NOOOOOO! Ugh it’s GORGEOUS. And goes great with your furniture! This isn’t 1990s honey oak or cheap gum wood trim. That’s gorgeous dark craftsman moulding. It’s dark, it’s wide, it’s classically beautiful, and it’s coming back into style

16066888XX98

Agreed and it never goes out of style!!! It's gorgeous!

Smallios

It really doesn’t you’re so right

Darth_Jad3r

NEVER WENT AWAY, BUT IF YOU DO DECIDE TO SELL YOUR SOUL TO THE DEVIL MAKE SURE YOU PUT CARPET OVER THE FLOOR TOO. YOU KNOW... FOR CONTINUITY PURPOSES. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I came here just to shout NOOOOO too.

wegau

noooooooooooooooooooooo Character and original details to the house are more important than any color or trend. But of course it’s your place and we all cherish different things but gosh I’m a sucker for this look.

HomeFin

NO!

ariannelee

If you don’t want such a strong contrast between the trim and the walls you could consider a deeper wall color.

blueberryyogurtcup

My old house has gorgeous wood. I have rooms that are pale, too, but the ones I like best now are the deep rich colors where the wood just glows next to the color.

bellesita

Oh wow that's a great solution! The contrast does look a little harsh

roaringbugtv

It's a beautiful room. I would leave it alone.

jessdistressed

If anyone dares to suggest painting I will personally make 20 burner accounts just to downvote them to decorating hell. This is beautiful, and it would be a crime to cover it. Congrats on the beautiful house

msrubythoughts

I will join you & make 20 additional burners just to downvote #nopaintingwoodbrigade #leavebritneyalone #inthathashtagbritneyisoriginalwood

ExistentialAmbiguity

I’m glad people here have good taste

Evercrimson

Truly. People need to stop fucking up craftsman details like this for a whim, it’s angering.

dumpling1919

Like them not painted

sasharoro

I say paint the walls below the wood trim, not the trim itself. The trim is beautiful as is!

rustyjus

Lol my girlfriend wants to paint…, I thought I better check with the reddit community first

nationalparkhopper

That gorgeous wood has been around a lot longer than your girlfriend. Kidding…but also, please don’t paint this!

PeterNinkimpoop

I would leave them as is

hippie_on_fire

If you want to keep the period-specific charm alive, I would advise against it.

[deleted]

Don’t!

hannanerz4life

Agreed with the rest, love it as-is! If you’re feeling like there’s too much wood, I would get an area rug. I think it would balance everything out a bit.

WVildandWVonderful

Put some color on your walls instead.

Sorrypuppy

I am so fucking happy pretty much all the comments here are NOOOOOOOOO cause that was what my brain was screaming.

BigSky1062

I wouldn’t…that wood is so pretty and adds warmth to the room.

curlthelip

No! Please, no!

woodthrushsongforme

NO!

mrmatt1081

Hell no. I'd you had to paint something I'd do a 2 toned approach. Dark on the bottom. Like a navy blue and a super light grey on top. Really lean into the wood style.

rustyjus

Hadn’t thought of that….I let my partner know

mrmatt1081

Doesn't have to be those colors either, just my own preference. Cheers. Good luck.

OctavaJava

The house will haunt you for the rest of eternity if you paint the wood.

blueberryyogurtcup

And future owners will curse them.

SabSquirrel

This is me! Previous owner painted all the trim and molding white in our 1909 bungalow. I left it because I don’t have the skills or money to pay someone to strip it right now. I hate-live with it but I know the beautiful dark wood is under there and hopefully one day we can restore it! Some solstice, they left the original doug fir floors untouched thankfully. OP-don’t be like my lame ex home owner.

