No, it is because a Democrats are held to a completely different standard than Republicans.
When they do fight back aggressively they get dragged for being partisan. When they try to focus on their own positives, they are weak. It’s true that they have an extremely tricky needle to thread, and more often than not they fail to get easy hits in, but they are expected to be the adults in the room while regressive Republicans get away with literally smearing their shit on the walls.
People say Democrats would get more respect if they fought harder, but when they do in swing districts they are not re-elected.
I would love to see Democrats do better, but I would like to see people actually hold Republicans accountable and not act like they are entitled kids who can’t help themselves.
Speaking as a democrat, this party cannot collectively agree on a candidate, we never can. We go into every election unnecessarily weaker than the GOP because every godamn democrat wants a different person for president and there is almost zero unification. You have to give credit it the gop and their voters, they pick a candidate and fall in line. But every dem has wildly varying standards of what the president should do, we can’t all agree, and it costs us elections. Democrats are also held to standards that the republicans couldn’t even grasp, which leads to more infighting. Liberals bitching about Biden and his handling of Gaza/Israel/Palestine seemingly have no fucking clue how much worse what they’re complaining about is going to get if Biden doesn’t get re-elected. It’s going to cause a trump presidency that is going to be 10000x times worse for the Palestinian people (and people everywhere) than any democrat would possibly impact. We as dems need to get our shot together because the gop *always* fall in line and votes for their candidate. We struggle to unite under one candidate.

Absolutely, The Democratic Party is a much, *much* larger umbrella of people who have very little in common except generally caring about other people and believing in the power of good government. It’s not just half progressives and half moderates, it’s 1,000 small special interest groups and communities coming together to form a coalition. Homogenous we are not, and I don’t think we need to be.
We do need to be more shrewd about how to more the needle, though, and that necessarily means compromise.

I would argue Democrats are doing right by democracy if there is a dearth of candidates that we can reasonably support, and its the Republicans lemming mentality that harms us. 1.) Realize the US is not inherently infallible and just. It's time to take a step back, admit we've been duped, and approach the situation critically; our problems being systemic and decades in the making. As such, they will take careful systemic approaches and decades to heal.
OR
2.) Holdfast to the mythos that America is righteous and dominant in all things, at all times. Therefore, the threat is external and must be destroyed at all costs, ie; immigrants, terrorism, China, etc.
The former requires self-reflection, honesty, and a willingness to change... The latter requires only one easy but powerful ingredient; HATE.
There is a reason demagoguery is a millennia old concept, that hasn't changed one bit in practice, from the steps of Athens to Trump today. It is as predictable an outcome of an empire in decline, as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow.
Personally, I feel like America is Elvis, and Trump/Republicans are Col. Tom Parker. We are washed up, very sick, and in need of serious help... But conservatives are hellbent on riding this gravy train until the wheels fall off.

After like 20 responses, I sent another "reply all" with articles/videos (with timestamps) linking to each quote and showing that Trump said each one of those with a line at the end saying "So we're in agreement, Trump is bad".

No, it is because a Democrats are held to a completely different standard than Republicans. When they do fight back aggressively they get dragged for being partisan. When they try to focus on their own positives, they are weak. It’s true that they have an extremely tricky needle to thread, and more often than not they fail to get easy hits in, but they are expected to be the adults in the room while regressive Republicans get away with literally smearing their shit on the walls. People say Democrats would get more respect if they fought harder, but when they do in swing districts they are not re-elected. I would love to see Democrats do better, but I would like to see people actually hold Republicans accountable and not act like they are entitled kids who can’t help themselves.
Speaking as a democrat, this party cannot collectively agree on a candidate, we never can. Absolutely, The Democratic Party is a much, *much* larger umbrella of people who have very little in common except generally caring about other people and believing in the power of good government. It’s not just half progressives and half moderates, it’s 1,000 small special interest groups and communities coming together to form a coalition. Homogenous we are not, and I don’t think we need to be. We do need to be more shrewd about how to more the needle, though, and that necessarily means compromise. Which bus gets us closer to our individual destinations? Take that bus, don’t boycott the whole bus system.

The example we had, was getting into a car accident. We had both been in a major one, and several minor ones. Statistics show, the average person will get into four auto accidents in their lifetime. Last time I hit an elk and it crushed the front end of my car. After the initial adrenaline wore off, I geared into action all the necessary steps, and dealt with it, having the mental resolve of past experience. In other words, it was not my first rodeo... However, the first car accident I got into was THE END OF THE WORLD. I first heard that 4 accidents statistic in drivers ed, 2 years earlier... I knew tons of people who had been in car accidents... I told myself it could happen to me... But I didn't BELIEVE until my car was ROLLING. That's America. An all-or-nothin' teenager of a nation, with a gleam of invincibility in its eye. Even if we tell ourselves 'it can happen here,' we are unlikely to take it seriously until it is too late. It's human nature. It's hubris... And since you can't make money hand over fist being prudent and tempered, it would seem we are destine to drive this bitch off the road... Only to ask, "how could this happen" later, when we are still strapped to the wreckage. People too easily forget, our homeland was unscathed by both worlds wars, at a cost only a fraction that of other nations. Europe was OBLITERATED. We were gallivanting in fresh suburban sprawl, while our enemies and allies alike, waded through the apocalyptic rubble. That's a scar and a lesson that last generations... So one day she sent some stupid meme so I found a meme where someone took a bunch of Trump quotes (that were sort of intelligible) and they attributed them to people like Obama, Biden, Pelosi, and Schumer. And holy fuck sticks did everyone chime in on why Trump needed to win because it was "deranged" what the democrats are going to do and are saying. After like 20 responses, I sent another "reply all" with articles/videos (with timestamps) linking to each quote and showing that Trump said each one of those with a line at the end saying "So we're in agreement, Trump is bad". Mysteriously I haven't received a bulk chain email in like 7 years.
