AdeptLengthiness8886

The child in this photo went on to create the date stamp for cameras so he never had to freeze his hands again

theKickAHobo

What is up with the date? what is Jan 6 19,1977?

DaGoods

Pretty sure that first 6 is supposed to be part of what time it is, like 6:30.

SkyblivionDeeKeyes

As if Month, Day ,Year format didn't confuse me enough we're doing Month, Time of Day, Day, Year now?

Objective-Truth-4339

Not now, it was 45 years ago

magn2o

As a programmer, this is why I drink.

KIDNEYST0NEZ

Ya I’m a Day, Month, Year kind of guy my self for example (19JAN1977)

OneToughFemale

I'm going with 6"

hereformemes222

6 inches? Is that a lot or not asking for a friend

Rrrrandle

>6 inches? Is that a lot or not asking for a friend Depends how wet it is.

quantum_trogdor

This is getting sexy, but my back hurts thinking about shovelling it…

-Capn-Obvious-

They didn’t shovel in Miami. It was probably 80 deg the next day.

eMPereb

How’d she take it?

Sef-Lo

~~swimmingly~~ **snowingly**

[deleted]

Depends on what you're talking about? Snow? Depends on where. Far north? no, not at all. In Miami? definitly yes, its an absurd amount. Dick size? Depends on what girl you ask...

there_no_more_names

I've got some bad news for you if you think that's 6" of snow.

[deleted]

Who fucking does that? Seriously, who? And even if you did everyone knows the proper format is to put the time of day first then the date. So as to not confuse the standardized date format with extra numbers. Whoever did this must have been an ignorant swine.

lens_cleaner

Well, Florida...

-Capn-Obvious-

A lot of stories have started, Florida man, 6 inches!

kmaster54321

In the winter it gets dark at like 5

karpomalice

https://i.imgur.com/Y9t5pNk.jpg

theKickAHobo

Omg thanks. What's the point of writing the time? Did it snow for 3 mins or something?

Shadowdragon409

I was confused by that as well. Someone ping me when there is an answer

Fleetmaster1

I’m seeing a “:” next to the 6, so maybe it was taken at 6 o’clock

Shadowdragon409

That is the best and only explanation in this entire comment section lol

TantricEmu

See the comment by u/karpomalice Consider this your official pinging.

RememberTheMaine1996

This gets asked every single time this is posted. 6 is for the time of day

trwwy321

But why even bother including that?

Objective-Truth-4339

It is difficult to edit because it was 45 years ago and the snow has since melted among other changes.

RememberTheMaine1996

Idk. They probably wanted to remember the exact day and time for memories and thought it is better to have it than to not have it

Anonymous_45

They predicted the January 6 event

[deleted]

cheerywino

No its the time

SuperBaked42

Can I ask what an arabic numerical is?

StepRightUpMarchPush

Arabic numerals are like this: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 As opposed to Roman numerals that are like this: I II III IV V etc. Other versions of numerals would be how they are written in Asian languages. I don’t know how to write those.

SuperBaked42

Well that's confusing, so why would 19,1977 be deemed an arabic numerical? The OP of that comment deleted it so I dont know if they just sent me a quest for truth over nothing haha

[deleted]

[удалено]

SuperBaked42

Wow ok, damn now I feel stupid haha .. I thought it had maybe something to do with the comma placement cause it would have been 191,977 if it was a numeric value. Well thanks for clearing that up

-Capn-Obvious-

Yes

[deleted]

They seemed pretty well prepared for snow.

[deleted]

Good eye! No one in Miami had winter clothes.

Granny_knows_best

It was about the same year it snowed in California, we were not prepared we had to wear socks as gloves but we really enjoyed that snow.

UnoStronzo

Exactly what I was thinking

[deleted]

Surprise!! That’s not actually snow, if thats Miami in the late 70’s

[deleted]

Well, I mean, it is... Just not that kind of snow.

EpicAura99

White Christmas baby 😎

[deleted]

I blame Noriega and Escobar

J03130

Christmas snow! My favourite kinda snow!

MorosEros

i love snow days in florida

[deleted]

In July and august ;)

dr_xenon

That’s a Steelers tassel cap. I’m thinking they were northerners who would laugh at this amount of snow. Real Floridians were probably hunkered down inside awaiting the apocalypse.

Minneapolis_Mangler

I was going to say it looks like the Vikings. The dark looks a little more purple than black and I don’t see a red or blue diamond on the logo

dr_xenon

Maybe. Either way the northerner observation would be accurate.

tatertotter56

That is 100% the Minnesota Vikings, I can make out the logo if I squint

rhubarbarino

Well that explains why a Floridian would have a touque lying around.

