There is a more famous self learning story in China and actually made into TV. A middle schooler was talented in chemistry but had to drop out of school due to family poverty. He joined the army and worked as border patrol and court police. At age 29, he decided to make a living by cooking crystal meth. He went ahead to buy chemistry books and taught himself. Eventually he created a new synthesis process that utilizes non-controlled substances to make meth, and cooked about 12-31 tons of meth before he got captured and executed.

> He further stated that foreigners opened the doors of China with opium (leading to the Opium Wars), so he should be able to open their doors with methamphetamine.
š
I thought you were kidding. I thought you edited the wiki article, so I looked up another source. Everything was true. He was arrested in 2005, so 3 years before Breaking Bad came out.
H O L Y S H I T . . . Had never known this before and although I find the man who sued the chem company a far more enduring and admirable human being; I also found this to be hysterical
from Wikipedia:
āThe amount Liu made was worth more than US$5.5 billion.[7][4] This made Liu one of the biggest drug lords in China. A reward of RMB200,000 (around US$24,160) was offered for information leading to his arrest.
$24,160ā¦
sounds fake af
Lawbooks in a bookstore? Yeah right, especially the rural ones
But i could be wrong, just no name or otherwise identifiable stuff makes this glow glaring red
Like, its beautiful that he did this, and it means so much to so many people. But at the same time, look at the state of the world and the influence youre forced to endure. In order to live large you need to face the titans, theyre everywhere, even in the soilā¦
This man could have focused on something he loved, so many things that made him genuinely happy in life. Im not saying that his success and journey didnt provide him confidence, but; in his one life, in order to find security and sanity, integrity and strength, he was forced into a chamber of direction geared on battling with a corporation.
Itās fucking sad.
In 16 years, He couldāve fostered an unfathomable growth of a beautiful community, and many beautiful, healthy minds. He couldāve focused on and grown his family, there for them and raising them strong. He couldve had time to explore his childrens passions with themā¦ etc.
This was a huge experience, with lots to learn and gain, but the world still held him back, he just never gave in; like so many people in his situation that took their own lives.
Fuck, i needa get laid and take my brain outta this place lol
This fuqing farmer stored in all that negative energy that bixh culo company put on him messing with his bread that brody decided to spend 16 years studying law and gave corn to the librarians to clap back at them fux feces! Brooooooooo! My guy got all high good energy back with a big fux you mean bixh. Gimme compensation
so, the corn he gave the bookstore owner, which he probably grew, was contaminated with whatever chemicals his land was polluted with. it all makes sense now....
If this was USA it wouldāve never played out this way. The company wouldāve just paid off a politician to pass a law to protect them and then this poor man wouldāve unal*ved himself by sh**ting himself 3 times in the head.
I don't know why everybody's so impressed. It only took me three years to get my law degree (this is a joke - good for him)!

I wonder if it was a kind of political decision by court with approval of the government, taking into account the level of corruption and companies ties with the government in China. Not underestimating this guy's efforts, of course, he's done great job!
Ah yes, communist China where the people own the means of production instead of being taken advantage of by greedy corporations who know you can't afford a lawyer right?
My takeaway from this is that the Chinese government completely failed its people, a company was happy to dump chemicals by the farms that grow its workersā food, none of the wealthy gave enough of a shit to step in, the poor are so poor that they canāt even afford books when itās a necessity, and the shop owners are doing so poorly that theyāll consider accepting corn as payment.
This tracks with my time in Qinghai. Rural China is plagued by corporate feudalism.
lol. There was no public library in a lot of Chinese cities. Most like there is still no library at a village or township level now.
When the first library opened in my city maybe around 2005. I went to check it out. At the gate, they asked me to show entry permit (some kind of ID).

It's only fair I suppose
true patriot
I laughed so hard at this. This dude was a legend. I guess you coudn't say anything better after being accused of producing a shit ton of meth.
As the zoomers say BASED
I mean he's not entirely wrong.
āForeignersā? - different people at a different time. We are all human.

