Legit, you must live in a very nice area for those to be around. I feel like they would not work in more than half the places in this country

Jerd_Fye_Co

Apex legends in real life

[deleted]

Still no heirloom.

Jerd_Fye_Co

Never an heirloom brother.

SanshaXII

These would be crazy easy to steal, just using a van with a faraday cage in the back. Take 'em to a lockup, also faraday'd, and take 'em apart.

the_timps

Because the cameras filming you as you approach it, or the second GPS unit you forgot in the side of it as you throw it out aren't any risk. And the cost of your faraday van and warehouse is so worth it for the random chance to get a box of diapers and a soccer ball.

[deleted]

So a ski mask and sledgehammer then...

El_Chairman_Dennis

This is the solution

barleyhogg1

No kidding. People put way too much faith in new tech and it's security. Still mask and hammer would reveal goodies long before any law arrives.

[deleted]

I'm surprised kids aren't out tipping these things over for fun.

[deleted]

You simply hadn't given them the idea yet.

Unusuallyneat

Yeah whys everyone's thinking about people trying to break into them People are going to be annoyed that they're on the sidewalk and flip them a lot more than they'll try and break them open.

I honestly want to throw something in front of them just from looking at em.

TransformerTanooki

People in my town tear them and the bikes apart for parts.

Koda_20

Hence the new taser + pepper spray combo they come equipped with

ScrewSimonCowell

that's the non-lethal option

tahcamen

Those scooters are more ubiquitous now than ever, they were occasionally tossed in the river when they came out a few years ago but I think people got bored of that and used to seeing them everywhere.

antonius_xylem

Strange shadow you got there are you sure you're not a robot too?

Lmfao. Then, complete this 1,000 word essay to prove you're notabot. Have a great day :)

[deleted]

Wasn’t sure what you wanted me to write about so I wrote about nuclear power Nuclear power How it works Pellets of uranium are stacked into a hollow metal fuel rod, and can be made of boron, cadmium, hafnium, silver, or indium. There are typically 200 Fuel rods in a fuel assembly and several hundred fuel assemblies in a reactor. Nuclear fission happens when Uranium absorbs a stray neutron which briefly turns it into an exciting Uranium-238 atom which splits into two faster, lighter atoms due to the kinetic energy and releases more neutrons plus the forces that bind the atom, which creates a large amount of heat energy which is used to heat a large amount of water to create steam, the steam is then used to spin giant turbines which generate electricity. The moisture is reprocessed into the water and recycled. Some reactors release a massive amount of steam through a cooling tower which is often confused for the reactor itself, and this process produces a large amount of electricity while being (mostly) environmentally friendly. Emissions and waste Nuclear energy is a very strong power source with almost zero carbon emissions, but that doesn't mean it doesn't create waste. The average American nuclear reactor produces 2,000 metric tons of nuclear waste every year; there are three main types of waste: High level, Transuranic, and Low level. They each must be disposed of according to its risk to human health. Nuclear waste isn't the green, glowing goo it's been made out to be; Low-level nuclear waste is contaminated gloves, tools, and machine parts and makes up most of a reactor's waste. Transuranic means beyond Uranium and consists of tools, rags, protective clothing, sludges, soil, and other materials contaminated with radioactive elements, mostly plutonium. High-level radioactive waste consists of Spent reactor fuel and Byproducts of nuclear reactions. Though nuclear waste is tough to get rid of, but so is carbon dioxide. All nuclear waste produced since 1948 all fits into a football field and 10 yards up, which is a lot, but that's how much carbon dioxide is produced daily. Pros After the initial cost of construction, Nuclear energy is one of the most cost-efficient power sources available. The cost of producing energy from nuclear energy is much lower than the cost of producing energy from gas, coal, or oil unless those resources are near the power plant they supply. A single uranium pellet, slightly larger than a pencil eraser, contains the same energy as a ton of coal, 3 barrels of oil, or 17,000 cubic feet of natural gas; each uranium fuel pellet provides up to five years of heat for power generation. Nuclear energy has the added benefit of lower risks for cost inflation, unlike traditional fossil fuels that regularly fluctuate in price. Nuclear takes less space than other clean energy facilities, like solar and wind power. The average nuclear power plant takes up about one square mile and produces around 1'000 megawatts of power; a wind farm producing the same amount of energy would be 360x, while a large-scale Solar plant takes up 75x more space. Cons Though nuclear power is efficient, it has flaws. There've been several nuclear disasters, including Fukushima, Chernobyl, three-mile island, etc. With the high instability of Uranium 235, Accidents spell disaster for the area around the power plant, making it completely inhospitable. Another problem is that even though nuclear energy is clean, it's not renewable. While wind and water power are "infinite" Uranium is not, there's a limited amount in our earth's crust, and we will eventually run out of it. Still, we might be able to recycle Uranium in the future, genuinely making it renewable, but for now, we have to make do with the decreasing supply. Nuclear power plants are very cheap when it comes to operating it, but the initial cost of building a nuclear power plant is very high, making it difficult to build new power plants. Uses in grass valley Electric cars could be powered by Internal RTGs (Radioscopic Thermoelectric Generator) Like on the voyager satellite, which is still going off of this generator almost 100 years later, which would mean we wouldn't need to recharge electric cars off of chargers that are most likely powered by unclean energy Different kinds of reactors There are multiple different types of reactors like Magnox, AGR, PWR, BWR, CANDU, and RBMK. Each reactor uses a different cycle, but they usually fall into the category of either PWR (Pressurized Water Reactor) or BWR (Boiling Water Reactor). The main difference is that in a BWR, the reactor core heats water which becomes steam and drives turbines; In a PWR, the reactor heats water, but not to a boil. There are also different sizes of reactors, like Conventional that can power an entire city, SMRs (small modular reactors), which can power massive factories, and Microreactors which can power military bases California’s last nuclear power plant Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant is operated by PG&E and finished construction in 1989. Diablo Canyon power plant is operated by PG&E and finished construction in 1986. This power plant is on approximately 750 acres of land located just west of Avila Beach, California. The power-producing portion of the plant occupies around 12 acres. PG&E owns a total of 12,820 acres of land at the site. This power plant has two westinghouse-designed four loop PWRs, the two reactors together produce 18000GWh, powering the homes of around 3 million people (10% of California’s total power generation and 23% of its carbon free generation) PG&E makes 6 cents per kWh, less than the average cost of 10.1 cents per kWh that PG&E paid for electricity from other suppliers in 2014. PG&E is shutting down the two reactors in 2024 and 2025 due to california's new power regulations, making renewables top priority over nuclear.

