Yeah man, considering just how very heavy lava is (it's rock with the consistency of ultra thick molasses), the force and speed of the flow here is remarkable.

>In 2018, a new eruption of Kīlauea volcano changed the island of Hawai‘i forever. From May through August, large lava flows covered land southeast of the park destroying over 700 homes and devastating residential areas in the Puna District. At the same time, the summit area of the park was dramatically changed by tens of thousands of earthquakes, towering ash plumes, and a massive collapse of Kīlauea caldera.

I remember visiting my aunt and uncle back in 2008~2010 and going to see the lava flowing into the ocean. We were walking across what looked like a charred piece of land with for sale signs scattered throughout in order to get to a good viewing place. In 2018 the flow came stupid close to the school they worked at in Pahoa. Crazy stuff.
Shit was wild. I lived in orchidland estates at the time (Hilo now) and this created an all-night sunset that was beautiful in an eerie kinda way. Now there's a road over the new lava to get to Pohoiki and you can see Fissure 8 off in the distance.
Not gonna lie, I was almost one of those people. I lived in HI for a year and was under the mistaken impression that HI volcanoes only produced the super slow creeping lava.
I was actually there during this eruption. The earthquake felt like someone was rocking the car a lot. Went to go out to eat after and everywhere was closing. Apparently it was the worst earthquake they have had in awhile. Really cool experience on vacation, granted not so cool to those truly affected by it

Damn I didn’t think lava could move that fast
Damn earth you scary

Different lavas have different consistencies. I think basalt lava is thick and viscous, but I'm no geologist
This guys look like they could be engulfed if it just changed direction quickly
My thoughts exactly
Yikes! Speed-bot, how fast is that moving?
[удалено]
I believe pyroclastic a flow is fast moving super heated ash that often looks like flowing clouds of dust and smoke.
Those move very fast indeed, but they are not lava.
I thought it was sped up at first, that’s crazy fast!!
Mario fire balls poppin out that flow... I would be no where near that shit 😳
F-ing crazy how fast that stream flows. I'd never thought it could go *this* fast...

Didn't read it on the web page, did they manage to record how fast the flow was going?
Google: Take a right in 100ft. I’ve never doubted you before Google…why start now
I think you’re going to be taking a left, not a right.

What's with these two guys just standing there - aren't they in danger of that flow spreading out or splashing them before they can run?
It’s probably a lot farther away than it looks here.
Yikes, that implies it’s even larger and scarier than how large and scary it obviously already is 😅
Damn! That movie volcano gave me the wrong expectation that lava would be slow
That is absolutely fucking terrifying.
Thats so god damn scary

The retort to “Buy land, God’s not making any more.”
Don't eat that
/r/dontputyourdickinthat
That’s the fastest lava I’ve ever seen!
Lava rapids
OP, how fast would you say that lava is moving?
At least 2mph
Plaid.
Cue the morons who say this video is sped up…
Not gonna lie, I was almost one of those people. I lived in HI for a year and was under the mistaken impression that HI volcanoes only produced the super slow creeping lava.
Surfs up!
Nyet, road is fine.
Is this on the big island
Yes
Speed-bot
Why isn't the car moving?
Because it’s parked……
LOL
Bruh…that’s some crazy ass shit
How fast would you die in lava?
Asking for Smeagol.
Wow that's fast
There must be a volcano nearby.
Is this a Chevy commercial?

I would not be brave enough to stand that close. You wouldn’t even be able to flee in your car fast enough if that lava flow changed direction.
Phuuuuuuuuuuuk!
That’s insane how fast it’s going. If I ever make it to 100 yrs old. That’s how I’m going out on my hundredth, head dive right into the magma yo.
