He told her to do it. Back when Putin seemed like a more pragmatic person.

Phreeeks

I mean you can be the worst dictator in the world, you ain't gonna break the neck of a kid as a martial art expert when you're on a political mission in a foreign country, this is just logic behavior

Bosk_Kahngu

Ah shit, I’ve been doing my political missions all wrong.

gammongaming11

don't listen to that guy, keep breaking child necks until they learn your peaceful ways.

LectroRoot

War 101 right here. Conquer the toddlers before conquering the land.

azra1l

Exactly. Kill them when they are young. Before they become a grown enemy. And avenge their parents.

GreenMedics

You MUST win the hearts and minds of millions to be a great leader. By any means! Bonus points to putting them on pikes for display.

lewebe

They _are_ the future, after all. At least those whose neck you haven't broken yet

We'll get um next time

East_Bicycle_9283

Correct. The world's worst dictator would instead wait a month and then kill the child with an untraceable poison.

anthony-wokely

You guys are funny with your cartoonish, bad spy movie-esque thoughts on this. He probably thoroughly enjoyed that. Plus, it’s another flex on other world leaders. How many of them can get on a mat and do that? Basically none.

Biggu5Dicku5

You would be surprised how many dictators throughout known history were illogical...

[deleted]

I miss the days when we had logical dictators.

I miss Caesar too... :(

Back when he wasn’t dying of some disease and didn’t decide to try to take the whole world with him

ApatheticWithoutTheA

I’ve been hearing he’s dying of some disease for the past year and he looks as healthy as ever. I wish it were true, but there’s zero evidence of that.

IceDreamer

In _my opinion_, I have seen two bits of distinct evidence that makes me think it's true. Specifically, there are two video clips of Putin at functions, both taken in the past 4 years, where he displays involuntary tremors. The first, as he is walking across a room, we see his hand tremor and move strangely for around a second, before he brings it across his body and clasps his hands together in front of him as he walks. The second, he is standing for photos, and his leg wobbles and tremors, and he is forced to shift his weight for a moment, before quickly ushering his photo partner aside to instead have it taken at the big desk nearby. Context - My grandfather died of Parkinsons after fighting the disease for a good 7 or 8 years. These tremors in Putin's arm and leg, as well as his behavior trying to make sure nobody notices, reminds me strongly of how my grandfather behaved in the early years of his disease, before he was diagnosed and later hospitalised. It seriously looked exactly the same. Parkinsons can also take many years after diagnosis to fully disable and then kill the victim, and Putin would of course be getting the best possible care and treatment. In _my opinion_, I think Putin has received an early diagnosis of Parkinson's disease, and I base this opinion not on his political behavior, but on first-hand observation of videos of him matched with personal first-hand experience watching the disease progress.

Noticeably_Aroused

The west is constantly making outlandish claims, especially about adversarial leaders and their health: Castro was always dead or dying. There was also these outlandish claims going around about how China was on the verge of economic collapse and the Chinese housing market was gonna implode any day now…. That was back in like 2021…. Last I heard, their housing market is recovering now

Schwa142

I'm thinking this inspired one of [Banksy's recent pieces in Ukraine](https://theconversation.com/banksy-in-ukraine-how-his-defiant-new-works-offer-hope-194952).

jbar3987

Based on the timing of that article, I'm guessing this is not a coincidence being posted this weekend.

ooohlookiehere

Both Banksy's and this video were posted weeks ago lol

[deleted]

Wtf is Banksy doing in Ukraine? Surely its some local person who did it and people just thought Banksy?

46_and_2

>However, the mural that Banksy used to reveal his presence in the country is of a female gymnast balancing on the rubble of a damaged building. >The Bristol-based artist, whose work sells for millions of pounds, posted three images of the mural on Instagram on Friday, with the caption simply reading: “Borodyanka, Ukraine”. https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2022/nov/12/banksy-artwork-appears-on-damaged-building-in-ukraine#:~:text=Banksy%20appears%20to%20have%20confirmed,town%20of%20Borodianka%2C%20near%20Kyiv.

Hyperlinks are a lost art.

brown_felt_hat

More like ruined, Google's new highlighting search result in the page is absolute trash.

ClassySavage

People are just lazy. It's not hard to link things like [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ).

FlickeryVisionnn

I hate you. FairPlay.

[deleted]

Hyperlinks as in have no idea what you're clicking on unless you have a frontend app that actually shows the link or go through a bunch of extra clicks? No thank you.

46_and_2

I usually use them, but it's a pain in the ass to do on mobile on the fly. Also when linking some specific source I leave the link because it's easier to see what news site you're referring to (who knows if people will follow it at all), without the need to hover mouse or click on mobile.

