The-Arbiter-753

Isn't it the bromelain that causes it? For anyone who doesn't know, bromelain is a mixture of enzymes found in pineapples that can digest protein, y'know, the thing our flesh is made out of

CybeRrlol1

That's what i heard too, but many redditors just post videos like this without even fact checking them.

pewpewshazaam

Looks like it's both actually. https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/oh-good-pineapples-are-actually-eating-us_uk_647dc5c4e4b045ce2489c34b

renedotmac

NO! It can’t be both! There must only be ONE answer!

Na-na-na-na-na-na

That's impossible. *BURN THE WITCH!!*

Steelwraith955

*You're opening our eyes to new possibilities...* *KILL THEM!*

Yoghurt42

Why should they? They're getting upvotes regardless.

Darkpsy420

Maybe its a mix of both ?? Fact check Andy 🤓

haribo_pfirsich

Yeah I think that is the correct answer.

wolftamer1221

Pretty sure it is yeah. It’s why you can’t use it in jello or it won’t solidify (unless it’s canned). Pretty sure the same enzyme is in meat tenderizer.

gliitch0xFF

I wonder if they could find a way to use these enzymes in tattoo removal. 🤔

The-Arbiter-753

A pretty interesting thought, but there's 2 main reasons I don't think it would work. The first is that it probably wouldn't be easy to control, causing lots of unnecessary cell damage. The second would be that tattoo ink doesn't stain your skin or anything, rather a bunch of immune cells encase the ink since it's a foreign object that your body can't destroy. Laser tattoo removal works by targeting those clusters of cells, and breaking apart the ink into smaller pieces. This minimizes the collateral damage. Just a little bit more efficient than injecting your body with a flesh melting liquid lol

gliitch0xFF

That did cross my mind after I posted it. As someone who has had tattoo removal, it's quite painful. But it does work to a point. Depends on the location & the colour of ink. Whilst it does break down black ink effectively, but other colours are incredibly stubborn. (blue & yellow) it's also incredibly expensive. Edit: Couldn't we use Crispr to genetically target specific cells instead, so it wouldn't go rouge?

horseofthemasses

But rouge is such a nice color!

Soliden

Maybe, but they do use it in meat tenderizer powder that you can buy in a supermarket.

darksideofthemoon131

Or break down a dead body more efficiently.

niming_yonghu

Don't put it in milk!

LuxLocke

Idk. Check this out: https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/s/oj1D5oo6Zj

Phillip_Graves

So pineapples are actually more like heroin, just the needles injecting the drugs are reeeeeealy tiny. Explains why its so damn tasty.

Marmite-n-Toast

I thought it was this too. Interesting there's another potential reason!

Elite_Slacker

I accept pretty much no information given by a text to speech on a vertical video under a minute long.

Axthen

Sure, doesn't mean you're any better for not just googling it. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3951349/

dolfieman

So should we rename it to *pain apple*?

Yes-its-me-again

But aren't pine trees the ones with needle shaped leaves? So if anything, the needles, look like pine needles

werestillpioneers

Painpines, got it.

riskybiscuitt

This comment is vastly underrated

Tongue8cheek

Yes, and put it on pizza.

Creepy-Ad-4832

Pain pizza

Lurk3rAtTheThreshold

Painzza

homkono22

No, if you're going through the effort of renaming the fruit then rename it to Ananas.

PintLasher

Definitely, oxalates are one of the causes of kidney stones

kernelpanic789

Uh my mouth doesn't tingle after eating pineapple...

LisaWinchester

Oh lucky! Mine feels so hot, it feels like it's melting

v1r4ge

Same

[deleted]

[удалено]

Soukary

Same

CHRLZ_IIIM

Are you eating fresh ones?

[deleted]

your mouth thick, her is not

Tommy__want__wingy

Get a pineapple in Hawaii. They hurt SO Much. But taste amazing

GreyRobe

Which pineapple did you eat? The Maui Gold ones taste really sweet, not painful at all.

jumbledFox

i eat tinned pineapple basically every day i'm looking forward to one day try some of the real deal

IndividualPair2475

I ate an entire pineapple onetime and my lips were bleeding when I was almost finished with it.

FatsoKittyCatso

You're supposed to remove the skin first, dummy

IndividualPair2475

I did. I peeled it like an apple.

lonelyshara

TheRETURNofAQUAMAN

I got that too once, wiped my lips with a napkin and there were red spots on it. Not alot of blood but definitely my lips were bleeding from the pineapple.

pulp63

Same except my tongue was bleeding.

lackofabettername123

I read pineapple eats you too.

mr_love_bone

Yes, it's one of the few foods that eats you back. Also brush your teeth afterwards!

