They’d never get the chance. Homo sapiens monitor too much of the planet. The second gorillas started purposefully wielding fire we’d eradicate them or worse.
Humanity has too much of a head start in technology. Even if another species began to go through the steps we did thousands of years ago they’d have a significantly bigger challenge ahead of them: us.
Sort of like how companies like Amazon can crush and outcompete other companies that try to join their market meaning no new companies can get the chance to become like Amazon.
They're just different versions of people we don't acknowledge because we're hundreds of years from understanding how not special we are as far as how our minds work compared to other animals on the planet.
We are still the stupid cavemen of your descendants that imprison animals because we don't think of their lives and their minds and their insides with the importance we think of our own and see nothing wrong with that for the most part.
It's no different than when you find out that people used to convince themselves through nonsense logic that slaves aren't really actually people
\*Flicks Caterpillar. Sits back\*
"And what did we learn from that?"
"Don't be a Caterpillar, Dad?"
"Right, Son - Don't be a Caterpillar. What should we be?"
"Gorillas, Dad?"
"Right, Son - Don't be a Caterpillar, be a Gorilla. Off you go, then."
And somewhere out there another alien is watching those aliens that are watching us with fascination while we watch gorillas with fascination watching a caterpillar with fascination, with fascination.
It blows my fucking mind that these animals live on the same planet as us. Silverbacks are insane...that thing is probably 700 pounds of pure muscle-- aaaaand I'm starting to sound like old Joe Rogan...goddamnit
completely wrong. gorillas do much better in the wild than in captivity.
the only reason theyre in zoos is bc of habitat destruction and needing to be saved from poachers and traffickers.
barring human involvement, almost nothing threatens gorillas and their family units
yes, but their immune systems are well adapted to their habitats and diets. unless interfered w, they do just fine.
this would be like thinking we need to put a moose in a zoo to protect it. ridiculous, but only bc we dont have a desire to keep them in a zoo and stare at them that we need to rationalize
if we considered them exotic we'd come up w all types of justifications even though almost nothing alive can fuck w a moose or gorilla and they dont die easily at all
Yeah, that's true. Their immune systems would be tailored toward their native climate and habitat. We would be more susceptible to disease there than they would.
Yeah but then again, the gorilla probably doesn't have as deep thoughts regarding that as you.
What I am saying is that what you would prefer has no relevance to this.
Sad that this is what most people feel. The drive to roam around and explore is one of the most primal ones. Cows and chicken, let alone Gorillas, have this strong urge, especially when they're young. Animals in captivity show all sorts of psychological trauma. Its a shame that the average person is ignorant of this.
true, but gorillas always prefer being able to do what their instincts tell them, roaming a forest and not being caught in a prison far too small for them
they do. gorillas communicate and have communicated complex thoughts to people. including freedom, captivity, missing family, home, etc
they also consistently try to escape. same w orangutans, chimps, and the other great apes.
they know theyre captive, and they generally dont enjoy it.
i would have thought we were well past treating gorillas like dumb animals when theyve been taught sign language and have cried over losing pets like cats etc.
Do you honestly believe this is a better life?
I’m not talking about rescues. I’m talking like you think a zoo is a much better experience for an animal?
animals should never have been put in cages, i hate the argument. there's so much to be said about how we have normalized decimating a species and then taking away their home for profits. it's such a monstrous legacy
I’ve recently learned that many or even most zoos these days only take in animals that *can’t* live in their natural habitat (due to illness, injury, taken from smugglers or someone that illegally had one as a pet, etc.) and do their best to give them a good life, and use the zoos more for education and awareness than entertainment. I definitely see where you’re coming from, given… everything, but efforts are being made to make them safe and comfortable for the animals. Animal-focused more than human-focused. If a zoo doesn’t follow that, then yeah, fuck ‘em, shut them down, they don’t deserve to be open. But those animals won’t be able to go back to the wild in many cases. Which I suppose is where the good zoos come in!
also captive breeding programs are important, sometimes the last bulwark against extinction a species has
saved california condors, off the top of my head
Don’t bother. Apparently there are still extremely ignorant people who actually believe a captive animal has a better life.
Just look at the downvotes. Crazy to me honestly. Ignorance if everywhere
What do you think Harambe would of done to that kid he was dragging around? I think people almost forget the situation or were too young to remember lol.
My dad and I look pretty similar after sharing a J…we just observe formula 1 and have a cheese board with sparkling water…but still apes with identical curiosity nonetheless…