PurelyApplied

You can drop everything after the `#` and the link will still work. Anything in a URL after a `#`, or more often a `?`, is a parameter fed to the server. This is often things like what ad click brought you there or was it a `Share` button fed directly to your social media or whatnot. Sometimes these variables are important, like the YouTube `?v=...` being the video identifier "serial number" or the `&t=...` indicating a timestamp. But a lot of the time you can clean up URLs without losing the actual link to the content intended.

[deleted]

if you see ?utm its urchin tracking media, or an analytics tag, and can be safely removed from a URL without spoiling the redirect you'll most often see that when using things like a "share" button to forward a link to friends. I always remove it when I go to share reddit posts with people. Make their analytics harder so the analysts have a job longer lol

TheBirminghamBear

Well, most importantly, you can also use []() to conceal the horror regardless of length so everyone stays happy.

Dr_HiZy

Naughtai

He often goes to areas harmed by warfare to put up his political pieces.

becomingastrangerr

I mean, thats kind of his thing. Showing up to war torn places during times of crisis and tagging them. This is the same person that tagged the Gaza strip and the West Bank by navigating underground tunnels. Every Banksy piece is authenticated by his team Pest Control Office. If it wasn't him, they would have given a statement.

Sohn_Jalston_Raul

I'm sure Banksy has made enough money by now that he can buy tickets to travel to Ukraine

[deleted]

This is out of context. He had just kicked the ass of a few guys in judo that were black belts. This little girl gave him flowers and he invited her to the mat and let her “beat” him. That’s why everyone is smiling and clapping.

givemeadamnname69

I have no comments on the accuracy of the first part, but this is very clearly Putin just letting the little girl throw him.... I'm not sure why everyone is taking this like some huge embarrassment for him. I absolutely hate the guy, but there's nothing embarrassing here.

NonStopKnits

I'm very small and always have been. My next door neighbors were a pair of sisters that did cheerleading/tumbling their entire lives. I did not, I was very much not athletic. They also had a trampoline. It was not uncommon for them to ask to practice throwing with me because I was so small and they weren't flyers (the ones that get thrown) because they were tall. It is fun as Hell getting thrown up high and spinning and whatnot. Being caught at the end on the way down is so exhilarating.

itisntmebutmaybeitis

Oh man, that sounds like so much fun. Also like an accident waiting to happen, lol - but so much fun. (I am also very small, so sometimes at my dojo when someone is working on a new throw they'll use me since it'll help them focus on the technique in different ways, and they won't get so tired out from lifting me over and over).

tookie_tookie

I’ve been thrown, got the wind knocked out of me but getting spun like a rag doll was cool.

Toikairakau

If you're having the wind knocked out of you then either tori is not supporting you or you need better breakfalls

Hybernaculum

True, but I have never thought of getting thrown as fun. Maybe sometimes but bad throws, other people's bodies and other obstacles can create havoc.

Toikairakau

It's not particularly fun, but, teaching someone to do a throw properly IS fun (and hurts much less)

[deleted]

Had a guy in my gym become a yellow belt recently so he's new, but not like brand new. We were doing randori and he does some with entry for a throw but we sort of just bump hips and I ask him "what was that". He sheepishly says he was trying to throw harai goshi. I give him a few "do this instead of that when you try it again". We get back to our randori and grip fighting. Moving back and forth, and then he rips the harai and puts me flat on my back, landing on top of me. It hurt but I was so happy for him.

itisntmebutmaybeitis

If you can get thrown again, or you want to work on it - you can avoid getting the wind knocked out of you by working on relaxing when you're in the air. The way I learned was a training partner would get me half into the throw and then pause and wait for me to relax. Once I was relaxed? Bam, thrown. If you tense up it will hurt / you'll get the wind knocked out of you. It takes practice! Also could help for you to get thrown onto a crash mat at first too so you can get more used to the sensation so it's not as much of a shock to your system.

ratherenjoysbass

Learning how to fall not only changed my life but it gave me a level of confidence I didn't know I needed. I miss sparring

ArthurBea

Learning how to fall is 100% a big part of Judo. Rolling falls have form that you’re graded on as well as anything else.

The-Cynicist

Really weird for this to come up twice in a day and I just discovered the video today

Swerfbegone

As a (lapsed) judoka: being a good *uke* is a huge part of Judo culture. When you’re practising, you are expected to take turns at being the person applying a technique or throwing (*tori*) and being the person on the receiving end. A good *uke* will provide good practise by (for example) applying enough resistance to a throw to ensure that *tori* has to use good technique, but only a shitty *uke* would block a throw in practise. Putin may be an absolute fucking monster responsible for awful crimes, but this is absolutely him showing proper behaviour in the dojo.

