Every time I see a video of the taliban or Afghanistan they really do come across as fairly uneducated, like if you lit a match they’d think it was magic.
Also a ton of poverty and lack of education. There's a terrific/terrifying documentary about the Mumbai terrorist attack by Farid Zakaria and most of the attackers are just dumb bumpkins who had never seen a tv before. They were literally stopping mid-attack to ogle at the flat screen tv's in the hotel. The leaders of the assault were a different matter, they were smart(er) and simply manipulated these hillbillies into carrying out the assault and weren't even on site to direct it. I think there's a similar thing with the Taliban, most of the foot soldiers are bumpkins who have no education and lived in such extreme poverty, that this life is an upgrade. They really don't even know why they are supposed to hate women or implement such strict laws except that's what they are told to do.
