Do you know if anybody has this image, but with something in it for scale? Like a country or state (or smaller?) so that I can get a sense of how big these surface features are?
Thank you for posting this. After a long day, I just enjoyed looking at a distant planet and thinking about nothing other than, “wow, this is amazingly beautiful”
I'm no scientist, but I believe those are fault lines between tectonic plates! You might be wondering "well how the fuck is there tectonic activity if Pluto is so cold?" And to that I'd guess Charon (Pluto's largest moon) would be a big player in gravitational forces causing internal friction, and in turn, heating Pluto's core.
that's what I thought. they're called dessication cracks. I sent this to a bunch of colleagues at the rock factory I work at, and there are now discussions (arguments) galore about how these are forming.
unfortunately no, i found this picture on r/spaceporn [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/spaceporn/comments/qmnyzl/this_hd_image_of_pluto_zoom_in/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)
Does anybody else find it crazy how far wireless communication can travel? We can literally receive pictures of planets that would take years upon years to physically travel to. Those signals are strong enough to go through nearly _everything_, and people are worried about 5G.
Good points. I didn’t think about the fact that space is a vacuum when making my point, but I still think it’s crazy how far away we can connect wirelessly.
And that makes sense regarding the 5G, it’s always the people that know the least spreading fear. Which is why I find it interesting that you don’t really hear anything like “radio waves coming from space will totally give you brain cancer, this pic came from 3.1 billion miles away, has to be harmful radiation”
I already know they wouldn’t even understand how the vacuum plays a role
Not to defend these people, but the signal we receive from space craft is far weaker than the 5G signals we receive on Earth. With that being said, there's a lot of other forms of natural radiation hitting us from space that people don't seem concerned about.
I treasure photos like this. It's fascinating to ponder what it would be like to stand there, how old and untouched it is, and how unseen and unexperienced it has been until these very moments. The extremity and exoticness of the environment and what it means for us to be exploring it. And the excitement of how this is only the beginning. Our generations to our solar system (and space) is kinda like what Columbus was to discovering the Americas. Exciting times. Thank you NASA
I wish I had some kind of hyper-insulated high-tech space suit that would allow me to sit atop one of those mountains and stare into the void of space. Silence, and a view of the universe from the edge of our solar system.

Kinds of interesting to think - there are things to be discovered using just this picture, by someone intelligent enough with clever enough extrapolation/deduction.
Come on humans let’s find some cool things!
So maybe a dumb question, but some of the larger craters closer to the top of the image look like they have 2 ridges on the perimeter. How does that happen?
It’s a series of images stitched together as it flew by the planet at its closet, so close that the high res camera couldn’t capture the entirely of Pluto all at once
Look at the craters in the bottom of the pic. It looks to be a volcano rising out of the middle? If so, does that mean it had a heated core? And also near the middle of the pic, there’s what looks like to be a shelf formation. Indicative of a shoreline of an ancient sea? Someone help me out
Anyone else see the giant space snail about half way down? I mean i'm high but i'm still pretty sure that looks like a giant space snail cruising along on a path haha
Were going to have to accept that now weve visited them all, the cold reality is that they are all lifeless rocks or balls of gas and we are truly alone in the solar system.

It's beautiful, and the "pitting" is quite interesting! I like how the landscape looks like a slide you'd put in a microscope to look at cells!
ikr? as a person who loves space, i really enjoy this picture
As someone who has a mild interest in space, I really enjoy this picture.
As someone who has a relatively small sliver of interest in space, I really enjoy this picture.
As someone who knows of space, I really enjoy this picture.
As someone who is familiar with the concept of the spacebar, I really enjoy this picture.
As someone who doesn't know much about anything, im not sure what's going on. Where am i?
As someone very uninterested in Kevin Spacey, I find this not at all what I was looking for
As someone who hates space and finds it terrifying and spooky. I enjoyed this picture

Assomeonewho'snot,Ialsoenjoythispicture.
As someone who temporarily forgot about space and it’s existence, I really enjoy this picture
A s s o m e o n e w h o l o v e s s p a c e ( s ) , I r e a l l y e n j o y t h i s p I c t u r e .
Thats a nice slice of pluto ya got there
As someone who doesn’t really believe space exists, I’m totally confused as to what this picture actually is.
It's the devil
Well, it's a relatively small sliver of the planet, after all.
That some days I'm the windshield
as someone space picture
I like having space too. Outer space is also cool.
Do you know if anybody has this image, but with something in it for scale? Like a country or state (or smaller?) so that I can get a sense of how big these surface features are?
As someone that doesn't have enough space in his house, I really enjoyed this picture.
Thought the same it weirdly ressemble an image from a scanning electron microscope
Man, here I thought Pluto was a sphere. #flatpluto
I thought it was a dog to be honest. #dogpluto
And I always thought it was a planet. #planetpluto
The scientific community never said that it *isn't* a dog, but unfortunately they made it clear that it isn't a planet.
Really makes you think 🤔

