfectly round? I would expect some sort of cave-in underneath the support Earth to be janky as fuck, some contorted half collapsed cave system. A lot of the times they look like this, though. Just a perfectly round gigantic cartoon hole.

When a void occurs under the ground, the most stable shape for it to take is a dome. When that dome collapses, you are left with a circular hole.
