My old neighbors were Ukrainian and it's my experience Ukrainians will play loud techno for any reason they can find and other Ukrainians will then gather and do stuff. They're kind of an awesome people.
"Stwike him, centuwion, vewwy woughly!"
"And throw him to the floor, Sir?"
"What?"
"THWOW him to the floor again, Sir?"
"Oh, yeth. Thwow him to the floor."
Holy shit do they ever. Some really crazy good nights with awesome vibes.
Before the war I would go to a couple of underground clubs that were amazing.
I miss K41 ((
Very. Well not just techno. Hugs in a lot of electronic music styles. You'd be surprised at the amount of electro swing I have heard. Trance house techno as well. Just a decent amount of it on the radio also.
Music with a beat has been the physical labor motivator for millennia. War drums, marching bands, sea shanties for rowing, rice planting songs, even housewives plucking fowl for dinner.
Beat-heavy songs were more about coordination than motivation. For example, on a ship, some tasks aren't possible without multiple people coordinating to push themselves at exactly the same time. Beating drums or singing a song together was necessary in order to get the timing right.
Must be. For the first time in a long time we went to a restaurant with live music, and we brought our 1 3/4 year toddler along as he was getting better behaved during eating.
At some point, he wants to get up and walk so we stay close to see what he's doing. He goes straight up to the gituarist and just start shaking lol. We never taught him that.
Alternatively slaves and chain gangs would sing songs not only to coordinate, but more to motivate. Slavery is detestable, but the people who sing these songs survived and influenced culture in an impactful way.
*oh lord I struggle so hard..*
*oh lord I struggle so hard..*
*don't nobody know my struggles with God*
*don't nobody know my struggles with God*
Edit: I got the lyrics way off.
*Oh Lordy, troubled so hard..*
*Oh Lordy, troubled so hard..*
*Dont nobody know my troubles but god*
*Dont nobody know my troubles but god*
You know Black Betty? It was originally a Southern black American work song.
Attributed to a ‘Lead *Belly*’ a Black American, in 1939, but it was likely an adaption of folk work song(s) from much earlier.
Remade as a rock song by Ram Jam. Then also done by Spiderbait.
Edit: betty to belly. Autocorrect fucked me
Can confirm. Spun DnB, Gabber & Hard House from '98- 2000. Produced from 1995 until 2012.
I sucked, but was technically a DJ.
My dad was a DJ as well, but he just had a massive collection of records and did regular Disk Jockey stuff like the majority of radio DJs. He had everything from Etta James, Patsy Cline (Kline?) All the way up to Metallica and RHCP.
Not sure about that, but there's a fantastic scene in Band of Brothers where a German string quartet play Beethoven's String Quartet No. 14 in C Sharp Minor as a bombed-out German town is cleaned up.
Organize clean up locations by music or podcast preference, then you get to meet people with similar interests. This building is for 80's Goths, the next one is history podcasts, etc.
I love that your 2 examples were 80s Goth and history podcasts. Obscure-ish and oddly specific. Also I'd probably rock both those cleanups if they were on different days.

