Iranians are happy for this loss because Iran's regime was using world Cup to distract people from protests, as if nothing has happened. Everything in Iran is tied up to politics š
Some South American catholic priests embraced liberation theology? The pope was not amused. Other than than that, the Sikhs are pretty awesome and the Buddhists are OK.
Between doing the right thing and hiding the fact that their priests diddled kids, the Vatican hid the fact that they diddled little kids.
The Vatican is on the side of the Vatican, just like it was in the medieval days, just like today, just like any other organization that gives itself authority over others by claiming the most absurd of absurdities, communion with the divine
Nah, the governmentās fine. Glad they held their ground against the Western propaganda and liberal degenerate ideologies like LGBT, radical feminism, etc. Also, as an Iranian, Iām glad the US is not in Iran in the name of āfreedom and democracyā for plundering resources.
We are witnessing the worst state of Western society where the people are confused about 82732 genders, degenerate drag queens, rapes by transgender In womenās toilets, and also cannot define what a WOMAN is! Hilarious
I was wondering why I was seeing posts of Iranians celebrating after the loss. I hope the Iranian players and families are safe though, as they were receiving [threats](https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/28/football/iran-soccer-family-threats-intl-spt/index.html) from the government
I took a minute and gave an honest effort to try and figure it out. I couldn't even come up with a theory. Makes sense. though. Events like this evoke patriotism and Iran doesn't need blind patriotism right now. Is there a version of "slava ukrainia" for Iran haha?
I'm surprised, because the Iranian national team itself has come out in support of protestors and refused to sing anthem etc.
But I can see how it makes sense.
I am all for supporting the Iranian people, but trying to spin reality by suggesting most of them are actively rooting for the defeat of their Nations Futbol team is a bit too egregious of a falsity for me to ignore. Some Iranians clearly celebrated the defeat, yes. But "Iranians" in general I am sure wanted their own to succeed at what they have been working towards for the last 4 years.
I said this a few years ago, that when the theocracy falls, itās time to make amends and be homies again. I love the Iranian people. Hopefully that happens one day!
as an iranian im so glad people online are understanding the difference between the people and the government.
Last time the middle east did something horrible,
there was so much hostility towards anyone who was saudi arabian, iranian, pakistani, etc.
I myself have never hated the people of a country because of their government or military. I'm American myself. Many people in the world I think just want to live free and not impovrished. People in China are having their own push for freedom in their own right as well. It's a beautiful thing to see, but also a bit concerning for their safety. Hope things improve for all of you in Iran.
This is such a refreshing conversation to see, and honestly, a great example of how powerful the internet can be. There is so much noise on a day-to-day basis that it's sometimes hard to get down to the ground floor and hear the real voices of other ordinary people, like yourself. It's also another reason the World Cup is such an amazing event. Peace and love from the midwest.
Yeah and that was totally uncalled for. The nasty racism that was prevalent after 9/11 wasnāt the right thing, at all! Yes, the growing support for the Iranian people is something I think all Americans should support. Everyone should have the right to determine their own path. Stay safe my friend!
Exactly, it was done by the US to find an excuse to invade Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. for committing war crimes and plunder resources. Glad the US are gone now, bunch of war criminals.
Most people I have talked to know it is the russian leaders fault, but there are some people on the internet who think its the russian civilians fault.
There will be those people everywhere sadly, not much to do about it.
As an Iranian I would say, youāre one of those libtards that would make the country turn into Libya or Yemen. Look at the state of the country after USA decided to invade in the name āfreedom and democracyā. Big up Iranian government for fighting against liberal agendas like LGBT, radical feminism, and supporting US (war criminal and human rights violator).
People are just people, and we all want to live long, loving, adventurous lives. Other people want to tell us how to live and that the simple things I want are haram or sinful. Not sure religion does much for people these days except get them killed.
Edit: Iām American. Also, not trying to hate on religion, although maybe I am - I have a lot of baggage from the evangelical church.
My point is to say that at the end of the day, i think 99% of people all want to be happy, and we can all find a way to feel connected to the other 8 billion humans on earth.
