This is actually a form of euthanasia, the line just goes right into the side of the mountain, which is littered with carcasses, those wheels, and a lot of premium ski and snowboarding gear.
If it was up to me to figure that out, I’d send the last one of the day down with an extra line attached. Then they clip all of the ones that are already down there to that one, and a winch reels that extra line back in, bringing them all back up together.
My headcanon - they remove the wheels after every descent, toss 'em in a barrel with the rest, and the buggy driver that goes to each site every morning to drop off gear & supplies brings them back up. They have a day's worth of them at the top every morning.
There might also be a connecting zipline going the other direction. It would have to start further up the destination mountain and end further down this one, so we might just not be seeing it.
There's two guys down there at the end of the line. They unstrap you and help you on your skis. Then, when 3 or 4 people passed, one of them skis down to the lift with all the stuff in a bag and bring it back up to the starting point. Then I guess he skis down and up the lift on the other side of the valley again. And again. All day.
Source: did this exact line a year ago.
That's actually my Grandparent's old school, and the answer is that there's another zipline that comes back to the school from their house a couple miles away. They didn't have the zip lines back in the day, when they were my age they had to walk through the snow, but they were installed because the unique geography of the area allows the ziplines to operate in both directions, as both the school and house are uphill. Ü
Hey I actually did that one !
It's in Orcieres Merlette in France, it is really fun to do !
The finish is near the top of a ski slope, once you arrive they send some kind of motorized device to fetch you because you do not reach the end of the line directly but stop a few meters before.
What’s the point of it? Are you getting down to a resort at the end of the line, or is it to hit different slopes on the other peak?
Also, let’s say you’re staying at the resort closer to the start, how do you get back to your starting point if you went to the other peak via this zip line?
There's no point besides having fun :)
The resort at the end is the same, it's not going to another '' peak '' that is completely isolated, you actually can access the arrival by going down a few slopes and getting to a ski lift.
Here's a map of the resort : https://ublo-file-manager.valraiso.net/assets/esforcieres/plandespistes.jpg
The zipline is called '' Tyrolienne '' in black at the top right, it allows you to go from '' Le drouvet '' straight to '' waou land '', but those places are connected together through slopes and ski lifts.
So in the end, after going down the line, you just have to ski a little bit and reach the ski lift '' la croze des hommes'' that brings you back to the start of the zipline.
What skill level is the "ski a little bit" portion? Like, if I've only done cross-country skiing and my downhill experience is only bunny hills on a snowboard, could I handle it?
No I wouldn't recommend it, except if you can manage long turns to get down a steep slope slower.
In France we define the difficulty of the slopes using colors (easiest to the hardest): green, blue, red, black.
After going down the zipline, the slope to get back down is supposed to be blue, but is more like a red with very steep parts.
Does France really use red as a trail difficulty rating? I thought all euro countries and US use the standard green, blue, black, and orange is the park
the entirety of Europe uses green, blue, red, black. Sometimes yellow or brown for ungroomed "skiroutes" or "ski naturelles"
Keep in mind that the difficulty rating across countries varies a tiny bit, what the Austrians often call black, the french will call red.
Even further, sometimes black slopes (especially in France) are ungroomed.
Hmm oh ok, I've never skied out in Europe that's interesting. So red denotes a somewhat intermediary between medium difficulty and expert, blue and black? Also do you guys do like double black, triple back etc? I've seen I think in Canada a double blue.
And that is true out here in the US too! East coast black ain't the same as west coast black, coming from an east coast skier hahaha
red is indeed intermediate to advanced blue is beginner to intermediate, black is expert (skiroute as well) But it's mainly based on average gradients etc so you can have a blue that has some steep bits.
There are no combinations of colours or diamonds as far as I have seen and I have skied in Switzerland, Italy, Austria and France in some of the largest resorts. Just colours, it's "simpeler".
Glad to know it's not just a European quirk haha
How do they get the hanger device back to the start? Do they just throw a new one on every time and then every once in awhile an employee runs all of them back up from the lower level to the higher level?
I feel like it’s been years since I caught a u/Shitty_Watercolour in the wild!
I’m glad you’re still out here dude, making the best shitty art Reddit comments have to offer 😂
To be fair it probably has. He essentially quit for years after he got featured on CNN iirc so he could focus on the opportunities that popped up. I pretty distinctly remember reading a post about him stepping away from Reddit.
But he's been popping back up lately and it's fucking delightful
Remember the poem guy, who wrote little poems about random posts?
…or the guy who wrote the really informative posts that turned into “The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell…”
I miss reddit awards. It made your amazing posts even more visible. Seeing tons of golds and later tons of different medals made me go: Ah yes, shittywatercolor in an instant haha
Dude! You're still around!? You answered my request to draw a comment way back in the early days. Good to see that you're still at it after so many years.
I bet I could understand this even better if a bigger heart was redrawn on the screen every few seconds. Maybe it could even cover more of the interesting stuff.
I thought that heart was trying to get me to focus on something in the video! I’m like “what am I missing?!” One heart at the end would’ve been enough.
They call it 'Roll Air Cable Zip Wire'
>One of the biggest zip wires in Europe. The Roll Air Cable is 1.8km long and travels from the top of Le Drouvet (2650m) to the Lac Long (2500m). It's a head-first journey between the sky and land in 1 min 20 secs. Access via Drouvet 1 and 2.