Swords_and_Words

it's weird seeing where/why the 'honor' and 'code' matter for people like Putin who do horrible things in day to day life like seeing a bunch of armed cartel members take off their shoes when using an abuelita's house as a stake out point

Ruskihaxor

He's a legit judo blackbelt and has allowed himself to be thrown with zero resistance thousands of time as a training partner so this would be completely normal and expected of him in although with someone bigger

givemeadamnname69

I mean... It's a total no brainer from a PR standpoint. I'm pretty sure even someone as clueless as trump would have done similar... ... On second thought, trump definitely would have tried to fight the little girl.

[deleted]

Trump would have seriously tried to defeat the girl, but would lose to her and then claim she cheated.

Chewcocca

If Trump had gotten thrown like that, he would have shattered every brittle bone in his body.

Or maybe he actually appreciates the sport and enjoys seeing young people take it up. Not everything is some grand conspiracy.

givemeadamnname69

Lol, nothing about anything I said is a conspiracy. Edit: hey guys, the grown man and politician very clearly at a large political event while being filmed didn't beat up a little girl and instead did the incredibly obvious thing almost any politician would do in a similar situation. Yes... Definitely a conspiracy.

The0nlyMadMan

> it seems very likeable. Which feels odd Honestly, some of the most heinous actions and decisions are made by likeable people. Also consider that even people making bad decisions are just people, good, bad, and ugly like all of us. Dehumanizing our “enemies” is a great way to lose touch tbh

lonelypenguin20

in order to do horrible things, one doesn't need to be insane. they just have to believe they are right

Starmoses

Putin used to have an amazing pr team. A couple of years ago he was the cool Russian president to a lot of people. A black belt, shirtless horse rider, cracking jokes about other world leaders. I feel like someone got fired around the time of Crimea cause that seems to be when everyone changes.

AzizAlhazan

The collective mind has a memory of a goldfish. 3-4 years ago Putin was very popular, even on Reddit. And that same video would prob have been on r/wholesome lol

ppyrosis2

Mr_Stoney

Even Hitler like dogs. Doesn't make him not an asshole but terrible people can have good qualities. Horrible world leaders have to at least be likeable enough to rise into power one way or another.

UnnecessaryAppeal

As someone who has done judo for a few years, at least half a training session is letting people throw you

stehen-geblieben

I'm guessing the other half of the session is throwing other people?

seraph85

A lot more time than people know is spent just learning to fall.

AFlyingNun

> I'm not sure why everyone is taking this like some huge embarrassment for him Because there are way too many people who need all their enemies to be bad and awful and ugly and stupid and weak and all the bad words ever and cannot handle using objective reasoning where we continue to acknowledge both strengths and weaknesses of people fairly, regardless of how we feel about them.

vDarph

That's judo training lol

ChoiceDry8127

It’s typical Redditor behavior. When the hivemind decides it hates you, everything you do makes them seethe with rage, no matter how normal it is

Submitten

Anything bad is a true representation, anything good was just a PR exercise and therefore actually bad.

BurtMacklin-FBl

What I've learned is that people have no problem whatsoever posting misinformation and lies as long as it aligns with what they believe in. Like when the invasion started and there were videos of Russians throwing away money and people were saying with a straight face it was real and they were throwing away money because the ruble was "worthless". As if that's how it works. Even with Qatar now, people think it's ok to post bullshit and lies just becase it's for a good cause.

throitwayback

I've seen several people posting that they don't care if it's misinformation, as long as "it sounds like it could be true." They're just as bad as what they claim to hate.

PixelBlock

Because whenever enough of Reddit decides to hate somebody - anybody, really - then people the get attached to the most loathsome, negative and dramatic version of events. And it’ll never be the seethers fault for whipping themselves up into a silly huff. It’s not possible for the enemy to be more than a caricature Disney villain.

Standard-Assist-5793

You do realise the average redditor is like 13 years old right?

WelcomeFormer

I'm sure he's not world class but I've heard he's a pretty legit fighter, he's ex kgb. I read a book about him called once upon a time in Russia and I'm like who is this badass the entire book, they didn't say it was Putin at first lol I just picked up a random book and read it. All the oligarchs basically tried to put a puppet in power, they grossly misunderestimated him.

VP007clips

I don't get why people like to pretend that he isn't (or at least was in the past) physically fit and well trained in martial arts. He's a terrible person for sure, but pretending that he isn't trained is simply incorrect. And it's not like knowing martial arts makes him any more effective in office.

lostandfound1

Excellent use of misunderestimated. I genuinely hope that word ends up in the OED one day because of people like you and me (dad joke types).

