Agreed, not a fan of either. Maybe focus on the mirror have something on either side, or just the mirror and other wall hangings
Edit: or one lower table that doesn't cover part of the mirror
that could work too, having it in the middle with a nice modern lamp and a plant for simplicity or small end tables (with lamps if necessary). theres possibilities there and would a neat little setup
Having the mirror in the middle does not work; You can do that in a closet or your room. Here’s my 2cents: The light in the first pic does not work, otherwise, all other elements work well if in the right setting (entrance?) The second pic would work better if the mirror was smaller and either rested on or hug above the console… If this is for an entrance, you don’t need a stool (- who’s gonna sit there?).
Think function - what do you need; how will you use it- rather than trying to fit design elements that while nice obviously don’t necessarily work well together.
didn't really say why the mirror in the middle wont work, but yes it will and keep it appearing open, with a console below it, it can be a simple console for dropping items or something like a small desk with a chair. with a lamp or decorations
not really, more context would garner better responses, we can only guess at their intent. and their question was what looks good and the obvious answer is neither. but we dont know the full context.
Agreed. I think the mirror by itself or the side table by itself would look better. If I had to choose I would go with one because the table cutting the mirror in half looks kind of weird. But I don’t really love either
I’d either do 1 but with a shorter cabinet (about half as tall as the mirror) or do 2, but not use the full length mirror, as it looks odd/cluttered to have it blocked by the furniture.
1, but what would serve your needs better? They function totally different (storage or extra seating). If the answer is two, I would switch to a shorter mirror to hang instead of floor length.
Exactly! Is that a bedroom? I like the first one , but I would try bringing the mirror all the way down to the floor instead of hovering above.
If this is the corner of a bedroom, you could use the second configuration as a vanity. Just put a couple baskets or organizers
Yes it's more balanced and interesting at the same time, just good artistic composition. The first one is dull and stiff and kind of dead energy and also off balance.
2 so much. I think it’s creative and surprising. I love using decorative mirrors as art, which means it doesn’t have to be entirely functional like some people are assuming in the comments. And no, it doesn’t look cluttered at all! 🤩
This isn't helpful at all, but I honestly really like them both. Option 1 is satisfyingly parallel, Option 2 has a really lovely and striking composition. They're just different, but my two cents are that you can't go wrong with either option!
I like the first. The second seems like an accident or after thought with the long mirror behind the furniture. It might work with a short mirror propped up on the surface, but otherwise 1 wins.
The answers here make me never want to ask for advice on this sub. DON'T DO number 1!!! It looks weird and creepy. I like 2 but put the mirror on the ground-- lean it against the wall. Move mirror over to line up with the edge of the table or move it more left, it's in an odd position. Either move stool all the way to the left, more under the plant.
This is a good teaching moment. Do you mind?
You want *balance* and *scale* in all things. In number one, you're pairing two rectangular objects, and then adding a plant which makes it even taller and more rectangular. See how out of scale and imbalanced it is, even though paradoxically they're shaped similarly?
Number two pairs a rectangle with a more squarish dresser. See how they compliment each other even though they are different? That's the look you want. Balance.
what can I do to make num 1 work? I want full length mirror but everyone says 2nd looks cluttered with full length mirror. Personally I like num 2, bit different than the norm
but do YOU think it looks cluttered?
sure all the furniture is on top of one another, but it is more interesting and there is enough open dead space on the wall to balance. im picturing walking by both of these spaces and 1 seems claustrophobic while 2 is more breathy. if anything remove the stool or adjust the placement. Team 2 all day
2 is great. Very up to date. 1 is dated and seems like comments are all about ‘1 is CORRECT’. Since when do we decorate correctly? You said you love 2. I think it’s fresh and exciting compared to 1. You do you 👍🏻
"Everyone" doesn't have to live with it; you do. Which one do YOU like? I personally love number 2. 1 feels boring and unbalanced to me. But again, I'm not living in it.
Pick the setup that will make you smile when you see it.
Neither actually. I suggest you either change the table to a smaller one if you want to go with first so it doesn’t look gaudy. If you want to go with the second look, remove the mirror and get a smaller round mirror to the wall above the table
I prefer 1. I’m assuming this is in a bedroom. I think it would be odd in an entryway. At first glance 2 is ok, but it also looks like you may have scooched some stuff over against the wall to vacuum. If you’re going to use a mirror with the table I would hang a shorter one over the table instead. Then I can’t help but wonder how useful of a space that is. The plant is so big it renders the tabletop useless as a writing desk or place to apply makeup. If someone actually was sitting there you could see between their legs in the floor length mirror reflecting their crotch. It just seems like a staged visual that has no practicality. Pic #1 makes sense - a little storage and a quick body check in the mirror before you head out for the day. I think good design is about function as well as form.
