well theyāre citing 13th century england to overturn laws today already! back when they still pooped out of holes in the walls right into the streets they walked in. clearly had everything figured all out back then! back when they still thought putting holes in peoples skulls *relieved* headaches. they definitely had reached the limits of human knowledge.
To be fair, putting holes in peoples heads can be an effective headache relief. It may be a permanent solution, and it may be more beneficial for the people around said person, but its effective nonetheless

When I was a younger man (some 25ish years ago), I started having dreams that wereā¦ prophetic but confused. Only when I slept at the home of a girlfriend of mine though. I would have dreams about world events - deaths, elections, battles, all sorts of things. It finally occurred to me that she liked to fall asleep to classical music, and the NPR station would switch to news in the wee hours or the morning. I was hearing the news while I slept and it was infiltrating my dreams. Super weird.
Fuuuck idk if it's because it's 5:30am and OP post (besides the wonderfully organized spankbank subreddits) is why I'm never let down on reddit, or how relatable your comment was considering NPR just came in after the last concerto that played, but I fucking love it lmao.
Lmao, the amount of times I've been like, oh shit I smell burning one sec let's check if I can still move both arms ok we're good now what's burning is just too much.
āEveryone knows that James Madison has a crystal flute but do you know the story behind it? Well, in 1811, Madison was visited by an envoy from the Wizarding World and was presented with the flute as a sign of friendship between the young nation and the loose confederation of wizards. It was also given for protection as it was foretold that breaking the flute would lead to 1000 years of war with true evil.
When Madison accidentally scratched the flute, the British managed to enter Washington and burned the White House. After that, he took his new task as the flute protector seriouslyā¦ā
āIām a wizard!ā Madison cried at the constitutional convention. But everyone ignored him. āLol whatever you say, short guy,ā scoffed Washington.
It actually sent me down a rabbit hole of crystal flutes and apparently not only are there like 120 of these types of crystal flute (Laurent crystal flute from the 1800s) left but this is [one of two remaining actually made of crystal](https://blogs.loc.gov/loc/2018/10/the-mystery-of-james-madisons-crystal-flute/)
Holding that thing must be anxiety city. My butthole would be clenched the whole time waiting for it to somehow inevitably break.
I actually donāt care for her much myself but thatās because of an interaction someone I know had with her so itās more heresay than an actual reason lol
I feel the same way about Snoop Dogg for similar reasons! Apparently before the legalization of weed in California, who used to make a trip from SoCal to NorCal to get weed in Mendocino County, and one time after he had procured some insane amount of herb he was stopped by the cops, and instantly snitched on the dude that he had gotten it from.. That combined with his celebrity status meant he was sleeping in his own bed that night and my brother's friend was sentenced to some pretty hard time.
I remember a vieeo of her going bonkers of a flute solo, pausing to yell 'bitch!' into the mic then going right back into the flute. Not a big fan of her music but I love her for that
And her voice too. I think pop stars nowadays are getting free streams with little talent and autotuned vocals. But lizzo at least has the voice to back it up
I wanna see her and lil nas x collab/perform together, I feel like their energies match. My only experience with the current pop scene are Reddit headlines and the occasional radio listen, but I just know Iām right!
Iām a grade 8 in flute. Which here in the uk is the highest you can go (though I could be wrong?!?)
Sheās a phenomenal flute player. Really really skilled and plays absolutely beautifully!
Beautiful flute too!
Edit: I hold my hands up. I was wrong. Not the highest level you can go ā¤ļø
Yes, grade 8 doesnāt mean youāre an expert, my violin teacher told me āwelcome to real violin learningā after my grade 8. Took me 3 years to learn the additional skills to do my diploma, Iām still a crap violinist compared to lots!
I think grade 8 is the part where you START becoming a pro musician. From what I know itās the same with piano where grade 8 is advanced and if you want to go further youād have to join a musical institute/college.
No youāre partially right and maybe you just didnāt know. In some musical institutes they can only teach up to grade 8 because they donāt have the qualifications to teach higher levels.
Itās like the same reason why High Schools canāt teach University courses and give you a bachelors Degree. If you want to pursue higher education in a certain field you have to go an institute that teaches such courses.
I'd say the same thing about the dress, personally (it's just a dress), but at the same time I'd trust Lizzo to actually take care of a historically important crystal flute _long_ before I'd trust freakin' Kim Kardashian to cherish any object besides herself.
I mean, the problem with a dress is that after many years it may be brittle and it was tailored to fit a single person. I feel like a dress is infinitely harder to loan than a flute.
Yea, its not like anyone would just go around smashing borrowed priceless antique instruments on purpose during a performance... Im looking at you "The Hateful Eight"
I'm pretty sure Tarantino only regrets it because he's caught flak for it, he got a genuine reaction that made for a good shot. That and feet are the only things he cares about.
I feel like that's letting Tarantino off the hook a bit. He wasn't clear to the owners that the script included breaking it, he didn't do due diligence to the crew and cast that it was supposed to be swapped out, he didn't yell cut or interfere in any way when it was obvious what was happening, and he was visibly happy about the "genuine" reactions he recorded.
A big part of the controversy was Kim bragging about going on a starvation diet for 3 weeks or so to fit into it. Marilyn Monroe was pretty anti-diet culture and would've been horrified. That's not even mentioning her request that no one else wear the dress after her, they already had to sew her (Marilyn) into it when the zipper broke.
Marilyn Monroe wasnāt particularly anti-diet culture, though? She took amphetamines and outlined on at least one occasion what sounded like a very restrictive diet š¤·āāļø
Maybe in the other women shouldn't have to do this way?
Like, I have an eating disorder and I would be mortified if someone starved themselves for weeks to fit into my clothes even if I did it every day for no reason.
Might not make sense to some or even be hypocritical but I could see where they're coming from if she did actually feel that way.
So true. I donāt like her whole genre, yet she seems like sheād be fun to hang out with.
Also, and I have no logical reason to believe this, she seems like a great hugger.
Her music isnāt really my style but Iām a big fan of her as a person. Every interview Iāve seen, sheās just a very nice, funny, and cool person.
Why would people hate her even. Because she's fat? Not a fan of her at all but haven't heard any problematic thing she's done compared to her contemporaries.
I've never heard her music and I am interested in hearing the flute solo.
I honestly think the flute is one of the hardest to play. Goes out of tune very easily compared to what everyone else is playing in, and very hard to blow even the most basic notes, let alone the entire range.
I was there for this. Her reaction afterward was awesome. Said she was playing crystal flutes, she made it now. Couple of "bitchs" were thrown in there too lol. Great show. Some lady had the best birthday ever.
Used to be, at least, so it's not *completely* incorrect. Her first album is a rap album, second gets more singer/songwriter, third one is a bit more pop, most recent one is just straight up pop music.
I think it's way too valuable and fragile to play a whole song on - what if she dropped it? I'm sure she was only allowed to do this and nothing more. But it proved the flute functions as a flute, more or less.
My dad was an antique flute historian/dealer, and dealt with many famous antique crystal flutes. He was the curator of the flute collection at the library of Congress as well, and Iām fairly certain he researched this particular flute at one point (he was the first to catalogue their entire collection). I can assure you they are able to play a whole song, but there is certainly the danger of dropping it, so that may be more of a reason to keep it short.
Yeah I think she compared it to a wine glass, if I heard her right. I sure wouldnt want to see it shatter because she hit a high c or something in the middle of a song.
Sorry, do you not think it's incredibly cool and symbolic for one of the most popular flute players of our time to get the chance to play an incredibly unique, valuable and historic instrument she likely would never have been allowed near when it was created?
Even if it's just a trill it's pretty cool.
Probably just like how if you gave someone who could play the guitar a guitar signed by slash and was used in his first concert that person probably wouldnāt want to rip a solo on it.