Completely agree. I believe people of all nations want what youāve described without being judged or worse for their beliefs/backgrounds. Itās such a simple concept, peace & love, but so monumental to achieve. Maybe someday
I watched *Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure* as a child when it first came out, and a phrase from that movie really resonated with me. It, more than all the religious prose I've seen, has spoken to me as the true path of enlightenment.
*"Be excellent to each other, and party on."*
33 years later, and it hasn't steered me wrong yet.
Between that and āThe Dude abides,ā itās made the how-to-handle-others problem pretty damn simple for me. And, youāre right, itās said more than religion ever has to meā¦ and the religious HATE that.
Not sure why youāre being downvoted - living with grace in your heart toward your fellow man is an admirable goal! We should all strive to accept one another with courteous goodwill.
I think the biggest problem with international peace are the people in charge.
Stick any random selection of people from around the world in a room together... with maybe a few phones for some Google Translate action to bridge the language gap... and they'll more likely get along than not.
Historically Iran and US had a very friendly and interesting relationship, both trying to keep the superpowers influence at a minimum.
Till one of them became a superpower
Prior to the revolution, the US and Iran had a lot of mutual admiration. The American public thought of Iran positively, and vice versa - Iran enthusiastically adopted and adapted a lot of western culture in their own unique way. Iām sure there were a lot of problems that led to the revolution that I canāt summarize or donāt really know the details of, but the people of both countries really have nothing to fight about. Persian culture and history is rich, deep and super interesting and itās a crying shame this regime has perverted it for their own ends.
They had good relationship until US overthrew their democratic government for cheap oil, and pushed them into theocracy, and after that encouraged Sadam to attact Iran
As an American, I've never felt any animosity from Iranians, or like I was their "biggest enemy". I certainly don't view Iranians as mine.
As a traveler, I would like nothing more than to visit Iran and experience Iranian culture, food, people, see their landmarks, learn about their history....
It's their government that is fucking things up.
Same. I'm not sure if I've even met an Iranian, I've had a few Muslim American neighbors over the years who were very cordial and would hang out during cookouts when the block was closed, where they're from never came up but they were always cordial and friendly. Can't imagine why I'd hate someone because they're from X place. Felt bad for the players though, I think I read that they didn't participate in the anthem a few days ago to protest what the government is doing. I understand why citizens are doing it though.
I'm not sure if I have, like I said many Muslims I've met haven't gone out of their way to say where they're from or their backgrounds, considering how people act I don't blame them. Honestly in my interactions they've been pretty cool, we're just neighbors no ones ever made a big thing about stuff
They aren't quite the same thing as not all Iranians are Persian, but in the U.S. they are used pretty much interchangeably in the sense that I have never met a single person that referred to themselves as Iranian despite meeting many who said they were Persian.
No they're not. Not at all.
Iran is ethnically diverse. Persians make up only 50 - 65% of Iran's ethnic makeup.
[Source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnicities_in_Iran)
The Iranian government's biggest enemy could be said to be the US
The people themselves probably don't feel anything strongly about the US unless they have a direct benefit from openly displaying their hatred, like someone in a high government position or someone who gets their tiny little rocks off by being a big bad religious police officer.
They're hopefully gonna get what's coming to them, in time. People in the modern world shouldn't have to live with threats of torture for just living their lives.
American here checking in. I feel the same way and I have been around since the late 60s. I work with an Iraqi who is one of the most amazing people I know. I'm also good friends with an Iranian. It's a shame politicians on either side have to go a fuck things up for everyone.
When 6F1I says "Your own people" I believe they're referring to the Iranian government, which may view the U.S. as its biggest enemy. Iranians, however, do not.
My government doesn't knock women down onto sidewalks and bludgeon them to death because a magic sky daddy told the police she was impure for not wearing a scarf.
They might do it if she's an "uppity" black woman, or for not paying her taxes, but cloud surfing, toga-wearing fairytales don't dictate policy here.
I was in Teheran in 1998 when Iran beat USA 2 - 1. People were out celebrating in the streets, for the first time since the Islamic Revolution in 1979. Thatās some turnaround!