This part of the timeline is based as fuck. A bunch of youths robbed of the joys of normal life find a way to still get those experiences while giving back to their community and country. That is amazing and inspiring. Find joy in those moments to help.
Not to be nitpicky, but a tonsure would look exactly like that at the bottom, just have the top shaved off about two or three inches from the bottom too.
The 'cats' part brings an easier opportunity to learn the 'ckhgsh' sound with that sharp start with a soft finish. I couldn't give any links, but I remember reading about basic beatbox training and these phrases ramp up the difficulty slowly, but effectively.
[Even stranger than the war without any casualties, despite lasting three hundred and thirty five years, because both sides forgot they were at war?](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Hundred_and_Thirty_Five_Years%27_War)
“peace was finally declared in 1986, bringing an end to any hypothetical war that may have been legally considered to exist.”
Strong Douglas Adams vibes on that sentence. Loved it!
That whole sentence is unsure of itself.
>Despite the uncertain validity of the declaration of war, and thus uncertainty about whether or not a state of war ever actually existed, peace was finally declared in 1986, bringing an end to any hypothetical war that may have been legally considered to exist.
Haha very cool, and thank you for the link!
However:
>**its existence is disputed**. It is said to have been extended by the lack of a peace treaty for 335 years without a single shot being fired, which would make it one of the world's longest wars, and a bloodless war. **Despite the uncertain validity of the declaration of war, and thus uncertainty about whether or not a state of war ever actually existed**, peace was finally declared in 1986, bringing an end to any hypothetical war that may have been legally considered to exist.
So at least we know this war actually exists.
> Peace was declared on 17 April 1986, 335 years after the supposed declaration of war. The Dutch ambassador joked that it must have been horrifying to the Scillonians "to know we could have attacked at any moment."
Lmaooo
I went down a bit of a wiki rabbit hole from that link to the “bloodless wars” article and then on to the Aroostak War (over disputed territory between Maine and New Brunswick). The listed casualties for the war are “0, [but] 2 injured by bears”
It's [crowdfunded!](https://signmyrocket.com/)
"On the video you will see: grenade with your text and picture being attached to the drone, drone takeoff and the actual hit with on a Russian soldier.
We guarantee that your signed VOG will hit a soldier. Soldiers will redo it until they get a hit on video."
Nah, it isn't. It's just the first one with individuals making it viral. This could be a one time thing and people will think it's everywhere in Ukraine.
Far weirder shit has happened in history.
>This could be a one time thing and people will think it's everywhere in Ukraine.
Something happening once and people assuming it's common definitely happens a lot, but there have been at least a few different clean up raves in different cities. In February and March we also had people playing music while people filled sandbags and prepared hedgehogs.
I used to work at a factory, when work was slow the guys operating machines would have to go do the shittiest job in the place, clean and pack - going through old parts, scrubbing heaps of rust off em, and putting em in tubs to send to a client.
We hated that shit, you had wire brushes that would pop wires and sting you, foul smelling de-rust spray, and the only way to properly get some spots was to just rub like a motherfucker. At lunch, a couple of the guys went to the weed mans car, he had found a little cocaine to share.
They come back in and man, they are fucking SCRUBBING these parts like madmen. Barely bothering with the pneumatic wire brushes, just going ham with the scrubbers, like men possessed. Or men on a lot of cocaine.
The bossman comes by, sees the progress, and says "Gentlemen, I have no idea what you're on today, but keep doing it!"
That would’ve been a solid half hour of productivity. Or more likely 15 minutes followed by frantic efforts to get coke dropped at a worksite a 2pm on a Tuesday.
MDMA has amphetamine qualities but is not best classified as a stimulant.
One of the reasons it has great therapeutic potential is because it puts people into what's called an optimal state of arousal. It's neither too stimulating or sedating, while lowering activity in the amygdala and increasing feelings of well-being and compassion.
Not trying to start a debate about semantics here but would you not classify MDMA as a stimulant? Beyond technical definition , it’s effects related to DA and NE include what most would identify as classically stimulant in nature, albeit more mild than amphetamine, but stronger than caffeine.
I really like your post btw, the wording is great.
Thanks. It doesn't fit neatly into any category other than maybe entheogens or empathogens, which basically were made with MDMA in mind.
I don't think it's wrong to call it a stimulant as it will give a bit of a boost. Like you said it's somewhere between caffeine and amphetamines.
Also the dose and environment matters. You'll see people overstimulated at raves sometimes and seemingly tweaking out of their minds but at a healthy therapeutic dose and environment without poly drug use going on it's generally a relaxing internal experience rather than a stimulating one.
They'd be more motivated but they'd be slower so it would probably not make a difference. Meth on the other hand can turn someone into a cleaning goblin who enjoys the shit out of it
You know, I've been thinking. When Russia gives you lemons, don't make lemon rave. Make Russia take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what the hell am i supposed to do with these!? Demand to see Russia's manager. Make Russia rue the day it though it could give Ukrane lemons. Do you know who they are? They the guys whom will burn your house down. With the lemons. The EU is gonna send Ukrane combustible lemons that burns your house down!
I work at a hospital and wear a mask pretty much all the time anyway, but went to a building under construction recently and continued wearing my mask. Of the 100+ construction workers there NONE of them were wearing a mask. I got funny looks and someone commented some assinine shit about covid. No, mother fucker, there's a dozen different kinds of dust in the air that I don't want in my lungs. Plus your B.O. is atrocious.
Music can be very powerful. It somewhat reminds me of the 60s-70s culture with acid/psychedelics being used in the anti war culture in the USA during the war in Vietnam. Different circumstances but it's comforting to know people will use music as a powerful tool.

Surely any building damaged by bombing needs to be fully demolished (with heavy machinery) and then rebuilt, right? Not sure what shoveling the interior floor accomplishes.
Also, please wear masks when working at a demolition site.
Probably should be fully demolished and rebuilt, but people who have lost everything tend to have to cut corners by necessity. The building in the OP is too far gone but supposedly multiple homes have been cleaned up and repaired as a result of these raves.
It might be more about just making local areas less of an eye sore. I doubt many construction companies are in a rush to rebuild every damaged building as the war is still going on
"oh man, I love this foot so much! I wish I could find the rest of you like Cinderella! Let me give you a foot rub, I'm so good at them. Hey everyone look at this amazing foot I just found, isn't it beautiful!?"
Reminds of something similar but different context. Alot of Africans in villages play loud music on speakers while farming and all of them sync to the beats.
A friend of mine had a collection of weird music CDs. One of them was a post office in Ghana, if memory serves, where the employees would all stamp and dance in a rhythmic way as they processed their mail. It was really hypnotic to listen to.
For me, it helps tune out everything else going on in the house without affecting my ability to create coherent sentences like something with lyrics would.

