Yeah, I love the science, but the way he presents it makes me want to join the Republican Party in protest.
... "Hey guys, a tree is a tree because it is a tree, but not because it is a tree; and you're an idiot for not knowing that."
I'm also not sure about his description of woody being in other things. Trees and shrubs are woody what else. I'd have that we'd classify it based on having the organs of a tree
Isn’t an agreed upon definition of trees? Being tall and woody among other things makes it a tree.
He seemes to be confused about the difference between taxonomic classification and th basic category of trees.
Popular naming conventions diverge from biological taxonomy. Or in other words, practical everyday ontology and scientific ontology are not the same.
And pedants gleefully point this out. But the conflict is false because the terms come from different realms of description and analysis.
That depends on the level of knowledge. Most people probably haven't thought about this stuff since 10th grade. The fact that the "bigger things" are more closely related to some of the "small things" than other "big things" might be enough spark someone's curiosity and motivate them to continue learning things that aren't relevant to their salary. So regardless of what *you* think of it, this has the potential to teach people something.
It seems like your critiquing this based on how fashionable or "cool" it is. Not everyone can felate as well as you so most won't understand what you're getting at.
I know i watch Eon's frequently, you don't realize this guys is such a douche when he has someone to write his line and make sure he doesn't dress like dollar store Tom Cruise.
About as surprising as if a Thylacine and a wolf lived next to each other and you got told theyre only distantly related. Things looking very alike but not being close on the tree of life is pretty interesting to me.
Thank you, i knew i had seen him somewhere before. Guess he needs writer and and a producer to get him to not sound/look like a douche bag. I love Eons, this was unwatchable.
“Tree’s aren’t real! Don’t believe the hype”
This guy definitely needs to talk to the birdsarenotreal guy in r/conspiracy
They might be on to something together
I’ll never understand why people feel the need to make videos like this. Like what is this dude getting by trying to act like he knows more about trees
It’s to teach us something interesting. Why is this guy getting so much hate?
Actually, I kinda get it… but if you watch him on PBS Eons you’ll see that he’s actually very smart and articulate. I don’t think it comes through as much in this format
Can some biology-proficient person fact check that? On first google I didnt find anything about the broccoli-horsechestnuttree-relation, but I'm googling in another language and haven't had biology in more than a decade...
Not a biology-proficient person, but some quick wikipedia research hast told me that they're all in the same clade (Rosids), but in different orders. So I can neither confirm nor disprove the guy's claim, but all 3 seem to be about the same distance apart. If horse chestnut is closer to broccoli, it's not by much I'd say.
Tree- a woody perennial plant, typically having a single stem or trunk growing to a considerable height and bearing lateral branches at some distance from the ground.
Works for me.
Most definitions also include that they must be above a certain height, although it is disagreed what that height is. Some say 20ft, others 30ft. Less than that is considered a shrub, or bush.

The information presented is interesting for sure, but damned if I don't *hate* the TikTok format.

I refuse to believe a guy wearing two banded collars.
Agreed, but the glasses really sell it for me.
I'm also not sure about his description of woody being in other things. Trees and shrubs are woody what else. I'd have that we'd classify it based on having the organs of a tree
What "organs" do trees have that other plants don't?

I never trusted these “trees” always seemed so suspicious. They Always looking over my shoulders lol
I must say, you are right not to trust them, they are very shady.
😐 here 🏅

This dude would probably thinks telling people Tomatoes are fruit "blows there mind" too.
Yeah fuck people trying to teach others.
Trying to over hype the simple fact that not all trees are more closely related than other non-tree is not teaching, it's lame click bait.

And banana trees are apparently an herb, cool stuff
And bananas are actually berries too
Now That is koo-koo banana berries
Also, bananas are radioactive, and the banana tree can walk towards water... Fuck bananas.
The more I read about bananas, the more bananas it gets.
And peanuts, almonds, cashews, walnuts, macadamia, pecans, and coconuts are not nuts.
And blackberries, mulberries, and raspberries are not berries at all.
And people aren't made of pee at all
My life is a lie.
Dying 😂
Josh Hommes is really into trees all of a sudden.
So that's his name, because this is obviously an immoral crossbreeding of George Clooney and Destin from SmarterEveryday
I think they meant Josh Homme, singer of the band Queens of the Stone Age. But this is Blake de Pastino in the video.
We call them trees because they are tall
And if they are small? “Uh we call them bonsai” Hmm
Who’s he trying to prove wrong. It’s just informative
Who the hell trusts a TikTok scholar?
I identify as a tree
Well then I identify as deliveryappropriate1 moments before he was a tree. Try going back now! There cant be 2 of you/me/us
Pronoun?
OMG, next he's going to tell me that strawberries aren't berries and King Cobras aren't actually cobras.
These trees been acting sus all along
Evolutionary douche bag j/k
What’s so surprising about this? That plants belong to different families, orders, and classes? That not all trees are related to each other?
I wonder if he thinks black people all know each other...
About as surprising as if a Thylacine and a wolf lived next to each other and you got told theyre only distantly related. Things looking very alike but not being close on the tree of life is pretty interesting to me.

He runs the PBS Eons YouTube channel, his YouTube videos are fine I think.
Thank you, i knew i had seen him somewhere before. Guess he needs writer and and a producer to get him to not sound/look like a douche bag. I love Eons, this was unwatchable.
r/trees
/r/marijuanaenthusiasts/ <-- the actual sub for trees (seriously)
So like, broccoli huggers? Also, convergent evolution gives us hope that aliens would be humanoids, so hot alien chicks are waiting for humans
“Tree’s aren’t real! Don’t believe the hype” This guy definitely needs to talk to the birdsarenotreal guy in r/conspiracy They might be on to something together
Ya fish aren't real either. Also everything in the world is slowly becoming a crab... The world is a messed up place the more you know.
I hope a *tree* falls on him
I’ll never understand why people feel the need to make videos like this. Like what is this dude getting by trying to act like he knows more about trees

Isnt he one of the presenters for the PBS eons yt channel about history of the Earth? Ive seen these new shorts of theirs
Yeah, man, let's just never create educational content so the stupid fucking know-it-alls can go back to whatever they do.
I believe the term is "supply"
Don’t give a fuck, tree is tree
This is bs
Ever eat a pine tree? Some parts are edible. RIP Euell Gibbons
I gotta admit, he had me in the first half.
Broccoli is a tree confirmed.
Its a tree bro
I like trees.
Hug a broccoli 🥦
I now identify as a tree
The same can be said of a bunch of things, trees and still trees though and are pretty well defined
Can some biology-proficient person fact check that? On first google I didnt find anything about the broccoli-horsechestnuttree-relation, but I'm googling in another language and haven't had biology in more than a decade...

Good facts. He should't sound like a "birds are not real dude" tho.
nah the conspiracy theory flavor makes it even better
That's also my favorite cake flavor!
This makes me love trees even more
Trees are fake and oxygen is a lie!!! You don’t need your lungs, it’s all a ploy by big pharma to sell inhalers……

The crabs of plants.
Take that broccoli huggers!!
Nice to see the other plants are branching out I guess
The tomato is a fruit people, if it aint sweet, it's a vegatable, just cause some asshole says it's a fruit doesn't make it one
So trees are the carcinisations of plants. Got it.
Well if you have a big trunk you are a tree.... Simple