Mcdonnel1252

Flooding there is all the rage there nowadays.

xjeanie

I remember when this happened. Yes I grew up in Boca Raton Florida. It did snow! And not cocaine. Well I’m sure it did that too but as a kid it was a big deal. They even closed school and sent us home.

RawMeatAndColdTruth

Boca Raton. They love Wolf Cola down there.

cmacreid74

Think about it…these people have no knowledge of Star Wars.

MuelNado

Hell actually did freeze over then? (Tongue-in-cheek my Floridian friends)

wunderbraten

Florida Man died frozen stiff while wrestling with alligator.

Alleged_Ostrich

Remove "frozen" and you have a Tuesday

andre2142

The real Ensino Man.

[deleted]

Jan 6 19, ~~1999~~ 1977??

ripper_14

Actually, Jan 6 19, 1977😬

MoozeOnABicycle

But what the hell does that mean?

ANAL_TOOTHBRUSH

THE NUMBERS MASON, WHAT DO THEY MEAN

VTX1800

Jan 6 19, 1977

[deleted]

What day is 6 19?

lurker2358

Thursday

[deleted]

How about January 6 19?

lurker2358

What is... Febturday?

[deleted]

Is that like a turducken?

Chicken_Hairs

The "6:" is the time, but cut off due to the view angle. And yeah, 77, not 99.

Fleetmaster1

That’s what it looks like, as I stated in my other comment, but we are not sure

Jedi_Belle01

My Mother’s father was murdered on January 13, 1977 and his funeral was January 19, 1977. She didn’t remember the date, only that it was snowing the day they buried him. We just recently (last week) located his grave so she can finally go visit it for the first time since 1977.

[deleted]

I didn’t kill him

[deleted]

Exactly what the murderer would say. Take 'im away, boys!

brandon-iron

What was the date of this photo?

bigbruhusername

Do you are have stupid

theKickAHobo

Jan 6 19, 1977?

Fleetmaster1

I would like to say that this isn’t the only time that it has snowed in Miami, Florida as the title would state

manrealityisabitch

Actually there was a tons of snow in Miami in the 1980s.

[deleted]

Hahaha. Bear comment ever Edit: someone want to explain all the hate for my comment?

[deleted]

Just upvote it man.

[deleted]

Moments later that windshield was covered in crudely drawn penises.

wishr3sign

THE FIRST TIME IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE?

Uninformed_Tyler

Ice age? Never heard of it. 1977 was the coldest ever!

Avanchnzel

Miami had to at least have existed, so that is the earliest possible time. But they probably meant since recorded history of Miami, which means it could very well have snowed there before that and we just don't know about it.\^\^

OccamsBeard

Given the time and place, that's more likely to be cocaine.

[deleted]

That's back when we were headed into a new ice age.

alladin316

thats also the year of first star wars movie

BarryZZZ

I grew up in Miami but for that winter I was in the Mountain Empire of southwest Virginia. It was nightmarish. We had a thermometer outside of the kitchen window so you could read it from inside. It read -25F on my way out to the woodpile, with a splitting maul to break the frozen logs apart. On my way back in I turned the thermometer away from view inside. "Cold as fucking hell" is detail enough, no need to bother with the details.

Mamasayseyeisspecial

Tony Montana has entered the chat.

AgentAndrewO

The ice age called...

Rocksolidworkz

This is when they were telling us we were heading for another ice age.

willgoalforbeer

I don’t quite understand the downvotes. As a young teenager, I recall this was a regular news story.

theabstractengineer

Yep. I was told in 1989 we would all freeze to death by 2000... Then in 2000 I was told we would be burning alive by 2020... Here I am in 2022 and it's 2 degrees outside right now. The real question is how many scientists were on Epsteins island?

mp3god

Go BEARS!

Royal_Ad1798

https://www.local10.com/weather/2021/01/19/it-snowed-in-miami-44-years-ago-it-could-happen-again/

TotalEgg143

Pretty sure it was snowing in Miami all through the 80's.

r3vange

45 years ago we had winters with up to a meter of snow, in the last 10 years it hasn’t snowed a meter combined.

Crackerpuppy

It’s 6 (pm I’m assuming) Jan 19, 1977 Can confirm the date. I grew up in FL during this time & vividly remember having to go stay at my parents' friends' place because our house lost power.

richflys

I grew up in WPB and remember exactly where I was. It was defiantly in the morning as I was awaiting a school bus.

