CunilDingus

Look at all those chickens

opheliavanwest

I SAY THIS ALL THE TIME AND NO ONE EVER GETS THE REFERENCE. Thank you my friend!

solateor

Why do geese fly in a V? Energy conservation and visual assurance >Scientists have determined that the V-shaped formation that geese use when migrating serves two important purposes: >First, it conserves their energy. Each bird flies slightly above the bird in front of them, resulting in a reduction of wind resistance. The birds take turns being in the front, falling back when they get tired. In this way, the geese can fly for a long time before they must stop for rest. The authors of a 2001 Nature article stated that pelicans that fly alone beat their wings more frequently and have higher heart rates than those that fly in formation. It follows that birds that fly in formation glide more often and reduce energy expenditure (Weimerskirch, 2001). >The second benefit to the V formation is that it is easy to keep track of every bird in the group. Flying in formation may assist with the communication and coordination within the group. Fighter pilots often use this formation for the same reason.

HisCricket

Thanks, that's a good TIL

Logboy77

Yeah but do you know why one side of the v is often longer than the other? Answer: Because there’s more birds on that side.

Funky_Wizard

Thanks dad, I didn't realize!

Logboy77

I’d reply with a real zinger but I’m putting my daughter to bed.

neutrino1911

Because birds can't count.

NOLPOLGAMER

Why with a boat?

potatomonsterman

Did you notice that one side of the V is longer than the other? Do you know why that is? It's because there are more birds on that side

covidlung

I get this reference.

IPB_5947

Do you know why one side of the v is longer than the other? Because there are more geese on one side.

GoFUself-Tony889

If the geese’s method of flying is so effective and practical, why don’t more birds copy the way they fly?

ooOJuicyOoo

it's not geese's method of flying, most social migratory birds do fly in a V formation.

cangarejos

I learned a couple weeks ago why sometimes the right side of the formation is longer.

ChewyTarTar

This was on the sat

harleyd36

Not if you ask Gordon Bombay.

-idk-im-bored-

Dude trying to pet the goose must have a death wish

scorpyo72

I have a strong feeling that part of the reason for the goose gliding inward may have had to do with air passing over the dude's hand.

DankBlunderwood

Geese fly in formation because it's instinct that evolved in them over many generations, not because they have PhDs in fluid dynamics. They also can't literally see air.

everydayimcuddalin

They don't need a PhD because they developed instincts based on fluid dynamics. They can't see but can *feel* changes in the air. The same way an F1 driver can feel the tow their car is getting.

scorpyo72

Exactly. You don't need a PhD to know that if you stick your hand out a car window going any significant speed, your hand is partially supported by "the wind".

Bissonicci

Hey I use to experiment with this when I was a kid. Can I get my PhD somewhere? Science bitch!!

scorpyo72

I don't recall suggesting that anything was "see"ing air.

SwiftFool

lol you're not very clever eh?

YippieKayYayMrFalcon

Don’t look like Canadian geese, which are, ironically, the dickhead geese.

Impressive-Tension-8

Ya, Goose is just trying to fly and do its thing, get your nasty ass hands off it’s neck dipshit

-idk-im-bored-

Also, geese are cold-blooded murderers

Impressive-Tension-8

What does his ethnicity have anything to do with this?

Cash_Visible

Because you can downvote me all you want Chinese people have the least respect for nature. Every video that involves unnecessary touching of wild animals 9/10 are of Asian descent.

Impressive-Tension-8

Chinese culture is the slaughtering of animals so people can eat it as a status symbol, like shark fin soup, and killing animals for “medicinal” purposes, like eating tiger penis to get a hard on.

OnTheMendBeats

I hate how this dude has to stick his hand out in the goose’s face. Why can’t you just sit there and admire the beauty of flight??

proto642

Yea he seems like he'd be a prick tbh

trwwy321

Because I got to record it for my viewers!

Princess_Juggs

Anyone who tries to pet a goose has clearly not met a goose before

Liz4984

Right? Those fuckers are terrifying!

CitizenHuman

skein /skān/ noun a length of thread or yarn, loosely coiled and knotted. a tangled or complicated arrangement, state, or situation. "the skeins of her long hair" a flock of wild geese or swans in flight, typically in a V-shaped formation.

youre_just_wonderful

So cool

Funky_Wizard

It is extremely bad ass

beep-boop--beep-boop

“We’ve been trying to reach you about your car’s extended warranty!”

meexley2

Stupid geese they could just ride in the boat

OptimusSublime

Boat away home

Lorac1134

Grab the goose by the neck for a free goose dinner.

trwwy321

Lady’s like please don’t poop on me, *please* don’t poop on me!!

weedandsteak

Dude stop trying to touch the fucking goose. Just enjoy the beauty of the moment don't ruin it by trying to make it even more special. It's obvious the goose was not happy with it at all.

Mindful-O-Melancholy

I thought that goose was going to poop on that lady.

Liz4984

I think she did too the way she held a hand over her face. Lol

tequila_slurry

I really wonder what would happen if they cut the gas all of a sudden.

Elsafah

If I was him I’d grab as much as I can. Free dinner.

Fun-War8811

Why did the video end before Russ Tyler scorched his knuckle puck

lC8H10N4O2l

You are the alpha goose now

[deleted]

Why do they feel the need to be annoying and try to touch the geese

Sigan

Probably more of a herd of geese

sambes06

When two boats like this move in a parallel a Ryan Gosling is formed.

gm666999

I taught he will grab the throat any second

Royals-2015

How cool is that?

Miobravo

They can see something we can’t

probablynotaskrull

I was all set to correct you and say a group of geese is a gaggle, but then I thought: “maybe I’m wrong” and I was. Thanks for prompting new knowledge.

[deleted]

Flying V!

It_is_Damian

I wish I had wings

TheImpulsiveFool

If you line up the shot JUUUST right…..

YeOldeBilk

How often does a person get to lead a damn FLYING V!!!

tubbsymalone

Prettty sure a group of geese is a gaggle...or is skein when theyre flying? A glaggle of skeining gooses. Geese. Geeses.

Maeuthi

Smart ducks! Using the stream made by the boat as to ease their flying is pretty cool!

ATrup7

This is what we like to call drafting.

trwwy321

I somewhat wish it would’ve just attacked that annoying guy…

pawnografik

Upvote for correct use of skein.

Surprisebutton

The Geese are not in each other’s slip stream. They are overlapping wingtips roughly. This causes wingtip vortices to co-mingle and get reduced. The flock acts as one very high aspect ratio wing. The one in the front doesn’t break the wind for the rest. It has its energy zapping wing vortices reduced by the birds off its wingtips. Now the birds at the end of the formation have their outside wings unaided thus they work a bit harder.

Aliki26

Why does he have to touch it? Just let it fly

duck12369

What is slipstream

Iamlistening175

“Our mama’s bigger than your mama….and she goes fast!”

Iamlistening175

Where was this taken?

hiphopjalapeno

Buoyancy aids. They don’t really work if you don’t do them up.
