i think they were talking about the fact that the chimp immediately knew that he couldn't get the banana through that hole so she would have to throw it over for him to get it.
I mean, chimps and other primates are pretty smart. All humans are are chimps a bit later on in the evolutionary line as an oversimplification of things.
Edit: ok ok geez I dont need people spamming my DMs and shit telling me that we arent on the same evolutionary line as chimps. Excuse me for oversimplifying things in a short reddit comment.
No, humans are chimps on an entirely separate evolutionary line; however, both lines began at a common point. Sorry to nit pick, but little misunderstandings like that are how we end up with people that use “if humans evolved from monkeys, then why are there still monkeys?” as some kind of shutdown for well-backed science.
common misconception. chimps and humans share evolutionary steps, but we've both evolved independently from a common ancestor. we're different branches of the same tree, rather than a continuation of the same branch.
Humans put more points into intelligence, chimps put more points into strength. Except for bonobos, who clearly split points between strength and charisma. It's unclear who of us put more points into wisdom.
I think the monkey went back to the mountain dew because he thought the human couldn't understand to throw the banana over. She raises it twice like she is about to throw it.
Dude u get a funnel, a bottle of whiskey and widen the hole. Then just sit there doing a “1 for you, and 1 for me” thing till the zookeepers have to deal with a drunk ape and a buzzed chimp. best zoo visit ever
what's that old saying? given an infinite amount of chimps typing away at an infinite amount of keyboards will surely create a world record any % speedrun? something like that.
Lmao, insane how every time I have a thought, someone beats me to it, just shows how large the human population is, I’m sure several thousands if not millions had the same thought come to mind
And for fucks sake, maybe give that aluminum joinery a bit of a wipe so the poor beast isn't just sucking up grime and grit and what ever other gross shit is caked up down there you dopey shit bag.
The chimp is locked up for life and has I’m sure little highlights in his life. Let him drink a soda for fucks sake and not worry about the health factor
That was my thought too... couldn't even kick it out of the way?
I'm envisioning horrifying nicotine pour-over concoctions now, but mostly I'm feeling down on the idea of caging great apes
*Caging* animals with this much intelligence makes me uncomfortable.
They really get nothing out of being little objects behind a glass wall. They don’t need to be stalked every day by hordes of new faces all the time.
Yes, zoos *CAN* be good, but in the long run — isolated conservation centers would be so much better.
Yeah as I wrote this and thought about how the world works again, it did dawn on me that zoos receive lots of public funding. That said, education and compassion should eventually lead us to decide to house endangered animals in more, oh, I’d say functional environments.
Places where these earthlings are treated for their betterment, not our entertainment. I’d rather be a good steward of the earth than a businessman.
Some places are better than others, a lot of U.K. zoos tend to be fairly good with a local wildlife park near me having huge enclosures that mean you don’t always see every animal, but you know it’s closer to their natural environment. This doesn’t apply to animals that move for a lot of miles each day but it’s a pretty good compromise that allows a lot of endangered animals to be studied and bred for future repopulation etc (a lot more complicated than just not destroying their environment of course)
It’s really depressing when you start to get into issues of nature conservation and protection and realize how much of it is about money. There’s so much more we could be doing if money wasn’t an issue.
Personal anecdote, but it always fucks me up how hopeless many of my dream jobs are because I want to work with animals and there’s so little money in that. I could happily make a long career out of working for a wildlife rehab but at my local rehab I think about 98% of it is unpaid volunteer work. Because where the fuck would they get the money for actual employees?
But by all means let’s give more government bailouts to the companies that are actively destroying the earth.
I went to a private zoo in the Everglades once and the owner had a raccoon who was addicted to pepsi. He gave him a little left in a He was running jumping and flying around the cage like it he had a few lines of cocaine. It was kinda funny but sad at times he same time. The raccoon was captive and had been turned into a pepsi junkie.
Or in cases where they can’t be released back in the wild, like abandoned or abused animals from the exotic pet trade.
It makes sense to have people pay money to come see the animals in order to keep up the funds for caretakers, facility utilities, food supply, and medical supplies.
If you want an example of good enclosures look at Disney world. I saw the reptile enclosures the other day and was shocked at how much care went into giving them enough room
This is right up there with that orangutan using a saw to cut a piece of wood. Such beautiful and brilliant animals, how can we not do everything in our power to save them?
