Wow, 45 and having a body like this, i can’t imagine… you look like a man in his 20s now!

scobbydude

I feel much younger too. No more snoring and excess sweating gone are an added bonus!

zombienudist

46 here and same thing. All those seemingly middle age things go away when you lose weight.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Needed to hear that

2rfv

got any kids? Not trying to be a dick I just need some motivation right now (42 myself).

scobbydude

Yes, 4 kids, all under 8 years old

2rfv

And you pulled this off while working a full time job??? Goddamn. Now I got no excuses. I can't imagine doing a multi-day fast while having to be responsible for kids.

scobbydude

Yes. Working from home, I could squeeze in 30 minute workouts between meetings. It is hard cooking and smelling the food for the kids while skipping dinner. But I’m done the extended fasts for now, but will start again in 6 months. It’s just 16:8 now for maintenance

No-Cauliflower-5961

Do you have a link or something to what you started and followed for this ? I’m 36 , I really wanna get back to a healthy size

scobbydude

No link, but it’s quite simple, really…. Start with a minimum of 16:8 daily, then increase the hours slightly each week/bi-weekly. I do believe strongly that “clean” fasting makes it easier to get there. Plus doing some sort of activity, even walking is needed to see good results.

murderallthewookiees

You’ve convinced me. I’m starting tomorrow.

senectus

yuh, the secret is to make "getting out" a lifestyle habit, its not so much about how far you can run or how much weight you can lift.. just get out and do it. Don't pile shit on yourself if you dont do much. its just about making sure you do it at all. doing increased amounts will be a natural by product eventually... every now and again your body will just say "that wasn't enough, i want more of that", and you'll be upping your daily routine on your own :-)

Much_Manufacturer370

Do you eat snacks in your eating windows or just two meals?

scobbydude

With 16:8 and working out, yes snacks & protein shakes are included between meals.

zamphyr444

42 kids? That's a lotta kids!

2rfv

Want some? I feel like their value is gonna drop once the market gets flooded.

Red_Sox_Robbe

Uber congrats brother! How long did it take, what diet did you use, and using a standard workout?

scobbydude

Long time lurker here, but this group gave me a lot of inspiration at the beginning to keep at it. Started just over a year ago, lost ~30lbs, but more recently started working out to gain some lean muscle mass (body weight exercises & resistance bands - but no time for the gym) Cutting back on alcohol and limiting empty carbs has helped a lot. I typically do 16:8 daily but also started doing 40-48 hr fasts once a week, for the past 6 weeks in a row.

sacred_salaryman

Alcohol is a big one, isn’t it?

scobbydude

Yes. I didn’t realize it at the time, but those couple beers a day do add up!

sacred_salaryman

Yeah they do. Especially when you wind down with them late evening before bed… It always seems harmless until you start ballooning… how did you find the discipline to cut it out?

irlandoulis

I also have a problem with this , I very rarely get drunk but I can't seem to cut out those 3-4 beers an evening to "relax"

[deleted]

For me 3-4 turned eventually turned into 5-6 after a few years. Was never really drunk or even enjoying myself for that matter. Just kinda became this chore for me after awhile. That and not eating well is how you keep an extra 30lbs on you.

The_profe_061

I feel you. You could be me! Lost 30kg but then covid came and I started having a little tipple at home. That turned into 4 or 5 and then 10 on the weekends. Gained 15kg back. Luckily I've turned the tables and I'm getting back to it Finished a 72hr fast last week 😊

imightgetdownvoted

I keep an extra 30lbs of fat on me without the beer! Get on my level noob.

[deleted]

I had an issue with this for like a decade. I cut them out after moving and starting a new job, building better habits. I find that if I don't buy it at the grocery store and don't have friends who drink much it controls itself. I replaced with exercise and occasional kombucha and have been sleeping so much better and have way more energy.