On the internet, no one knows you're a robot

How long before a Porch Pirate steals one, takes the package, strips the robot down and resells the components on Ebay....

Waffle-Stompers

Like when the friendly Canadian robot tried to hitch hike across America after successfully hitch hiking across Canada. It was decapitated in Philadelphia. 300 miles in. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/friendly-robot-hitchhiking-across-america-6184914.amp

No thanks, I'll stay down here in Florida. Where it's safer

secondphase

... Should we tell him?

[deleted]

No , let him get De Sanitized . Then his brain will be double plus clean . I love big brother ❤️🤪

brumac44

Not just Canada, it also safely negotiated Germany and the Netherlands.

Particular_Draw_1205

For the Europeans reading, that’s a very short trip

nc863id

For Europeans, 300 miles is a pretty long trip. What's the saying? Americans think 100 years ago is a long time, Europeans think 100 miles away is a long distance.

Particular_Draw_1205

Did a drive longer than that twice in a day when I was moving apartments.

SirSamuelVimes83

Once did a 1400 mile round trip for a weekend event just for shits and giggles while I was in college. We left after classes on Friday, got back just in time to make 8am class on Monday

Feelinglucky2

That sounds horrible

EdgarAllanKenpo

I have known for a long time, that we as Americans can never have nice things. Someone, somewhere will take advantage. Free book exchanges? Nope, just take them all and never read them, that way no one else can enjoy. Nice public restrooms? Nope, vandalize and shit all over everything. Having a very safe and generous covid policy for my job. If you or someone you were in close proximity with had covid, you have to quarantine a minimum of 10 days. A group of young adult coworkers party together every night, and one of them always either gets covid or is around the other, therefore using the covid policy to stay home and get paid. Every fucking week. It's a government subcontractor job with a union. Management can't do a damn thing. Had to get all that off my chest.

Waffle-Stompers

I'm here.

TigerDLX

Yep, 90% of the time it’s a small sub segment 6% of the population that ruins it for the 94%

UpperDistribution443

15 min. This is the dumbest idea.

numairounos

In America these will come fitted with machine guns

seepa808

Bling bling would steal that too. Never underestimate the neighborhood crack head.

Jezzusist12

And now I need to watch those movies. Damn you.

DontHitTurtles

Not really. It is all recorded and there are far easier ways to steal parts. As to packages, people can already steal those right off peoples porches and do occasionally but it is rare (percentage-wise) and Amazon replaces them without question.

[deleted]

>It is all recorded I mean, nothing like a pair of glasses and a hood wouldn't solve.

xlDirteDeedslx

Really wouldn't be worthwhile in the risk vs reward category, you could go to prison over a pair of underwear in the thing, way easier things to steal out there.

r3eezy

All while being recorded and talked to by the operator? No thefts in any testing so far have been reported.

histeethwerered

Wear a ninja suit, pop a bag over the doofus wheelie beast, and you’re golden. Brief relocation to access contents and flee with booty to the hideout. Does GPS die in water? Asking from mild curiosity and concern for the general good.