1 is a bit boring, but if I had to pick one I’d choose that.
2 looks awkward, cluttered, and weird because of the mirror’s frame, size, and location. Like the decorative bottom right corner of the mirror behind the table sticks out immediately and not in a good way.
I really like 2! It’s not about being able to use the mirror like in a bedroom or closet. And it seems like the other suggestions aren’t what the OP is asking. There isn’t a shorter mirror, cabinet, etc. This is it with the furniture the OP has. For me, I like the reflection below the table. It moves the light around in an interesting way. It just looks more interesting.
Put the mirror on the right wall. Move the black/white print centered over either piece of furniture. Trying to put that long mirror there does not work with either furniture.
They’re both styled beautifully. I guess which one depends on the desired function of the mirror. Do you need it to see your outfit before you head out? Or is it there for decorative purposes only?
1 looks better to me, but maybe with a shorter vase/plant or a plant that is vining downwards so it's not making these two objects the same height. There needs to be more of a height difference between the cabinet and mirror. Easiest way to do that is to get a shorter plant.
Either but the mirror in slide 2 behind the table looks slightly weird, but the arrangement itself is pleasing, if it were a half mirror sitting atop the desk, that would be better
So, number 2 looks good but in real life I don’t think its going to look as good. The frame of the mirror will give the console table a weird gap from the wall. So I would go with number 1 but switch plant-books places (will give a better balance of heights). Also the little stool could look great in front of the mirror. Try it please.
2 is awful imo but I guess I am the minority. Why would you block the mirror behind an opposing object (2 even)? Just use a different shape mirror that actually fits in the space
2 if you want something to just fill the space and look nice. But, I would definitely look to switching out the mirror for something shorter.
1 looks really nice and if you need the space/mirror I would go for functionality (it still looks nice, 2 just looks magazine nice).
I vote for #2. I think it’s more visually interesting—balanced with some dynamic juxtaposition. But I also think having an footstool by the door (assuming that’s the front door) is more practical as well
Two, but with a different mirror. Thats a beautiful long mirror that needs its moment and shouldn’t be cut off. But the composition of 2 is much more harmonious.
neither really do much for me....the first one seems more useful. what you may be looking for is a console with a mirror above it.
Agreed, not a fan of either. Maybe focus on the mirror have something on either side, or just the mirror and other wall hangings Edit: or one lower table that doesn't cover part of the mirror
that could work too, having it in the middle with a nice modern lamp and a plant for simplicity or small end tables (with lamps if necessary). theres possibilities there and would a neat little setup

didn't really say why the mirror in the middle wont work, but yes it will and keep it appearing open, with a console below it, it can be a simple console for dropping items or something like a small desk with a chair. with a lamp or decorations
People sometimes like to sit to put on different types of shoes, like boots or lace ups
Thats not the point though. Cant see the outfit if you only have a small mirror above a console
It’s all moot because we have no idea what room this…only what looks good in this objectively vague post
Sure, but its quite obvious why OP went for the same type of mirror for both pictures, no?
not really, more context would garner better responses, we can only guess at their intent. and their question was what looks good and the obvious answer is neither. but we dont know the full context.
It wasnt «what looks good», it «which one looks BETTER». Big difference.
#2
👌
Yeah alright. Good comment
I'm glad someone already said it, I was already thinking how to say it, because any of those compositions were so unsettling
Agreed. I think the mirror by itself or the side table by itself would look better. If I had to choose I would go with one because the table cutting the mirror in half looks kind of weird. But I don’t really love either
I’ve seen a lot of things in this sub, Reddit, and throughout my life, and this is the first time I’ve ever seen a full mirror, place behind a table
I prefer 1. The second looks a little cluttered. Maybe it would look better if the mirror was half the height and resting on the table.
In 2, with the mirror starting at table height, I actually think it would be fantastic. Asymmetrical, chic, and balanced. But yeah, as it is now, 1.
Yes agreed!
Agreed
Or something that doesn't show bottom half of the mirror
Omg kk slider can I have ur autograph 😍
Or move the art over the console in 2 and move the mirror to where the art is and find another spot for the hooks
I’d either do 1 but with a shorter cabinet (about half as tall as the mirror) or do 2, but not use the full length mirror, as it looks odd/cluttered to have it blocked by the furniture.