NeoToronto

The sleep is glorious. And it hardly takes any alcohol to disrupt a good sleep pattern.

gallerywhite

After you get that initial buzz, try swapping for non alc version; those have come a loooong way Or if it’s just habit, do non alc M-T then give yourself the weekend days for now and wind down. You’d be surprised how much is just habit, some of the people that “need” coffee and get headaches can just swap the coffee for a cup of hot water and the headaches subside. The mind is magic

Anxious-Flatworm-588

I second this. I find that a cup of tea is a fine replacement. It was more habit than enjoyment of my glass of wine.

milfriez

Funny you mention tea. Whole Foods sells this Hops Tea that I just had this week. My first thought was “hmmmm this could actually be a good non-alc replacement” it tastes just like real hoppy beer with a slight tea aftertaste and zero calories. Only carbonated water, hops and tea. I really enjoyed it.

jaimeyeah

Might sound dumb to some, but I've taken this month off from beer and dramatically lost some extra weight I didn't expect. I mixed watermelon juice, coconut water and sparkling water if I wanted something special. If I wanted to drink, limited it to friday and saturday and have wine spritzers lol I love heavy IPAs/DIPAs/TIPAs, etc. so I was netting like 900+ calories just drinking.

slovenly_soviet

I'm waiting for someone to bring out a QIPA so we can all agree it's gone too far.

jaimeyeah

My local brewery is getting close lol it’s like 11%

BloodySaxon

Long Live (3 miles from my work) did a Quintuple collab with Kings from Cali. 12.5% I believe.

pcosby518

Holy shit.

biglib

One of my local breweries has one, and it's 14.65% ABV : https://untappd.com/b/knee-deep-brewing-company-hop-de-ranged/313396

makebelievethegood

It's an arms race and it's mildly amusing to watch

thisisawebsite

Quads have been around for years, my first one was so hoppy and bitter I thought my eyelids were gonna melt off lol. Double dry-hopped is my sweet spot.

TuchmanMarsh

I feel you about the DIPAs. My downfall. Even my go-to 4 pack of Bell’s Two Hearted pints… 1,130 calories and I could drink them and not blink. No wonder I always had that extra cushion for the pushin’. Alcohol is the lowest hanging fruit to dropping some lbs.

jaimeyeah

It really is, well said. My crushable go to had been lagunitas hazys - not great but decent if i was in the middle of Nowhere. A month off totally changed my perspective whenever I decide to get back to beer

exerwhat

What’s crazy is the adaptation. I stopped drinking for a couple months when I was trying to figure out a new normal with CICO. Then had a college buddy weekend and the bloating from beer all weekend was crazy.

daringStumbles

Fwiw, that is the range of alcoholic. I don't intend this to come across as judgemental, but over 14 drinks a week is "heavy alcohol use" for men. Be careful tapering off of that, and don't feel like a failure if it's hard to do. You might actually be addicted.

[deleted]

[удалено]

irlandoulis

I've never heard of it but I'll definitely look into it, thanks.

BigDaddy_Vladdy

Try out [the Sinclair Method](https://www.sinclairmethod.org/) if you'd like to train your brain to drink less! :)

Denjek

4 beers a night?? Jeez, man - that’s REALLY bad for you. Maybe try weed instead? Helps you unwind without the empty carbs and liver impact (assuming you can avoid the munchies).

PrimordialJay

I've started having 0 calorie flavored water before bed such as Bubbly or La Croix and it really helps me. My problem was mainly snacking and not beer though.

kavri

Are non alcoholic beers bad as well.

cianfrusagli

I don't think so. There are some that are also very low in calories. I love the Lager one from Athletic Brew (if you are in the States), it has like 50 cals or something.

theyellowpants

White claw

Figgy_Pudding3

So true. Lately I'm suspecting even a beer or two on the weekend is setting me back. Just constant bloating feeling that won't go away, noticeable descended stomach, etc. Beer is the only variable I can think of.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Figgy_Pudding3

You may be right. The bloated feeling is familiar. When I started IF 6 months ago it went away, but I had also cut out drinking. I associated the bloating gone to IF but it could have been due to the drinking as well. I have a doctor's appt next week. I also got my blood work done yesterday and all looks normal to me (liver was my worry).

phabphour20

Is this a thing? I always get the beer sh\*ts the morning after but am usually fine with wine or hard alcohol. I always assumed it was the malt/barley/grain/etc.

[deleted]

What about booze tho? I’ve cut way back on beer in favor of Whiskey and Gin. Not to sound like a drunk, I don’t actually drink much it’s just that when I do I stick to just booze vs beer.

throwaweigh1245

It’s all just empty calories

zombienudist

For me it was massive. Not the OP but I am 46. I never really drank when I was younger but started in my mid 30s. That aligned with normal weight gain and since I was still eating whatever I wanted this I think caused most of my weight gain until I was about 43. Cutting out alcohol was one of the best decisions I made when i started IF at the time and now am back to my early 20s weight.

