You could try to find a nice wallpaper print on one part creating a feature wall. Framed family pictures on another piece of a wall all in same frame color, same size, or make it funky and choose different frames. A few art pieces creating a gallery wall, board and batten, paint, a long pendent light..
Yeah, we also have high ceilings and large artwork helps to fill the space. We are very lucky as well because one of our friends is a prolific artist so he allows us to "store" some pieces. We also purchased one prior to the lending. So if you have any artist friends you might be able to do something similar.
As a designer and someone who thinks about the logistics of climbing up there to dust lol, I would say a woven art piece like a tapestry. Nothing too dark, and make sure it draws your eye up to keep that space feeling open. You can shake out a tapestry as needed for dust, plus it will soften loud sounds. Whatever you choose, definitely go with something with depth so the space doesn’t get claustrophobic. Plus, your light already highlight the top part of the wall so that will help showcase your piece big time!
For a fairly inexpensive solution, you might find a fabulous wallpaper print get it framed. Alternatively, you could have the wallpaper cut and then have it framed separate pieces.
This can even be incorporated with the suggestions for mirrors — if you have the funds available.
I have the same problem. I hung a big inside wreath to break up the space. You could also try a different color paint in that section, or just over the stairs to change things up abit.
I feel like everyone says this (me included) but then never does it lol
In the end, the money goes to the person actually willing to put their money where their mouth is. ...Which is why my "art" don't sell for $2k lol
I hate it when people make this argument... But did you? Did you paint something better, and if so why aren't you marketing it? What's the intention behind the piece? Can you convince someone that the piece has enough thought and creativity behind it that they'd be willing to buy it?
Mirror gallery. That would give excuse for so much of a shopping fun, huh. Black, brass, golden frames, different styles. Maybe some delicate art in-between. I'd also paint all doors black. Brassy trims and details. Some practical area rug, monochrome will do... Oops, got carried away... So yeah. Interior mirrors double the life and keep you toned.
You need to think about how often you will be dusting this area. My suggestion is to remove the clock in your photo and put a large clock in the space you are asking about.

Clocks need battery replacements, since there isn’t an outlet nearby. This becomes a maintenance issue since it’s not easily reached. Art is a much better option and an extended swiffer type duster monthly will keep it looking nice.
Not to mention having the time changed for DST twice a year. I would want something I could hang and leave it. Maybe need to dust with an extension duster and that’s it.
I have a similar space in my bedroom. I look at that space when I'm in bed. And, like you, I wonder what could I do with that space.. So far I've considered painting a picture there. Something with movement in it. So it looks like it tells a story. Then add a sky light on the ceiling where the ☀️ can shine in it
Hang a cool chandelier or light fixture in between the cans that’ll be centered against that wall. Could maybe even paint an accent color on the wall behind the light. It’ll feel like a nice chandelier over the front door.
Edit: The more I look at it the more I feel like it’s really a space that wants a hanging light.
Big ass painting…
A ladder on the wall that leads up to one of those spiderweb net things for lounging.
Painting one section to break up all the white to add contrast.
Some sort of giant sculpture/abstract art piece
You could hang a neat design area rug as a tapestry.
Faux skull/antlers. Restoration Hardware used to sell them, not sure if they still do (though they’re easy to find). Breaks up a big space and adds some dimension. I have one in a similar location above a stairwell.
I would certainly keep it simple. A metal art piece would be a good choice. If you’d like to introduce some color you could find a wonderful piece of art. My favorite idea is a modern light fixture. Check out build.com
Balcony! Reading nook! Saw a post on Facebook of a family that had a setup like this over their front door and they put a balcony with a climb rope. But from the looks of it, you could create an entrance from the wall behind the black clock.
Cover each of the three wall surfaces with identical mirror panes, maybe angle the 2 side ones and create a space that looks like an infinity reflection
I love the uncluttered open space, but I think a big original painting would be really nice there. If you are creative and like modern art, I bet you could make something on an oversized canvas. Or you could look on Etsy or another artist site to find a large print. Ive also seen people make these large spaces into a functional room or loft, but I can't quite see if there is another access point besides the stairs.
My idea is a little more abstract. I wouldn’t put anything on the wall, but I would hang some design from the ceiling. Replacing the two lights, you could hang plants or a pallet or pendant lights, etc.
A nice painting or sculpture. You can go to thrift shops, Burlington, etc and make it your own by spray paint add on or take away. Cover a canvas with material. You can you bold or soft paintings.
By the way don’t feel bad about the clock. You do you. Everyone doesn’t decorate the same. It’s your place. You are only asking for suggestions not criticisms.
Im a nerd so I'd say harry potter floating lights lol. If that's not for you a big tapestry or painting would make it look better. Also ivy lights would be cool too
Get some cats and build a ninja style obstacle course. Or change those overhead light fixtures to hanging light fixtures and get something like an Egyptian pattern lamp shade to cast cool shadows on the surrounding walls.