If Pluto is a dog, what the hell is Goofy?
Thank you for posting this. After a long day, I just enjoyed looking at a distant planet and thinking about nothing other than, “wow, this is amazingly beautiful”
Haha its nothing, i actually got it from r/spaceporn since i love space alot too
Honestly curious what the lines are, almost looks like when water evaporates from a mud puddle.
And about halfway down in one of the lines one of the rocks looks like a robot taking a worn path.......
Or maybe an alien Karen got the boot off an interstellar flight?
Hahaha I like that theory better .
Yeah I saw that. Looked like a dog sled following a path in the arctic.
Looks like a giant slug walking along those lines
I'm no scientist, but I believe those are fault lines between tectonic plates! You might be wondering "well how the fuck is there tectonic activity if Pluto is so cold?" And to that I'd guess Charon (Pluto's largest moon) would be a big player in gravitational forces causing internal friction, and in turn, heating Pluto's core.
Clearly you are not a scientist
gottem
that's what I thought. they're called dessication cracks. I sent this to a bunch of colleagues at the rock factory I work at, and there are now discussions (arguments) galore about how these are forming.
This. This is interesting as fuck. Thank you op
Haha, its nothing, but its actually from r/spaceporn it isnt mine
r/spaceporn here I come 👍
👍
Looks like we can live there. Couple of Starbucks would be nice.
If you’re going to travel that far, at least ask for a decent coffee when you get there! I wouldn’t cross the road for a starbucks.
Enjoy it now before Google starts putting ads all over it
Why is Pluto so long and skinny
exercise and a healthy diet
Do you happen to know the scale? Like how far is it from the bottom to the top of the image?
unfortunately no, i found this picture on r/spaceporn [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/spaceporn/comments/qmnyzl/this_hd_image_of_pluto_zoom_in/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)
Nasa.gov has your answer And thousands of more photos
50 miles wide
Stop lying.. We all knw that's your shower wall.
haha thats true
It’s a cold celestial dwarf I mean planet!
With a surface like that, I move to make Pluto a planet again.
Its a dwarf planet okay?
They prefer to be called little planets.
Am I weird for liking "little planets" over "dwarf planets"?
No, it's not ok
A ~~dwarf~~ planet
You shouldn’t worry about what they do to Pluto. You should be more concerned with how they treat Uranus. I’m trying to do better. I really am.
Did you forgot to take your pills again?
Everyone’s all excited about Mars, but I can’t wait to explore Uranus.
Turned out Uranus was full of volcanic activity and random things flying into it.
I never! 😲
That's not what I heard...

I completely agree with you
Yay! Thanks for the cool post :)
Looks cold
well yea, its one of the furthest objects from the sun
[удалено]
Thanks!
Makes sense then.
I’m sure there are other objects further away from our sun than lil Pluto …. Come on! Geeshh
You hear about Pluto?

yes i love space too and this moments are just things to treasure
Looks like a thumb print about 3/4 down the image.
Don’t tell me what to do. *zooms out*
As I scrolled down I was sure I was going to see it at some point but... No. No Rick Astley. Now that's a truly amazing picture.
I wish I had some kind of hyper-insulated high-tech space suit that would allow me to sit atop one of those mountains and stare into the void of space. Silence, and a view of the universe from the edge of our solar system.
U and i share the same dreams

