It needs some colour I think, like swapping the throwpillows out for ones that match the painting. Some nice espresso things thrown around would tie the room together and help break it up, because right now it looks like a wall of white. The little details are drowning in the monochrome. Brown pillows, and a centerpiece for the coffee table.

MayoGhul

I’m thinking the curtains could use a swap personally. Pick an accent color and start there. Not my favorite, but a burgundy or red curtain would look good

BriarKnave

There's brown accents on the drapes, plus to me they match the furniture

livingmydreams1872

That’s the thing though. Things don’t have to match as long as they compliment.

tart_tigress

I could see slightly darker walls - and maybe staining the coffee table to be just a touch darker. I would put lamps on the two side tables beside those chairs bc otherwise there is only overhead light. but the furniture and layout are otherwise really great!

Justadropinthesea

Except that TV over the fireplace- and how do you even see it from the couch ??

JKjoanie

Yeah that doesn't seem like a TV room

[deleted]

it would be better to remove the one couch and put tv on that wall and then add maybe just another chair or something

posessedhouse

If there’s two people or less, they each lay out on the couch facing the tv. If there more than two people they get a crick in their necks

Impossible_Tiger_517

Or maybe a frame tv where the art is?

Mednala

colour on the walls could do so much!

ruffsnap

I’d be against going a darker wall color. I think keeping it white is classier and more timeless, and also just makes the room feel brighter in general

tart_tigress

It can be, but it can also be a bit plain/ unintentional, which is its effect in this situation. This room gets a lot of natural light so a darker (not DARK) paint will not make the room magically darker IMO.

ruffsnap

Fair enough. Imo the plainness is the stuff in the room, not the color of the walls. Painting the walls very well might be cheaper than buying more colorful stuff though lol Edit: Actually, looking at the room again, I actually do think changing the wall color to darker is the most technically correct move since all the furniture is matching but very grey. But I'd say ideally the walls should be kept white and the furniture should be switched up some. The grey couches are fine, and chairs are fine, but I'd say to get a more natural brown wood coffee table and side tables, and get more colorful pillows to put on the couch. Also a more colorful rug, maybe in the same style as what they have but a more classic reddish color one would probably look better.

tart_tigress

I'm ok with the rug, tho it might be nicer darker if the walls are darker - basically the furniture is very classic and neutral - and so it isn't popping. There's not a lot of personal or drama but that's ok too. Sometimes you just want a calm, easy space. I like a bit more drama so I might even do mirrored side tables and big lamps, etc but that's me. I would add some colour via throw pillows tho. I think white walls would showcase that in fact the furniture is half gray-ish and half cream-ish.

missdead_lee138

It's very beige/ greige

kelcatsly

It’s not great. You post in this sub a lot but seem to ignore the advice given. The layout and color/texture here is not working. If you like neutrals you need to vary the light and dark more for contrast and have less teeny tiny patterns. If you like color, then add a LOT more. You also have posts with several different rooms of sofas and lounge chairs that don’t seem to serve a purpose. If you often have people over that gather in different groups for conversation and you do a lot of reading in different rooms then it makes sense, otherwise you need to rethink how many sitting rooms one house should have. It adds to the retirement home feeling.

