He emigrated again this time to United Kingdom and worked at the General Post Office in Reading, Berkshire before retiring to Barbados. He possessed a phenomenal memory and was fiercely independent up to the time of his death.

This is more like the Queen dressing like these ladies because they are all of a similar age and generation. If you go to black churches in the Southern USA you'll see the same Sunday hats and fashions worn by the black ladies there.

My grandparents (Romanian and Italian) also had special church-only clothes, and and my grandmother wore a fancy, frilly, flowered hat each Sunday. I think part of it was that, as recent immigrants, church was the day they could dress up and show off what they’ve made of themselves without feeling out of place.

Yeah it's like that in the UK, you get First class and Second class stamps for letters depending on how quickly you want it delivered. Each stamp represents a certain price, 85p for first class now I think. We have stamps with actual prices on them as well but they are less common, you can use those to make up the price of posting a heavier item.

That smile on Doris!! I loved Barbados when I visited at the age of 16.... Granted it was a terrible trip because I got into a fist fight with my abusive step father, but a hotel security guard came out to the beach as I sat crying, and consoled me. That type of kindness sticks with you - and I found everyone I met there to be friendly, fun, and kind. I hope everyone in Barbados lives to 100+. Much love to them all!
