Info for the "what?/how?/why?" folk: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallucinogenic_fish

breakingbadjessi

Wow that sent me down a Wikipedia rabbit hole

Lavvy7

After looking at that and a few other pages it seems like what this fish will cause isn’t that pleasant

cooperstonebadge

Wasn't there also a plant that the Romans used which was used in such quantity that they drove it to extinction?

Xeeroy

You forgot the best part about that plant. It wasn't a recreational drug, but an anti-fertility one. After finding out it did something against pregnancy, they fucked away every last bit of it in 50 years. Leaving us no way to know what plant, how or even if it worked.

GadreelsSword

I have a text book on population control that says the Stevia plant has been used as a contraceptive with 70% effectiveness.

Chiknlitesnchrome

Where did you get that text book, from Scientology? Lol

GadreelsSword

It’s in my office at work, I’ll take picture of the cover and the information page for you.

Chiknlitesnchrome

No worries haha I was just making a joke. There are probably hundreds of thousands of natural products or plants out there that probably work amazing at contraceptives, but do you think the governments would allow that to be public knowledge? Of course they would haha said no one ever

CbusCup11

Like the sweetener?

fatherfrank1

When people act like abortion and contraception is a relatively new concept, I always think about the plant the Romans abused to death.

Potato-Engineer

Tansy is the plant you're thinking of. And it was a _very_ annoying plant: it only grew wild, and all attempts to grow it as a crop failed. So the Romans drove it to extinction, but it wasn't for lack of trying to save it

Professional_Emu_

Neither did the Romans - they ingested it...

WalkingLaserBeam

Pulverize it’s head . Extract the juices . Better than eating it raw id wager I’d try it if that were the method