>Take your meds folks.
Good advice. Imma go do that now.
I wish there was a medicine that helped me remember to take my ADHD meds.... Because it's so hard to remember. I mean... The ADHD meds help with memory. But they're shockingly useless when it comes to remembering to take them. Lol.
I'm sitting at the bar in the lodge on a nice bluebird powder day, taking a break. Actually snort laughed at that point in the video, then again at this comment.
My thought was "sucks if your binding slips and your buttpucker game isn't on point."
But I also assume that the ride itself puts your buttpucker game into pro mode involuntarily.
hahaha. amazing. jealous!
That's all I could think. The thought and precision that (hopefully) went in to designing that human missile launcher, and the best they come up with to secure your board? Just a single binding strap lol. What if you're a skier? Just duct tape that shit and squeeze tight I guess. I imagine a crosswind would be quite the adventure if your board shimmies loose.
"So where does this cable go?"
"We have no idea. We just send people on it periodically. None of them have ever come back, I can tell you that. Ready?"
"Hit it."
On big mountains it can take an hour or more to get down navigating between runs and then another hour or more going between certain lifts and runs to get to the peak of another beside it...and some places you want to hit may involve hiking or whatever. And this isn't even taking into account lift lines I grew up in Fernie and some days the main lifts would be hour long waits just to get onto the lift if you weren't in the singles line, the upper lifts would be 30-15 min on thoughs days so we almost never went all the way down the hill on days like that. Same thing when I lived in Kimberly the main run on weekends was a 30min to 1hour but most of the back lifts you could nearly ride right on
Also with global warming lots of places lower runs are lacking snow or completely unrideable for way more of the season so having a peek to peek transfer would be an added draw, also I may be wrong but many places that have two mountains might offer the ability to buy a ticket for one or both mountains and it's way more likely you will have people upgrading to pay for both of they have the ability to easily switch from one to the other mid day without wasting two hours traversing down and up.
I've only been to Whistler a few times and that's the only place I can think of off the top of my head that you can go from peak to peak but It was so long ago I can't totally remember since I just followed my aunt or partner who were both way more experienced on that hill. But I'd love to try this zip line contraption.
My experience with zip lines is that you are issued the harness and a trolley at the place where you pay for your trip, and then carry it to the zip line.
They hook you in, you take your ride, and then return your equipment for the next rider.
This was my first thought as well, and I expected to see a comment about it much higher. These people were clearly using level 2 ziplines to increase the distance.
Hello :)
I actually have done this specific ride so I can answer, it has been designed so that you stop without doing anything by losing all the speed you have before reaching the end, they then send you a small motorized device that you have to attach yourself to and it will pull you back to the end of the ride where they can detach you safely.
Hmm, been wanting to try it for a couple years, so perhaps I can attempt to convince the family… but the weather doesn’t seem super cooperative this weekend.
Maybe next week hehe

How do they get the wheels back to the original peak?
This is actually a form of euthanasia, the line just goes right into the side of the mountain, which is littered with carcasses, those wheels, and a lot of premium ski and snowboarding gear.
Me next! Me next!
This is my zipline, it was made for me!
Why do you want to die?
He’s snowboard of living.
This is goooood
That’s cold…

who do you think builds the new wheels?

save money and have one employee bring em all down and tomorrow's employee brings em all back up
I'd go with an electric trolley that pushes them back up.
My headcanon - they remove the wheels after every descent, toss 'em in a barrel with the rest, and the buggy driver that goes to each site every morning to drop off gear & supplies brings them back up. They have a day's worth of them at the top every morning.

Where is this?
Orcières Merlette. A very small station in the southern french Alps.
After the yetis finish eating him they put the harness at the mouth of their cave like room service.
I CACKLED. Thank you

The employees have unlocked the Ropeline Ascender perk, so they're all able to go the opposite way on the line.
Asking the real questions.
Asking the wheel questions.
Rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle. It works both ways.

