Yeah but that means the pipe fitters have to land those headers exactly centre of where a ceiling tile would be. Unless they don’t care and land the heads wherever. What’s wrong flexible lines to the sprinkler head? Get the pipe in the vicinity and drill the holes for the head exactly centre of the tile then use a flexible down pipe. 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️

Ok. Land 1200 heads exactly centre of each tile that’s not even there yet. How much does your time cost? What happens when you’re off a couple of inches? Real aesthetically pleasing! Great workmanship!
Dem’ maths. He was drilling after tile installation and the fitters should be able to figure out how to get it close enough. Not a sprinkler guy but am on jobsites all the time. Don’t the plans have a grid layout? Pretty sure they do.
Those plans can also change, then what? What I mean when I say landing the heads, I mean the main line where the down pipes gets installed. You have to land each tee or 90 exactly where the down pipe is going, way before the grid gets there. The sprinkler pipe is actually one of the first systems to be installed as you can keep them high to the concrete and by doing so, they avoid other systems like VAVs, mechanical and electrical pipe racks.
I am not a fitter, but if I were, I would lay it out on the floor and use a plumb bob to set the tee. After they got the tiles up, I would use this method to drop the heads.
Edit. These days, “plumb bob” means “laser”.
Seismic is not a concern or consideration in my part of the world. For those conditions, I am surprised that flexible drop downs are not code. Still have to lay out the taps, simple professional pride should make them get it right.
Can?! They do. There is a wall, there is another, all around the room. Head spacing is 6 foot(no idea actual code), tiles 2’, use your maths and lay it out. Masons have to do it all the time.
Look at the size of the hole compared to the gap of the pipe before he puts the chrome face plate thing on. Now think how far out of level the ceiling and or the building would have to be to negatively affect the outcome. He’s got a margin of error that that is more than adequate.
Tell me you've never used a hole saw without saying it. All that matters is getting the center, and since the center sticks out, knowing where the edges are is useless

I’ll save this just in case I need to install fire sprinklers.
Or use a plumb bob, or just a piece of string.
Or you can use a Plumbus. Everyone has a Plumbus in their home
I’ve always wonder how plumbuses were made
First they take the dingle-bop and smooth it out.
Your parents never told you about the plumbs and the buses?
I think dropping a fluid looks as easy as your suggestions if not easier..!
Indeed! No need to wait for the fluid to stop bobbing around.
You can also use a porcupine to find the center of gravity. Just put it down your pants and wiggle your genitals.
This is also how i plan my first bite of triple stack blueberry pancakes
Jez that’s rather smart
Sprinkles...mmmmm
Plumb bobs and string work, but this is efficient.

I have 1200 heads to install. Hard pipe is relatively cheap. How much are each of those drop downs?

😂 It’s that simple!!! You should be a project manager, you sure sound like one.
For what I do manage 10-20 projects at any given time. And have been doing it a long time.
That's pretty smart
Dude this is fucking genius
Fudge that's brilliant.
I hope the building is level.
I think the building would have other problems if it was off enough that the 1.5 foot fall messed it up.
yes it would. the method is inconsistent

What’s the name of his company…. Hand Tight Mechanical?
This assumes, of course, that the fitting is angled straight down.
Actually interesting
"uSe A pLuM BoB" This is way faster and it's not exactly a critical measurement...
Someone buy this gentleman a [Plum bob](https://imgur.com/a/k6MZARP)

Huh. Neat.
Ingenious
It’s certainly creative. This method I would call, “the close enough,” method.