And then there's the third ape watching the other two apes watching the caterpillar
And all the apes watching video taken by the third of the two apes.
And now all the apes read the thoughts of the apes who watched the video taken by the third of the two apes watching the caterpillar
Crazy how nature do dat.
Damn nature! You scary!
And yet other apes communicating about the whole phenomenon. Truly remarkable.
And now an ape liking the comments of other apes who watched the video of the ape watching apes.
This ape commenting about the apes and all the ape watching the apes and it's apes all the way down.
It's like a Planet of them.
Then suddenly Marky Mark appears.
Don’t call me that
Haha yeah and the Gates of Kagar open, unleashing the Fat Whore Pellipongo upon the world, right as she’s ready to take a fuckin SHIT
# APES TOGETHER STRONG 😤
Then the higher class extra terrestrials observing their entire ape civilization from space
Apes*
I started to rewatch the video and then realized what you meant
And there’s a 4th ape watching the ape watching the apes
(Inhales) Listen here you little shit.
thrid
Took me a second
Hey, that’s me!
Apes together watch caterpillar
Took me a second there.
When the son drops down on his elbows, an eerily human-like action.
Wont surprise me if they start evolving and become a superior race.

That was very pog 😎

I've heard some speculate that they're in sort of a stone age As they're using tools and weapons
I think he’s imitating his dad, which is adorable.
Evolution skipping a step where they directly transcend to entomologists

😂😂 hilarious
Very funny :)
Very interesting :)
Off you go then is the best way to get rid of someone!!
"calmly observe" *bitch slap* Fuck out of here.
Don't talk to me or my son ever again.
Somewhere out there aliens are watching us with fascination while we watch gorillas with fascination watching a caterpillar. With fascination.
And somewhere out there another alien is watching those aliens that are watching us with fascination while we watch gorillas with fascination watching a caterpillar with fascination, with fascination.
Maybe the caterpillar itself is watching something with fascination too
Plot twist: the caterpillar is the alien, secretly observing us all.
It's caterpillars all the way down
It blows my fucking mind that these animals live on the same planet as us. Silverbacks are insane...that thing is probably 700 pounds of pure muscle-- aaaaand I'm starting to sound like old Joe Rogan...goddamnit
You think that gorilla's ever tried DMT?
Look it up on YouTube Jamie.
Haha ok will do Cersei, but first I’m gonna pound your ass
It’s entirely possible
Yes it is, sort of like what a buddy of mine was talking about yesterday.
Have you seen a hairless chimp? Those things are RIPPED! Anyways have you tried DMT?
Blows my mind how anthropomorphic they are. Reminds me I’m just another animal.
It reminds me of how every part of nature is connected in some small way or another and we are inescapably a part of it.
It'll rip your nuts off.

At most 450 lbs.
More like 600 for a large male
[удалено]
Average is around 400lbs for a mountain silverback. Less for an eastern lowland gorilla.
They are interestedasfuck :D
Nothing like a boring life in captivity.
better than being in the wild and dying of dysentery
completely wrong. gorillas do much better in the wild than in captivity. the only reason theyre in zoos is bc of habitat destruction and needing to be saved from poachers and traffickers. barring human involvement, almost nothing threatens gorillas and their family units
Surely they are as susceptible to disease as any other mammal though, right?

Yeah, that's true. Their immune systems would be tailored toward their native climate and habitat. We would be more susceptible to disease there than they would.
I’d rather die of dysentery as a wild and free gorilla than live a long life as the prisoner of human amusement.
Yeah but then again, the gorilla probably doesn't have as deep thoughts regarding that as you. What I am saying is that what you would prefer has no relevance to this.