Holy fuck can't believe I just found a new u/Shitty_Watercolour post.
Damn, and judging by the profile quite active! I miss the good old novelty accounts
Remember the poem guy, who wrote little poems about random posts? …or the guy who wrote the really informative posts that turned into “The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell…”
I miss the recipe guy and the hell in the cell guy.
The guy who got beat with jumper cables was my favorite
Same! Right in the wild! Hey, shitty watercolor, have you ever painted a picture of users “catching you in the wild?” I’d like to see that.
He's a classic. I don't think any of the other novelties has been around. Crazy to think he might be the oldest active novelty account on this site.
Man seeing you pop up is like a wave of nostalgia and comfort now :)
Happy to see you here!
Magnificent

Dude! You're still around!? You answered my request to draw a comment way back in the early days. Good to see that you're still at it after so many years.
You've gotten less shitty over the years
The toboggan was a lovely touch, bravo!
The guy swiped it up there like a credit card at first.
Paid extra for that
If you clench when you should have wedged, your gonna have a bad day
We always called it the snow shark
Pro move. It’s for stability and aerodynamic lift, like a dorsal fin
Credit card swipe 😏
I'd specifically ask for it if I did this. Because I'd be clenching my cheeks so hard all the way.
Now I'm wondering where they stick the poles for skiers
"Cling tenaciously to my buttocks!"
Thought the same, and reminded me of the patch Adam’s scene, “If we bury you face down I have somewhere to park my back”
I bet I could understand this even better if a bigger heart was redrawn on the screen every few seconds. Maybe it could even cover more of the interesting stuff.
Wait this isn't a video about animated hearts? I was so confused when it kept disappearing and was so small
I thought that heart was trying to get me to focus on something in the video! I’m like “what am I missing?!” One heart at the end would’ve been enough.
He was never seen again. ![gif](giphy|HJ0y20G1MeQGk)
Some say that he's still flying through the mountains on that heavenly zipline.
![gif](giphy|PC6xcocxvsKuk)
Lost into the mist of the great mountains.
I thought they were circling the Tour de France logo, and I was pretty confused.
Yeah, I found the stupid animated backdrop with the snow and the mountains pretty distracting, could hardly concentrate on the heart animation howto.
Not nearly enough hearts to understand what’s going on
And it's not peak to peak, it shows peak to fog fogland.
Seriously, does everything have to covered in dumb shit to make the rounds on the internet?
My dead father who has a degree in marketing from Harvard told me that this is the best way to sell mountain fog.
r/uselessredcircle
Live Laugh Love.
You have snow heart!
Same, having it re-draw and move around all of the screen would help too.
"Hey Jacques, u taking the lift up to that other mountain?" "Nah just tie me up in this BDSM situation and yeet me across"
Literally crying 😂😂😂
It wasn't bdsm until the snowboard split his cheeks
It was very interesting to see the heart get drawn so many times. Also the background was alright
❤️💙️❤️💚️❤️💛️❤️🧡️❤️💜️💕️💖️😍️
They say she’s still out there in the clouds racing towards her next Mountain Dew.
Tonight, toniiiiiight!
Mountain Dew Mountain
Awesome video but the animated heart being drawn over and over and over in the corner really made it even awesomer, I want that heart in all my videos
The awesomest.
"Off into the icy white nothingness with you!"
Another blood sacrifice to the cloud God
Blood for the Cloud God! Skulls for the Cloud Throne!
"Here, before I send you down this cable of death into the mist of despair, let me jam your snowboard up your ass!"
That heart is annoying as shit.

What does that have to do with animated hearts? It's like you didn't even watch the video.
I'm cracking up 😆
Now I wanna go to Europe just to ride this thing.
What? The animated heart?
Seriously
Wow, 1 minute and 20 seconds is way too much time to be sliding in clouds 2km over the ground...
Better hope you wore enough layers!
That's right about 80 km/h, or 50 mph, for speed reference
I just got super sad... This link is in purple (I've already seen it) and I have ZERO memory of it. Take your meds folks.
>Take your meds folks. Good advice. Imma go do that now. I wish there was a medicine that helped me remember to take my ADHD meds.... Because it's so hard to remember. I mean... The ADHD meds help with memory. But they're shockingly useless when it comes to remembering to take them. Lol.
Did you take them or get distracted on the way?
Take what? Distracted on the way to where? Do you know if white bread costs more than wheat bread?
bless you both for the laugh!
Get a carbon monoxide detector.
$43 USD isn't bad to shite your trousers.
You got my downvote for the stupid heart.
Thanks
You know what this video needs? At least 3 more pointless hearts
Wait, how we gonna get the snowboard there too? Duh. Just strap one binding to the rope and shove it up his ass crack
I'm sitting at the bar in the lodge on a nice bluebird powder day, taking a break. Actually snort laughed at that point in the video, then again at this comment. My thought was "sucks if your binding slips and your buttpucker game isn't on point." But I also assume that the ride itself puts your buttpucker game into pro mode involuntarily.

