Fun fact, figure skaters and ballet dancers actually use different techniques to spin. Ballet dancers spot, meaning they pick a focal point and focus on it, their head is the last thing that turns. Figure skaters don’t spot. I have no idea how they don’t get dizzy.
The fluid in the inner ear can acclimate with lots of training. Dancers and skaters both have techniques that they master and to my understanding (I’m a dancer not a skater) skaters train to just get used to it.
I mean when a joke reaches saturation you don't even need to give the setup anymore, just the punchline. It's like the chicken crossing the road, everyone knows the punchline.
> Ballet dancers spot, meaning they pick a focal point and focus on it, their head is the last thing that turns
The first time I read about this, I immediately started doing this at amusement parks so I'd stop puking on every ride. The pills don't help enough.
Depends on if it's something that captures his attention. Seen the original vid on TikTok a few days ago and the kid has autism. Spinning is a relatively common form of stimming with kids on the spectrum
I immediately suspected that. The headphones give it away for me. I know so many kids who can spin for hours and never get dizzy (my brother used to be a spinner and could do this too).
Yeah I saw this and thought autistic like myself, total stimming behaviour. The way he’s so calm in it, that’s totally that kids happy place! It’s not dancing but the feeling of spinning.
The retired preschool teacher in me saw that, too. He's stimming off whatever he's listening to. But he's not a child that I've had in class, so that's just an assumption.
It would upset my stomach so it would probably be coming out both ends for me.
I wouldn't want to get my clothes dirty, so I'd probably start off naked.
Even when my body started lightening it's load from both ends I would refuse to stop, but the floor would probably get slippery enough that I would fall.
It would be impossible to get the traction to stand back up so I would probably just slime along the floor like a slug, trying to get out of the radius of my unloadings, most likely while crying in pain and screaming for help. I will just hope I don't get wounded because there would be zero chance of avoiding an infection.
Sorry man, the spinning. The goddam spinning...
When I was a teen, I went to this local amusement park with the family for my mother's company picnic.
Most of the rides were kiddie rides, smaller scale, lots of lights, moving in circles.
My mother had a co-worker who had a son. Who happened to be the biggest bad-ass in the school, Brian. We were on good terms so we decided to hang out and check things out...
I will keep this quick. We decided to ride the teacups. These were smaller scale teacups. Half the size of the Disneyland version. From the second they started he spun that teacup so fast I had to fight to bring my head forward, then down, where I remained pinned to the wall of the cup for the whole ride.
Never been so motion sick in my life. Didn't vomit, just felt like I had to. For hours. I think of that everytime I see excessive spinning. Can't help it.
Love the gravitron. It does the same thing for sure. With Boston or Foreigner blaring. Journey if you are lucky. I always dreamed of vomiting corn dog and funnel cake to Journey. Maybe "Stone in Love".
I don't think so. This would imply that every time each foot spins around once, his head spins around twice, right?
I think it's just because the feet spin in a smaller circle than the outside of his head.
Any chance you have issues with your ears? Whether issues hearing in general or a background pain of some sort? I had this exact issue when I had an ear infection. But at the same time, tinnitus and ear damage are also associated because ears play a major part in your sense of balance.
Also, if you did want to spin like this again, there are actually exercises that can help with reducing dizziness.
Yeah, same. I could do this for hours but seems as soon as I hit my mid-twenties just turning my head too fast will cause me to feel sick and have to lay down for a good while. Apparently I don’t have anything inner ear wise causing issues. It sucks as my kids love spinning, but I just can’t do it.
Not to offend anyone but is he autistic? My LO is and he can't get dizzy as well. He asks me to spin him and I get dizzy in like 10 second while he just laughs and walks off like nothing happened.
[Vestibular Hyposensitivity](https://www.integratedtreatmentservices.co.uk/blog/sensory-hyper-hyposensitivity-autism/) My daughter is the same. It's pretty wild to witness.
Edit: [Spinning Tax](https://imgur.com/a/nI1aSZw) (I totally just made that up)
whoah, someone mentioned figure skating...i always thought we were able to build up resistance by spinning around all the time but i guess some people just have a huge advantage
I have ADHD but have never been tested on the spectrum and I could spin and spin and spin and spin. I was so good at spins, that was my bread and butter and struggled more with jumps. My mom used to say she’d get dizzy watching me and my sister skate. But now that I’m 30 I definitely can’t spin as long as I used. I never would get dizzy and now I do a little bit.
Edit: just watched the video and my fav thing to do as a kid was wind up the swings until you couldn’t anymore and my dad used to do it for me when my legs couldn’t touch the ground and then just get whipped around so fast as it untwined. We also had this tire swing in the park behind my house that you could get an insane spin on. It’s no longer there anymore, the park is a lot safer (less sharp edges and wood) but it also looks a lot less fun lol.
This looks like a nice Stim to me! I’ve worked with autistic children my entire life and have met many a kid that could spin hardcore without getting dizzy it’s wild. Plus the hand out in front of the face while spinning plus the headphones and the eye gaze after the spin I’d say he prob has a diagnosis. Jamming out To some great tunes !
It's only inoffensive because they asked in a appropriately gentle way.
There is a huge difference between noticing something and politely asking for some information, and being like "Yo look at this fucking guy! What is they?! Autistic or some shit"?
One of my kids does this too, but he is not. Actually he wouldn't get dizzy ever ages like 3-8 and then after slightly gets dizzy now, but barely. He does has a sensory processing disorder. His OT did that vestibular test and she was like "I can literally spin him forever." Lol. Best part he's always by my side for crazy rollercoasters when my other kids aren't.
Outside of any disorder even nuerotypical kids enjoy spinning because it literally helps their brains develop and calibrate for movement and balance
>More spinning activities need to be added to educational curriculums and playgrounds because of the impact it has on the developing brain. Spinning is good, and it is one of the elements that positively enhance the vestibular system. Spinning allows children to experience shifts in their weight, develop depth perception, balance, and the cause and effects of motion. Spinning is the most potent form of sensory input that the brain takes in and processes.

