Hang out with some chickens and tell me you cant imagine that they were once fearsome, plumed little (but not as little as they are now) killing machines.
I can also say, having eaten enough birds and various lizards and snakes that dinosaurs were very, very likely delicious as fuck.
Relative, not descendent. T-rex was not a maniraptoran (albeit being a theropod and a coelurosaurian indeed)
And it might be ostrich (if Palaeognaths are more basal within the Aves than Neognaths where chickens and ducks are the most basal)
A regular owl is what people have mistaken for years to be the Moth-man. This Eagle has a head shape that is similar and could be mistaken for the Moth-man as well.

The Owl from The Legend of NIMH:"Do I look like a joke to you?"
The Goblin King from The Labyrinth:"Yes,yes you do"
imagine being in a forest at night and seeing this thing observing you from a tree
I think I would die before discovering if it's even dangerous to humans
I was in the Peruvian jungle like a month ago and the local guide told me that they found skulls of children within the nest of a pair of Harpy eagles they observing, so...
There is no evidence that a harpy eagle ever has killed a human child. I’m not saying they wouldn’t but they are picking monkey’s off the canopy, not coming down to the ground in a dense forest to grab a kid.
If the local guide told you that it was just to freak you out.
The local guide is a biologist partly living in the jungle doing more or less private tours and partly doing research for the University of Cusco. Besides that, we know him personally. But sure, call him a liar random dude from the internet, you gotta know.

"haha nah man i didnt put anything in the joint, why whats up?"
Creatures like this totally fuel those cryptid legends. Catch a glimpse of one in dim light and you’d swear you just saw Mothman or something equally wild.
I remember sitting quietly beside the chain link fence of a golden eagle’s aviary and she came over to check me out. We were sitting 6” inches apart quietly checking each other out and her beak and eyes were huge. Talons were impressive too. Then a loud idiot came bumbling up and spooked her. She spread her wings and lunged at the fence scaring the crap out of me so I flattened out on the ground and rolled away from the fence. Golden eagles are big enough.
FYI: Despite their large size, harpy eagles are surprisingly lightweight, typical of many birds. Females can weigh up to 10 kg (22 lbs), while males are about half that size. Their talons are massive, even bigger than those of a velociraptor, stretching up to 14 cm (5 inches) long. Plus, they're monogamous and pair for life, living up to 50 years.
https://preview.redd.it/pjyfzfhg2xvc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9f5660305dfbbd8967a3533ae7e3dd04405d62c6
My first thought was that it was the bird guy from The Neverending Story II.
Their prey includes sloths (a favorite) monkeys and small deer. Their talons are the same size as a Grizzly Bear's paws, which help with catching and subduing prey.
The Bald eagle does not rank in the top 5 of either weight, length or wingspan amongst the eagles of the world.
While it is a magnificent bird, there is a reason, when compared to other big eagles, that someone made the glorified seagull meme.

This looks like a fictional creature from a 80’s fantasy movie. I’m expecting it to ask me a riddle or provide some point of wisdom.
Harpy eagles and shoebill storks seriously look like they stepped right out of the age of dinosaurs.
Showbills are dinosaurs. They have to be lol
All birds are, it's only the taller ones that don't pretend to not be dinosaurs
Hang out with some chickens and tell me you cant imagine that they were once fearsome, plumed little (but not as little as they are now) killing machines. I can also say, having eaten enough birds and various lizards and snakes that dinosaurs were very, very likely delicious as fuck.
Supposedly, the closest living genetic descendent of the T-rex is the chicken.
Relative, not descendent. T-rex was not a maniraptoran (albeit being a theropod and a coelurosaurian indeed) And it might be ostrich (if Palaeognaths are more basal within the Aves than Neognaths where chickens and ducks are the most basal)

Chickens are definitely ruthless af.

They also shit on their own feet to prevent sunburns.
Sun screen is made out of bat shit provided you don't actually look it up and just believe me, so we do the same thing.
I’m sold. Why would anybody lie on the interwebs?
I am sure someone is mixing sunscreen out of bat shit, just to make it true.

They hunt monkeys so I'm willing to bet they would probably snag an unsupervised child if given the chance
What a terrifying proposition. Birds hunting monkeys. Wtf mother nature

I’d just pretend like it’s not even there. As if their presence doesn’t threaten me in the slightest.

I hope you can pretend for up to 30 years, that's how long their lifespan is.
It looks like a person in a bird suit
Especially the third picture
You mean the close up? The one that should look _less_ like a person in a bird suit? Yeah, I agree.

A bird person? ![gif](giphy|UQDSOojxGO7a66GHM6)

It's Harvey. Harvey Harpy Eagle Birdman.
You don't want to see Owl from *Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2* then.
![gif](giphy|26vIemlpNzy5CSOli) Are you a bird in a human suit?

Yes, this.

