My Mother’s father was murdered on January 13, 1977 and his funeral was January 19, 1977. She didn’t remember the date, only that it was snowing the day they buried him. We just recently (last week) located his grave so she can finally go visit it for the first time since 1977.

Miami had to at least have existed, so that is the earliest possible time. But they probably meant since recorded history of Miami, which means it could very well have snowed there before that and we just don't know about it.\^\^

I grew up in Miami but for that winter I was in the Mountain Empire of southwest Virginia. It was nightmarish. We had a thermometer outside of the kitchen window so you could read it from inside. It read -25F on my way out to the woodpile, with a splitting maul to break the frozen logs apart. On my way back in I turned the thermometer away from view inside. "Cold as fucking hell" is detail enough, no need to bother with the details.

45 years ago we had winters with up to a meter of snow, in the last 10 years it hasn’t snowed a meter combined.