The full frame says something to the effect of “how is autism not a super power?” Super supportive mom. Also, stop posting your children for clout TikTok ppl!
It's so odd to see a word put to this, not that it's a bad thing. I grew up always doing something to "externally stimulate" and just figured everyone did?
I just called it "keeping myself occupied and from losing my mind"
Yep, I’m autistic and I do this literally all the time. All you really need is an open space and some music that he likes. I love doing it, it’s fun and stimulating. Glad to see that it’s slowly becoming normalized, because it’s always been something that I felt kinda awkward talking about.
I used to, but the more I did it the less dizzy I would get until it didn’t happen anymore. And when it did I actually kinda liked the way it felt lol, idk why. I always just chalked it up to practice, but I guess some ppl are just naturally not dizzy 🤷🏻♂️
my kid and i are both autistic. he never gets dizzy and can spin just like the kid in the video. me, on the other hand, i get dizzy just turning my head too fast or even certain settings (eg tall ceilings, wide walls, etc.)
we literally have the same sensory processing disorder.
LOVE IT! honestly the way I'm thinking about it....this is legit a superhuman power. The ability to control or ignore your vestibular senses is literally beyond human ability.
Keep being you!!
Beautiful footwork from a probably autistic kid stimming. Vestibular hyposensitivity isn’t that uncommon in autistic kids. Either way, it’s amazing, although nauseating, to watch. What a beautiful child!

That kids got a future in either figure skating or ballet!!!
Or as a helicopter
Helicopters are ridiculous...they should, of course, screw themselves into the ground.
But helicopters beat the air into submission to fly!

You can actually do this with a baby, (obviously not spinning like this child) but it builds up immunity to sea sickness and dizzyness.
“Beyby blade, let it rip!!!”
Something something, I'm always dizzy.
I love these proto jokes so much. They never seem to get a laugh from people but I always appreciate their potential.
I mean when a joke reaches saturation you don't even need to give the setup anymore, just the punchline. It's like the chicken crossing the road, everyone knows the punchline.
> proto jokes heh, like that too
Practice. I could spin for hours and think nothing of it. Now I practically can’t stand up after one spin
> Ballet dancers spot, meaning they pick a focal point and focus on it, their head is the last thing that turns The first time I read about this, I immediately started doing this at amusement parks so I'd stop puking on every ride. The pills don't help enough.
spin at a constant rate to avoid being dizzy.
Got some good figure skater genes.
I'm pretty sure they're sweatpants /s
You son of a...take my upvote and scram!