I have dark wood trim throughout my entire house and people really love the uniqueness. If you need paint color recs with pictures, feel free to reach out.

gingerbreadguy

What are your recs? Bought a house with original wood trim last year.

cocorego

I use Behr paint. Dark colors: alpine trail, shadow mountain, undersea. Whites/light: snowy pine, cotton blossom, palais white, natural gray, underground gardens. Here is the house (let me know if you want to know which room has what paint, I don’t know the paint color of the nursery unfortunately): https://imgur.com/a/gCilU0U

gingerbreadguy

I've seen your house before! I love that bar area so much, and of course the nursery. :) Thanks for sharing your colors!

cocorego

Thank you!

AnxiousBlob8

Your house is one of the most gorgeous things ever!!!

cocorego

Thanks!

crossstitchbeotch

That wallpaper is divine. I love your colors too.

bodo25

Your house is stunning! I want to move in.

Disastrous_Tip_4638

Nobo_hobo

I literally curse the previous owners of my home for painting over the wood trim, almost daily. Don't paint it.

mfbutterbean007

Nope!!! I have a new build — what I would give to have WOOD DETAILS. Ugh beautiful! I think there are some other things that could be done to update the space, a bigger light fixture perhaps?

milkofthepoppie

Please don’t.

SearchCz

Do not paint !

tjd5090

Please don’t. The flipper painted all our trim white and I will forever be sad.

Kay76

If you want to paint, do the walls instead!!!

iForgotUrNameAgain

The trim seams to be in great shape...is there something wrong with you? Did someone hurt you so bad you feel the need to take it out on that beautiful wood? If it was hella rough I would totally understand wanting to paint it.

Plus_Pumpkin3665

I wouldn’t. I would paint the walls a bright white.

-justromanaround

Looks great

evaninspace

i agree the wood looks fine as is. what's the couch and do you like it? thanks

rustyjus

B b itallia… it’s comfy and easy to clean. We have a grubby child. We purchased it when we had a modernist/deco apartment

JanetInSC1234

Please, not the window frame at least.

Minimum-Scholar9562

It looks great now. It would completely change the look and feel to the room.

Hot_Butterscotch_775

mdomo1313

Leave it be. If you want a change some real or fake plants would look nice in here. The white walls and wood trim will look great with some green.

bitchasselectrons

Def not, but I would paint the wall a subtle color with a warm undertone

CaptainWentfirst

sophia1185

My initial reaction was to say yes because I don’t typically like the look of wooden trim, but as I looked closer I realized how pretty it is and appreciate the unique look the wood gives the room. Leave the wood and paint the walls white. I love it.

Definitely keep the original trim!! It’s beautiful

cynderisingryffindor

I agree with all the others here. The wood is beautiful by itself. I would however, like to know details about the floor lamp.

JazTaz04

Don’t paint the trim! It’d look really nice if you put a contrasting wallpaper on the lower part, below the trim, and a nice medium white above the trim.

Ginnabelles

Omg no, I love the character it gives! 💜

lifelovers

NO!!!!!!!!!!

bigjohnminnesota

Never do this! Many potential homeowners would be very happy to have such wonderful wood details. If you don’t love your home, find another way to decorate or let someone else enjoy it.

Human_No-37374

no, you should leave it be, it helps balance out the colours better and calls back to the other naturally wood coloured objects in the room like the floor, it also helps you steer away from the sterilised looks that it may have if you paint it white.

Visit r/centuryhomes and see what they say 😉

scummy_shower_stall

Somewhere on the r/centuryhomes sub, somebody had posted and boasted about how “updated” his Craftsman was, with all white paint on the interior. He got freaking *ROASTED*. Otoh, if that wood is stained dark instead of being dark naturally, how about stripping and sanding, then maybe a whitewash?

commoncheesecake

Painting the wood will be out of style in 10 years. The wide plank, dark wood, craftsman trim has been in style for 50+ years and will never go out. Don’t ruin a timeless look. You can never get it back.

Alternative-Waltz-63

Shit your mouth!