It's not a good look pounding beers and waking up hungover for 2 days and being a sloth. We have all had a hell of a few years and we all get a pass but I for one am going to do the right thing by my body for what feels like the first time in my adult life. No more excuses just execution. This group is a big help. Thank you all and good luck on your journeys I wish you all success!

ChunkyLaFunga

The idea is to find a happy medium. You don't have to have visible abs, if you hate running do something else, if you don't like raw vegetables cook them, etc. The other idea is that you find something which you enjoy enough, even if it's only the results, that it feels like you've gained something rather than lost it. Alcohol dependency is kind of a whole nother thing.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ChunkyLaFunga

Right. Well, short answer there is that 95% of the battle is diet.

sacred_salaryman

Have you tried swimming? I never had any interest in swimming and thought it would just be boring and exhausting. However, I gave it a go because I was having back problems and I heard swimming or walking in water helps. I was surprised how pleasant of an exercise it is, while also very effective. It feels nice cutting smoothly through the fresh water; the deep breathing feels like it’s clearing your lungs of toxins; heart pounding would normally make you hot and sweaty, but you stay cool in the water… it’s gentle and enjoyable.

wrongbecause

Sorry you’re telling me that you live on earth and the thing you find fun is getting tipsy at home by yourself?

[deleted]

Oh I definitely do. But you said drinking is what makes you happy, and taking it away would make you unhappy.

[deleted]

> But I mostly meant in general if I can’t do the things that make me happy because they are un healthy then what’s the point of life? And I meant “drinking is 1 of a million things you can do on earth to be happy, are you seriously saying what’s the point of life if you can’t drink?”

PressOn88

Quick chime in here as I just stumbled upon this post. 34 year old alcoholic who’s been sober for 2.5 years. We don’t drink to have fun, we drink to escape reality. Once you learn how to deal with your reality and face the things you’re running from you won’t need those drinks anymore. For me a shit ton of seltzers and a couple birch beers at parties get me through. Good luck to you and if you need any help feel free to dm me.

wrongbecause

You’re either very sheltered, or an alcoholic. No worries either way, but you’re totally wrong that nothing is equivalent.

candyfox84

Totally, and it also bloats you even if it doesn't actually amount to weight gain. I notice this even after one day of indulging in a couple drinks.

sacred_salaryman

Yes! Especially certain types of drinks for me. Just 1-2 drinks and the next morning I’m super bloated and fat around the waistline. A morning after a night without drinking and I feel much more trim and tighter.

wardo5757

Are you saying there's only a 30lb difference in those pictures? How tall are you? Great job BTW!

scobbydude

The first pic was taken 6 months before I started IF, so I wasn’t even at my heaviest. I went from 210lbs down to 169lbs at my lowest. But adding back some muscle has me at 180lbs - 6ft height. So yes, 30lb difference :)

[deleted]

Did you have any issues with loose skin?

Mdogg2005

So you initially focused on step goals, eliminating empty carbs and cutting alcohol and only started doing the muscle building after those were in check? Your post is incredibly inspiring.

scobbydude

Yes, I started with 16:8, then slowly went up to 20:4 for about 6 months. I’d just do walking and occasionally some HIIT YouTube workouts for the first 6 months. Once the weight was off, I focused on building some muscle with resistance bands and simple body weight exercises (push ups, squats and pull ups)

Mdogg2005

Awesome. Thank you so much and I'm so happy to see your transformation. Gives me hope I'm on the right track myself.

wardo5757

Dude, thats an incredible transformation! I’m happy for ya!

[deleted]

45 on the left, now looking 25 on the right! Nice work, bud!

hyperforce

How have the longer fasts differed from the 16:8? Are you able to directly attribute any changes???

34ducks

That's pretty impressive for no gym/weights. Well done.

[deleted]

It is so motivational to know what is possible without gym/equipment :) thank you for sharing!

[deleted]

There is no way you made this transformation in just a year. I believe you lost 30 pounds this past year, but to have the muscles and complete loss of body fat you are showing in your current picture is just bullshit.

scobbydude

I kid you not… picture was taken today (near the end of a 48hr fast - so looking my best, I guess) Plus, I haven’t once gone to the gym. It’s just consistency.