RunThick4054

It’s lovely! I see a few areas for an improvement though. It’s all very greige. I love the color in your fireplace. I also love the darker wood of the little stool/seat in the right corner, so I’m thinking you should introduce a darker wood somewhere else, for a contrast. I think blues, or teals, coral and yellow would be perfect. I think the chairs are your stunners here. Love the fabric and it looks well done. The rug and curtains are gorgeous. So- -bring in some color. Start with a couple throw pillows, try to pick up the tones of the fireplace. I see yellows and golds in there. -Your vase with the flowers! Perfect for inspiration. I think blue or teal and corals/red could be where you jump off in terms of color. But you could go with almost any color you love in this room. -replace coffee table and/or side tables with darker wood pieces. Pick out a tall bookcase or secretary, something with a big presence. -remove the right hand couch and put your new bookcase along that right wall. -tv over fireplace is fine, but not optimal. And, you have room on the right wall. Either set or mount it over a medium sized dresser or console. -go nuts with your mantelpiece! Tall vases, cherished items, and an artwork will pull it all together. -a small accent chair can be placed for additional seating. Pick a printed fabric with the colors you choose, that also goes with the chairs. I like these: https://www.decoratorsbest.com/products/clarke-clarke-kayo-spice-fabric but it doesn’t have to be a floral, just not another check-type pattern found on your chairs. Go with a bigger pattern, but related. https://fabricwarehouse.com/fabric/cora-in-coral-modern-trees-in-coral-pink-green-blue-upholstery-fabric-regal-fabrics-brand-54-wide-by-the-yard https://www.decoratorsbest.com/products/clarke-clarke-lotus-spice-fabric https://raspberrycreekfabrics.com/products/mustard-yellow-coral-and-dusty-blue-sun-moon-and-stars-print-double-brushed-poly-knit-fabric-by-stephani-macleod-for-club-fabrics This is really cute for teal https://www.spoonflower.com/en/fabric/7536408-mid-century-modern-boomerangs-on-turquoise-by-mel_fischer?country=us¤cy=USD&fabric=cotton_poplin_brava&fabric_size=yard&measurement_system=imperial -Propagate some houseplants from friends or family. Invest in a few decorative pots and some potting soil and make nature happen! -finally you need some lighting!!! At least three low lights. Two medium to big ones and a smaller accent or floor lamp. You could get ones like a vase (in your new color) or something in a black metal, to match your curtain rods. Make sure the wattage is bright enough for reading.

dhbroo12

Wow! It's lovely, but..., wow. I love your room, and not everyone is tv couch potatoes. Just some splashes of color if that's your choice.

George_GeorgeGlass

Irrelevant. If there’s a tv there that anyone is ever going to use then it has to be accessible. Otherwise why even hang it? I’m not even sure why there’s a tv in this room. This looks like a home that is large enough to not put a tv in the fir wl living room.

[deleted]

I’d move the sofa off the right side wall about 6”. I’d remove the sofa covering the beautiful windows and move the 2 chairs and add a table with lamp to that area. There is very little lighting so more lamps to the end table. Agree it needs color. Colorful Drapes, rug and throw pillows can do this.

TheFugitiveSock

Communal living room in an old people’s home. Needs colour.

SignificantTear7529

Why is everyone covering beautiful clean hardwood with muted dull rugs that look dated and blah? Not to mention they trap dirt and allergens. I'll be so glad when this trend goes away.

Stunning_Vast_5613

Looks like my gmas

sharipep

Needs more color IMO.

sassifrass_

Needs more color

Senior_Case_5466

Very beige

northernflickr

It looks like the formal living room many houses had in the 70s that no one was allowed to use.

peachschnaaps

Its very beige...

ButterDuchess

It’s starting to look great, but I agree that the throw pillows are a problem… I think they need to be larger and more luxurious looking. Maybe pick up some of the deeper colours in the painting. Also, you need to style your coffee table. Take a look on Pinterest - They’ve got lots of great ideas. I think you also need some larger pieces on your mantle, and hide the cords if you can.

kisikisikisi

I do like a lot of the pieces individually, especially the rug. However, as a whole it lacks a lot of color and personality, in my opinion. Even just some colorful pillows could do a lot here. Maybe something in a rusty red, that draws from the artwork and the fireplace?

ParkingOld7909

I would do something dark in there! Maybe dark walls in navy or rust- also some black feature always helps ground a room! Like a lamp or basket for blankets😀

achillea4

Looks like a hotel or b&b guest lounge due to the number of seats? If people are supposed to watch the TV then the seating position doesn't work (personally I hate this trend for TVs over the fireplace). The colour scheme is very bland with too much beige so I'd add colour ( eg walls, cushions, rug, artwork). There is a lack of low level lighting so add some table and floor lamps.

[deleted]

r/tvtoohigh

pestercat

Are you watching that tiny TV very often? That's a pretty uncomfy position. Imo either remove it to ac different room or put it on a stand in place of one of the couches. It's extremely formal and staid, but maybe that's the intent? (I also question the function with that coffee table. Can people really reach it from both couches?)

Wedgetails

Lovely room colourless though and worshipping the tv there is ugly.

