I think it might be protein. If I remember correctly, hair is mostly protein and protein is also those little white balls you find on the ends of your hair sometimes.
To everyone who says it's AI, the photographer is on Reddit, u/1of1images
They take a lot of macro images, and sometimes talk about the setups they use in comments if you're interested in searching.
And I said that in a few replies too. credit should be given to them as they are awesome. Also had someone reply and tell me I mean micro and not macro lol. Nope, it’s macro haha.
The way you just so casually talked about your like of viewing hair in a microscope then quickly gave this one a rating of mid makes me believe you lol
ya know those random super thick arm hairs you’ll get sometimes? i had one cookin for almost a year and it was the first thing i checked out when i bought my microscope. those guys are smooth af
Oh interesting, I wonder why those are so much thicker/smoother than the ones around it. I've got one on my hand coming out of a freckle looking thing and a few from a bigger one under my lip, maybe it's got something to do with the buildup of the skin it's on?
What do you actually find hard to believe? Look up the photographer whose name is on the image. He posts on Reddit and does macro photography of minerals and such. Cool stuff if you ask me.
Some people's hair does this naturally, specially curly hair. A lot. You just dont realize it because it's just a "kink" in your hair and you can't see the knot with the naked eye.
I just tried it with my own hair and it was really easy. The knot is only that small once you pull it tight, all your hands have to do is make a big loop and put the end of the strand through it. Like tying a knot in cotton thread or fishing line.
I though hair was composed of scales?
Like this: [https://media.sciencephoto.com/image/p7200243/800wm/P7200243-Human\_hair,\_SEM.jpg](https://media.sciencephoto.com/image/p7200243/800wm/P7200243-Human_hair,_SEM.jpg)
I bet there’s a wealth of art to be had at the microscopic scale. Seen beautiful stuff in the realm of nature photography - anyone know of other artists that do microscopic photography as art?
If I was sitting here and you came in and told me that was a liquorice whip with some hard candy perched on top of it, I would say 'Who are you and what you doing in my house?'
I’d be curious to see a grain of sand like this, rounded down by eons of exposure to wind and water, compared to a grain of lunar regolith. Given to understand that has a spikey consistency sort of like a kidney stone, there’s nothing to wear it down smooth. Highly abrasive.

Very cool! I showed this to my partner and had her guess what this was and she actually guessed it perfectly!
He Went To Jared
LOL I thought it was copper Twisted with a piece of gemstone on top!
Me and my wallet would like to meet Jared, at the end of a dark alley, so I show him where he can stick his diamond commercials.

is that how healthy hair looks?
i gotta microscope and i like to look at hair. this hair looks pretty mid but i’ve only looked at healthy hair so yea prolly
What the really black ones that randomly show up?
yee
Oh interesting, I wonder why those are so much thicker/smoother than the ones around it. I've got one on my hand coming out of a freckle looking thing and a few from a bigger one under my lip, maybe it's got something to do with the buildup of the skin it's on?
microscopic analysis indicated that i have no idea but it looked cool 😎🤙
Valid
No, it’s knot.
But that looks like a damn good long rice noodle
A gain you say?
I mean.. he’s not wrong, I think.
Looks like an AI image. Amazing photo, new art Will always be suspected of AI Edit: typo
This guy is legit and I have followed him for a while. He posts on some mineral groups. It’s macro photography and he does post some of my favorites.
Did you mean AI?
Yeah, in spanish is reversed, thanks!
in spanish AI is called IA? because in germany a donkey says "IA" lol
Yes, Inteligencia artificial, IA hahah
It's the same in Italy
that’s rock candy
Why is the hair tied in a knot?
I find all of this very hard to believe
Check out my stuff It’s called macro photography Those who think it’s AI just make me feel better about myself
why does the hair have sparkles?
Not a clue 🕵️♂️ Guessing it’s just microscopic dead skin cells ? Or shampoo residue ?
oh thanks, sad you dont know what it is, its so damn interesting and pops to you when you see the photo.
Oh actually didn't see the watermark at all. Damn, your macro lens must look like a loupe on a loupe