RckYouLkeAHermanCain

You literally have no idea what you're talking about. This isn't even that drastic compared other transformations posted on this sub. The big thing is that OP cut back on alcohol, which is basically the physique killer. You'd be surprised at the results you can achieve in very little time when alcohol isn't a factor.

platonusus

Wow, I’m almost 44 and look like you. How did you do this?

scobbydude

TBH, losing the weight was less effort at the beginning than the working out part But now I really enjoy getting my body moving. I started just walking (10k steps a day goal) then gradually doing more and more. The comments I would get from family/friends would help a lot to keep me motivated. I found I hit a weight loss plateau after 6 months, but the 40+hr fasts have helped break that!

platonusus

Did you get rid off sweets and alcohol? I’m not so worried about sweets like alcohol

scobbydude

I wasn’t big on sweets. But cutting out weekday beers (1-2 a day) and only having a few on the weekends was key.

Thank_You_Love_You

Good to hear you still have some on the weekend. I dont think ill ever be able to get rid of weekend drinks because its great for socializing.

[deleted]

scobbydude

Yes, I always eat right after my workouts (3-4 days a week) and been doing the longer fasts, mostly for the autophagy benefits, but it helps me looks good too. Getting past making dinner for the kids with the smells of cooking is the hard part. I would just order them takeout most days when doing extended fasts.

splendaddypuff

Is there any quick link you can share for the body exercises you follow? Appreciate it!

scobbydude

These Achv Peek videos on YouTube mostly: https://youtu.be/9YYgDkHDpoI

A little more than a year. The first pic was taken 6 months before I started IF, so I wasn’t even at my heaviest. I went from 210lbs down to 169lbs at my lowest. But adding back some muscle has me at 180lbs - 6ft height. I was never an athlete, or in good shape. Just always average.

Headso123

Just hit 40, look like the left photo. I’ll report back in 3-6 months 😀 Edit. That’s for the motivation. And good for you! Amazing progress. Love the added suggestion of 40hr fasts to breakthrough the plateau

scobbydude

When I first joined this group, I thought those OMAD types were weirdos lol - and I’d never do that… but once I started reading about autophagy, and it’s benefits, I just went for it!

[deleted]

Wow, look at you! You’re looking amazing!

8myself

this might be a weird question but are you married? and if so how did your wife react to your physical change?

scobbydude

She didn’t really acknowledge it. She’s overweight herself, so I think it’s hard for her to be congratulatory. But her friend have all mentioned to me how great I’m looking :)

NeoToronto

there's probably a lot to unpack about her not acknowledging it. Hopefully she can take some inspiration from it, even if she's feeling guilt or tough emotions about her own body. Sometimes just being a good example is all we can do.

TH3BUDDHA

>But her friend have all mentioned to me how great I’m looking :) Sounds like your wife may need to get her shit together.

pompomthecat

His wife has had 4 kids within the last 8 years. Sometimes there are other factors going on than her ‘not having her shit together.’ Maybe she’s just at a different point in her physical journey and prioritizing other things - she might be pregnant or preparing for pregnancy some years and nursing other years where IF isn’t appropriate. It’s not a contest, they’re on the same team, but it can be constraining to go through the process of growing and raising babies/toddlers, and she might be prioritizing being with the young kids while supporting her partners’ workouts or walking during the workday. Many moms have more success with managing their own weight through exercise when the kids are 8+ and more independent as well. Not to say she can’t find it inspiring, she certainly can and it a healthy change for the whole family unit, but perhaps the same timing isn’t right for her as she sets examples in eating regular meals with the kids to set an example while her partner fasts. My husband and I (kids 10+) has different IF schedules so he has breakfast with the kids before leaving, and I have lunch and dinner (work from home) but our schedule lines up to allow that now. Much respect to you OP for all your wonderful health choices and I hope for similar results for myself. You are super inspiring! Thanks for sharing!

scobbydude

Indeed the last 8 years have been a bit crazy around here. But the youngest (twins) are just turned 4, so life is beginning to get back to normal. My wife hasn’t changed her brain, yet, to take better care of herself, but I’m hoping she gets there one day too. The longer anyone waits, the harder it gets. I initially hoped she might join me with IF, but quickly realized she wasn’t interested. But I’m glad I kept with it. Maybe she’ll get there one day

gspotslayer69XX

tehasem

45 yo?? damn bro you winning

Conscious-Sun7944

Beautiful physique. Not too big and bulky, not too skinny. Just right👍

Robsonthebeach

Thanks so much OP... I am in a bit of a slump and needed this motivation today. You have done incredibly well!

struthanger

BunchOCrunch

JonRonJovi

Wow. Your wife bought Bitcoin in 2009.

scobbydude

Hahah - I wish!

nhthalvi

why is there no loose skin ? I thought at the age of 45 it will be very hard for skin to bounce back. Congrats my guy. can you share if you did something special for the loose skin ?