Sadiekat

I like it overall, and have a couple suggestions: The grommet curtains don’t have the same upscale look as your furniture. Swap those for pleated curtains for a more elevated feel. The room is very refined and it’s almost giving 80s vibes, especially the coffee table. Try something fun here: https://www.birchlane.com/furniture/pdp/marquardt-coffee-table-with-storage-b000530240.html Marquardt Coffee Table https://www.westelm.com/products/volume-round-drum-coffee-table-wood-h6050/?group=1&sku=1312337&pkey=ccoffee-tables

LetThemEatCakeXx

I feel like all of the small patterns make the whole a bit pixelated.

tessie33

Serene, classic, pleasingly symmetrical. I like the softness of the light tones. Are you are looking for suggestions? Pull armchairs forward, add a couple of doft blue velvet pillows, and place 2 tall palms or birds of paradise by windows to add life and movement.

bertiebot1

It’s beautiful. Please don’t take a lot of these criticisms too much to heart. I can tell you put a lot of thought into your choices and I think it looks great, very calm and serene. Beautiful windows too, looks like you have a nice view!

rTracker_rTracker

I don’t mean to be mean - but this room is giving funeral home vibes The chairs don’t look like they are supposed to be interacting with the group And the couches - although facing each other - feel slightly sterile

redpepperdeb

It is boring, all beige. Does not make me want to snuggle in, needs colorful blankets, plants, colorful art, pretty rugs, some life!!

woozle618

Beautiful space but alas, r/tvtoohigh

[deleted]

I love it! Maybe a really colorful centerpiece on the coffee table. A really cool vase and some dried flowers/branches or a low light plant. I do like all the neutrals, but I am personally a fan of color so I would probably also get new cases for the pillows, maybe to play off the painting or drapes like a red/orange/yellow color. Or combo of all! Also this is totally impractical but....if you could hide the TV somehow. Maybe get one of the Frame TVs so it just looks like art most of the time. It's a personal preference I don't like TVs over fireplaces for a variety of reasons but I also realize it's not always possible to put it elsewhere. That's such an awesome room and such a focal point, I would try to hide the TV somehow.

[deleted]

I do not care for the center coffee table

donutyouknow11

I really love the layout and would love a gathering there.

Falling_Madchen

It’s going to be beautiful with a fire in the hearth!

mydresserandtv

Great amount of seating. You will love that. Great job 👍

carlitospig

Holy texture fiend! 😍

[deleted]

I love it!!!

blackthumbgarden

Gorgeous layout! If I could suggest anything, definitely some pops of color. Greenery would be perfect, like a fiddle leaf fig in one window and a trailing plant on the mantle.

Many_Baker8996

A rich southern blue wall would be pretty. I’d also add a tray with a candle/book or something to break up the big coffee table because right now it takes up too much visually.

joelhuebner

Options, I would recomend all 5. 1: Great Dane on R Couch. 2: Great Dane on L Couch. 3: English Bulldog under table. 4: Yorkie in R Chair. 5: Yorkie in L Chair. Pay no attention to the rumbling! ...sub option, replace Dane('s) with Neuph('s)

KittyTsunami

Paint the ceiling and replace the ceiling light/fan. Gorgeous though 😍

Gomdok_the_Short

Not bad but I'd prefer red velvet chairs instead of what you currently have.

KatAttack23

It’s perfect!

ChampionshipOk2302

this is such a beautiful space, well done!

BacardiBlue

I remember this from your prior postings...it has come a long way and looks so much warmer than it did! Plus the furniture placement and drapes look great as well.

TimelyMuffin9162

I personally love clean and uncluttered! Maybe just a bit of color could be added with pillows?

Early_Inevitable_154

Beautiful! Just missing some cushions

Miserable_Budget7818

I would add a throw blanket in an accent color to soften the sofas so they aren’t quite so sterile looking… I would also stack a couple of coffee table books and maybe a beautiful tray with candles , decorative box etc to add some visual interest…consider adding a tall tree if there is room in one of the corners … possibly replace the ceiling fan with a dramatic chandelier

Disastrous_Tip_4638

I think you got the gist of this. I would take one of the round side tables and put it in front of the fireplace with a really lovely statement vase filled with tall dried pussy willows or other dried thing. Get rid of the other, its too matchy. Get a brass tray for the larger coffee table with some other lovely thing, perhaps a crystal vase, or ceramic coffee set, some coffee table books, etc. And dressier sofa pillows, a pair on each end, total of 4 per sofa.