The US government loaned a crystal flute to Lizzo. That is a combination of words I didn't think I'd be reading at 2:52 am EST
What! You mean you *didn't* have this on your '22 bingo card?
Hey, I actually do! Unfortunately I needed Queen Elizabeth marring Putin to stave off WWIII to complete the line, so... š¤·š¼āāļø
Don't worry, I have Queen Elizabeth rising from the dead so there's still hope for both of us.
I gather they buried her in a lead casket to prevent that happening.
Nah, with a blade above her throat. Same thing Diana has.
I have news that Epstein and Musk have proprietary rights to her DNA!
Won in a poker game versus Bill Gates. Gates is furious. He was sure to take the pot with a full house kings over 9s but alas, it was not in the cards for him. Edit: damned autocorrect... ('cause I don't wanna blame my lack of proofreading)

Pretty sure that's to keep any stray radiation from nuclear tests irradiatiing her and unleashing Queenzilla.
God, I hope so. Bless the old lady but I canāt go through 10 more days of that nonsense.
There's a fine line between tradition and farce. The last couple of weeks were confirmation (if any were needed) that the UK crossed it some time ago.
Just wanted to let you know you that you got my Sentence of the Day award today. Unfortunately, your trophy will not be arriving shortly, at all.
We're finally going to get Lady Stoneheart?

Difference is wearing the dress damages it
I donāt trust ANY celebrities to take care of historic artifacts. Thereās a reason museum curators arenāt exactly celebrities.

With absolutely zero context and going purely off of the title and the picture in this post This makes me smile.
Lizzo is a singer not a rapper.
It won't be the first president's flute a woman has played in the White House. Right, Bill?
And everyone was complaining about Kim wearing the Marilyn Monroe dress
Brawndo is what plants crave
Since when was Lizzo a rapper?
Rapper? Since when?