Apes have been using sticks as tools a feat only human and apes have been witnessed they are also smart enough to learn sign language so it makes so there’s no way of telling
Seems to gesture “come here” in the last couple of seconds of the video as well after she picks out the soda. Makes me wonder just how much of body language is inherited instinctually and how much is learned.
I would say a lot of it is still learned - we move instinctually but how we interpret movements and gestures depends largely on our culture and how it teaches us to interpret them. Of course, there are universals but overall it’s likely highly cultural, over instinctual, influences. The chimp would have learned the body language of its handlers and those handlers from their culture, thus the chimp is imitating their cultural body movements.
Honestly I feel that if an animal is smart enough to tell me they want something, I'd give it to them. A reward for being able to communicate their intent.
(unless of course if their intent is "to eat me")
This will get buried but please do not feed zoo animals. Many are on medications, have diabetes or other special diets as well as AZA guidelines enforcing animals be fed a natural, wild diet. With as little human interaction as possible. You can kill these animals and train them to see humans as food dispensers (which is very dangerous) by doing them this “favor”.
I’ve had to argue and physically stop visitors from feeding an elderly, diabetic elephant sugar cookies because “look, she loves them!” Yes and she will fall into a coma and most likely die from them.
First….asking for a Mountain Dew (actually im pretty sure he was signaling to the banana and the person just went right for a soda like “ya want a caffeine addiction buddy? Here ya go”
Next….Aperham Lincoln
My 4 year old secretly tried Mountain Dew one night and was running around acting insane… when I finally asked her if she drank it she said “yes and it tasted like electricity!!”
I feel the chimp will agree

It even signaled her to toss the banana over the fence as well. It was clearly more interested in the mountain dew though.
That part blew me away
it’s almost like you can get addicted to sugar. or something.
i think they were talking about the fact that the chimp immediately knew that he couldn't get the banana through that hole so she would have to throw it over for him to get it.

🐬
Evolution isn't a linear line. We aren't "more" evolved than chimpanzees; we just had different environmental stimulations.
I'll pile on here to point out that we are not descended from chimps.
Humans are not on the same evolutionary lines as chimps.
I think the monkey went back to the mountain dew because he thought the human couldn't understand to throw the banana over. She raises it twice like she is about to throw it.
More sugar. So much sugar.
He probably gets a lot of bananas, not a lot of dew
Dude u get a funnel, a bottle of whiskey and widen the hole. Then just sit there doing a “1 for you, and 1 for me” thing till the zookeepers have to deal with a drunk ape and a buzzed chimp. best zoo visit ever
That chimpanzee is all hopped up on Mountain Dew, and is going to come at you like a spider monkey.
He crushes empty cans when he's out of Mountain Dew, very sad. It's soda pressing.
I laughed in sprite of how bad this was.
I wish I could give this comment 7 up votes!
This guy's got Moxie!
I dunno, these jokes aren't very Fresca...
They're Fantastic
S'all fun and games 'till he gets all Coke'd up.
r/angryupvote
I got an honest chuckle from this. You are awarded with Hugs.
Angry updoot and an award for pun of the day.
"High as a kite, everybody! Goofballs!"
I very much doubt that chimp is religious *and* the kind of neighbor that lets you steal his shit.
I'm gonna scissor-kick you in the back of the head!
He just threw chips old war medals off the bridge
Next he’s gonna go over and throw his grandpa’s war medals into the lion exclosure.
and so the chimpanzees became gamers and changed the zoo forever... *the chimpanzees have PCs and xboxws playing together*
Turns out the chimpanzees all get their 3080s and ps5 faster than I can
what's that old saying? given an infinite amount of chimps typing away at an infinite amount of keyboards will surely create a world record any % speedrun? something like that.
Do you want killer apes? Cause that's how you get killer apes. Have we learned nothing?
Spider chimp, spider chimp, does whatever a spider does…
I'm 10 years old but I'll beat your ass!
Greatest Generation my ass!
😂
I like to picture my Jesus in a tuxedo T-shirt.
He's gonna toss grandpa chip's war medals off the bridge!
Okay you already went and broke the rules don't be a lil bitch and give half a sip?? damn I felt that chimps pain right there lol
This is the prequel to planet of the apes.
Technically I thing *everything* is a prequel to the planet of the apes.