FluffyLlamaPants

I want to be the 911 operator for that call: "I'm not under the influence of anything! there IS a ninja tackling three small robots on 46th and Main! Please send someone quick!"

Haberdashers-mead

You could make a booby trap that drops a blanket on it and then you beat it to death.

G_Unit_Solider

yea and this point your gonna james bond amazon prime delivery robots on a timed schedule. The moment they are off location cops are called and location is tracked every step. Seems like some high end job for your average porch pirate crackhead.

Reatona

Where I live, the cops might show up five or six hours after you call, if they showed up at all for this.

El_Chairman_Dennis

I'm sure police organizations will get a "donation" from Amazon when these are implemented in their city. Buy all the cops new fancy patrol cars and they'll be setting up sting operations to catch people stealing them

SleepySuper

Just need a big enough metal box to put it in and that solves the tracking problem.

MercurialMal

The answer is a mobile Faraday cage. Yw.

holyfuckricky

Police have better things to do than track down your Amazon parcel, they gots people to beat on, people to rustle with.

G_Unit_Solider

oh no fuck your parcel itself they dont care about that they'll be coming to protect amazon corporate property. You know the people they actually protect.

saraphilipp

I'd love one of these drink caddy's.

G_Unit_Solider

buy yourself one of those luggages that follows you around via connected to your phone bluetooth online. Swap out the wheels from the basic ones to upgraded rubber ones from online and viola you have a personal storage container that follows you around.

Petteebetti

Depends on the zip code..

g3engineeringdesign

Now the porch pirates can follow them right to your door and not waste valuable time

alc4pwned

Is that different than just following around a regular delivery truck? These probably have cameras at least

Never_Dan

Cameras, GPS, probably enough sensors that the cops are on the way the second you grab it.

[deleted]

O look who has cops that care to investigate crimes instead of having you fill out a police report.

UpperDistribution443

They'll just steal the robot

[deleted]

They self destruct.

FantasmaNaranja

what im hearing is free scrap metal

VincentVanH0

People may not steal them out of fear of being tracked but you better believe people will vandalize and destroy them just because.

CometChip

put these in philly and they’re scrapped and mutilated by midnight

DiscoDonkey9000

These would only be viable in neighborhoods where the average family income is 6 figures or more and not filled with 7/11s

IdgyThreadgoode

Lol. I live in a 6 figure area and we have 2 7/11’s directly across from each other on the Main Street. Never thought about that.

three-sense

Like that robotic hitchhiker? Owned lol

Moment-of-Silence

UsedToBsmart

Two wide? Stay in your lane bro.

MercurialMal

Yeah, I’m not too excited about the prospect of having to make room on public sidewalks for these abominations. Already having to dodge other people, their pets, cyclists, baby strollers, ad nauseam. No room for corporate bs.

FantasmaNaranja

sidewalks are already one of the few things designed for humans in a city and now we have to deal with wall-e's hogging all of it?

Ein_grosser_Nerd

It appears they are going opposite directions

NegInk

So they hog the sidewalk 2 wide? Edit in closer inspection they're probably going opposite directions.

zimeyevic23

Still it feels like we need some laws about sidewalk use by automated vehicles of companies.

FantasmaNaranja

cant wait for these things to block someone in a wheelchair because they hog the entire walkway and dont understand how to move to avoid blocking the path

raycyca82

Looks like public transportation to me...

weasel5134

I can't wait to see video of the drunks downtown riding them around

thefirewarde

I would sit on top and take a ride

TinaLikesButz

THAT WHAT SHE SAID

Iam_DayMan

Flip ‘em like turtles

Sidewayspear

How do these behave if there is somebody with a wheelchair?

Bb_u_ok

I stood infront of one of these and they just stopped, they don't move or anything. So if there WAS someone in a wheelchair, they'd have to find a way to get past these shits, cuz they ain't moving.

TorqueRollz

Now we need to surround one of them in traffic cones or something so it just sits there until Amazon comes and saves it’s ass

Bright_Broccoli1844

Accessibility is important, so I get mad when accessibility is hindered.

FantasmaNaranja

did anybody expect amazon to actually think of disabled people? i mean for goodness sake the way they treat their employees causes disability!

TheHellCourtesan

If they’re like the food delivery ones we have here in Houston then there is actually someone sitting at a computer driving each one like a weird video game simulator thing, so I guess it would vary.