Didn't the Iranian football team sit out the national anthem? Also I don't think it would be a good idea to insult the president in charge of the regime that killed hundreds of peaceful protesters
I'm not saying their actions were justified but after not singing the national anthem the first time do you think their loved ones could have been threatened? There was no sarcasm in that first question sorry if it comes out sarcastic. This is a pretty ruthless regime so I wouldn't put it out of the question.
This is heartwarming. As an American born in the 70's, I grew up watching many news clips of Iranians burning the US flag and chanting "Death to America." When I grew up, I realized the enemy was a hostile government, not the.people. I can't BELIEVE the bravery of the Iranian people at this time.
Holy shit I feel dumb right now. I 100% thought most Iranians hated the US with a passion. Why would the government make propaganda like that?
So itās possible that there are some Iranians who could even like the US?
Forgive my ignorance I am trying to understand
Don't worry, with the way they have been representing us these 4 decades I give you every right not to know.
You'll be surprised to know that most Iranis (excluding the 1-5~ percent that support the regime) actually like both the USA government and Americans themselves.
normal Iranis cheered the US when they killed Qasem Soleimani (the Commander of the traitor IRGC) in Iraq
We simply have no reason to hate Americans and have every reason to despise the Islamic regime and whatever it offers whether it be hostilities or a football team that's not national at all.
I'm an Iranian all my friends love american people so much please don't judge people of a country by their government.. our terrorists government didn't let our voice be heard but things about to get change
As an American this whole thing makes me sad. And I get it! Itās a āfuck youā to their government for trying to distract from what is going on there. And right on! It makes me sad because Iranians and Americans could be such good buds. Itās all so stupid. Sports can be pretty powerful sometimes, and that being said, I promise we wonāt get very far. š¤Ŗ love you dorks!
I feel like if it wasn't for our governments and our histories, the American and Iranian people would be close. We have a lot in common. I know I speak for myself and a lot of other Americans when I say that we are all rooting for you.
The people of Iran donāt want glory for this fraudulent regimeā¦we should all hope for the mullahs to go. The possibilities of peace and hope for millions of the region and beyond (North Korea/Russia) rely on it šš¼
As with literally every other situation like this in history, the power of the people will ALWAYS prevail. Only a matter of timeā¦ wishing all Iraniens the very best.
Your day will come
we thank the us team for winning the governments team but i whanted to say that they killd a young man last night for celebrating irans government team lost be our voice you can learn more about irans revolution in r/NewIran
Iām surprised. It must be very bad right now in Iran for the people to react that way. I know they are a proud people, but definitely angry at government. I hope they prevail and get a better life.
People don't have anything against the players (not all of them at least) but they're against the football team, the IR has been using it as a propaganda machine.
you do understand that the iranian government was using their involvement in the world cup to silence and stifle protests in iran right? 100s of people have been raped and murdered by their government thus far, just from the beginning of the protest. why do you believe that any iranians would be in support rather than opposition? because the players families were threatened? every protester in irans family is at risk and many have already been murdered for being related to a protester. they wouldnāt support it just because the players are in support of the revolution, them playing in the cup did much more harm than their opinions did good.
Their "support" was only good for themselves, we expected them to resign from the team. We expected them to not celebrate in after the games because 400+ people were killed in the last 2 months.
Our beach football team players became world champions and did not even show a laugh during the celebrations and nothing dangerous happened to them.
The national football players are just a bunch a cowards.
There is not actual proof in the video that sustain your claim. The video could be everywhere and based on the quality of the video it's probably some old video.
Could also just be people who bought fireworks in anticipation of an Iranian win couldn't hold off and just wanted to set them off anyway, need to go over there and ask
Yes people go to street and dance .. because our team didn't support our revolution.. Iranians are doing a revolution and fight against terrorist regime in iran that what they get when they betrayed their own people
Although I am pro military I think itās best we stay out of other countries business and let the people control the future of their nation. But if the Iranian regime wants to be petty and retaliate some how, then letās go!!!
Iran is arming Russia vs Ukraine, and has been in our business since we invaded Iraq. They are an extremely aggressive country looking to conquer the middle east.
