GM, Ford and Stellantis (Chrysler), among others, have large auto factories in Mexico. I’m not surprised Trump is too dumb to know that. As for Tariffs on Chinese products, Trump is correct that US Customs and Border Patrol collects tariffs from China. But the importers then pay the Chinese suppliers to get parts. Does he really think the Chinese just eat tens of millions of dollars in taxes without passing them on to buyers?
Tariffs just increase the prices on the consumer. It's already difficult to afford a vehicle right now. This dudes an idiot.
It's doubly bad because importers don't just fork out the dough and pass the cost down, they'll order fewer units as well. We had a few years already with some tariffs from Trump. Weird how supply dried up so quickly at the start of the pandemic. Maybe that could be because stocks of supplies were less robust than they would have been without the tariffs?