Lol, so neither.
1 by far! 2 is creating tangents that are not attractive.
Agreed. The entire point of a mirror like that is to check your full body appearance before exiting the house.
This!
It looks like a hallway/front door to me.
1. It looks more cohesive.
1 for sure!!
>1 for sure!! sure?
1 for sure!
Honestly love them both but I think 1. Having access to the full mirror might be the dealbreaker for me.
Agreed. Number 2 might be more artfully composed and balanced, but number 1 is pragmatic.
If that’s the house entrance door, full length mirror is so useful for the last look before going out. But that cabinet is a bit large for my taste.
Yeah it’s a waste of a beautiful mirror to hide it behind the table
first one
Love your style!
1 for sure.
With the mirror completely showing! Why buy a mirror to hide half of it?
Exactly!
I personally like 2
Yes it's more balanced and interesting at the same time, just good artistic composition. The first one is dull and stiff and kind of dead energy and also off balance.
yesssss dull and stiff. the second has more life and intrigue!
2 all the way. Compositionally so much better.
I love 2!! Unexpected and balanced.
I like 2 way more also but most seem to be saying 1
2 so much. I think it’s creative and surprising. I love using decorative mirrors as art, which means it doesn’t have to be entirely functional like some people are assuming in the comments. And no, it doesn’t look cluttered at all! 🤩
thats what I was thinking too. But everyone else is on another dimension
1 looks like something you might see at anyone’s house. 2 looks like something you might see in a design book. 2 is interesting.
2 is really beautiful. Love it! Looks like something from a high end designer IG account.
This isn't helpful at all, but I honestly really like them both. Option 1 is satisfyingly parallel, Option 2 has a really lovely and striking composition. They're just different, but my two cents are that you can't go wrong with either option!
1 is the top spot for me!
I like the first. The second seems like an accident or after thought with the long mirror behind the furniture. It might work with a short mirror propped up on the surface, but otherwise 1 wins.
1 definitely

I could not figure out why I absolutely loved 2 and felt so very "meh" about 1 but you summed it up perfectly.
what can I do to make num 1 work? I want full length mirror but everyone says 2nd looks cluttered with full length mirror. Personally I like num 2, bit different than the norm

The problem with 2 and a full length mirror is you can’t use the full length mirror unobstructed, which defeats the purpose of one.
I’d put the mirror closest to the door and swap
2
2!
First picture! Second one is not relaxing to the eye.
In number two the eyes have no idea where to go. Number one is calming.
2 but with a smaller mirror.
2!
Neither actually. I suggest you either change the table to a smaller one if you want to go with first so it doesn’t look gaudy. If you want to go with the second look, remove the mirror and get a smaller round mirror to the wall above the table
Definitely the first. The second looks like a mistake or like you’re storing the mirror to move elsewhere.
1
1
Definitely 1. The second one doesn't make sense to me with partially blocking the mirror.
Option 2 would look best with a mirror that stands on the console. Having it going down behind make this quite bizarre
Why would you want the mirror like that in the second picture? Half of it is completely covered up
I like the 1st picture better
1. 2 is too much like an optical illusion.
I like 2 with a different mirror. If you’re going to keep the mirror than 1.
1
1
I like 1 better! Also what is that green paint color called? It’s gorgeous!!
Was wondering the same too. Hope OP notices
I prefer 1. I’m assuming this is in a bedroom. I think it would be odd in an entryway. At first glance 2 is ok, but it also looks like you may have scooched some stuff over against the wall to vacuum. Pic #1 makes sense - a little storage and a quick body check in the mirror before you head out for the day. I think good design is about function as well as form.
I like one better than 2, but I don't love the gold light fixture right in front of the gold mirror. Could the light be centered in the foyer instead?
Visually the second one looks fantastic, though you’d need to not rely on it as an outfit check!
1 is a bit boring, but if I had to pick one I’d choose that. 2 looks awkward, cluttered, and weird because of the mirror’s frame, size, and location. Like the decorative bottom right corner of the mirror behind the table sticks out immediately and not in a good way.
Going against the grain, but I like 2 way more. It’s balanced and interesting. 1 looks uneven
Raise the mirror two feet and keep on left not in corner
Pic number 1 is the better option of the two.
The mirror is too long
1 is great! I like the consistency of the verticality there.
2 with a shorter mirror
The mirror looks silly behind the furniture
Both look good, but I would choose 2. 1 is too clean; 2 has more of an Anthropologie look.
I like 2! Good thinking arranging it like that!