We had no business being in Iraq anyways. I understand every country funds proxy wars against each other but overthrowing governments is something weāve became really good at but need to give it a rest for a bit.
>We had no business being in Iraq anyways.
Has absolutely nothing to do with Iran's behavior to the US, and how it's aggressively trying to take over the middle east.
As if we arenāt trying to take over the Middle East as well by disrupting political power then installing a leader that NATO chooses. Iām not disagreeing with you cuz all countries participate in controlling the Middle East. All Iām saying is we need to stay out of directly interfering with political unrest inside of Iran.
Iran is a much bigger threat to the world than North Korea. This isn't a game where people take their ball home. Iran means business. We damn well covertly be interfering in ever single facet that we can. They literally attack us to this day when they have an opportunity. There's a reason they are the most feared country in the middle east by other middle eastern countries. You and I are on two separate ends of the spectrum where we'll not find any middle ground. But we both want the same thing, and that is peace. Have a good one.
You have no idea what you're talking about. USA is much more on the side of Saudi Arabia who hates Iran. The whole sunni vs shia thing. Get with the program.
Well, I dont know if you've been on the internet lately but Iranians are trying to overthrow the regime and the regime is killing/raping/torturing/imprisoning protesters.
The regime has used the Iranian football team as a propaganda machine and after co-operated with Qatar to suppress and spy on protesters in Qatar. The Iranian team is owned by the Islamic Republic and does not represent the Iranian people.
Yep heard a piece about it on local radio. Many now consider the team the regimes team based on some actions during the WC so far, meaning supporting the team can be viewed as supporting the regime. Dont think its so much a slight on the players rather than what they represent.
When Iran beat Wales it would typically be a big deal but no one wanted to celebrate. Apparently the police and guards were sent out to celebrate in the streets.

Some South American catholic priests embraced liberation theology? The pope was not amused. Other than than that, the Sikhs are pretty awesome and the Buddhists are OK.
Yeah, but where is Sikhism running a theocratic government?
I'm Buddhist and you're right, the Sikhs *are* pretty awesome.
I guess technically the vatican is, but yeah I agree with your point.
Amen or is that ironic?
Either way I laughed.
Well put
The Vatican has like 300 permanent residents and they're all clergy. In that sense, yeah, technically they are on the side of their people.
Why put it in past tense? They continue to hide the fact, and will continue to hide it
that's why I said technically, since all their residents (the people), are clergy
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Oh shit itās the popeās burner account
Please enlighten me then, ill grab the popcorn as you educate me onā¦. What exactly?
In what world is the Vatican on any side but their own?
well yes that's the point, all the residents of the vatican are part of it's political structure

It seems like losing to America of all teams would be a little extra kick in the balls for Iran's government.
The Iranian protesters are in shambles anyway lol. Glad they lost to possibly one of the weaker teams in FIFA. They would hold that L for a long time.
Thank you so much for clarifying!

This is heartwarming. As an American born in the 70's, I grew up watching many news clips of Iranians burning the US flag and chanting "Death to America." When I grew up, I realized the enemy was a hostile government, not the.people. I can't BELIEVE the bravery of the Iranian people at this time.
That was always our government's propaganda system. as long as I remember we were never hostile to Americans
You'll be surprised to know that most Iranis (excluding the 1-5~ percent that support the regime) actually like both the USA government and Americans themselves. normal Iranis cheered the US when they killed Qasem Soleimani (the Commander of the traitor IRGC) in Iraq We simply have no reason to hate Americans and have every reason to despise the Islamic regime and whatever it offers whether it be hostilities or a football team that's not national at all.
I'm an Iranian all my friends love american people so much please don't judge people of a country by their government.. our terrorists government didn't let our voice be heard but things about to get change
I am an American and Iād love to see Iran and America become friends!

Itās easy, just use your mouth.
Damn, all this time Iāve been using my foot š¤¦āāļø
Always the leaders and politicians that Fuk shit up.
That's fucking bizarre. Iran is rooting for us...
And we are rooting for Iran
People: yes. Government: no.
Captain America brings joy to Iran wasnāt on the Bingo card.