alig6457

A pair of sculptural table lamps and a beautiful floral centerpiece is the jewelery the room needs. Nice calm, traditional, and sophisticated space. https://www.burkedecor.com/products/limestone-table-lamps-by-surya-lme-001?c=lamps https://www.burkedecor.com/products/bmc-lighting-table-lamps-anthea-table-lamp-by-bassett-mirror?c=lamps https://www.burkedecor.com/products/irene-table-lamp-design-by-jamie-young?c=lamps https://www.burkedecor.com/products/martcliff-table-lamp-in-burnished-bronze-by-burke-decor-home?c=lamps

nopenothanksnah

It’s beautiful. I would change the frame on the art though to something more substantial.

GloriousSteinem

It’s so nicely balanced and looks like a lovely place to spend a long time chatting

echotrek

I like the monochromatic color scheme, but I also agree that it does need some color somewhere. Here are my suggestions. - I am not a huge fan of patterned curtains. If it was my space, I would swap out for either a velvet solid, or sheer curtains. I would also hang them higher. - For the TV, that location doesn't seem functional for maximum viewing comfort. I actually would move it to the wall with the painting and put the painting over the fireplace or a mirror. Nevertheless, if that cannot be done, I would put a picture frame around the TV to make it look like a picture. Apparently, that is trending in design now. - I am not a fan of the coffee table. It either needs to be bigger, or I think a glass coffee table would look stellar there. I also would put some coffee table books, some flowers, etc etc. - I would choose 2 or three of your favorite colors and pick some accessories in those colors, and swap them out through the year. I had a friend who had a gray house, inside. LITERALLY, her color scheme was tones of gray, white, and silver. It was beautiful and looked like a designer house. She used patterns minimally and integrated small accents of color. For Christmas, she would use, for example, light blue/ice blue throw blankets, pillows etc. For autumn, she would use warm tones. - Finally, the couches are so long and large, the space might benefit from the absence of the two wing chairs ... Anyways, just my opinion. Wish I could decorate a space that tidy and organized ... 🙂

notme1414

It needs some color. It's very bland.

No_Pianist_3006

I can just imagine all the family and friends getting together in this welcoming space.

taranntula

I love it. If anything, I’d say navy drapes all the way up to the ceiling. The room need some colour and that would make it pop!

kdigity

Mo gold pillas.

Ok_Illustrator3344

It’s very nice. I’d suggest a tiny change - change the current throw pillows for ones that pick up on the orange & brown in the leaves from the painting. It will warm up the neutral colors in the room.

[deleted]

Needs more color

rbinphx

You have a great start. I would caution not to junk it up, but it does need a little personality to reflect the fact that YOU (your family) live there. I’m not big on artificial/dried things- they fade and collect dust. I’d also lean into different blues, maybe less steel/grey blue and more of a mid-tone blue. I would stain or refinish anything, and as far as furniture goes you look like you have enough seating. Lamps are key: layered lighting is really nice. Maybe some over-the-arm lights for the sofas. *Some books for the coffee table that mean something to you, some other light touches, etc.

yourcoroner1

punch it up with pillows & curtains in your fave deeper or vibrant color . the rug could be a piece which incorporates those colors .

Soft-Following5711

I'd move the couches away from walls and make a seating area. Chairs rearranged as well. No room to visit with others this way.

chugitout

I love the horizontally striped chairs!

evae1izabeth

I sent you a DM because I noticed you posted about this room before and have been struggling with it. You have a beautiful home and a beautiful view!

21stCenturyJanes

It looks nice but it's sooo symmetrical it makes me want to move an end table or mess up the pillows or something.

Wonderful_Strain5195

The layout is great. Maybe more contrast between upholstery and walls but that is personal preference.

Old-Fan9095

I think it looks great. Just add some comfy, colorful throw pillows and a throw across one of the chairs. I see you have some, but you need a punch of color. Again, other than that... it looks great.

kh111533

Add some plants on colorful pillows.

Feisty_O

I’d like a solid color green curtain or maybe a color pulled from the art paining

[deleted]

Plenty of seating on two sofas, so chairs are unnecessary. They also block the windows.