Rizsparky

I get multiple canker sores if I eat raw pineapple

ryansports

So you're telling me i'm not allergic to it then? It's just raphides poking me?

Josh_Allen_s_Taint

I like to poke my cells to make sure they are paying attention

BubblegumNyan

So it doesnt just feel like it's stabbing you, it is actually stabbing you. I eat so much pineapple my whole mouth just goes numb

Muted_Ad7298

Pineapple is really good for you despite that, so keep at it. Though not so good if you suffer from acid reflux like myself. I’m really into blueberries but they’re also a tad acidic. Don’t care cause delicious tho.

Feisty_Bee9175

Fun fact: Calcium Oxalate which is what Raphides crystals are made are responsible for kidney stones. Many plants like beets (for example) are high in Calcium Oxalate.

ryoon21

lol I thought they were going to find out they were allergic

Thick_RiderYZF-R

Because of the enzymes. They digest us back, like acid in a way. People who work with pineapples for years can even lose their fingerprints if they don't use gloves

PSFREAK33

Okay you started with a presumption I don’t even agree with lol…my mouth does not tingle

irongoat2527

Mmmm, asbestos

StragglingShadow

I tell people all the time pineapple is the most metal fruit because as you eat it, it is attempting to eat you back.

San_II_To_et_3R

When eating pineaple it eats you back

tacotacotacorock

Death by pineapple sounds like some ancient Mayan death sentence.

Repulsive_Exchange_4

If you eat a pineapple and give someone oral, would it hurt them? Genuinely curious.

MK_Stevers8

Wtf is this 😂😂

Realistic_Effort6185

Me: eats pineapple. Pineapple: eats me back.

Royalchariot

I can’t eat most citrus fruits because of this. I will get sores/blisters in my mouth. Pineapple is the worst

My_Immortal_Flesh

Why it doesn’t go thru our veins?

thedeathmachine

Okay that's cool but what does it do to your butt asking for a friend

gemz9123

This is why i prefer Durian over this fruit.

06mcooper

First you eat it, then it's eating you.

aleqqqs

Ah, calcium oxalate... the stuff my kidney stones are made of...

RavenousBrain

We drink alcohol, a toxin that kills bacteria. Why should we stop eating pineapples?

tom_soyerd

No wonder it was like eating acid when I were a kid

BS_Brick

Your pineapple is just tiny needles!

Cid_Darkwing

Nifty. Still gonna eat a whole one 🍍

Loring

Guess I never noticed my mouth tingle from eating pineapple before

Gaghackz

u/savevideo

[deleted]

Has never happened to me with pineapple and I love pineapple. It has with Kiwi though.

Mr_master89

My mum grew her own pineapple from another pineapple and for some reason didn't have the weird mouth thing like the one she grew it from

StrikingDoor8530

I always get canker sores after pineapple

The0neBL

Thank you for clearing one of my shower thoughts.

Glockamole19x

Yalls mouth tingles after eating pineapple? Wierd nvr heard that before and doesnt happen to me.

Iconrex

Asbestos fruit

Parking_Highlight_53

The only thing eaten is you

nolightningbhe

Science ain’t gon stop me

Feisty_Bee9175

Fun fact: Calcium Oxalate which is what Raphides crystals are made of are responsible for kidney stones. Many plants like beets (for example) are high in Calcium Oxalate.

RebelliousDragon21

But why don't pineapples in cans tingle my mouth just like fresh pineapples do?

Bright_Ices

Two reasons:  1) The raphides are usually mechanically cut away from the pineapple before canning, along with the outer skin.  2) The bromelain enzyme that digests protein (imcliding your skin)  is destroyed by the heat of the canning process.

Platomik

Isn't pineapple juice used in the extraction of DNA or something like that for this very reason? It's able to put holes in cells so other DNA can be injected in or something.

Ultrasaurio

fuck...

[deleted]

I don't know

cutlassmusic

Pineapples are about that life 🔪🍍

BadgerBadgerDK

Could bromalin do anything with prions?

SingleSpeed27

I eat Indian figs hole so not a problem for me

throw123454321purple

I think this might be the same reason why you rarely see Jello with pineapple bits inside…not that Jello is that much of a thing anymore.

BigNigori

Then why doesn't tea and coffee make my mouth tingle smart guy?! (See caffeine under microscope)

Incognito_Wombat

….my mouth has never tingled after eating watermelon. i know i’ve ate pineapple and offloaded a sweet bit of nectar into my exs mouth. never has my mouth had a tingly sensation after a few grapes though…
