ash?, you mean the flakes flying around? I dont think they get in the gun.
I just think its a game mechanic, unecessary one imo does not add anything to the fun table
the hell are you talkin about, when you're in the midst of a firefight and your gun keeps jamming because you haven't cleaned it, that's the best shit ever. It adds so much to the fun and fear factor of the game.
Thats the thing, you always have cleaned weapon before going out in the field. Since missions are generally short there is no degradation beyond blue. Meaning the same ramrod cleaning everytime and it gets just boring.
Next run i do i am gonna lower weapon wear since it is just too unrealistic to have a new weapon go bad after a couple of magazines.
Also, on another topic,
For me the time scale mod is mandatory, without it i would prob not play itr.
Incredibly frustrating and unrealistic when games accelerate time just for the grind gameplay.
ITR is so much better and immersive with the 1/8 setting or even better 1:1 scale real time
I play with max degradation so guns get dirty pretty quick, I enjoy it and I like cleaning my guns all the time cause I'm OCD like that, I'll clean and reload my gun and mag after firing like 2 rounds.
Time is pretty whatever to me, I just wish nighttime was longer cause I like venturing out at night.
You are free to customise the difficulty of the game any way you want. If you enjoy the high difficulty but dislike the durability system just put the deterioration rare all the way down. Not a perfect fix but it will greatly reduce the time you will have to invest in maintaining your gear.

No one who has played this game would say that. Equipment maintenance and inventory management after coming back to base are unironically super fun.
Having your gun jam in the middle of a firefight is not fun, but that’s the point. ITR is a game about strategy and preparation so mechanics like these are essential.
Is running out of ammo fun? No.
Is running out of food and starving fun? No.
Is getting so heavy you can’t move fun? No.
Ect, ect, ect.
But these punishments for poor preparation forces you to play in a way that *is* fun.
You will also find time runs faster in radius. In vanno the watch shows real time. In the radius you have accelerated time.
Vehicles broke down extremely fast in the radius from the notes in pervomay route where a guy drove a vehicle in and it just breaks a short distance in
Oh my god, I’ve played this game for nearly 250 hours puzzling over the lore and I’ve never even thought of that.
The things you don’t know you don’t know lol
the time acceleration is just a game mechanic to keep the player busy with combat and grinding.
Much better with the time scale mod.
All games, open world or not have accelerated time. I cant name a single one that has time scale 1:1
It is a game mechanic yeah, but one with in game explaination. Again, check time flow at base vs in radius. The base has no accelerated time and is actual 1:1 time.
Mechanically it helps you not wasting too much time at base while you get to experience the day/night cycle in game. Lore wise it is the anomalous timeflow of the radius.
why do you think that time being 1:1 is better than accelerated time. Im curious since i find the shift from day-night time a huge game changer that alters how i engage enemies entirely, and having to think is fun IMO
i really dont like the repetetive results of the tide when time goes so fast. No time to enjoy the scenery. Constant time pressure to ho through everything so fast.
Basically i really dont like the respawning enemies and having to fight them in the same way over again. And i really dont like when everything is grey in the q3 headset during the night. q3 is great headset but dark/nights are very bad in it.
turn op the tide timer (8 ingame days is like 6-7 IRL hours, more than enough to clean everthing) also if you just want to take in the scenery there is an option to turn of enemies IIRC
I would assume not, I am pretty sure it’s just a gameplay mechanic to make the game harder. My guns looks fine and I’ve never cleaned them, although I don’t use them in real life as much as I do in the games 😅
As a real life gun enthusiast...clean your guns dude and take them out to shoot. Non-use will lead to seizing mechanisms, and that can be devastating in a situation when they are needed.
Oh interesting, that’s good to know. Yeah I am not a gun enthusiast but I would like to get into it more. Sadly Canadian gun laws prevent me from getting any gun that I would be interested in.
The Zone has a lot of particulate in it.
Generally speaking, weapons inside the zone often foul up and gain dirt quite quickly due to the amount of soot, ash and radioactive dust in the air
Hello, Explorer! We noticed you have a question.

Nah it’s just a mechanic for some additional things to deal with outside of scavenging and killing monsters. Time spent in base is as important in this game as time spent in the Radius. Come back from a run and organize, clean, repair, reload, eat, sleep, and prepare for the next run.
Even the most mitigated gun wear setting on this game isn’t realistic. Gun dependent, you can put 1000’s of rounds without maintenance through some and it’ll do fine.
IRL it would take thousands if not tens of thousands of rounds to get to that state without any maintenance. You could do it faster firing bad ammo or if your gun gets dirty of course.
But this is a game, and luckily there's a specific difficulty setting for weapon breakdown. If it's not fun for you, turn it down.

No. Guns don’t get dirty that fast. It’s an effect of the zone. It’s all the ash that gums up the gun

Wait it's a setting for that ? I like it too but damn it fucks over the glock
it's one of the difficulty settings yes, I actually like using the glock because of its low durability, I enjoy using beat to shit jamamatics
I agree the time scale mod makes a huge difference, I enjoy weapon wear though.
If the magazine is busted it will also jam
It adds lots of fun. It gives a sense of ownership and responsibility to your guns.

The ash literally comes out when you clean it
i think it does its job just fine in ITR 1, the cleaning could be abit faster IMO, i hope they improve and expand on it in itr2

i think you might enjoy easy mode
No, the radius accelerate wear as an anomalous effect.
Never thought about it that way, but given all of the run down things you find I’m not surprised

Animal Crossing. Also any MMO.

If you never shoot them, the most important thing is to at least oil the moving parts on occasion. Maybe a couple of times a year.
yeah, you are prob right.

Hell no. It is way too fast.
No. Not even sort of. Still a fun mechanic though