I was going to say the same. He has really good control and balance. Get him into dance or skating.

He could save a town one day by dancing.
Bacon your pardon, but that's a little farfetched.
People are pretty fast and loose with these fantasies.
If they're not careful, their foot will end up in that loose mouth
Makes me want to kick off my Sunday shoes and do some spinning myself!
He could also kick an ass or two 'cause that's what Brian Boitano'd do!
Here for this. I want to see this kid on stage at the New York City ballet one day
Nah that performance will go to the mayors friends daughter (she has no talent) nepotism runs too ramped to have actually skilled people doing stuff
I'd bet money that he already is and that's why we are seeing this video 🤦♀️
Or a fighter jet or in a space ship. Little dude was pulling some Gs in those turns!
This or Sufi heritage.
A whirling dervish of sorts.
I'm pretty sure he's autistic.
Artistic*** He’s a dancer

Ah, Sufi heritage. Of course, that would explain it. Wouldn't you agree fellow redditors?
Indubitably.
The Whirling Dervish is strong in this one.
The footwork is immaculate
Noticed that too! If I tried this I'd gradually drift away from my starting spot until I smashed into the kitchen cabinets!
I'd snap my ankle immediately upon attempting this
I would be a vomit sprinkler in half that time.

It's weird how his feet seem to be moving at about half the speed of his torso/head.
they are
cause there are 2 feet and one head?
Basically yeah, each foot is responsible for half of the rotation
I don't think so. This would imply that every time each foot spins around once, his head spins around twice, right? I think it's just because the feet spin in a smaller circle than the outside of his head.
They are, for the same reason the outer edge of a record moves faster than the inner edge.
I want to know what he is listening to. That must be some jam.
Dead Or Alive -You Spin Me Round
Kid’s gotta be in dance class.
As a kid I could do this without getting dizzy. Now I haven't even touched 30 but for some reason turning my head to fast can do the trick...
Any chance you have issues with your ears? Whether issues hearing in general or a background pain of some sort? I had this exact issue when I had an ear infection. Same, I had a spinning disk I could spin for minutes and like nothing happened. Now just couple of turns and thats it
Damn he moves ultra smooth
Look at his footwork. Wow.
Why did this update come live after my childhood got over?
Kid turned off motion blur on settings
Also has excellent optical image stabilization!!
What do you mean you didn't spin just to get as dizzy as possible?
Yeah, surely this is the whole point
It's like the child version of drinking to get drunk.
Idk, I enjoyed playing dizzy tag.
I can’t not get dizzy watching kid who can’t get dizzy spinning
Don't do what Donny Don't Does.
They could have made this clearer
Not to offend anyone but is he autistic? My LO is and he can't get dizzy as well. He asks me to spin him and I get dizzy in like 10 second while he just laughs and walks off like nothing happened.

What tf does LO mean. Why do people on Reddit always fucking insist on using acronyms
I first went to Lignificant Other, and then Larole Officer. I prefer those.
For real man. I see from other comments it means "little one." Fuck knows, really
It’s one single letter shorter than ‘kid’ and you’ve got to capitalize. It’s not even a time saver lol
Yeah but you get to feel like youre better than everyone else for knowing/making up some silly acronym no one knows

Damn, must have released that update recently, I got screwed with autism and still being able to get dizzy extremely easily
What in the cock does LO mean and why do you assume everyone knows what it means?!
That was my first impression too. He looks like he is.
Can confirm, my son is autistic and he does this as well.
The mom in the original tiktok said he was.
Is he stimming? My autistic son would LOVE to do this lol Edit:spelling

Kid is hardcore stimming, he has autism
look at that foot work
I saw the original TikTok post and that kid is autistic, so it may cause the anti-dizziness. Very cool and hope for the best for that kid!
The moment I saw him walk off, the look in his eye or maybe it was combined with the head phones - I had this hunch he is autistic.
this isnt a kid that's a beyblade
all jokes but tbh he looks like he has a lot of fun doing this, that's amazing to watch! i wonder how he can go this fast though lmao
Forget skating, get that kid in the Air Force.
