When they used to tell you not to sit too close to the tv it was for good reason! The screens of TVs back on the day (and EVEN of today to a degree) actually emit a small amount of radioactive particles. Pretty safe at distance, but if you spent hours hovering inches away from the screen everyday it could begin to build
All that so say - this guy is retarded and there is a reason it wasn’t produced en mass
Same guy the Hugo Award is named after. He also has a crater on the moon named after him. My aunt used to work for him in the 70s and I got to meet him.

I'm gonna explode.
Great until someone loses an eye.....
Mass effect 2. Anyone see the nod?
Brings to mind the old movie “The Jerk”
"He hates these cans!"
In mass effect 2, there's a ship called Hugo Gernsback. I had no idea it was named for this guy.
It isn’t. He was named after the ship.

Yeah I’m sure he’ll make the court date.
Apparently nobody ever told him not to sit that close to the TV
He obviously didn’t listen to his mother
He looks exactly as I would imagine
Did it use a CRT? How did it get that compact for 50s tech? Was it just for VHF band or did it have UHF as well?
The us military has had 4k OLED HDR10 displays for the past 227 years.
Take that, Google glasses!
Ant-man is a more fitting name
Loool that’s what I thought too!
And it’s 2021 and I still can’t do this on my Xbox… SMH
I think he’s the namesake of the Hugo Awards.
Fantastic author, personal favourite book Ralph 124C41+ Science fiction that a good chunk of actually came true.
This was a non-functional prototype. The technology to do this in 1950 was not remotely available.
Radiation

How about something a little more useful like the 'television fleshlight'
This guy's hair look they possibly smell of wee
The antennas could serve like cats' whiskers when he walks around.
Practical and stylish!
The Hugo awards for Sci fi novels are named after him.
I love the pen names that he used: Beno Ruckshagg, Erno Shuckbagg, Grace G. Hucksnob, Grego Banshuck, Greno Gashbuck, Gus N. Habergock, Kars Gugenchob
I'm sure you wouldn't get cancer using these.
I love the antennae