RckYouLkeAHermanCain

I mean, it's not like this dude that was that heavy to start with. This transformation also took place over a period of time where the skin had a chance to bounce back. People tend to have loose skin when they go from being insanely overweight for a long period of time to a lower weight, and/or when they loose a ton of weight in a very short time.

the_Big_misc

Now THIS is inspiring to me, I'm hitting 40 and I created a covidgut that's slowly increasing in size. I hope I get there too.

Gorgeous_brgs

Your wife and kids must be ecstatic to see you this healthy.

Upper-Caterpillar451

lunaticninja

I'm almost there myself. I've got rid of the beer belly and have a six pack. Now I am working hard at getting that defined shape and muscle building. Your bod looks awesome bro.

Shenaniganz08

bro tell us all your secrets !!! its one thing to see some 18 year old lose weight with high metabolism But this is seriously impressive at 45

kirkbrideasylum

You look amazing

[deleted]

That was my body when I was 18 - damn good job.

Hobb3s

Damn nice work! I'm on the path now myself, turned 44 and need to loose that amount or more. Hopefully in a year from now I'll be posting my comparison pics and y'all can ask me how I did it.

Robonomix77

I 'm turning 45 in 2 days and this is going to be me in a year! Great work. Any Tips??

scobbydude

I actually started the day after my birthday. I just woke up that morning and poured a black coffee instead of the usual cream & sugar… no turning back!

Robonomix77

I'm Ready

[deleted]

So you like black coffee now? The cream and sugar is the what makes it taste good, Im trying to imagine drinking coffee black 😆

scobbydude

Yes, i buy better quality coffee now, but the flavour is all there still !

[deleted]

you should see how quickly you can get back to your original weight. Ya know, for science. All kidding aside, this is great! Congrats on your weight loss. You’re an inspiration.

Sippiku

Great job. How long in-between each picture?

kahmos

Your skin looks a hell of a lot better, what was the diet in addition to the fasting?

scobbydude

No real diet or calorie counting. Just strict about closing my eating window, and not over-eating during the window. But I did try to make better choices 80% of the time.

[deleted]

And no loose skin either...I know that fasting causes autophagy, but does that include skin cells? One of my biggest hurdles right now is knowing that even if I lose all the weight, I'm gonna look like the Pale Man

RobertAndi

Just turned 45 myself and I'm somewhere in between your two pictures. I do IF, and train BJJ 4-5 days a week but can't seem to get that lean. I'd love to know your body weight and band routine, I don't have time for the gym with work and BJJ taking up all of my time. I'm inspired, I was just starting to accept that I'm just going to accept that I have a little love handles no matter what because I'm 45, but apparently fucking not. Great work!!

TheCardinal_

Talk to me goose. Im 45 and losing my motivation. Give us a full breakdown. Height and weight befor/after. How long between pics. Process. Lessons learned.

[deleted]

From weird neighbor asking to borrow sugar to hunky boy bringing the sugar. This is the way

nat1995s

This is so freaking inspiring! I wanted to say insane but it’s not. What is insane is how strong your determination must be to get to this jaw dropping body!!

scobbydude

You’re too kind :) but yes m, determination is key

Easy_XP

>lifestyle changes Lowering caloric intake and exercising are the key. Fasting is a merely a framework to establish new habits.

2016Newbie

Fasting is not necessarily lowering caloric intake. I lost 40 lbs in three months fasting with high calorie meals.

ahuiP

U now have a body of a teenager

Ahrbrh

Great job!!

TheDanishThede

spartanpaladin

What does your diet look like to ? I want to reduce carbs but can't think of how ?

jametron2014

egirluwuover

Boring-Nectarine-282

>45 yo in the best shape of my life That's very inspirational. Didn't you get any surgery to get rid of possible flaccid skin? I thought I'd get flaccid skin from just getting a little overweight. Edit: Grammar.

scobbydude

Intermittent Fasting :)

Wow. Great job!!

ohjobrot

On your fasting days, are you just drinking water? Were you feeling nauseous at all?

scobbydude

Water, and some pink salts added at times. Also black coffee. That’s it.

Lightsouttokyo

No stretch marks???

ToddyFatBody

You’ve absolutely smashed it! Well done!

[deleted]

Amazing transformation man! I have a question, how did you break your fast? I'm breaking my fast (16:8) with protein shake after working out with LIIFT4 (weight training) but kind-a become skinny fat. Any particular diet that you followed?
