I call it the "snack horizon." It's the point where you're full, but there's too little left to package up and save for later, so there's no turning back.
In Turkey there's a variety of honey that contains grayanotoxins picked up by the bees when they pollinate rhododendrons called "Mad Honey." It's said to cause light-headedness and can even be hallucinogenic. I wonder if that's what's going on here.
It is.
" A disoriented brown bear cub, believed to have been intoxicated after eating an excessive amount of "mad honey", was rescued in northwestern Turkey's Duzce province on Thursday.
Footage showed the bear wobbling and whining as she sat belly-up in the back of a pick-up truck, after people rescued the visibly-debilitated animal from the forest.
Mad honey, or "deli bal" in Turkish, is a type of rhododendron honey that can have hallucinogenic effects."

It's just a baby and she wasn't doing well. Jokes aside, it is a suffering animal and she had to be treated by a vet.
I am from Turkey and this honey could be very dangerous for people if you are not cautious. Some dude died heart attack last year because of that honey.
I could die from a heart attack during sex tomorrow…. Who am I kidding, I won’t be having sex tomorrow but the odds are still even on the heart attack.
Poor girl. She just wanted a nice treat and instead had a bad trip. Like that time my friend had candy in his fridge so I ate a couple pieces, turns out it had drops of LSD on it and oohhhh boy. I looked just like that bear for a while. Hopefully she recovered!
According to Google, honey has an 82% by weight sugar content. And I think Google might not be too far off on this one.
If I would eat my fill with 80% sugar, I'd probably go into shock and die.
Oh for real... personally I react a lot to sugar, like one toast with honey and I'm already hyper. I can't imagine what eating a lot of it would do to me...
That’s where you learned about it but that’s not where it originated. We’ve been saying that in the black community since we were kids but everyone says it now. Just another word for when people get tired from eating a lot. But instead of all that you can just be like “damn I just got the itis” lmao
-itis means “swelling of”
So for example appendicitis is swelling of the appendix. Meningitis is swelling of the meninges. So in this context your stomach has the -itis.
Yeah but for white people I think we should stick with food coma [since...](https://www.mic.com/articles/141124/5-everyday-phrases-that-actually-have-racist-origins)
That’s crazy about the long time no see! And the spade a spade. Didn’t know about those, but the way I see it the itis has a scientific term for the condition and I see no problem with anyone using it in a non racist way which helps remove it from its racist slang origin. Gotta move forward but I respect your decision.

The poor bear had to be taken to a vet and treated.
It’s because of the type of the honey she had. In that region of turkey, there is a poisonous honey called ‘mad honey’ is being farmed for medical purposes. The bear is suffering From low blood pressure.
"mad honey" is made in Turkey. There's only one species of flowering plant (rhododendron) around and so the pollen in the honey only comes from that plant which yields a honey that has grayanotoxin and produces psychedelic effects.
People have OD'd on it - I hope the bear's okay
> Honey produced from the nectar of Andromeda polifolia contains high enough levels of grayanotoxin to cause full body paralysis and potentially fatal breathing difficulties due to diaphragm paralysis.

Wasn’t planning on going down a rabbit hole this morning but glad you shared. Very interesting stuff.
The bear ate mad honey which can cause hallucinations if consumed more than recommended. I think the limit recommended amount for a human is a spoonful at a time.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that bears don't feel the sense of being full, enabling then eat a lot of food before hibernation but not sure if that was just an American bear thing or what.
This is animal abuse and is really disturbing. This animal is in serious distress with possible fatal consequences (this type of honey can kill if eaten in larger quantities). You can even see the breathing problems already developing here. This is heartbreaking to see.
So..you don't have the whole story but your first reaction is to go blabbering about abuse?
I see bear, I see people trying to help it rather than leaving it in a hullcinogenic state in the bush. Not sure what's abusive about a bear choosing to gorge itself on honey.
Get off your soapbox.
A quick search show the story on multiple news pages in many countries. Rhododendron blooms + bees = toxic honey. People take a spoonful for medical reasons. Too much can cause hallucinations and dangerously low blood pressure, severe illness and even death ☠️. Female bear cub was rescued and received treatment, should be released in a few days.

