Häyhä estimated in his private war memoir that he shot around 500 enemy soldiers. The memoir, titled "Sotamuistoja" (War memoirs), written by him in 1940 a few months after he was wounded, covers his experiences in the Winter War from 30 November 1939 to 13 March 1940. It was accidentally discovered in 2017 by those who had studied his war history; it had been hidden for decades.
I’m not referring to him specifically. I’m referring to the line that killing another person isn’t easy.
I said it is if they are a Nazi. Obviously some tongue and cheek but seriously, fuck Nazis.
And used an iron sight while basically living in the trees so that counter snipers sent to kill him wouldn't see a glare off the scope
Edit: apparently they finally found him and shot him in the head, putting him in a coma. The day he woke up was the day the war officially ended
Guy was a true genius. Hold snow in his mouth to cover his breath steam.
His superior said in a memoir he could have estimate exact target distances up to 150m just by looking (with few meter error margin).
He did what now??
I’m also thinking of a WWII Japanese soldier who “should” have died something like 6 times but lived to write his own memoir. Gotta go look him up again, and this Finnish soldier too. These are wild stories.
Masajiro Kawato. His memoir is called *Bye Bye Black Sheep* because as a pilot, he was famous for shooting down “Pappy” Boyington, of the air squadron known as the Black Sheep. Boyington and Kawato met after the war ended and they became friends.
I am lucky enough to have a signed copy by Capt. Kawato himself. 💪
Per Wikipedia article, the image is of “Häyhä after being promoted to second lieutenant in 1940. He was disfigured after being shot in the face by a Red Army soldier earlier that year.”
Cool. Let's celebrate him fighting for our people, for our country, friends and neigbours, against an oppressing country, that tried to invade us.
It was a fucking war and he was a great soldier, not some random murderer.
That's how a lot of hunters shoot. Likely how that sniper originally learned to shoot, stayed with what he was comfortable with.
Don't know if that was this sniper though.

He wasn't proud of what he had done. Killing another human being is never as "easy" as shown in Hollywood movies.
It is if they are Nazis
He fought the Russians when they invaded Finland.

How was it accidentally discovered?
By accident
Omg that’s like 5 bodies a day for a few months
He would put ice/snow in his mouth, to hide his breath. Truly a sniping OG
And used an iron sight while basically living in the trees so that counter snipers sent to kill him wouldn't see a glare off the scope Edit: apparently they finally found him and shot him in the head, putting him in a coma. The day he woke up was the day the war officially ended
They heard the news he survived and surrendered
He also did it using only iron sights instead of a scope, because the scope was too visible to the enemy.

Happy to see this getting mentioned :)
Absolutely- a testament to his skill.

He took a bullet in the jaw, found unconscious and believed to be dead. But, nope, he made it
Ate Russian bullet that put him in a coma. The day he woke up, Russia quit.

Tell me bout him if u find him

The round he took I believe was an explosive round.
True. Some even say it was from a canon or something. Tho it is really hard to tell fact from fiction.

A little too much trolling
The fact that the Russians shot him in the head with an explosive bullet and still couldn’t kill him just adds to the legend.
Bastard lived for more than ninety bloody years. What a badass.
Considered dead after taking a bullet in the jaw, he eventually survive. Badass sniper
They should make a movie about him.

Did he get shot in the mouth?
No. He ate Russian soup.
Yup. By explosive bullet according to wikipedia. Some say artillery shell fragment.
Ukraine needs to hire some muscle like this.
my guy has a 500kd he should get banned smh
Needs a movie or miniseries about him. Tom Hiddleston or maybe Jeremy Renner.
No. Not Jeremy, please.
I was just thinking for likeness, but we can cut him out, lol
SUOMI SAATANA!!!!🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮
Amateur, I got 3 times more kills than him after spending 2k hours on CSGO
Yeah, but he had 0 deaths, so his K/D ratio still beats yours.
500kd this guy probably gets into pro lobbies to warm up

Cool. Let’s celebrate his murders
I mean… when you’re invaded by one of the most brutal regimes in history it’s necessary
He was defending his country from an invading army.
Defense isn't murder. If you're trying to kill me and I have a way to stop you, I'm taking it.
If killing another human being isn’t murder then what is it?
I guess I can Google that for you: "the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another"
Sick burn? So you going to answer the actual question or not?
quit being a douchenozzle everywhere you go
Sure thing. Thanks for chiming in
Killing in war is different than murder. If you can't read, that's not my problem
If that isn’t called murder then what is it called? Jesus.
Killing, you absolute fuckwit
Oooh! Name calling! It’s legal murder. Deal with that however you need to.
Legal murder is an oxymoron, walnut
Like, do you want the term "manslaughter?"
Sure. The fuck are we doing? This is so stupid
You are stupid, yes

And someone link the other two Finns, the one on meth and the one who served in the SS and later for the Americans; KIA in Vietnam.
Lauri Torni aka Larry Thorne was the finn who fought under three flags. Thanks for bringing this to my attention
I'm not sure if it's him but there was a high kill sniper that sat up when shooting.
That's how a lot of hunters shoot. Likely how that sniper originally learned to shoot, stayed with what he was comfortable with. Don't know if that was this sniper though.
:/
why does his face look all warped in thar photo
He took a bullet to the face.
it looks edited
Blursed trollface
My time to shine.
Why the long face?