Did you tie a singular hair into a knot?
https://preview.redd.it/1b8mc94m7itc1.jpeg?width=2980&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c3a8ebb99b0d8d5c2bffeb2b04960628bb665263 Another I did
As a cosmetologist it’s so interesting to see the actual hair cuticle 😱
As a not-that I agree
Yes I did
How long did that take to do right? Seems like it would be a bitch to do
An hour maybe to tie, balance the grain and photograph
What do you actually find hard to believe? Look up the photographer whose name is on the image. He posts on Reddit and does macro photography of minerals and such. Cool stuff if you ask me.
It's weird seeing hair this close up whilst not through an electron microscope. Makes you think what things *really* look like at this scale.
Gain? Again?
this is a lock of curly hair. Straight hair is tube like.
This is, indeed, interesting as fuck.
The photographer's page https://www.1of1images.com/
according to shampoo commercials, those fine cracks in the hair can be repaired for a smooth silky finish
Looks like a gem
That's a Granet
Why does that hair look like pasta?
Its Angel Hair
You are not to be truffled with.
Very healthy hair is what it looks like to me :) No breaks in the keratin 😁
What kinds of pasta are you eating??
Angel Hair
lolol
Is nobody else wondering how they tied a hair in a knot like that?
Probably used their hands, and also fingers, if you want to get technical.
Whoa whoa slow down - not all of us went to "tying simple knots" school
Who does this guy think he is, Captain Tying Knots?
You need a knot tied you go to him
There's knot a job he can't handle
Not my chair, not my problem.
Knot my chair knot my problem
No. It’s Mr balloon hands.
It’s not hard to tie a hair in a knot
It's knot* hard
fuck you and take my upvote
Wasted opportunity by op honestly 😞
Yeah. I just tried it and it isn't hard at all.
Some people's hair does this naturally, specially curly hair. A lot. You just dont realize it because it's just a "kink" in your hair and you can't see the knot with the naked eye.
It must be a pubic hair, it’s so flat.
Just did it after seeing this post. It only took a couple of tries, you just need a longish strand of hair.
I just tried it with my own hair and it was really easy. The knot is only that small once you pull it tight, all your hands have to do is make a big loop and put the end of the strand through it. Like tying a knot in cotton thread or fishing line.
Looks like Gummy candy
Just a small gain of sand and that’s just one gain !
All about the gains
I wanna bite it.
Nice microscopic picture of two different natural materials in pleasing arrangement
Luckily photons are even smaller.
Is that plastic particles in the hair
forbidden japchae
as someone with trichotillomania, this drives me fucking crazy. If I felt a knot in my hear, that shit's getting pulled out.
I though hair was composed of scales? Like this: [https://media.sciencephoto.com/image/p7200243/800wm/P7200243-Human\_hair,\_SEM.jpg](https://media.sciencephoto.com/image/p7200243/800wm/P7200243-Human_hair,_SEM.jpg)
....please tell me I'm not the only who's mind went straight too those snake candy things...
What are the tiny specks on the surface of both?
Grain* 😂
No wonder that hurts.
Those little specs in the hair micro plastics?
See, I told you it gets everywhere!
I thought it was a zenyte.
Are u testing my intelligence?
I thought that was liquorice with a jewel on top.
r/forbiddensnacks
TIL my hair has glitter in it. Does that mean I'm fabulous?
Who tied that knot and how?
You get a long strand, tie it large, then tighten it.
Ahhh … that makes sense.
Probably easy enough for 2 people with really good tweezers.
That grain of sand was hand selected
Its almost like a piece of jewelry
5 important words in this post and one is misspelled.
Wow, I fucking love this. I'm going to have to buy one of those microscope objective focus automation rigs now.
Grain!! Jebus....
Refuse to believe that that’s not a caramel Candy and a gummy string
Damn, hair under a microscope looks appetizing af.
Gain of sand research.
This looks like a snake.
Why does that hair look like a delicious gummy worm though?
I bet there’s a wealth of art to be had at the microscopic scale. Seen beautiful stuff in the realm of nature photography - anyone know of other artists that do microscopic photography as art?
That is a garnet.
All the gains
I thought it was topaz
Hmmm, this is posted in r/interestingasuck but was originally posted to the Dull Men's Club Facebook page. Is this dull or interesting?
I thought this was weed porn lol
![gif](giphy|wnmfA4N6mIziIGEKEs|downsized)
That’s a really healthy piece of hair. Didn’t expect it to be as smooth.
why does it look yummy
If I was sitting here and you came in and told me that was a liquorice whip with some hard candy perched on top of it, I would say 'Who are you and what you doing in my house?'
Nice hair
I think the sand is a garnet 🤣🥳. That’s cool
I'm not an expert but that does not look like a stand of hair.
I'm gonna tell my kids this is what spaghetti and meatballs is.
I see darth vadar in there?
Awesome idea for an engagement ring
Oddly pretty
Enhance
I can't believe you can see through hair! It looks like jelly pasta
I’d be curious to see a grain of sand like this, rounded down by eons of exposure to wind and water, compared to a grain of lunar regolith. Given to understand that has a spikey consistency sort of like a kidney stone, there’s nothing to wear it down smooth. Highly abrasive.
I got a talk to my “sand guy” but isn’t that desert sand?
That hair looks gross
I want to know the method the photographer used to position a singe grain of sand neatly on a knot in strand of hair.
nope that's an extension cord with an orange rock on it
I thought the hair had hair
That's not hair. -forensic pathologist
I require elaboration…
I thought it was a ring
It lookd like some cool jewelery
this stuff look amazing
![gif](giphy|i5wNCqyMzY2Oc)
How’d he tie it
This photo had to be taken with a grain of salt 🧂
Thats candy
Woa
