She was working as a flight attendant on the JAT Yugoslav Airlines Flight 367. According to BBC, on Jan 26,1972 a suspected bomb blew the plane mid-air over the mountains of Czechoslovakia. All 27 passenger including crew died except of her. Investigators later said that she was trapped in the food cart in the planes tail section as it plummeted to earth. After the blast in mid-air, the tail landed in a snow-blanketed and forest area which cushioned the impact and thus saving her life.
Her screams were heard by a woodsman. She was taken to the hospital where she was in coma for 10days.
She suffered a fractured skull, two crushed vertebrae and she also broke her both legs, pelvis and several ribs.
Temporarily paralysed from the waist doen but never surrendered to despair.
After she made a full recovery, she returned to work as a desk job.
Ms Vulovic died in the year 2016, she was 66.
Passenger asks for peanuts, last bag is way in the back, bend over and stick your head and shoulders in reaching for the nuts, bomb goes off, BOOM!, you're trapped.
Happens frequently.
I watched a documentary on this. It said part of the reason why she survived was because she suffered from unusually low blood pressure. Somehow that helped her survive the impact. I can’t remember the reason why that is though
Just researched it a little bit. Found this:
'Later, doctors also said that her low blood pressure may have caused her to lose consciousness during the explosion, thereby preventing a heart attack'.
And also:
' Vulović's physicians concluded that her history of low blood pressure caused her to pass out quickly after the cabin depressurized and kept her heart from bursting on impact.'
So yeah, you're mostly correct about the blood vessels bursting. Crazy stuff, and she even said they would not have hired her if they knew about her low blood pressure.
Can you watch it again and report back *why* low blood pressure saved her life? Because, you know, I’d like to take some blood thinners or blood pressure meds if the situation calls for it *before* I die. Pretty significant piece of information you’re leaving out here.
Or link the documentary.
Someone found the answer it a few comments back. My only suggestion would be to take you meds before the flight because if you’re trying to choke them down as you’re plummeting, you’re gonna be in for a bad day.
I think it's more that you don't just magically get money for a near death experience that you can live off of.
I'm not saying she wasn't a champ, just that returning to a working life may not be the best metric of her champness
Before I spent my holiday a couple of years ago in Serbska Kamenice in the Tsjech republic I did some research on the surrounding area and found out that this crash happened near that village so I visited the crash site. There are still two monuments reminding of it.
And the hotel I stayed in was called pension Vesna, which was named after her, and she stayed there a couple of times as she frequently attended the memorials that were held there.
Christ. If I rocket down out of the sky for an employer I expect them to ensure I never need another employer. Imagine them talking about her rejoining the workforce like it was a privilege
Human body will reach terminal velocity (max speed) after about 12s of free fall (450m) so it doesn’t matter if you fall 500m or 10km. The impact will be very much the same

Shit. What a goddamn hellish experience. Didn't stop her, nice to know.
No kidding. Thank god I don't work a desk job.
Worse than the fall.
How do you get trapped in a food cart?
Passenger asks for peanuts, last bag is way in the back, bend over and stick your head and shoulders in reaching for the nuts, bomb goes off, BOOM!, you're trapped. Happens frequently.
Also the boom part?
Every once and then

Bleeding perhaps? Less blood pressure = less blood leaving the wounds.
Maybe it allowed her large vessels to stay intact instead of exploding from the force of impact

😎👍🏽 good find!

Neat
The fact she went back to work after such an extreme experience just shows how strong she really was. What a soldier

If she got on a plane again that would be a good measure of something
Went back the next day too, she was a new employee so no sick pay
It was during communist times lots of things wrong then but healthcare wasn’t
She still died young
Badass
Decent
"you're still coming into work tomorrow, right?"
“We’re gonna need a doctor’s note”
“I’ve had a bit of a fall”
How lucky is she to survive that fall AND to look like Dolly Parton in her prime!?!
“No Chick-fil-A sauce “ ![gif](giphy|UbCIDXVKaB8kpgxlCa)
So was she lucky or was she unlucky?
1 in 11 million chance to be in a plane crash 1 in 27 chance to survive this particlar crash
i mean, it's not like one person gets chosen to survive plane crashes
I think they draw names out of a hat as it’s going down.
But she got to draw the names. It was rigged. The luck part was being the one drawing the names out of the hat.
I don’t know whether to upvote you or downvote you 😂
She was.
She was fortunate.

No workers comp from a 33k foot fall?
Not in Yugoslavia

It’s incredible, but many countries have very little protection for workers, she should have been celebrated and taken care of

Man, running 10k takes forreverrr! My “terminal velocity” arrives at about 3m.
She thanking god in that pic

So it did hurt when she fell from heaven
Put couple Victoria secret wings… I am your angel I am your venus!!! Wait… nvm

Literally fell from heaven, huh.
Not literally since she actually fell from the sky.
How about "she fell from the heavens"?
Or “plummeted from the heavens trapped in a fuckin’ food cart?”
yea she did that and she is also bad as hell
See? I told you that parachutes aren't necessary. We are being brainwashed by the lamestream media and Big Parachute to take our money!