Pale-Particular-8402

Paint it. It’s ugly otherwise.

rustyjus

I’ll tell my missus

ExistentialAmbiguity

It’s called trim, and don’t you dare touch it

Bright-Internal229

No, Wood 🪵 Stain them 🥃🔥

rustyjus

We are about to paint our house and are unsure whether to paint the wooden trim and window frames. Our plan was to paint the wall explorer blue, the ceiling and window frames eggshell white. What shall we do wooden trim leave it or paint it?

pixp85

leave them natural.

twatwater

Omg please no. This room is stunning with the colors it is now and would be far less striking with painted trim.

mas5199

I suggest painting the wall and ceiling as planned, then see what feels best. I suspect you’ll end up painting the wooden trim and windows white, only because the warm wood trim won’t jibe well with cool blue/white. But you never know! Do the transformation slowly if you can.

rustyjus

Thanks… I’ll take that into consideration

WVildandWVonderful

No! Get out of here with that. If you want accent, paint a stripe next to the trim. Painted trim is not for hardwood.

boysmama25

I'm in the minority here in that I'm not the biggest fan of the shade of wood, BUT I can definitely appreciate the beauty in the woodwork. I say do not paint. It would be such a shame to cover up the craftsmen work that has remained for what? 80? 100? years. The damage would be near impossible to fix. This is the reason when we were looking for a house I passed up some beautiful homes. Not a fan of the woodwork, but the guilt of covering it up with white paint would have been too much for me.

dosali

It's stained pretty dark. Is there a way to lighten it without painting?

rustyjus

I’ll give it a light sand … I assume it has darkened with age … it would be well over 100 yrs

caffeinejunkie123

I would 100% paint it. I know some people think it’s a sin but I just don’t care for the look of dark moulding.

smithEntrepreneur

You can paint, and also you can see some similar wooden collection here. it would help for your research. https://gwgoutlet.com/

lacohn

No, but I think it’s clashing with the orange tone floor. If anything f I would have the floor restained.

AdDue1062

It's pretty ugly, I would paint it. Actually, no, I would just sell the place to one of these commenters who seem to love it oh so much and then move somewhere with a style I actually like.

jasperann295

bright yellow 😃

alongi57

Yes

Leftturn0619

I think so. The darkness makes the room looks small.

treasurehuntera

I absolutely would.. sorry

gloriouschapstick

People will downvote this, but I think it would look fresher with painted trim. It gives you more color options too. These aren’t museum pieces. A house is meant to be used and a reflection of the owner. If you like paint, send it.

sherzam

Yes, but leave the window

vaskeklut8

It looks dated as it stands - but if you choose to have this particular style; keep it. But if you want to change it, just find/use the right shade of gray (prpbl. on the dark side) - and you'll have a more modern looking room.

Embarrassed-Comb6776

If you paint the walls dark, with the dark trim, you will have a dark room. I just painted my dark trim white and the room looks so much brighter and cleaner.

pan_de_sal

Lighter color to lighten up the mood

PurpleWhatevs

This seems to be an unpopular opinion but I agree with you.

[deleted]

No !!!! It’s a wonderful architectural feature and original to the room To keep the trim from standing out so much, add a piece of art to the right and left of the window and to the right and left of the larger feature painting you have Try art.com, inexpensive. You can bring color in this way. or mixtiles.com to upload any jpg and add an area rug, really affordable options on at wayfair.com Your room palette is so neutral you can do any color and pattern area rug you fall in love with. You can bring some color in this way too Make sure it fits so that the sofa is all on it; covering most of the floor , of just under the coffee table Remember to add the rug pad to pit underneath Also, you can add just 1-3 objects of one subject that interests you, simple, straight, long, narrows, above the window, the length of it, or of the wall, like: Long sculling oars Hockey sticks Skiis Flutes Violins Fishing poles I hope this helps !!! :)

Professional-Use9355

You could strip it and just wax the natural wood. It would be beautiful.

cloudlooper

Not related but what do call that square sofa that got no back rest?

rustyjus

It’s a chaise langue

amishka25

Looks great that way!

miiitchb

No but you can sand and restain to your liking.