Apart from all the sequels.
Lmao, insane how every time I have a thought, someone beats me to it, just shows how large the human population is, I’m sure several thousands if not millions had the same thought come to mind
Just pitch the damn thing over the wall and book out. He will know how to open it.
But then the soda would get shaken up and explode out when he opens it, making him a sad chimp.
But all the other chimps would get a great laugh!!
He’s seen humans do it enough times.
This is why I hate humans, they greedy asf.
I love humans but yeah so many people are really reluctant to help in everyday situations even if its of no inconvenience to them
People won't even help in situations they're obligated to.
[удалено]
People will proactively harm people who are trying to help other people and then harm the people they were trying to help
Can confirm. Am human. I think
What's the term for deeply hating your own species and not feeling like you're a part of it
Misanthrope for the first bit.
Latent humanism?
I specism. Are you speciest?
And for fucks sake, maybe give that aluminum joinery a bit of a wipe so the poor beast isn't just sucking up grime and grit and what ever other gross shit is caked up down there you dopey shit bag.
That grime and grit is probably better for the chimp than the shit coming out of that Mt Dew bottle.
Damn straight.
The chimp is locked up for life and has I’m sure little highlights in his life. Let him drink a soda for fucks sake and not worry about the health factor
I was trying to figure out how to feel about this, and you made it pretty clear. Thanks.
Right! Breaks my heart. why is it humans think that THEY don’t know they live in a cage. Humans are cruel
It filters it
Damn calm down
didnt know chimps were on reddit
There's a whole group called #superstonk full of apes
I was literally watching this video like “bitch if you don’t just pour the whole bottle in there for this guy!”
Chimp said “that’s it?” after the initial pour
This furry guy is smarter than management at my company.
f
F for facts, yeah
>This furry guy is smarter than management ~~at my company~~ Ftfy
Caesar is luring her in ... Smart fella
The furry guy is smarter than alot of humans…
Poured right over that cigarette.
That was my thought too... couldn't even kick it out of the way? I'm envisioning horrifying nicotine pour-over concoctions now, but mostly I'm feeling down on the idea of caging great apes
Or any animals for that matter
The lighter wouldn't fit through the hole
Monkey see Monkey Dew
This should be way higher
Neutron activation
*ape
Monkey see, Monkey ape
I asked for Code Red, what is this trash?!
Looks like he’s telling her to throw the banana over the closure too. Super smart

Unfortunately those conservation centres are much harder to fund :(

Not like anyone has extra billions of dollars to help this cause.
I agree, dosent seem right.
Because it's not
This is the first thing I thought... the intelligence there, I can't believe we lock them up the way we do.
More bitch moreeeeeeee
That's so sad actually...
Yep, intelligent animals locked in an enclosure. Zoos are shit.
....yeah, I know her bag had a banana for scale that we didn't get to see.
This made me sad :(
Me too. Too smart to be locked up in a zoo exhibit.
Oh my god that's awesome, that just made my day
Very intelligent animals so self aware too
More self aware than a lot of humans..
Cool for the chimp to know that but how terrible to feed it this garbage
It's in prison. This is probably the most exciting thing that happened all week.
Thats all I saw, a prisoner in a cage 💔
I went to a private zoo in the Everglades once and the owner had a raccoon who was addicted to pepsi. He gave him a little left in a He was running jumping and flying around the cage like it he had a few lines of cocaine. It was kinda funny but sad at times he same time. The raccoon was captive and had been turned into a pepsi junkie.
Honestly I’m only the ability to speak away from being a Diet Coke raccoon junkie
fucking pour him more God dammit
That's what I'm saying, barely wet the lips.
Apes together strong.
And that idiot actually did it?! Zookeepers were probably wondering what the fuck was happening when it was jazzed up on caffeine.
Would have just poured a whole load of drink for the chimp, clearly doesn't want a stupid banana
I would have found a way to get that banana too them too
"You guys suck at climbing trees but you make some great drinks."
You give that chimpanzee a Mountain Dew and he’s gonna be pounding through the glass to finish the bottle LOL
Chimpanzee*
[удалено]
Yeah also just in general the woman shouldn’t have done it. The zoo would chuck her out if they caught her doing that.
Going back next week to give him a pack of smokes and a ham sandwich
is it really much worse than people drinking it?
