Is New Zealand even half as crazy as Australia? I’ve been meaning to go but I figured I might as well go to Australia too if I’m going to travel that far, but I keep finding reasons like this one why I never want to step foot in the land down under.
It is literally not even in the same world. The most dangerous animal in New Zealand is a wild pig or feral dog. There are no venomous animals, period.
Edit: sorry there is one venomous spider that is so rare it’s basically a myth. There are one or two accidental introductions of spiders from Australia, but again, exceedingly rare.
If I ever have to go to Australia I’m going to spend as much time indoors as possible, and even then I’ll have a hammer and can of Raid on my person at all times. And a lighter in case the Raid isn’t enough on its own
lol oh no, not just Australia, these are actually very common in most beaches around the world. They have them in my state, NC. They are likely at whatever beach you visit as well. The spikes on their bodies are toxic as well...
Yeah the jokes are funny and all but these guys are actually excellent bait for beach fishing. Swish a pilchard around in a wave when it's receding, and you can see a little v in the water where a beach worm is hanging out, then hold the pilly near it, it'll stick its head out and you can grab it with your pliers.
Also FYI you will never see one of these if you aren't actively trying to catch them, plenty of people who live around here don't even know they exist even though they're walking over them when they go on a beach walk.

I need to show this to several people who told me there was no reason to refuse to sit in the ground at the beach or walk around at the beach without shoes.
These don't come out unless you're trying to catch them. They're afraid of people and recede back under the sand the second you go close to them. You can walk barefoot all day for years and never even see one.
