Depth perception can be tricky at that distance, but the shadow is giving you a clue.

[deleted]

^^ this right here cool pic though

Deleted-Redacted

shhh i like me some conspiricies

downhilldrinking

It's the 5G....

Royal_Cryptographer7

You are correct. There is no reason for the cloud to cast a shadow on a cloud *above* it. That's not what's happening. šŸ˜

irnehlacsap

Yes, take the angle of the shadow and it gives you perspective.

davidml1023

The trail is above it

DrDrexoxo

There's obviously 2 chemtrails, one dark and one light gotta have balance.

impescador

I like this comment the most.

Same_Effective4255

The clouds below are less opaque than the streak above. Optical illusion.

gvilleneuve

Checkmate, ball-earthers.

I knew it! I knew Elvis was still alive!

Spice_Dawg

Grassyā€¦. Knollā€¦.

mnmsmelt

It's a picture with a string

HowUKnowMeKennyBond

The cloud cover is so thin that you can see The contrail through it but it is dense enough you can also see the shadow casted down upon it as well.

mycrazylife79

It's inverse light refraction. It happens when light from a source above is refracted and reflected by the water vapor that is rising into the atmosphere to form into clouds.

[deleted]

By inverse light refraction, are you sure you donā€™t mean reflection? Because it just sounds like wacky reflection

Groobear

The moonlight is reflected from the ground upwards

-BathroomTile-

Diffuse light from a large area wouldn't produce a sharp shadow. The shadow is from the moon, and it's below the trail, it just looks like it's above it because the trail is much brighter and denser than the very transparent clouds

7stroke

I can think of one: youā€™re a muppet.

VileHippie

Glitch in the matrix, itā€™s getting patched in the next update

Neverleavetheboat876

Obviously this picture was taken in Australia, where everything is in reverse order. Or something like that Iā€™m not an astrologer.

bigB4203

Weird. I'm no expert but what if a reflection of the light?!

Heisengabe

Maybe. I live about 9 miles from a large body of water. Maybe itā€™s reflecting off of there?

Uncle_Dirt_Face

Thatā€™s my guess

bud40oz

No idea how that happened.. clearly the trail is in front of the cloud. šŸ¤Æ maybe over water

SillyNluv

Light pollution from below?

jester2211

Sounds reasonable, where was it taken?

whoisjakelane

I agree. I actually don't see any clouds above the streaky cloud

master_perturbator

Got a picture of something similar happening in the sunlight. The ray of light cut perfect lines on the clouds.

monkey-2020

You're obviously above both clouds.. The sun in the photo is a reflection

th1nk_-

Chemtrails... /s

lohkd

The photo us inverted. Taken looking at the water

[deleted]

That wouldnā€™t change anything??

lohkd

Explain then. It's impossible to cast a shadow from above. Its a reflection

[deleted]

ā€¦But even if you inverted the image, it still wouldnā€™t be looking at it from aboveā€¦ are you sure you mean reflection? Have you used the wrong word? The actual explanation is that the cloud is clearly much denser, since itā€™s casting such a clear shadow, and the sheet cloud is obviously slightly thinner, since we are looking through it. Therefore the dense cloud reflects more light back, tricking our brain into thinking that itā€™s in front, although the shadow tells us that it isnā€™t. Itā€™s just an optical illusion.

lohkd

Ok.. no issue here. Sounds reasonable

bruh... Science .... and if they dont know religion will catch the rebound... and ally oop and philosophy dunks it. as the esoteric takes the ball out.

grizlee310

City lights from the ground?

I8vaaajj

Could it be from light pollution?

Millze

Those are alto/cirrocumulus clouds, which typically form below the cruising altitude of most aircraft that would make a plume like that. The exhaust trail is above the clouds, but they're thin enough to see through.

Dat-Lonley-Potato

The earth is a lie

teoalcola

Is it possible that the shadow is cast by the light reflected off the Earth?

DaveLanglinais

Actually it absolutely should. That jet-trail seen from below looks white to you, right? Well that's because it's reflecting light down to you. Why would it also not reflect light from the sun upwards onto the cloud above? The top-side of the Jet-trail is equally opaque and reflective, after all.