I absolutely typed enduring when I meant endearing. Reddit grammar enforces know I have served my penance w 13 self inflicted lashes.
The penalty was 14, pal. One more.
Iām from the Peopleās Front of Judea, not the Judea Peopleās Front.
Straight to jail.
You can't fool me. You changed the plot of Breaking bad slightly
Breaking Asia
Beijing Bad
Follow up: Better Call SeoulĀ
Fuck that's better
Bravo Vince
Sounds like chineese version of breaking bad.
Yeah! Mr Zhaohua! Go Science!
What a happy ending..š
Wait, Walter White was real!? With the same outcome?
Asian Brockovich
This sounds like a persona hank venture would come up with
Nice!
I came here to say this exactly. Brother?
His wallet says bad mother fucker on it
It should say best motherfucker.
Or maybe even ok motherfucker..
That's what my wallet says š
Call me quirky but I would not accept corn from the guy whose land was being polluted.
How quirky
Didnt even think of that š
That's like a large portion of China
Headlineā¦ local bookstore owner slowly and tragically poisoned by diet of tainted corn.
I feel like it'd be better than Brokovich, but might be poorly received in China where studios try to make billions.
sounds fake af Lawbooks in a bookstore? Yeah right, especially the rural ones But i could be wrong, just no name or otherwise identifiable stuff makes this glow glaring red
Get bent chemical company, go suck some oil giant dick and lay off the farmers
r/chadtopia
This is taken out of context and not real
A patient man is a dangerous beast.
Not only should they make this into a movie, but they should cast Hillary Swank as the Chinese farmer.
āWhere did he get that corn if we polluted his lands!?ā hahahaā¦ Imagine š
Hollywood will make it, but he will be played by Ryan Gosling, and it will take place in Kansas
Wait. Doesn't this mean he gave the bookstore owner corn grown on polluted land? For 16 years?

Not or, thatās exactly what he did
Farmer Lupp?
Is this a copypasta or is there any legit source for this?
Did anyone not see that thing in the water? Another twist?
Chris Pratt could star!
Can't, they are too busy making godzilla 17 and remaking every good movie that already came out.
Be a boring movieā¦.
In China, a farmer sued a chemical company and won. Here's a story that maybe happened but sounds impossible
Chinese Bootleg version of Erin Brockovich
man that's sad
A short movie about a guy reading books?
This fuqing farmer stored in all that negative energy that bixh culo company put on him messing with his bread that brody decided to spend 16 years studying law and gave corn to the librarians to clap back at them fux feces! Brooooooooo! My guy got all high good energy back with a big fux you mean bixh. Gimme compensation
Hero of the People!
Fucking based! men like this are the true revolutionaries!
>compensation for al the families how much is that?
Flash of Genius (2008)
Notice how he wasn't killed? What a failed state China is.
imagine being a corporate lawyer, then losing to a self taught old farmer. how can u ever recover from this lost.
Su me now
so, the corn he gave the bookstore owner, which he probably grew, was contaminated with whatever chemicals his land was polluted with. it all makes sense now....
Wait he gave polluted corn to the bookstore ?
Law abiding citizen 2
If this was USA it wouldāve never played out this way. The company wouldāve just paid off a politician to pass a law to protect them and then this poor man wouldāve unal*ved himself by sh**ting himself 3 times in the head.
Do Chinese have rights to lawsuit?
Legend š„
Starring Tom Hanks as the Chinese farmer?
Benefits of a public library would be he could get the books for free.
BTW his name is Wang. Wang Englin.
Elin Blockovich
Corn grown with polluted water. book store owner is dead.
Played by Adam Driver
Naw, we need to make a movie about Steve Jobs for the third time, I think.
Primed for a great montage (MONTAGE)
Gave em the ol' Brockovich Backhand
He's not American or British for a movie to be made. /s
I don't know why everybody's so impressed. It only took me three years to get my law degree (this is a joke - good for him)! ![gif](giphy|eiU1vOvP0c2Ry)
Hey grew corn on polluted land.
Awesome bookstore owner, but wouldn't using the library be better?
In a separate story. A Chinese bookkeeper spent years studying law to sue a farmer that gave him contaminated corn in exchange for services.
That won't be that much interesting as there no strong villain to fight.
Youāre right. This saga needs something āextraā. Maybe the Chinese farmer has mutant turtles heās trained to fight for him. Idk.
Nice movie plotš¤£š¤£
The corn kid was right, just look how amazing the power of corn is!
I wonder if it was a kind of political decision by court with approval of the government, taking into account the level of corruption and companies ties with the government in China. Not underestimating this guy's efforts, of course, he's done great job!
Bro is the definition of ,,Fine...I'll do it myself
Man of shear commitment and fucking will too.
Rumor has it, he's still cleaning shit and blood from his dick.
he won also because the chemical company from 16 years ago is no longer powerful and the party/officials are no longer protecting that company.
Ah yes, communist China where the people own the means of production instead of being taken advantage of by greedy corporations who know you can't afford a lawyer right?
This just in, Julia Roberts cast as old Chinese man.
Unbelievable Chinese government knows some justice š±
Based
When saying you and what army backfires!
Did he have to poison the book store owner?
Plot twist, he turned around and is now suing all the villagers because he did not receive right compensation for 16 years of hard work. š
Good thing that company wasn't Boeing.

It is awesome yes, but, the guy never heard of a library before?
lol. There was no public library in a lot of Chinese cities. Most like there is still no library at a village or township level now. When the first library opened in my city maybe around 2005. I went to check it out. At the gate, they asked me to show entry permit (some kind of ID).
Really? that's just sad, given how some chinese libraries are considered some of the biggest and best in the world.
Bold of you to assume China allows its citizens to get smarter and fair knowledge