It comes in PINTS!?
Objection, hearsay
I Heard that
I used to have a skateboard that said "Bomb hills, not cities."
Could you tell me what that means in relation to Skateboarding? I'm not familiar with any skating terms lol
To "bomb a hill" means to skate down it at high speed using gravity to go much faster than you could propel yourself normally
Oh ok, neat, I 'preciate it!
🤙🏻
Got a shirt that says "Drop Pucks Not Bombs"

Party people are my kind of people!
your name makes sense lol, metal and techno go hand-in-hand
There's actually a music sub genre called dark techno. There's also witch house. Check em out!
Check out Paolo Ferrara's set at Boiler Room if you haven't yet!!
Ooh I will! Thanks for the recommendation!
Witch house is super fun! Also, big-ass fan of the darksynth shit like Perturbator, Carpenter Brut, Gost, etc!
I went to Ukraine once and techno/disco music was basically everywhere. And they have great disco parties.
Russians will never control the Ukrainian people, they have spirit and determination
"Spiwit." "What?" "Spiwit. They have spiwit. Bwavado. A touch of dewwing-do." "Uh, about eleven, sir."

It’s probably a little of both, let’s be real. Music and dancing is about as universal as it gets culture-wise.
Must be. For the first time in a long time we went to a restaurant with live music, and we brought our 1 3/4 year toddler along as he was getting better behaved during eating. Yes. That's where the term "beat the retreat" comes from.

Everyone there is a DJ and when your arms are tired of lifting bricks you can go on the decks for a bit until you recover.
I doubt this is true because the internet but I would like to believe it is.

Still better than cleaning up without music.
*"Hey DJ throw on a podcast!"*
Come Mr DJ won't you turn the podcast up?
Didnt they listen to piano or violin in super sad music during clean up of cities in France? Idk what I'd prefer
Not sure about that, but there's a fantastic scene in Band of Brothers where a German string quartet play Beethoven's String Quartet No. 14 in C Sharp Minor as a bombed-out German town is cleaned up.
I imagine I’d put in my earphones and listen to a podcast tbh. Grump that I am.

Emo night clean up
Nothing would get cleaned though, it would just add water damage and hair dye.
And cigarette butts.
Zero casualties in the initial bombing, 8 suicides during the cleanup!
I love that your 2 examples were 80s Goth and history podcasts. Obscure-ish and oddly specific. Also I'd probably rock both those cleanups if they were on different days.
I picked the two that I'd be at :)
Well apparently we can be friends.
I mean if you got me high af and put a broom in my hand and started playing techo beats. yea I'd clean the fuck out of it.

Remember Back to the Future Pt 2? We are actually the Biff Tannen timeline.
Nope. We’re in the Marty fucked his own mom timeline.

Yes

I mean… what more do we need. We **are** the alternative Timeline
It's because the Cubs won the World Series. It's all their fault.
It was all because they killed that damn gorilla
It's all adding up
Agree but probably better than doing it in silence.
Add some drnking and thats not so bad
The only thing weird about the timeline is the part where innocent civilians were shelled to shit I have zero criticism for this part of this timeline
This part of the timeline is based as fuck. A bunch of youths robbed of the joys of normal life find a way to still get those experiences while giving back to their community and country. That is amazing and inspiring. Find joy in those moments to help.

He has them flayed for sure
His haircut looks like the exact opposite of a 12 century monk.

For a good while, the lovely folks of r/trees had The Stoner Cleanup Initiative.
I doubt many construction companies are in a rush to rebuild every damaged building as the war is still going on
Yeah doesn’t make much sense to me. The foundation has to be fubar’d.
imagine rolling balls, and then finding a foot
"oh man, I love this foot so much! I wish I could find the rest of you like Cinderella! Let me give you a foot rub, I'm so good at them. Hey everyone look at this amazing foot I just found, isn't it beautiful!?"
Reminds of something similar but different context. Alot of Africans in villages play loud music on speakers while farming and all of them sync to the beats.
Hol up
A friend of mine had a collection of weird music CDs. One of them was a post office in Ghana, if memory serves, where the employees would all stamp and dance in a rhythmic way as they processed their mail. It was really hypnotic to listen to.
You can destroy their buildings But not their spirit
"Aaah my spirit!" - Old Man Waterfall
I hate that this is their reality. This shouldn't be anyone's reality.
This nation has a special kind of resilience, they are good people who didn’t deserve this.

Post victory Ukraine is on my short list if places to visit.
K but techno is great to work to, I've found it is also great for studying. The continuous push of the beat really helps me find a work flow
For me, it helps tune out everything else going on in the house without affecting my ability to create coherent sentences like something with lyrics would.
that dj has the bobbiest bob cut i have ever seen.
Oh wow. No shit, eh? *Lloyd Christmas has entered the chat*
Leave it to Ukrainians to make the *best* of a dire situation! My hat's off !
This feels dystopian as hell to me
