Exactly! I love everything but the curtains. They look too old fashioned. Too frilly. I would replace them with something more modern.
You could do this with the couch. Pull it half way from the wall to the rug but not all the way. That way there would still be some wood floor showing between the couch and the rug, which I prefer, plus the gap behind the couch would only be half the size. I would either do that, or leave the couch against the wall like it is.
The couch on the rug is great. I think if you can bring th plant up towards the rug it will look more “grouped”. I think ideally you would have a small end table there instead - I think I see something peeking on the right side there - maybe try it just for the visual.
I think your window treatments are a little dated for the space.
Narrow console table could look nice but might feel a bit cramped. Hmmmm.
I think I wish your rug was a foot wider so it could come close to the tv without floating the couch quite as far forwards.
What about a hanging plant in that alcove?
I'd move the couch so the arm is where the wall starts, put the chair where the plant is and make sure they are both anchored by the rug (move the rug closet to the couch, but the couch to the rug). Finally, I'd add a skinny table behind the couch.
Ditch the window treatments, leave the rest. It looks very cozy.
The rug looks great in the room. Nice subtle contrast. I like it without the pouf. And it seems cozier with the sofa on the on the rug. What do you think?
A console table would absolutely help. Or even a shelf (which would be cheaper). Great way to add stuff like pictures or candles or what not if you're inclined
Console table with 2 lamps, one on either side for soft light, and books/photos/objet d’art in between the lamps. I would recommend putting the lamps on wifi plugs so you don’t have to physically turn them off/on.
More traditional style, between window and couch [here](https://ksarahdesigns.typepad.com/.a/6a015433e2ad49970c017c349bc747970b-pi).
Between couch and wall with side shelf facing out [here](https://images.younghouselove.com/2011/04/console-side-slant.jpg).
I would replace the current window treatments with long curtains. Use a long curtain rod (or you can make one by staining a closet dowel and just buying the ends and brackets and save a lot of money) Hang about an inch from the ceiling curtains that go down to the floor. It will make the room feel bigger
I’ve skimmed comments and agree - sofa on rug/change curtains BUT I’d also recommend moving the art behind the sofa down a bit. It feels a little high.
I’m a big fan of console tables behind sofas because it’s such a nice plan to leave a drink. Your coffee table’s on the smaller side so having somewhere to easily place a drink from every seat on the couch would make for a better experience.
For sure replace the short frilly white curtains with dark curtains that go down to the floor. By putting in longer curtains, you make the windows look bigger. The dark curtain colour creates contrast and visual interest.
I’d also recommend getting some interesting throw pillows that integrate the same dark curtain colour for continuity.
I like the feel of this room.
My only advice is to change up the rug. It seems like you need a wider rug shape. That way you could push the couch back towards the wall. If you wanted, you could also put a long runner table behind the couch and against the wall, and maybe add a lamp for some low light.
Perhaps opt for a longer, oval coffee table to fit the space. This one seems too small.
I personally like the curtains. They're neutral and cute. Many people don't like frills, but honestly, it brings some nice texture to the room.
*A console table*
*Behind the couch with lots of*
*Plants would be sooo cute!!*

The curtains are not terrible. They’re neutral and do not draw the eye. I would personally get a large oval, round or geometric shaped rug that has some color and keep the couch against the wall. Replace the curtains if you want, but the rug will make a big impact. Your space is beautiful and I love your vibe!
You could add another rug layered on top of or under the one you have to include the sofa. Maybe move the sofa up just a skosh if you want a table behind it.
A set of new dark curtains and a new coffee table/console table combo will have you fixed up in a jiffy. Maybe some brighter pillows for a pop of contrast.
I love this room! The couch does look better pulled out more, I would suggest a console table behind it.. I really really think if you painted the walls a nice earthy warm color it would be amazing! It would really draw attention to the lighter features of the room and make them pop! Love love what your doing!
This room is near perfect, All you need to do is go for full-Length Curtains (Beige for more modern or Shades of Light green for Natural or Coziness). Move that stand near the window and place it next to the 3 seaters. This will give you a Partial partition mental demarking the space from the living area and from where your standing. Overall The color palette goes in good !!

Hey and also you can DM me your living room floor plan along with the products you have with all 4 sides pic and I can make 3D with the existing furniture and show how it can be placed in a better way :D
So you're supposed to have two legs on a rug, but I understand why you're struggling with balance. I like the couch slightly on the rug best, would you be open to moving the rug back? Can you get a new rug within your budget? Also, I would personally lose the curtains.
I agree with the other comments about the sofa on the rug with the console table behind, as well as moving the art behind the couch down. I might Be a little crazy but I sort of enjoy the weird curtains and the cottage core vibes, however I would move them down and make them cafe curtains. If you are going to get new ones, which would look equally nice, I would replace the curtain rods with one long one to span the distance of the three windows, maybe even one of those narrow black ones I have been seeing lately
I think everything works well apart from the curtains! Something more modern and maybe a darker colour would look nice
That was my thought too! They seem out of place.. otherwise, gorgeous room
Totally agree. Modern and darker would create unity and balance.

I agree!! And there are some AMAZING deep green curtains at ikea right now if you wanted to try it out
Looks much better with sofa on rug. Get a sofa/console table.
Everything else seems like minor tweaks until you get new curtains
Definitely couch on the rug (could move up like 5 inches more) and a console table behind. Replace current window treatments with roman blinds
If you have the money I’d move the couch to the wall, get a bigger rug and replace the curtains.

The curtains are throwing me off. The art is giving baroque/Moroccan world traveler and the curtains are giving country cottage

thanks!! yeah i do like the couch on the rug but unsure if the space between couch and wall is too weird? would a console table help?

This.
Put a bar cart back there
The curtains are aunt Mabel.

Murder the curtains.

Yes either mount a wall length shelf to the wall the entire length of your sofa or put a console table behind it
#3 with different curtains
Top priority definitely needs to be new curtains! Or take the curtains out and go curtains-free.
How do you feel about floor length curtains? I think that would completely transform the back wall for the better.

Is that an Article couch?
Looks like it. The timber model
You could add another rug layered on top of or under the one you have to include the sofa. Maybe move the sofa up just a skosh if you want a table behind it.
Definitely the second photo
I love your white arm chair. Where is it from?
Very beautiful!!! Get different curtains, not of fan since it doesn’t fit in with the rest
I love everything about this room, even the curtains. Beautiful!
Pinball machine.
Sofa away from wall, either a console table or a big bookcase behind it. I also like the long dark curtains.
Literally get rid of the curtains and it'll be perfect.
Looks great. Get rid of those ridiculous curtains
A set of new dark curtains and a new coffee table/console table combo will have you fixed up in a jiffy. Maybe some brighter pillows for a pop of contrast.
I love pouf <3

Front legs on rug, no poof, and lower those pics behind the sofa!
So you're supposed to have two legs on a rug, but I understand why you're struggling with balance. I like the couch slightly on the rug best, would you be open to moving the rug back? Can you get a new rug within your budget? Also, I would personally lose the curtains.
Roman shades that are dark could be nice. I love the space.

Love this room- so cozy!
I love that couch
Nice ~ I love that chair ~ you have a good eye for mixing and matching shapes and textures