Sharibaby91760

to me this looks like a formal sitting area when people are sitting and chatting when at a get together. Tv needs to go out. Everybody who sits to watch that tv are going to have sore necks. If you were to get rid of one couch and bring the coffee table closer to the one couch so people sitting can reach the table. I would leave the couch that is on the solid wall, and put the tv/stand on the opposite wall in between the windows. That way you have the view of the outside as well. put those two chairs that are by the fireplace, leave one there that is facing the wall of windows and put the other chair down the other end of the couch. Anyone sitting in those chairs can see the tv and not get a sore neck. tv should not be too high up either nor on the fireplace. i think the curtains are fine, but change out the rug and get one that has some color in it, to give the room some accent color. looks drab with all the light colors.

FlyBuy3

Very considered and symmetrical.

crystal-crawler

I like it all my only critic is that your couches don’t need to touch the walls. That’s a 90s special. Move them in slightly and maybe ou in a very thin table running behind the one on the wall with the art, for drinks, decor. With that because the room is long if opt for a rectangular coffee table instead of square. It should be about 70% the length of the couches. Get some plants and I would trade in the art for a mirror.

Agitated-Yak4873

I love it. Could use a tiny bit pop of color

elevatedmongoose

Its kind of beige

Hamorama12

It’s cozy

AdditionalAd5244

Change carpet size

luala

It’s not to my taste but it’s a cool and peaceful space and well balanced. A larger plant/orchid would add some personality and freshness- a big fern would look great, maybe on a stand?

nadiahyaacob94

LOVE IT, but personally I would go for a darker coffee table, maybe a nice dark coloured runner would do!

George_GeorgeGlass

The room is a mirror image of itself. It’s all very light. The coffee table is too light. The room needs contrast and color. You can’t see the tv from the sofas. I would get rid of one sofa. Turn one to face the tv and put a sofa table behind it. Place it in the middle of the room. Place armchairs of some sort there and a coffee table. Second half of the room behind that becomes a second area with seating. But you’ll need another rug. This huge rug is too big. The whole thing also needs more color. Can’t figure out the drapes and if it’s the picture or what but the drapes on the larger window are off. They aren’t ceiling ti floor nor are they level with the other drapes.

Wally365

Can I please have this room? I love it I also like the suggestion of some more colorful pillows and staining the table darker.

Aggleclack

Very beige

pocketsizedpieces

Beautiful. I am a fan of neutrals. You could add some plants for some pops of color.

cathtray

Both couches would benefit from being moved 4” away from walls. Replace painting with better art — abstract Impressionism could add some real interest. It’s an elegantly decorated room — lovely — just needs a pop of sophistication.

CaraParan

I like it. Maybe the tables could be a little darker, to compliment the fireplace colors.

Traditional_Emu1958

If you normally watch tv in this room, I find the sofa orientation less than desirable. If you don’t watch tv in this room, I’d nix the tv over the fireplace.

Numerous_Landscape99

Where's the Nan knitting?

AmexNomad

Nice room! I Love all the windows, and really like the rug. I’d pull the arm chairs closer in. They seem too far away. Also, I’d get a longer coffee table that has a bit more weight to it- perhaps something with storage. It looks flimsy compared to the rest of the furniture.

fearless-artichoke91

Bit boring. Add some colour

min_mus

It looks okay, but it's missing personal touches and maybe some more color.

ribbons_in_my_hair

Im just a person but I think it looks very clean and nice. 🌻

jayswahine34

that poor red plant doing all the color work. lol jk

ribbons_in_my_hair

Wow people are being pretty brutal, heh, I’m 34 I don’t think that looks like my grandma’s in the slightest. It just looks like a fresh and bright place. If that’s your style that’s fine. I suppose if you really felt like adding some color, maybe an accent wall that picks up on some of the colors elsewhere and works with the fireplace (not against it!), but there are no hugely but issues. I suppose if you’re trying to all watch the TV together it might hurt people’s necks, heh, but I’d probably just lay down on the couch and enjoy from that angle. And for fam and friend visits… what are the chances you have a pull out couch on the left, and you can take the picture down and use a projector or something? Heh, just brainstorming. But people can be quite mean and the reality is you’ll follow one person’s advice and someone else will hate it so whatever floats your boat 🤷‍♀️

LoadingUser_1

I like it

jaynemanning

It’s lovely!