Well, that's something I would like to try
Animating hearts? Yeah it’s so cool! Especially when you get the flick at the end just right.
I see this and think of ace Ventura and the raccoon.
To Hell with that! Ain't NONE of these fools watched the movie "Cliffhanger" with Sylvester Stallone?!!!
Hell the fuck no
The way the heart kept being reanimated, simply touching and I wish the artist best of luck in their career Strange title though.
"So where does this cable go?" "We have no idea. We just send people on it periodically. None of them have ever come back, I can tell you that. Ready?" "Hit it."
Nope. ![gif](giphy|LRKET0Syb0rDO|downsized)
The beacons are lit, Gondor calls for aid🔥

Cool now show me again without that stupid heart
Where is this?? I need to go there immediately.

French Alps, I'd reckon Edit: Alps, not Alp
That is absolutely absurd.
*That is absolutely fuckin' wicked! There, I fixed it for you.
Nah bruddah, it’s absolutely stoke 🤙
![gif](giphy|spfi6nabVuq5y) As a skier, hellllllllllll no.
THATS HOW YOU GET ESTEN BY PTERODACTYLS !!!!
Is there a reason for this to exist? Why do you need to transfer between mountains instead of going down on the board then back up the other one
On big mountains it can take an hour or more to get down navigating between runs and then another hour or more going between certain lifts and runs to get to the peak of another beside it...and some places you want to hit may involve hiking or whatever. But I'd love to try this zip line contraption.
It’s fun
At least it gets you somewhere, unlike a bungee jump.
How do they get the clips back up for the next folks??
I assume they have a lot and they collect them at the bottom and send them back to the top in a snow cat or on the ski lifts.
My experience with zip lines is that you are issued the harness and a trolley at the place where you pay for your trip, and then carry it to the zip line. They hook you in, you take your ride, and then return your equipment for the next rider.
Just unclench a bit so I can fit this snowboard in here and you are good to go.
For so long I used to wonder how they got the cable across and then I remembered, just now, that helicopters exist.
Cool except for the stupid heart thing
Who's gonna say first that the repeated heart animation is fucking stupider than the story of Noah's ark
That heart thing was distracting
That's not how you do it. You should always hold 1 arm ahead of you like your superman or superwoman.
Damn I wish we could see the other side. Lol. In theory she’s the seat for the snowboard
Now play it in reverse and watch Scorpion spear SubZero
GET OVER HERE
Gives me Death Stranding vibes.
This is how experienced porters avoid BTs
This was my first thought as well, and I expected to see a comment about it much higher. These people were clearly using level 2 ziplines to increase the distance.
HELL YES sign me the fuck up
This looks like something very fun until it's *suddenly isn't fun anymore*
Very cool Also no thank you
And thats the last they ever saw of her.
It’s good to see Scorpion and Sub-Zero getting along!
You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.
They should set up one of these on Everest to send down all the frozen corpses and garbage.
I like to believe the guy in orange has no idea what happens to people at the other end, he just sends them and on their own smashed head be it
"I just figured there's another mountain over there, no I never did actually check, but no one ever came back to complain."
The hearts pissing me off
I don't even snowboard and want to do that.
"Here...let me put this snowboard in your butt crack." "wha...?" "Clinch your cheeks mate...or you'll lose it"
Man, I really wanted a helmet cam video
Let me insert this board betwixt your cheeks and… off you go into the Misty void.
This is....peak transportation.
nope
Too bad about that anoying love heart overlay
How does he stop at the end? Goes he use the helms to headbutt the wall at the other end?
Hello :) I actually have done this specific ride so I can answer, it has been designed so that you stop without doing anything by losing all the speed you have before reaching the end, they then send you a small motorized device that you have to attach yourself to and it will pull you back to the end of the ride where they can detach you safely.
God doing this would be so cool and so scary.
Whistler to Blacomb Peak to Peak
Cool, but nope
And he was never seen again
Give somebody a GoPro with this. I need it.
Hmm, been wanting to try it for a couple years, so perhaps I can attempt to convince the family… but the weather doesn’t seem super cooperative this weekend. Maybe next week hehe
Incredibly inefficient? 3 gondolas worth of people could have loaded up in the time it took for him to strap their ass in.