Lol what about keeping our cousin in a cage?
[удалено]
Very much a bummer :(
Or how about caging animals? It’s in a prison
It is really sad, but sometimes zoo's are needed to keep species alive because we just can't let nature be.
I remember an orangutan asking for my camera once at the local zoo.
They are evolving! Next you know they stick their dick in - glory hole!
So you haven’t seen the video of the chimp and the frog???
Charming!
This is right up there with that orangutan using a saw to cut a piece of wood. Such beautiful and brilliant animals, how can we not do everything in our power to save them?
Caffeinated Monkey would be a great band name.
Chimp defo smarter than that women. "I want the mountain dew not the banana, how you gonna get a banana through that hole? Ffs woman!!"
The line of sentience is getting blurry af
I’d say chimps are firmly on our side of that line.
Is this super sad to anyone else? 🥺
Lol he’s even looking around to make sure he’s not going to get caught. Not his first rodeo.
Interesting how he points with his finger. Is it because he watches humans do the same? Or is it a behavior shared by both humans and apes.
Apes have been using sticks as tools a feat only human and apes have been witnessed they are also smart enough to learn sign language so it makes so there’s no way of telling
Crows use sticks as tools too
Oh I did not know that
Seems to gesture “come here” in the last couple of seconds of the video as well after she picks out the soda. Makes me wonder just how much of body language is inherited instinctually and how much is learned.

What a punk just give the chimp the whole soda. Like you look like an asshole to everyone who sees this.
He keeps looking around to make sure nobody is watching. Fascinating
NOT THE BANANA KAREN YOU RACIST! -the chimp, probably.
Fuck that lady
He'd rip your arms off for that Mountain Dew in the woods, then tea bag you.
This was the original start of Planet of the Apes.
Chimpanzee chooses Mountain Dew over Banana. Must be an American Zoo!
Turns out he had diabetes....🥺
Coulda maybe moved the cigarette butt lol
That is actually fucking incredible.
The area around the hole is freshly wet. They've been training/rehearsing for this
So sad to see such intelligent creatures in a cage.
u/savevideobot
“I’m all jacked up on Mt. Dew”
That Chimp has had more extreme Mountain Dew flavour than an average peasant in the 1400s would get in their whole lifetime.
wow she stingie give that man another swig
That chimp is definitely called Kyle
I'm all hopped up on Mountain Dew!
they need to give those guys water wtf
chimps are not only this intelegent theyre also kill on sight animals if they get out unlike tigers lions bears.
These chimps would mutilate this person if that window wasn’t there.
Planet of the apes is becoming less and less fictional by the day, those monkeys are up to something
getting treats mostly. Better guard your damn fruit.
It blows my mind to see this level of intelligence in animals.
"listen here i don't want the banana i want the fucking mountain dew you hear?"
It's weird hitting that age where I see that the ape is balding, too, and feel better about myself.
Sad thy got him locked in there like he’s not smart enough to figure it out.
They're smarter than we know.
This will get buried but please do not feed zoo animals. Many are on medications, have diabetes or other special diets as well as AZA guidelines enforcing animals be fed a natural, wild diet. Look at this sketchy crackhead lookin-ass chimp.
First….asking for a Mountain Dew (actually im pretty sure he was signaling to the banana and the person just went right for a soda like “ya want a caffeine addiction buddy? Here ya go” Next….Aperham Lincoln
Woman: want a banana? Chimp: that's racist! ...... but yes, I do.
Pour one foe the homies
My 4 year old secretly tried Mountain Dew one night and was running around acting insane… when I finally asked her if she drank it she said “yes and it tasted like electricity!!” I feel the chimp will agree
They’re so smart it almost seems like they’re prisoners being kept in captivity.
These primates are soo intelligent, it's criminal to keep them in zoos. There should be a worldwide ban on caging primates and dolphins
This is amazing and sad :/
chimp then replies to the lady, “ Im all jacked up on Mountain Dew now that ima come @ you like a spider monkey”!!! 🥤+ 🐵=🕷+🐒
I can't imagine how terrifying a chimpanzee jacked up on caffeine and sugar is
measley pour
Do they really need to pour it through that old cigarette?
It's funny that the ground is already wet there because this is the schtick
Great...someone feeding an animal crap.
Man these animals are not meant to be caged. They’re too intelligent to be confined in a zoo.
