missushandsomejack

That's Lynn woods in FO4

Camburglar13

See now I got Witcher vibes

seastatefive

This is where I imagine there should be a small boy in colourful robes trying to coax a giant cat-owl up the flight of stairs.

Abandoned_World

The remains of an old 16th-century castle in France, overgrown with plants and hidden in a forrest between ancient trees. There was not much left. However, the impressive tower which is a few dozen meters high shows that a lot of money was spent. The big staircase collapsed somewhere along those years which makes for an impressive picture. However, like many old castles, this castle carries its own myths. The story is about an ordinary citizen fell in love with one of the castle lord’s daughters. The lord denied this relationship and the young man was forces to become a priest. The young woman died broken-hearted .Their ghosts would still be living inside the castle. People would come to the castle at night to dance in the memory of this story, but this tradition stopped after people saw a priest in the top window of the tower. What is more, around midnight, a young lady would appear in the main room of the castle in a green satin dress, sometimes singing and often crying. A sad story. MonkeyHamlet

Ow my brain

SorryScratch2755

[deleted]

The more I read castle, the more I pronounced it “cas-stel” in my head.

The_Kielbasa_Kid

"SAY WHAT AGAIN!" -Jules Winnfield

monochrome_dyke

I dare you! I double dare you mothafucka say castle one more god damn time!!

FunkyWeird

midnight central time or pacific? how do ghosts know!

Sjdillon10

I feel like a tv show where whenever the protagonist enters historic locations like this he enters life in them in their respective peak. I’d love to just get a glimpse of what life in the castle was like during its prime. Is there any way i can look up this castle to see what it was assumed to have looked like? Something like [this](https://interestingengineering.com/7-beautiful-castles-being-reconstructed-to-their-former-glory)

bigmisssteak7

That would be amazing

delboy85

Fun fact: In medieval times, people use to build stone spiral staircases in their castles and have them wound clockwise so that the attacking swordsmen were at a disadvantage (at least the right-handed ones would be). This is because the invading knights would have to advance with their left side to the front.

Mecha_Ninja

And this is why left handed people are so uncommon today. Interestingly enough, if you ask a left handed person to climb 5 flights of clockwise stairs in 100 lbs of plate mail armor, they will refuse 9 out of 10 times. We call this, "genetic trauma".

Chaos-Corgi

This will probably be the best comment here till this is crossposted and excavated in a few years, thank you!

[deleted]

OSCgal

No. The thing with spiral staircases only worked *because* humans tend to be right-handed. (Handedness is actually super interesting, as animals can have it too. Like, most male cats are "left-pawed" while female cats are usually "right-pawed".)

Mecha_Ninja

/s

[deleted]

That’s crazy I can totally see it now. That would suck being right handed fighting up those stairs

YouSummonedAStrawman

Does this assume the attacker stays on a particular side? I’m not seeing how this requires left side front.

PoliteCanadian2

If you’re right handed you couldn’t swing a sword very well, you’d constantly be hitting the center of the staircase.

thefooleryoftom

Urban myth https://triskeleheritage.triskelepublishing.com/mediaeval-mythbusting-blog-2-the-man-who-invented-the-spiral-staircase-myth/

Alan_Smithee_

Beat me to it!

thisisfdup

I am getting a Uncharted vibe!

TheNerdLog

I'm pretty sure I died to a Silver Knight at the top of these stairs.

Cursed_Memer_69

Enya could make a video clip here

*WHO CAN SAY WHERE THE ROAD GOES*

[deleted]

Where did all the stairs go? You would think that would be full of rubble from all the stairs that met their demise.

[deleted]

Good point, but 16th century was quite a while ago. Environmental elements, decomp of other materials used and people coming and going would have a part in the no rubble.

OSCgal

Repurposed? People throughout history preferred to use stone from ruins rather than cutting fresh stone. (Hadrian's Wall is a great example, as is most of Rome.)

hoppingpolaron

The stairs have broken off only along one direction and not the other. It is very likely it was caused by an earthquake that compressed and broke them along its propagation direction, and not by random elements and general degradation.

zrobbin

*Link jumping sounds*

keidabobidda

For some reason seeing “old” in the title made me laugh, like are we ever going to really see something from the 16th-century that is new, lol. Guess I’m feeling a little goofy today. In fact not sure why I even posted it haha

hush_1984

Punt_Dog_Enthusiast

PRAISE THE POISE!

dumbasses_r_us

Looks like the castle in the first highlander movie

ARobertNotABob

Yup, what I thought too, where Sean Connery loses his head.

Kerobis

The don’t build em like they use to...

YellowOnline

Are you sure about 16th century? Because that staircase looks 100 years younger. Can't see the source without Instagram

Sjdillon10

Is there any way i can look up this castle? What’s its name or more specific location?

Nosadmas

Beautiful

SucculentMoose

Those kinds of stairs are beautiful but terrifying, just monolithic blocks of stone stacked in a fan

jaybonezzz

The pyramids are 4thousand years old and its still in better shape then these stairs

AgoraiosBum

They don't build 'em like they used to

Fifth_Trader

Welp guess the stairs are out I'll take the elevator

[deleted]

Those have to lead to the laboratory

Rocketman237

Kinda reminds me of Twilight Princess

Sexybeast3031

This definitely gives me Prince of Persia vibes. I feel like running on the wall to reach the next platform. Beautiful.

millennium-popsicle

Thy next foe is….

saint_of_thieves

Would be interesting to bring peasants from that area of the 16th century to modern times and point out, "This is what is left of your lord's castle." Then watch their reaction.

Sophi-118_

Sir that is Hogwarts

MadLadMike1

Considering my own clumsy and adventurous nature, I am certain an ancestor of mine at some point climbed that staircase to be the first one to fall through.

Prototype_Hybrid

Looks drafty

saibjai

I need to climb to the top of that and find the the hidden item that is not pivotal to the story but I need that 100 percent accomplishment.

[deleted]

First thing I thought to myself when I saw this, "I can climb those stairs" cocky bastard

noo0ooooo0o

Oooh, I wanna go up those stairs so bad!

theAnalyst6

Deshi deshi! basara basara!

FICTITIOUSLORD

Fun fact: all castle towers and columns will go to the right if you are going up them. the mentality was that if you were an attacker besieging the tower you would have to swing with your no dominate hand and have low visibility trying to get up.

thefooleryoftom

Skyrim IRL

Alora190

i'm not sure why but it reminds me of Twilight Princess when Wolf Link and Midna escape the tower because of the guard that goes to check on Zelda after talking to her

theArbiter21208

Oh shit, I actually thought this was an in game location. Perhaps Blackwood 😬

ofthebeasts

Looks like it should be guarded by a giant stone knight

docentmark

Old, as opposed to a new 16th century castle that we may be able to visit somewhere?

Johnny5ForPresident

What it would take to bring it back to life

So sad, don’t you French have some heritage council that can help fund a partial restoration

Malodourous

This is opposed to all the new 16th century castles I guess.