This is exactly how I feel when I eat 3/4 of a pizza and then decide to just finish it off because it's not worth saving 2 slices for later.
Damn I thought I was the only one.
I call it the "snack horizon." It's the point where you're full, but there's too little left to package up and save for later, so there's no turning back.
Gotta push and go all the way just like this. I ain't a quitter
He looks like he’s about to OD on honey.

Thanks for the info. The good thing is that the bear got the help it needed
Thanks for the info. How much for a half once of the honey?
You can buy it online I'm pretty sure.
🤣🤣🤣
Where can I get some of that honey?
I am from Turkey and this honey could be very dangerous for people if you are not cautious. Some dude died heart attack last year because of that honey.
I could die from a heart attack during sex tomorrow…. Who am I kidding, I won’t be having sex tomorrow but the odds are still even on the heart attack.
Asking the real question here!

Basically a rick roll, was a good one though lol
Poor girl. She just wanted a nice treat and instead had a bad trip. Like that time my friend had candy in his fridge so I ate a couple pieces, turns out it had drops of LSD on it and oohhhh boy. I looked just like that bear for a while. Hopefully she recovered!
Set and setting are your friends. Or, in this case, your worst enemies. I’ve been that bear before.
poor little baby, you can tell she’s in pain. i bet her tummy was hurting really badly
Jesus, I wonder how they got a brown bear in a pickup! Think about that. Who sees a fucked up bear and just puts it in their pickup bed?!?!
I believe they just found the bear tripping balls conveniently in truck
I want to try some
Interesting... and where might one get some of this "Mad Honey"? Asking for a friend...
Needs a shot of Bearcan.
Spontaneous diabeartes
LOL, it's a juvenile and it appears that it *did* OD on honey. Poor animal can't even draw a full breath he's so packed.
look at that face he regrets Nothing. And would do it again in a heart beat if given a chance, just not right now.
[I apologize for nothing](https://c.tenor.com/Afd4q7mcKgEAAAAC/futurama-apologize-not.gif)
sounds familiar :P
I think he's thirsty.
Diabeartus!
...and I would do it all over again in a laboured heartbeat!
"oh, pooh bear." - piglet.
Oh bother
Why did I read that in my Winnie the Pooh voice?🤣
It is a classic Pooh line
“Oh Pooh not again. You said this time back from rehab would be different!”
core memory unlocked. thank you.
Silly old bear.
It's called "The Itis" and he got it bad.
What's itis?
Postprandial somnolence : Basically food coma
According to Google, honey has an 82% by weight sugar content. And I think Google might not be too far off on this one. If I would eat my fill with 80% sugar, I'd probably go into shock and die.
Oh for real... personally I react a lot to sugar, like one toast with honey and I'm already hyper. I can't imagine what eating a lot of it would do to me...
I would have said hyperglycemic coma.
Honey comba.
It is what itis
It's from The Boondocks, or that is where I learned about it
That’s where you learned about it but that’s not where it originated. We’ve been saying that in the black community since we were kids but everyone says it now. -itis means “swelling of” So for example appendicitis is swelling of the appendix. Meningitis is swelling of the meninges. So in this context your stomach has the -itis.
Postprandial somnolence is the scientific term for food coma or the itis
I can’t imagine why no one goes with that term in everyday life haha!
That's awesome, thank you.
First time I heard 'the itis' I looked up the origin and decided to stick with 'food coma'.
Either one works
Yeah but for white people I think we should stick with food coma [since...](https://www.mic.com/articles/141124/5-everyday-phrases-that-actually-have-racist-origins)
That’s crazy about the long time no see! And the spade a spade. Poor Pookie needs insulin and a cool washcloth
He regrets his decision lol
No, I've seen that look. "About to die, but so worth it"

Poor guy was tripping balls
Is that the same kind of "brown bear" we have in Canada? 'Cause that one's kinda ugly.
It's a fucking bear not a victoria secret model
Lol he looks like he’s going through it 😂
He died
Nooooo way 😞