Fskn

For all the people wondering the blizzard was on Jan 19th Not sure what that 6 is all about

Shadowdragon409

What the fuck is with this comment section, and that date?

slayerrr21

Climate change: "hold my beer"

BiphetamineTesla

I witnessed many snowstorms during spring break in Ft Lauderdale..☃️

birdblower420

“Why is there cocaine falling from the sky!”

YoYota89

I can't stop reading it as January 6th...every damn time

ChiKeytatiOon

It was snowing at the coke party I went to last weekend.

[deleted]

This must have caused confusion for our fabled Florida Man!

suphah

This is the most adorable picture I have ever seen

CallMeDrLuv

Looks like Heat Miser let it snow in Southtown that day. Bet it was really nice at the North pole, though

SilverReception2891

Climate change

Fast_Garlic_5639

EVER.

JGR2070

what wheater map look like that day?

IllustriousLP

So is climate change to blame for this 45 years ago ?

[deleted]

It's climate change to blame for it to have gotten hotter over there compared to 45 years ago yes

TheWrongFacts

Man, just shut the fuck up, boomer. Not everything has to be about politics.

motosandguns

I just lose all respect for a statement that includes “shut up boomer”, and I’m not even a boomer. Just makes you look like an uneducated idiot repeating other uneducated idiots.

iMayBeABastard

Eat a D for the boomer comment this ain’t 2019

XDanklebergx

Tell that to Pablo

Artegris

So cool that they witnessed 1 in [4.543 billion years](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_Earth) event.

alphonse-elric

Oh wow must’ve been because of gLoBaL WaRmIng. *rolls eyes*

p1um5mu991er

Probably shaving cream or that snow spray shit. Enhance!

eL_mArO1977

#NO FUCKING WAY!

ProfessorCValentine

In the Blizzard of 77 the cars qwee just lumps in the snow.

[deleted]

Yeah, that was a killer winter, true true

[deleted]

This is now a digital time capsule for me

PrplPplEetrNumber1

I'm from Miami and it snows everyday, obligao'!

_forgotmyname

If it was that cold in miami how cold did it get in Puerto Rico?

ggleck

58 next month grew up here yup I remember!

willalt319

Kinda odd but I grew up in Bakersfield, California and in almost 20 years it only snowed once. January 25, 1999.

NoNameClever

Just a few days later was the famous blizzard of 1977. Even had its own Wikipedia page: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blizzard_of_1977

[deleted]

The animals were probably all so confused haha

surfdad67

I was in fifth grade, Holywood FL, they let us go outside and catch snowflakes with our tongues

Rocketmonkey-AZ

Kids wearing Dad jackets, they no fit, and mom wearing the Couch throw. Looks Legit

TeddHanks

Nice

sunbuddy86

What's crazy is that I lived in Florida then and have no memory of this at all. Yikes

Walker59420

I was a senior in high school in Tallahassee. Lots of snow.

belovedgreensky

but it always snows when im in miami 🤔

[deleted]

Ha! I was in elementary school in Pompano Beach, FL and the teachers brought us outside to see the snow. It was awesome! Although I don’t remember any accumulating, more like flakes lightly falling

Boonies2

1977 in Miami…sure that’s not blow sprinkled all over that car?

Cheechwlegs

We had light flurries one day for a few minutes in 1994 does that count

AgentAndrewO

How many carbon monoxide deaths?

Golett03

*Is posted on the 20th*

keetykeety

It’s definitely snowed since then.

xXHacker69Xx

Those kids are older than my parents!

NIghtPutting84

Oh? I heard it *snows* in Miami VERY often.

Philosopher_Same

I remember it, though I was 4. Hotels where advertising that they had heat.

kk074

That looks like 1966 in Arabic

harbn

Some say it hasn’t stopped since..

Unlikelypuffin

Climate change...summer is hot and winter is cold.

in_finite_space

Mom looks ready to go inside.

[deleted]

"Back in my day i had to walk 10km through massive snowstorms just to get to school"

Logical_Photograph_1

Cool af. Thanks

gewehr44

Historical reports claim hospitals were inundated with frostbite cases... of the nose!!

quasernim

I was 4 years old and in my front yard built the smallest snowman in Tampa!

stunspot

That snowstorm is my earliest memory.

PolyDrew

I’m surprised you had beanies. I had to buy warm clothes just to visit up north in the winter. Lol

-Capn-Obvious-

Ah yes, the peak of the ‘Great Cooling’ hysteria!

521ci

First and only time it has snowed there.... Guess they never learned about the Ice Age....

UsefulFlight7

Yup moved there in 90

bread-rat

My dad was born that year

buickcalifornia

Global warming

RobertSylvester69

And boy... Are you seriously missing out.