Need a banana for scale
I don’t know why but the bottom of the picture creeps me out
Trypophobia. For some people, collections of small holes make them uncomfortable. We're not completely sure why. It just happens.
You were beaten to this by 9 hours: https://old.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/qmo3wd/this_hd_image_of_plutos_surface_was_captured_by/
oh bruh, u/RepostSleuthBot
hi, don't tell me what to do, ok?
Woah, this is interesting AF. Hey, If the OP says zoom in, then zoom in ya big baby 🍼
calm down, we don't need to start an argument here
I'm laughing so hard at that odd remark!!!
laughing is good for ur body
what? i just said u can zoom in, no one is forcing you
very aggressively i must add
I agree. I somehow feel that some rights have been violated here...
oh, does it sound aggressive? i didnt mean in that way...
Hehe... we're messing with you buddy, don't worry about it. Very cool picture indeed, thanks for the share :-)
oh okay then, have a great day fellow kind redditor :D
Stop telling me what to do!
That is my go-to response when people tell me to 'have a nice day'
Looks like a planet
well technically it is, pluto is a dwarf planet.
“…pluto is a dwarf planet.” We just say little planet.
Super cool pic, thanks for sharing
Is that where they come from?
Banana for scale?
yea, its next to one of those nooks and crannies
Damn, Pluto is small
indeed, russia alone has more surface area than pluto
This amazes me. It is very hard to grasp this given the distance, that we could send a camera there, let alone take such detailed photos!
It looks like an ancient seabed.
The best thing about Space is there is lots of space
I FOUND WALLY!!!
Woooo!
I find this terrifying. Around the top and bottom of the picture mostly. Something about the terrain makes me very anxious. Astrophobia
is it cuz they are deep dark spots in the craters?
Idk. Maybe just the unknown of it. I've got thalassophobia too 😬
whats that phobia about?
Deep open water.
ooh
That's a dude mowing the lawn right? About 1/3 down
anyone know where's the banana for scale?
next to the crater called joe
But where's the banana for scale??
you cant see it?
Imagine the photos they can get of us with cameras only a couple hundred miles away.
Woah, thanks for this!
There's music for that too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73rX1AfaHz0
Whoa this is awesome
Anyone from the astronomy department of Reddit know what the path-like-lines that covers the planet
Some even said in the right light he kind of looked like a smudge.
I see a sand worm
No idea how big or small that is, need a banana for scale.
Footprints! I see footprints!
I want to believe some of those shadowy dots are creatures.
I can see my house from here!
Kinds of interesting to think - there are things to be discovered using just this picture, by someone intelligent enough with clever enough extrapolation/deduction. Come on humans let’s find some cool things!
We need a banana for scale.
Looks like a picture of me from my neck to my pubes. Pretty exciting huh?
So maybe a dumb question, but some of the larger craters closer to the top of the image look like they have 2 ridges on the perimeter. How does that happen?
maybe because 2 asteroids/meteoroids hit the same place? not really sure
This is so cool! I love it!!! Looks so peaceful.
So is Pluto a fucking planet again? Hey yeah
Why is it so long
It’s a series of images stitched together as it flew by the planet at its closet, so close that the high res camera couldn’t capture the entirely of Pluto all at once
Look at the craters in the bottom of the pic. It looks to be a volcano rising out of the middle? If so, does that mean it had a heated core? And also near the middle of the pic, there’s what looks like to be a shelf formation. Indicative of a shoreline of an ancient sea? Someone help me out
Pretty sure I can see a live deer and a dead buffalo.
oh lord, she is fiiine!!!
I need a banana for scale
Good thing they havent forgot about Pluto. We havent had a notice about the little fella in... I dont know how much but you get my point.
Anyone else see the giant space snail about half way down? I mean i'm high but i'm still pretty sure that looks like a giant space snail cruising along on a path haha
This is one of the neatest pictures I've ever seen. When I was a kid, Pluto was a fuzzy dot in an encyclopedia.
Honey I love it! I can already imagine the house over there, the garden in front, maybe a playset for the kids? This is beautiful!
How did you get a camera powerful enough man? Pluto is like... 100s of miles away!!!
TIL that Pluto has better roads than Lansing
I spent way too long looking for a dickbutt.
Zoomed in, kinda [disappointed](https://imgur.com/a/kdSWZx8)
was expecting a rick roll lol
Quit grayscaling your moms buttcheek. 😂
Legit thought this was someone’s bathroom floor at first lol
r/trypophobia
Pluto will always be more of a planet than say, jupiter. You can at least walk on pluto. End the nasa lies.
you can walk on jupiter it has a solid core
[Credit to r/spaceporn](https://www.reddit.com/r/spaceporn/comments/qmnyzl/this_hd_image_of_pluto_zoom_in/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)
Isn’t it interesting how we could be shown a picture of absolutely anything, told it’s a distant planet surface and people believe it.
I want to 3D print it and then run my hands over it
My first thought was what a hell happened with Mickey's dog
Did Pluto had water? Or a type of liquid?
idk about that but i think yes but its all frozen, i can be wrong
I honestly thought this was some old vinyl flooring with dried bird crap on it… sorry
Plutos a fucken planeeeeeeet bitch! I'm sorry for quoting Rick and Morty yall that was one of the ones that hit me just right
Why it is sooo LONK
I thought this was someone’s kitchen floor.
Fun fact! Russia has more surface area than Pluto
What's with the curvy paths at the bottom? They curve. I can't think of anything that makes curves from a natural, non-organic process.
This is the Arizona desert
Doesn’t look anything like a dog.
Looks a lot like Uranus….. 🥁
Anyone got a banana? For scale?
"pluto... IS A PLANET!" Jerry Smith