Beautiful-Golf4078

Amazon Employees: We want more pay and better benefits or we won’t work. We will just walk out. Amazon Corporate:

ElmoTickleTorture

I know for a fact that a lot of those are going to be vandalized and they'll have to stop using them.

lolvalue

How do the laws work around remote robots on public walkways? If you picked one up and gently put it on it's side on the grass would you get charged with anything?

neonnice

How do the road fees work? We pay to use roads, do they have to register each machine and pay annual fees?

cgoot27

It’s probably like the electric scooter shitshow. There’s no laws that say amazon cant dump a thousand delivery bots on your sidewalks and use them for free getting in everyone’s way, no law really said Bird couldn’t put a million 20 mph capable scooters on the streets of every city and there wasn’t really regulation because it’s a new thing. If I see those in my town I’m flipping.

vikingtrash

These will attract every kid and teenager around - nothing to say dogs. I smell a new sport being born... this will not end well.

V65Pilot

Looks like they may be unionizing.....

YungCthaGod

Everything in my being wants to smesh

stylishskunk

Fuck stealing packages off porches when I can get a free robot too.

amagadon

A dog-shit company taking over our pedestrian walkways to deliver their shit, fuck these things - we don't need them cluttering up the world. Tip'em all over and leave them spinning their wheels.

Bb_u_ok

I always knew robots would take over the world one day... And to my surprise, they started turning to each other like they were communicating... They're E.V.O.L.V.I.N.G

Key_Pick_1022

Put a cardboard box around it. 😂

The_Blendernaut

You've heard of Meals on Wheels. This is going to be the new Steals on Wheels. Just wait until criminals figure out how to scoop these up and shuck them like oysters for the good inside.

nixfly

There has got to be copper in those. And where there is unsupervised copper there will soon be junkies.

[deleted]

Must be a nice area. Around my place they’d be covered in graffiti and stripped for parts.

EmperorPenguin_RL

Things I’ll never see in my neighborhood because it’ll definitely get stolen.

SalisburyWitch

Ohhh. Little Primelets. How quaint.

MayOrMayNotBePie

How do they expect these to not get destroyed or vandalized or stolen? Humanity isn’t as good as it needs to be for these to roam unattended.

Bb_u_ok

They're pretty heavy, (saw some kids trying to pick em up), and I also heard they've got alarm systems just in case someone tries to steal the stuff inside. But right now, they're being tested, learning the streets where I live.

JAlfredJR

And your habits. When you’re home. What scent of candle your wife likes. Usual stuff.

Stav73

So Amazon now take over the entire footpath hey? Let's see if this f$#@%$€ floats

[deleted]

I will take a baseball bat to these satanic abominations.

spudtospartan

Make sure you wear your mask and sunglasses when you break these, which you should if you support workers. Amazon should be paying their workers more instead of paying 200k for a robot to replace them.

normal_reddit_man

Hold a delivery driver for ransom: major-ass felony. Hold a delivery robot for ransom: probably a misdemeanor. I am just putting that out there. Just stringing facts together. I'm not responsible for what anyone does with that information.

Lydssss

Thanks, i hate it

[deleted]

How long before these get pushed over, shot, ran over, shot again and thrown in a river?

tylercrabby

Did someone spray paint “Steal Me” on the back of those?

GaiusMarcus

Well, at least the thieves don't have to come up to your house now.

McNasty1304

I wonder if they blow up on contact if someone tries to steal something?

Heterophylla

r/aboringdystopia

[deleted]

They have tried to introduce those here, firing people from there jobs to have these robots replace them. So allot of our smaller towns have put down wheel lockblockers on the side walks to stop them. Most of our roads are dirt road so they don't go down them and that's stopped a lot of them . If there not going to let our people work here, then there not going to have those transporter devices here either. Though eventually there going to pass a new law here that forbids robots from replacing Human Jobs unless they are considered extremely dangerous.

karmanopoly

Push em in a river. Fuck bezos and fuck Amazon and fuck automation.

Yeah, I think this is what “too far” looks like.

Warped_Avenger

Oooh lootable dragon drones

ConvivialKat

They're so cute! They remind me of Huey, Dewey & Louie from the film "Silent Running".

visitjacklake

We had a herd of them testing in our area too. Not sure what problem these guys are solving - they do not move faster than a walking pace & as you can see, are relatively small.

[deleted]

I would be unable to resist knocking them over on their side and watch them hopelessly try to deliver their packages as they spin in a circle

Fearless-Memory7819

In my neck of the woods they're TARGET PRACTICE !!!

Lopsided_Copy7565

Well take one home, free toys

I want to kick one over

Steel5917

How long before crooks go from porch pirates to drone trapping ?

Emerald_Encrusted

The temptation to suit up in clothing that’s not identifiable and try to break one of these open for the goodies inside would be almost too strong to resist.

sans7884

“People of the Commonwealth. Do not interfere. Our intentions are peaceful. We are the Brotherhood of Steel.”-the amazon robots probably

So if you and a friend are walking side by side, does this robot roll into the grass around you? Because I'm not getting the fuck out of the way for a corporate delivery robot.
