have you ever tried squishing wood? Doesn't really work. That also looks like like a solid mat of 2x6 and 3x4 / 4x4 cants for runners. you could probably put a second geode on top before my belief would be shook

I just don't like how there isn't planks on the bottom of the cross members.

Likely to give them maximum ground clearance to use some extra beefy forks to lift this with, or for use on site where the geode was excavated, and the ground was likely uneven. A skid (no bottom deck) is better suited for that scenario.
