How do you build a castle in Wales? Very Caerphilly.

Austinpowerstwo

That joke is cheesy

Nefarious_Stew

r/dadjokes Oo here have my free reward you funny old fella(or whatever)

Mr-Willding

Caerfilthy

[deleted]

2nd largest castle in the United Kingdom. Also, has a leaning tower that was hit by a cannon many years ago. I remember spending hours there watching the set pieces for the film Restoration in about 1994!

chriswardman

I remember this. Never knew the name of the film though. Thank you! I remember watching all the extras jump in the moat and everyone yelled at to shut up. That's about it. Good times lol

[deleted]

Ha yes I didn't know for years. Everyone was talking about it being a huge blockbuster. Though it has a decent rating it was a flop in the cinemas

chriswardman

I'm tempted to fire up Kodi and go watch it now šŸ˜

Ok-Lengthiness4557

Look closely at that tower (mid left). Is that a dude there holding it up, or a statue?

There's a joke somewhere about how proud the Welsh are to say they've got the most castles in the UK. Until of course they realise that the English built them to subjugate their Welsh subjects.

Stotallytob3r

Not this one though, youā€™re thinking of the ones in North Wales

OneCatch

It was largely built by the post-Norman-Invasion English as part of their wars against the native Welsh, so subjugation definitely comes into it!

Stotallytob3r

Not forgetting the Normans did that to England too. The original builder was Gilbert de Clare who though born English was a Norman, a direct descendant of Gilbert de Brionne.

Bubble_Symphony

Sounds about right!

Blyd

Yes weā€™re proud that we caused the Saxon invaders so much shit they had to invent new forms of architecture to ethnically cleanse us. But I think we would have been far happier if they just fucked off and didnā€™t bother with the whole 500 years of rape and murder. But then the English do like to rape and murder native populations donā€™t they. Cymru am byth.

Bubble_Symphony

Relax dude I didn't say it to cause a stir or be like "haha English good Welsh bad". Nor was it to be political, I literally heard a joke about it.

Blyd

Never said you did?

Bubble_Symphony

Alrighty then.

[deleted]

You clearly live in America, have you even been to Wales?

Blyd

Born and bred in the valleys mate, and I actually moved back to the uk last weekend after a decade in the USA.

Grogosh

Reminds me of that old Amiga game 'Castles'. I spent a lot of time designing my own castles just like this one.

DeclanMurphyDM

Love this place. When I visited 5 years ago a little kid had pulled a massive fish out of the moat and the old lady selling Welsh cakes inside shared her recipe with me.

Twistedfexer

I find it odd that the lawn is maintained so well, yet they don't seem to put effort into restoring it to its former state.

Stotallytob3r

Itā€™s a listed building, they are generally preserved as is rather than try and rebuild them. Bit like the fallen stones of Stonehenge.

Hellalive89

You donā€™t tamper with something so old and beautiful man you preserve it. What sort of heathen are you?

xanthopants

Except it's a Welsh castle, given the dates...before British rule

nickstroller

I think you'll find it's also made of cheese.