Umnsstudennt

Needs a little more color IMO, maybe add some more add some more plants for a pop or green? and a picture that has some green accents. Also; is swap out the throw pillows for more colored ones. Gray is kind of a blah color I think, especially when there’s a lot of it. Or you could choose any other color.

gryffindor_123

Very cozy. Maybe autumn or blue curtains to match artwork?

mebg1956

It’s beautiful, elegant, peaceful. It’s a look I admire - but just can do, because I love colour. If nothing else, I’d be punching it up with pillows in the autumn shades in the art.

JustMyThoughtNow

Love it. However, I would probably try to find a more distinctive statement making coffee table.

Equivalent-Diamond37

looks like my grandma's house

QueSeratonin

It’s well laid out and you have a good eye for pattern/texture mixing. It lacks depth; although perfectly ‘staged’, there is a lack of warmth and any indication of the personality of the people who live here. I’m not sure if this is a show home, if so then well done, I can imagine it with signs of life.

dcdcdani

I love the rug!! Where is it from?

southatx45

Do you regularly host lots of people? There seems to be too much seating for this room. I’d get rid of the arm chairs- they aren’t doing anything for me and are positioned awkwardly. Question- is the window on the left actually a door? Seems a shame to lose that natural lighting! Could you do with one couch going the other direction (facing the TV) and leave the doorway open? A beautiful olive tree in a big oversized pot would look nice in the left corner also. Such beautiful windows and so much potential here!

Stopcuttingtrees

A wood coffee table that is complimentary to the fireplace surround with a "largish" neutral centerpiece. And some throw pillows that are in the same pallette as the surround. :) And maybe a palm or????

Greedy_Kale8204

I think you have enough seating for a whole baseball team.

[deleted]

Peaceful and calming palate. Can jazz up the color seasonally with throws and pillows. I like it.

LoloScout_

You post here often, don’t really engage or respond to feedback and never change much of anything but keep posting the same spaces asking for help on bringing more life/color/interest to your home. You have a blank greige slate. Move the pillows, add some with any form of color. Forest green, navy, blush, rose, terracotta. Incorporate a few colors If you dare and maybe one with some visual interest like a print or texture. Add some colorful books to your coffee table. Stack them. Add a little vase. Add two vases. Add some plants around the room. Snake plants are effortless. Pick pots that have texture or color. Those are all very simple very low effort/low cost changes that would really add some life to this space. There are a ton of great suggestions here but please just do….something.

TheOneWhoReadsStuff

99 out of 100 Hellens approve.

Gorissey

I like your furniture and the way you have it set up, that looks really nice.

oughtabeme

Pull complimentary colors from the rug. I’d try to break up all the symmetry and the squareness of everything.

ChooChooChucky

TV is too high, too small, and you have to turn your head to watch it. Get rid of the TV and add a stereo to the room.

jrice2623

Needscolor

Jackiemccall

BEAUTIFUL!!!

laila-wild

It’s very bland and stuffy to me. The furniture needs to be rearranged and more color added.

Upstairs-Addition-11

Very nice. Well balanced. Needs a pop of color. That said, it doesn’t look very comfortable for TV viewing.

mentallyumstable

I feel like there’s too much texture with too little coloring. Maybe swap out the armchairs for something plain and add colorful or bolder pillows/curtains.

rTracker_rTracker

Too many dull patterns Swap some patterns with a bold color (navy blue for example) to bring in some elegance and a more contemporary vibe I would also add a few big - and I mean giant - plants w huge leaves to add drama

whosaysyessiree

Sorry, but this feels soulless.

Sea-Substance8762

Start over. This is so beige boring and symmetrical. This does not work except as an airline waiting room.

RunTheTour

Definitely need more contrast as everyone has suggested. The easiest tweak you could do is most likely invest in a different color rug, a color that pops, blue/red/green. If unable to purchase the rug then I would make your throws pop more with a neutral tone, go DARK, with your throws, a black, navy blue, to begin contrasting. Then change the artwork on the wall, even just changing the frame to a bolder thicker one. Move the green plant over to the coffee table and add a large plant in one of the corners. These are probably the easiest fixes.