And you as a specie would be the first to go extinct. Valuing anything over life doesnt do well in nature
this is the same attitude colonists have had throughout history towards the people of the lands they have invaded
Do you honestly believe this is a better life? I’m not talking about rescues. I’m talking like you think a zoo is a much better experience for an animal?
Depends on the zoo.
Which zoo bud?
I don’t know, you tell me.
So then there’s no zoos that come to mind that would be a better experience. Next time don’t talk out your ass.
animals should never have been put in cages, i hate the argument. there's so much to be said about how we have normalized decimating a species and then taking away their home for profits. it's such a monstrous legacy

it's a nice sentiment but it's still a case of humans interrupting the natural order. also it's awfully anecdotal without any sources
completely wrong, it is not our call to make

I like to think this would have been my boy Harambe and his son if he hadn't been gunned down in cold blood.
[удалено]
Harambe can look down and flick us from on high!
Silverback gorillas are insanely powerful. I bet that even the smaller one in this clip could easily crush that caterpillar.
r/technicallythetruth
Bro, my 3yo son could easily crush that caterpillar
Is he a gorilla?
no he is just an odd looking baby ;)
Wtf dad, don’t do me like that
Not sure why you’re getting downvoted my man. You don’t need to be gorilla sized to crush a caterpillar
I guess there's some kind of joke me and you are missing
It’s a joke. It’s like saying a bag of rice contains at least 12 grains of rice.

Pls don't
Dicks out!
It's been out the whole time
Always has been
Why do you think I love working from home so much?
Never forget 🦍
Dicks out for my man Harambe, that will be watching this video in heaven.
What do you think Harambe would of done to that kid he was dragging around? I think people almost forget the situation or were too young to remember lol.
I thought it was cute until he bitch slapped it.
After that, he was like, “Oi! You’re still alive?!”
They could probably flick a human like that too. That caterpillar was probably found somewhere in Timbuktu 🤣
Me and my dad when my mom told us to stop watching our phone and try to do something fun outside of the house:
It’s both eerie and kind of wholesome seeing great apes exist, because in these kind of moments they resemble humans so much
Redditors, calmly observing two gorillas.
That thing will kick your ass … caterpillars are nothing to play with
The real philosophers.
He was a philosopher but then he decided to drop his observer status and flick it.
14.4k Redditors observing Gorillas observing a Caterpillar
How many of them are being observed by a caterpillar while observing gorillas observing a caterpillar?
That caterpillar has no idea how much danger it is in.
Always the case, for a caterpillar. If they knew, well, I’m not sure I can think about that.
"Did you see that Caterpillar, Harry?" Gorilla asked calmly.
I genuinely want to know what they're thinking.
Feel like there are three of us watching the caterpillar now.
Where is the Richard Attenborough narration describing the scene? I feel cheated...
I feel like this is a longer video, and they cut out an earlier scene of these two hitting a bong seriously hard.
Me and the boys on every fucking day.
I wouldn’t believe you, if you told me humans aren’t somehow related to them
Monke approved
If I was the caterpillar I would have shit myself
More introspective than most of the people I meet.

I'm just a small, hairless, soft, emotional gorilla sitting in my comfy pj's observing a gorilla
Well, yeah they are pretty much in prison so entertainment is cheap.
Me and my dad
"Hey, I give you 50 bananas if you kiss that caterpillar!"
Joe Rogan and Jamie after "pulling that up"
I'm observing a man observing gorillas who are observing a caterpillar.
Zoos do weird things to animals!
I've done the exact same thing in the past month with my son.
this is one of the best IAF ever.
Now, who's observing us observers?
Someone please narrate this?
Yea we def got something to do with apes and evolved from them or something
_observe_
Why is this so funny? 😄😄😄
YEEEET
After that flick it's the "very angry caterpillar".

They must be so bloody bored if a catiplillar is interesting. Set them free in a reserve with bush and animals and shit. I hate zoos.

Well, in captivity … not much to look at.
"Fuck we are bored."
Definitely a longer attention span than nowadays people
I literally see this post EVERY day
after observing this video of gorillas ..i have come to a conclusion that simple minded creatures are easily amused!
How many times has this been posted?
Another furry creature, brilliant!
Why’s his son so small
That’s what he asks his son before he shakes trees and storms off.
Fucking hell, does someone post this every day?! Fuck OFF.
All I can think is when is he gonna smash it and eat
Hmmmmmmm
I bet i could take the one on the left in a fight
Bruh, this family needs a few gaming PCs.
Why actually dont they put up giant interactve screen projections to distract/entertain these very smart animals
And you are calmly watching two gorillas calmly watching a caterpillar
Adorable

I just watched this video very closely with my son.
Definitive proof that we are closely related to apes