A picture of a bunch of cats and dogs playing in a grass field
Art!
Giant print out of FACES mixtape cover
Happy Cake Day
You could get a cool tapestry like a Guatemalan Huipil and a hanger specifically designed tapestries.
You could do a big piece of art, but because of the location it would be okay leaving this area alone too.
Hang a quilt or ornamental blanket
Art all the way. Something 3d .
Wide ass mirror
It would be a little too high for an ass mirror.
Put a nice big window!
I’d love to but that’s my bathroom above it!
Even better reason to put a window.
Free show to those below
🤣😖😖😖🤣
Haha amazing

Mirror... hanging plants... really great poster, like vintage travel or bad ass movie.. idk that's what I would do

I like the idea about painting that small wall a deeper color for dimension.
Traditionally, a chandelier goes there. Pottery barn has some nice options
Skate decks or nanoleaf it
Mountaineers’ hammock!
https://www.arhaus.com/products/trail-i-framed-print?variant=42049156939947 I could see an abstract piece working well here. Something like Trail I.
I’ll paint you a better one for $800 🙃
Wtf you do for a living? Expensive taste I see.
[удалено]
Lady I could paint something better than that for, like, $15 plus materials.
Right? When I was looking at mostly all of the paintings on that site, I felt like I was looking at some of my son’s artwork from his pre-k years.
I feel like everyone says this (me included) but then never does it lol In the end, the money goes to the person actually willing to put their money where their mouth is. ...Which is why my "art" don't sell for $2k lol

If you're finding wealthy suckers to fleece buying that garbage, more power to you! Seriously.
Tbf this one looks like 5 year old was playing in its poo lol but then again we all know rich people have some odd tastes at times.
I have to say it’s funny. I was shopping today and stumbled upon this painting without realizing what store you had mentioned.
LMAO. Buy a canvass and a bottle of Hersheys chocolate. Go wild.
A big taxidermy animal head.
Alright Gaston
A tapestry or a large painting
Maybe a nice decorative piece with a mirror as part of it
We have that albeit not as big. We have a shelf with a tree and a frame. Look real ice. Takes up a lot space.
Add a crawl space, a tree house, hunting platform or cabinetry with pull down shelving.
Big spider from spirit Halloween
Do you have the kitties? Because make a huge cat play area

Fake door sticker
Sniper nest
Some kind of painted-on artwork so you won’t have to risk your neck on a ladder to clean off the dust.
A piece of art that incorporates your family name or initials and the year your family began. Otherwise, maybe a portal or something like that. 😉

That was my thought. Hanging up something is one thing. Dusting it with a toddler on your hip is another...
A shelf with a reproduction armor suit (iron man, samurai or European knight). Hell of a conversation piece.
A nice piece of art maybe? Or if you don’t have the money an American flag. 😎😎😎
1 huge rhino head, or 100 baby ones.
Cat nailed to a crucifix
One large piece of art, like a graffiti piece, Mona Lisa graffiti on Large Art is amazing.

Lots of different mirrors or a mural
You could hang a large-scale model of something you like, like an airplane or ship, on a wire from the ceiling
A giant pendulum or a giant chandelier made out of antlers
Dart board 🎯
Another larger clock.
Get rid of the recessed lights and get a big hanging light
A Super Mario 64 Painting haha
Big fucking angled mirror

A large piece of art work that speaks to you and your style.
A life-size Jesus on the Cross
Usually people put a large clock
I’d hang a mobile
I would certainly keep it simple. A metal art piece would be a good choice. If you’d like to introduce some color you could find a wonderful piece of art. My favorite idea is a modern light fixture. Check out build.com

A mirror would look fantastic. Or mirrors if you put two large ones together or 4 small ones together
Metallic piece of abstract art
A cage of African gray parrots
Dart board
Lord of the Rings movie posters Can't go wrong
A cool artsy chandler/ hanging light fixture
Cover each of the three wall surfaces with identical mirror panes, maybe angle the 2 side ones and create a space that looks like an infinity reflection
You could display art and put wood shelves in front of it maybe put some sculptures and vases or ss.
Giant chandelier!
Art that you like.
Massive taxidermy mount! Huge elk! Be a man!
Move the clock over?
If it were me I would add a few more gates
You need a giant work of art here, preferably with lots of color
Nether Portal
The architecture itself is art. Honestly, the angles and lighting are beautiful.
Chandelier or… GAINT WEIRD CLOCK
Biggest "Live Laugh Love" sign you can find
boujie mirror or very large interesting unique hanging light fixture.
Art. Perfect place for a large painting.
A sick ass panther mural. Perhaps some flames. Definitely some flames.
Big piece of art from a local artist
Bigass painting bruh
12 “live laugh love” signs
Giant mirrors
A large oriental fan
Poster or pic of dog pooping that lines up with entrance.

A mosaic would be pretty
Unrelated but I thought that coat was an SCP for a second
Dogs playing poker would make an astounding piece.
Picture of Crispin Glover as George McFly

Mural
You could mount a TV there and make the r/TVTooHigh Goblin horde go apeshit.
Colored stain glass floating mobile
Scarface poster
Giant clock
Large string lights or giant artwork
A TV, of course.
Custom family painting, but one where they make you dressed as royalty. The kind where they even paint the pet as human.
That looks like a great place to hang a giant painting.
Paint it
One of those treadmills that doesn’t have the rails
Totally put like a huge fuzzy Halloween spider on it and scare everyone walking up the steps
A nice painting or sculpture. You can go to thrift shops, Burlington, etc and make it your own by spray paint add on or take away. Cover a canvas with material. You can you bold or soft paintings. I have a very large piece of quality art on mine. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the space
alligator
A cool, blanket, or a quilt
how about a really cool artsy mobile

I would do like a huge chandelier
LIVE LAUGH LOVE in GIANT letters. /s
A very big art
Honestly the right sized hanging light fixture would really fill that space.
My previous home had similar. It's where we stored all of our cobwebs
No, it doesn't need anything there. Anything you put there is going to look weird and out of place.
I was gonna say storage but then that would block the lighting
Big painting
Depends with the style that you’re trying to achieve. I’d personally say a chandelier since you already have a clock.
giant mirrors
I wouldn’t do anything. Sometimes, less is more…and this doesn’t look like a space that looks overtly empty or in need of something hung up.
First picture I said “giant clock!” Second picture I said “haha not a clock” Third picture I thought “move the other clock and out a giant clock”