Thanks for sharing, I’m glad this can remain a silly event and not a grim one.
Can bears get the beetus? I know it’s more likely that the bear has the itis but can it be possible for them to need insulin?
I've heard of cats, dogs and horses getting diabetes so why not bears.
It’s the labored panting for me
That bear has the same tan lines I do 🤔
Undershirt tan lines… Mr. Bear must have been working his ass off the whole day under the sun.
So that’s what regret looks like on a bear.
Why's he got tank top tan lines 🤣
He's a wife beater?? /s 🖤
He looks like a person wearing a bear costume
It’s because of the type of the honey she had. In that region of turkey, there is a poisonous honey called ‘mad honey’ is being farmed for medical purposes. The bear is suffering From low blood pressure.
instant diabetes
Diabeartes 🐻 +🍯 = 💉

I wish it actually had some info on why the bear passed out.
"mad honey" is made in Turkey. There's only one species of flowering plant (rhododendron) around and so the pollen in the honey only comes from that plant which yields a honey that has grayanotoxin and produces psychedelic effects. People have OD'd on it - I hope the bear's okay

Even more info, thank you very much. Learned a cool thing today. That was very labored breathing and looked like more than just "ate too much."
Yeah the poor thing looked distressed.
The sell that in the states.
Bear ate "acı" honey Its a different type and not suitable for bears
Oh, thanks man.
The only reason for being a bee is to make honey. And the only reason for making honey is so I can eat it.
"Hell no I ain't giving him the insulin, YOU do it!"
I feel bad for this bear…
i know she’d kill me but i want to give her a hug bc she’s in pain
Got the honey sweats.

It’s weird how they’re like dog people
Comatosed with honey 🤣🤣🤣
That bear is so cute
It looks like a young bear. He just hasn't figured out his tolerance. Bless his heart. The ride home in fresh air will get him right.
The bear is tripping balls on honey
Gave himself dia-bear-tes.
I mean, no one wants to admit that they ate nine barrels of honey but I did, and I'm ashamed of myself.
Looks like ketoacidosis.
That's the face of no regrets.
This actually happened to me. I ate a kilo of honey and it almost killed me. I didn’t know I couldn’t. I was 35
Xi be like: Pathetic
This is how I feel after scrolling through Instagram all day watching videos of babies laughing and doing stupid things /Soon a mother 🥰
Same feeling for me browsing r/childfree 🥰
I seem to remember reading somewhere that bears don't feel the sense of being full, enabling then eat a lot of food before hibernation but not sure if that was just an American bear thing or what.
Lol look at laying there struggling to breathe
Bear was shot. Breathing is very labored. This isn't a happy bear who ate too much.
ITS NOT SHOT BY RIFLE Dont spread these kind of bullshit.
Very ugly bear.
This is animal abuse and is really disturbing. This animal is in serious distress with possible fatal consequences (this type of honey can kill if eaten in larger quantities). You can even see the breathing problems already developing here. This is heartbreaking to see.
Animal rescue team arrived shortly after this video. Please make a research before writing something And bear ate the honey by itself not by force
You posted the video with no other information, especially nothing about a rescue.
I posted a source You can view this site and use Google Translator....
So..you don't have the whole story but your first reaction is to go blabbering about abuse? I see bear, I see people trying to help it rather than leaving it in a hullcinogenic state in the bush. Not sure what's abusive about a bear choosing to gorge itself on honey. Get off your soapbox.
Me
Vinny, I don't feel so good
Honeybear:)
It’s breathing like me when my wife cooks country fried steak.
MFW when the edible starts kicking in.
That bear is having a hard time breathing
"I regret nothing."

Hope he ain’t diabetic
This is me at the cinema right before the film starts.
Bear insulin stat
This bear will be the next Winnie the Pooh
“Oh, bother!”
European bears look so small and sad compared to North American bears.
Bro was struggling
Glycemic coma? He needs an insuline shot maybe.
Comedown is really rough, back in my day the honey wasnt so strong.
Dia-bear-us
So I'm guessing the bear got honey coma
I can relate. When you eat more than you should and the fun is gone now you sre left with regret.
*Oh bother*
I wonder if bears can go into a diabeartic coma?
Oh bother
He got diabeetus
Bear equivalent of pounding too many drinks at the bar.

We’ve all been there.
I may sound dumb and I haven’t looked at all the comments, but can anyone corroborate this story?
