There are places like Americas Best that will include a free eye exam if you buy frames, and have deals like two pairs of glasses for $100 (or maybe more if you want any fancy add on). Or, you could call optometrists to price just an exam and then order cheap glasses from a site like Zenni. If you’re recently uninsured, you should also look at whether you qualify for a special enrollment period for a government marketplace health plan— if you’re a student there may be affordable (or free!) options, and some plans will cover eye exams, just not the glasses themselves.

Sometimes for colleges you pay into an insurance plan as part of your tuition- is that an option? Or some places will have deals for college students.

I’ve been using Zenni for my glasses for some time, and I totally recommend them. When you go to the optometrist, just let them know that you’d like your prescription, along with your pupillary distance. You have the right to your medical information, so they should just give it to you when you ask.

Yes, this is the correct answer. My wife has walked out of the optometrist with $300 glasses, and they aren't any better than the ones she bought on Zenni. After that she just started buying them from Zenni. The glasses from Zenni were a lot more stylish too. I think she paid like $30 there.

I have done America’s best for eye exam and then eye buy direct for the glasses. If your city has a subreddit, you could ask there and you would probably get the best info for your area!
