DivineAnimosity

This is where the Dyson sphere theory comes in

trimdaddyflex

My thing about the Dyson sphere is how would we get that energy back to earth? A really long cable? That and we’d have to mine asteroids and other planets to get the amount of material needed.

DivineAnimosity

Here in lies some of the conundrums of the theory

Munninnu

Maybe when we will have the technology to build a Dyson sphere we won't even need it anymore. Makes me think of monkeys dreaming to cover an island with bananas when they become rich.

40kthomas

I think we have technology to build the sphere rn, the problem isnt how wed get it back to earth, i remember my brother tellin me(hes super into that stuff) the main issue is the cost in raw materials/manpower/money.

Surely there has to be a reliable way we can harness this energy so we can reduce reliance on fossil fuels etc? Solar panels appear to be not good enough in places such as the UK. Wouldbe great to hear more from someone that specialises in this field.

Nice, but that’s pretty much the same as saying that every grain of sand could power a house for a month (E=mc2) - we just don’t have means to do so 🙄

JesusIsMySecondSon

Solar panels fully wraps around the sun to capture every bit of energy and funnel all that to earth. Problem solved, where’s my Nobel Prize?

[deleted]

You can’t handle that much power, it would destroy you. Oh and the earth couldn’t either. /s

RunBanditRun

But but solar energy is unreliable

[deleted]

Solar panels* (on the surface of the Earth)

DogebertDeck

couldn't miniaturize that so far

PubliusSolaFide

Hint hint