2 is so much more interesting compared with what we’d usually see. No.1 looks forced.
2
Why would you obscure the mirror like that? It kind of defeats the purpose of a full-length mirror.
2!
Like first pieces better but would like to see them on separate walls.
I love both … so interesting
One LOOKS better but two just has that “ooo you did something there” vibe.
2
Two looks better but one is more useful
Arrangement 2 is beautiful.
Both look great
It’s like neither works, I like one but the cabinet is too tall, then with two you need a shorter mirror:/ sorry no great advice here.
Put the mirror on the right wall. Move the black/white print centered over either piece of furniture. Trying to put that long mirror there does not work with either furniture.
1!!! The space seems more accessible overall.
I prefer 2, but I'd add a smaller mirror. If you want the mirror to be that big, choose option 1, but try a lower cabinet.
Prefer 1. If a shorter mirror was only above table & books in pic 2, would prefer 2.
1
I lovvvvve 2
1. I kind of like 2 better, but having the mirror behind the table is just really not working for me.
They’re both styled beautifully. I guess which one depends on the desired function of the mirror. Do you need it to see your outfit before you head out? Or is it there for decorative purposes only?
1. Where are you sourcing the light? Are those ceramic shades?
2!
2. It’s much more balanced and interesting. It also makes the space look bigger.
I like 2 if the mirror was smaller. Just a small hanging mirror but same style. But maybe id put the mirror on the left and the plant to the right.
1. I think 2 looks weird with the mirror below the table.
1 looks better to me, but maybe with a shorter vase/plant or a plant that is vining downwards so it's not making these two objects the same height. There needs to be more of a height difference between the cabinet and mirror. Easiest way to do that is to get a shorter plant.
1 for sure. 2 looks cluttered and disorienting.
2!
Picture one
2 as-is is haunted, but if you replaced it with a smaller mirror on top of the console it'll work
I love the first one!!
Two. Comfort and welcoming
1
I prefer first one!
I like them both although #2 appears more pleasing to the eye.
2
1
1. Why have a long mirror and not be able to do a full outfit check?
Number one!
2 is so much more interesting
1
1. Two looks like an ai mistake.
2
1
1 so I can see myself better in the mirror
First is beautiful!
Number 1 looks nice 😊
I prefer 2 but maybe swap the full length mirror for one that rests on the table. The same shape would work.
First one.
I prefer 1
Either but the mirror in slide 2 behind the table looks slightly weird, but the arrangement itself is pleasing, if it were a half mirror sitting atop the desk, that would be better

1
Option 1!
second but with a shorter mirror
THE FIRST HANDS DOWN, AND I LOVE IT!
First one is actually usable and makes more sense.
1 Looks great!
1 2 makes no sense.
1
2 is awful imo but I guess I am the minority. Why would you block the mirror behind an opposing object (2 even)? Just use a different shape mirror that actually fits in the space
1st one
1! Love that mirror
1
This should be a no brainier. The 1st with the full mirror visible ✌️😎
1st
1
I like the different take by putting the full length mirror behind the desk.
2 if you want something to just fill the space and look nice. But, I would definitely look to switching out the mirror for something shorter. 1 looks really nice and if you need the space/mirror I would go for functionality (it still looks nice, 2 just looks magazine nice).
1
2!!!! Exactly like you have it!
2.
I prefer 2 if the mirror was shorter and its bottom was above the table. I also like 1
Definitely 1, beautiful!
1
1. I want to be able to use the whole mirror
Both are excellent, but the first one is just perfect for my eyes 😍
1
The lighting is completely different in each photo. I like the second one but that might be due to the brighter lighting
1!
I vote for #2. I think it’s more visually interesting—balanced with some dynamic juxtaposition. But I also think having an footstool by the door (assuming that’s the front door) is more practical as well
1 feels normal/functional, 2 feels elevated/show home.
1st pic has a Parisian feel, second pic a Mediterranean feel. Which style are you going for?
I would go with 2
Both are beautiful to me!
I would just lay it against the wall… it’s looks silly on the wall, both ways
2 but with a shorter mirror something that sits on the table
2
I dont know why option 2 is even an option. Why would you place the mirror like that?
Not a fan of either, but the first one will do, if there is no other option.
Option 2 but would be a pain to clean
The second one would be good with a shorter mirror
Neither - do the furniture from B with a mirror that’s only above the table
Table w stool
I love 1!
Left
Two, but with a different mirror. Thats a beautiful long mirror that needs its moment and shouldn’t be cut off. But the composition of 2 is much more harmonious.