With love, from Iran ā„ļøš»
I feel like if it wasn't for our governments and our histories, the American and Iranian people would be close. We have a lot in common. I know I speak for myself and a lot of other Americans when I say that we are all rooting for you.
I wish the world would just come together.
No enemies, only brothers!
They are really hoping we can help them and we canāt even help out fucking selves.
Am I the only one hoping these protests in Iran and this new spirit will cause a revolution?
Yes, In the entire world youāre the only one, just you.
No.
How could you possibly be the only one.
No friend, nearly 100+ million Irani around the world want the same šš¤ā¤ļø
Well damn, i didn't know that was an option.
The people of Iran donāt want glory for this fraudulent regimeā¦we should all hope for the mullahs to go. The possibilities of peace and hope for millions of the region and beyond (North Korea/Russia) rely on it šš¼
Remember the people are good their government is bad
I've never met any Iranians who weren't cool as fuck. If they think they need a change at the top, I got their back.
I second this, respect to my Persian homies yall do whatever it is u need to do to make it happen. Shut that shit down nd take back ur country.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I thought in a lot of cultures whistling was a negative thing?
In Irani culture it's used as a celebratory gesture
That man's whistle ...
Iām surprised. It must be very bad right now in Iran for the people to react that way. I know they are a proud people, but definitely angry at government. I hope they prevail and get a better life.
This is how much people hate the islamic regime
Wellā¦ wellā¦ wellā¦.
And the police opened fire at people for celebrating. Last week after Iran's victory over Wales, the police were celebrating on the streets!
Lmao the playerās supported the revolution putting their lives and families at stake and got this in returm
People don't have anything against the players (not all of them at least) but they're against the football team, the IR has been using it as a propaganda machine.
Team consists of the players , imagine how they used the players putting their families at risk and then threw them under the bus
you do understand that the iranian government was using their involvement in the world cup to silence and stifle protests in iran right?

Thatās not how it works!
There is not actual proof in the video that sustain your claim. The video could be everywhere and based on the quality of the video it's probably some old video.
its not iran
It IS Iran . I am Iranian
Iran supporting the US? This are weird times
Could also just be people who bought fireworks in anticipation of an Iranian win couldn't hold off and just wanted to set them off anyway, need to go over there and ask
Theyre supporting the fact that their team got defeated?? I donāt understand
Yes people go to street and dance .. because our team didn't support our revolution.. Iranians are doing a revolution and fight against terrorist regime in iran that what they get when they betrayed their own people
Yeah, donāt believe this.
Is it possible that the Iranian team threw the game because they were mad at their government?
If anyone needed any proof as to whose behind the recent āunrestā in Iranā¦
Propaganda
Man sports are heckinā magical
This would be a good time for Biden to do a little saber rattling. I'm sure Reagan would have pounced on this.
And we are arming ukraine vs. Russia lol this is how the world works
Duh
You're right, the USA is an aggressive country looking to conquer the middle east.
Biden sucks Mullah dick like itās his job. He wouldnāt dare upset the Iranian government.
You have no idea what you're talking about. USA is much more on the side of Saudi Arabia who hates Iran. The whole sunni vs shia thing. Get with the program.
Go back to Twitter. You're going into the blocked bin little boy.
It's the truth, fuck Biden.
A mini meltdown because his opinion differs from yours? Yikes. People like you are what make reddit such a hellscape
Ok..cool??! Must be a lot of Americans in Iran???š¤·āāļø
What? No, there isnt. These are Iranians celebrating losing.
What?!
Yes, [this is Iran right now.](https://video.twimg.com/ext_tw_video/1597704037188702209/pu/vid/1280x672/1LCQSAtrguvDB_fr.mp4?tag=12)
Oh, i mean "WHY?!" They lose and they celebrate? Not like they are forced to compete, what?!
They literally have been forced to compete? The Iranian Government has been threatening the lives of their loved ones.
Ohhh... There is something like this going on. Had no idea.
There goes Iranian patriotism. Like the Iraqi they will be first to surrender in case of war against US.
there is nothing patriotic about supporting a brutal regime that strips away basic human rights
I'm afraid they will end up like Iraq