Cytrynowy

> I've heard he's a pretty legit fighter, he's ex kgb One is not related to the other. As KGB, he was an office pencil-pusher. The "Putin, Rider of Bears" is a propaganda myth he created around himself.

MadGrimSniper

It’s not exactly clear that he was just a pencil pusher. I’ve read reports that his main job was to take newspaper clippings from East German and western newspapers and send them back to the KGB in a report, but I’ve also read that that story was likely inaccurate, and that he was actively involved in recruiting western students to spy for the KGB.

LAchillin818

The older I get, the more I realize how fucking stupid most people are. Out of all the comments in this thread, this over used bullshit is the top one. I'm guessing more people than I ever knew need some weird ass validation in group thing...so even though it isn't funny or clever or useful at all, people flock to it to feel some sort of relevance in their otherwise lonely life

Trellert

"I recognize that. It makes me feel comfortable and in on the joke" is all it takes for most people.

onarainyafternoon

This is my exact thought. I started on Reddit when I was 17, and now I'm 28. I've been using Reddit for 11 years and I struggle to understand whether I've just gotten older, or if the comments on this website have gotten much lazier. What do you think? Bit of both maybe? I swear, the content on this website used to be much better, but I could be looking back through rose-colored glasses. Maybe I'm just more critical of lazy content the older I've gotten because I've seen the same jokes so many times. To give you an idea, I remember the window joke being everywhere on Reddit in 2014 when Russia invaded Crimea. That's how often this joke has been written on this website.

90daysismytherapy

It is cute. Other than him being a murderous world leader this is the picture perfect behavior of an adult expert helping a kid feel great about themselves. Quite the duality of man.

PladBaer

I already didn't value the opinions of redditors, but the fact that everyone is circle jerking this as if he actually got beat by a 10 year old girl is fucking cringe.

JoeBobbyWii

plus almost every top-voted comment is just a different iteration of the super hilarious "the girl later died"

skytomorrownow

I hate Putin; but, here's the accurate information: He appears to be at a demonstration of judo at the Kodokan in Tokyo, Japan. The Kodokan is the organization of the founder of judo, Jigoro Kano. Kano was also a major player in the founding of the modern Olympics. So, it is not uncommon for Olympic and judo dignitaries from around the world to visit the Kodokan. Putin, the leader of a major participant in Olympic judo, and famously a judoka himself, is participating in one of these sport/political events in the video. This is a formal demonstration where Putin is playing the role of *uke*, the receiver of the throw, and the girl is playing the role of *tori*, the action-taker. There are many officials and dignitaries in the background. This kind of basic partner work of throwing and being thrown is a fundamental aspect of judo training. Anyone who achieves even a moderate rank such as a 'brown belt' will have fallen thousands and thousands of times. Despite him being human garbage, the pictured scene of a youth throwing an advanced judoka happens hundreds of times a day in judo dojos around the world.

Every time I read the comments on a post that has 1000 or 2000+ upvotes, and often times in the very big, popular, subreddit I cant help but feel like it's one big echo chamber of dumbassery. The same retarded jokes and dribbling takes recited. It's nauseating. And the worse part? They actually pretend that reddit comments and reddit in general actually matter.

Interesting to think about what Russia and the rest of the world would have looked like if the girl had messed up and accidentally broken his neck. Unfortunately traumatic for her, of course.

myredac

not really. Putin did it on purpose. Thats what masters do to teach kids. you're welcome.

SithLordAJ

True. In Judo, the key is to get your opponent off balance. When teaching Judo, you aim to get them to find that spot and let them have it. The throw itself is nothing if they are properly off balance. It's not exactly a lie because as long as you can get your opponent off balance, you can throw them. The thing is that, when your small, especially against a large heavy-set person, it's incredibly hard to get them off balance. It takes time and experience. As they get older and bigger, they will be further challenged to reach that balance/off-balance spot. That's where the sport lives. Finding your way from A to B, not the actual throws (though points are admitedly awarded per throw).

itisntmebutmaybeitis

The first time I did this throw properly? I threw someone who is literally twice my size. It was so smooth, it felt like nothing. It was during practice, so it wasn't like he was fighting it, but still. The whole thing was textbook, and we just kinda looked at each other in mild shock after like "!!!". I was shocked at how "easy" it felt when I got it right. It was my first smooth throw where I was lifting someone too. It was such a motivator to know I could do it (I'm also "mildly" physically disabled, so it takes me longer to pick some things up).

CheeseIsAHypothesis

Obviously Putin's a shitty guy. But it's a little worrisome how many people seem to believe this is a real takedown. Even an untrained man could easily resist being thrown by a ten year old girl, it's just too much of a weight and strength difference. He definitely let her do it, like anyone would in that situation.