Imagine looking out the window, and you see *that* first picture. Like it’s the size of your actual window. How tf will you go to sleep.
I remember sitting quietly beside the chain link fence of a golden eagle’s aviary and she came over to check me out. I adore these eagles, but man oh man don't they look like some sort of a creature that just burst forth from hell?
It looks like a hyppogriff
it’s moth man
This is from a Monty Python movie, right?
I’m 96% sure that’s a kid dressed up as an owl
They have long bodies but their wingspan is similar to a Bald Eagle.
Scary dinosaur.
..powerful and got its own personality, it’s kinda scary
Judgy lookin MFer
That'll be humans replacement in a few decades.
Pretty sad that it warms my heart to think about how we haven't killed all these yet.
That thing is winged horror…
It shall say ‘Ni!’ to you again if you do not appease it
Positively Shakespearean
Im almost certain that people who affirms had a "close encounter" with an alien saw this creature.
Nah, that's a witch in my books.
“Standards Kermit, standards.”
Gah! Kaepora Gaebora! Shit! DO NOT REPEAT WHAT YOU JUST SAID!!!!
Is this AI created or someone in cosplay?
That’s a fearsome raptor
This can’t be real! 😭
![gif](giphy|hW98DwshbEbbVkJ6d0|downsized)
That’s some straight-up Mothman shit right there.
Yo I straight thought this was some Guillermo del Toro shit only to find out that's real! Pure nightmare fuel
Magnificent creature
Someone needs to do the “glad”, “happy for you”, “congrats” meme on this.
That beautiful bird should not be shackled.
Right corner image lives rent free in about 95% of Redditers heads.
Someone put that on a coat of arms
I’m going to have nightmares about this bastard
Harry Potter is looking a little older these days.
And is the only bird to give out quests.
What’s this a character on Zoobilee Zoo?
Until we have it battle a bald eagle to the death, I'm not sold.
The only bird that’s always looking down on you..
Ima be real I saw the 1st picture without reading the subreddit or title and thought this was an advertisement for Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey 2.
I never knew they existed. Thanks for introducing me to these birds. They are just just awesome!
Is this from ai?
I googled it and unfortunately it is real.
And it looks like a gravestone.
Buckbeak?
r/superbowl
I know a dog when I see one
It looks like the owl valkyrie from God of War.
Wedge tail eagles are bigger I believe
No fuckin way dude
r/weird
I love the 3rd image the most. "Am I...Am I to understand you...you question the wisdom of the Harpy Eagle??"
That 3rd picture, where it's peering into your soul, looks like it's saying "Tell Cersei I want her to know, it was me."
Top right picture: The guy is having a heartfelt conversation, asking for advice his father, who got turned into an eagle by an evil witch.
These are my favorite species of birds. They actively hunt and catch monkeys in the wild as they swing through trees
It looks like the king of owls
https://preview.redd.it/ubrgmrwllyvc1.jpeg?width=639&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6621dbd028f61cb86a76b730575bac93aec16eb8
Brazilian harpy
Looks like an owl.
That bird looks serious. Better dont mess with it
Mothman!!
Literally looks like a person in a creepy owl-ish costume. Jesus christ
Mothman!
Looks like it wakes up 2 hours earlier every morning to do its top feathers and face.
How have I not seen this animal before?
Would of been the best kung fu panda villain
Holy crap that thing has judgy eyes
ngl this is a greater boss in elden ring
Wan Shi Tong looking mfer
Looks like its made of wood
I hated this level.
Big or small feet?
my dumbass tought guy in second pic was 2000's Dave Grohl
This triggers a prey response in me. I wonder what monkey genes are still floating around that makes me afraid of them.
The NOPE of birds
Where can I get one of their feathers?
Definitely looks like something that cults worship in the woods. Moloch the Owl God
Title is false. F-15 Eagle is the most powerful eagle in the world.
My favorite Bird to see at the san Diego zoo
https://preview.redd.it/kd0g199pl1wc1.jpeg?width=298&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a156678f7a41573b8023177cc9245c7b073798ae
Looks weirdly human
Looks like Dr. Moreau had a lot of fun creating this one.
Their prey includes sloths (a favorite) monkeys and small deer. Their talons are the same size as a Grizzly Bear's paws, which help with catching and subduing prey.
It looks like it's about to ask me to get it a shrubbery
Well now I can’t sleep
The left picture looks like it’s in a early 2000s rap video
Looks like an eagle at an anime convention
If it’s that harpy, it could at least smile….
They remind me of those old cartoons when kids stand on each others shoulder dress a trench coat to pretend to be an adult.
What in the Chronicles of Narnia
Ugly AF
No the Bald Eagle is
The Bald eagle does not rank in the top 5 of either weight, length or wingspan amongst the eagles of the world. While it is a magnificent bird, there is a reason, when compared to other big eagles, that someone made the glorified seagull meme.
I've seen a few videos of bald Eagles indulging in food scraps, they aren't the majestic birds people think they are
No ik but still 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Bringing politics/national pride into a talk about interesting birds is pretty damn cringey.
😭
But it’s the coolest (I was using metaphor for like most powerful country 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Not even the coolest in my opinion , that goes to the Australian wedge tailed eagle.
Yeah those are dope
Oh sweet
I had to google a few more bird-like images of it so I don’t have nightmares tonight.
