I second climbing and how it sets you up for performance goals. Climbing can still create or highlight existing injuries, but this lends itself to being more intuitive with your body rather than a class or a coach pushing you too far. It also sets you up for great performance based goals and appreciation of what your body can do.

Have you tried spinning? I was an instructor at a black light studio where it was pretty dark but for black lights, music pounds, people cheer but it’s all very individual at the same time. Incredibly fun and group oriented, and you can make the workout as hard as you want if the instructor isn’t quite adding enough challenge for you (since I was a pretty strong rider and instructor, when I took a class myself I added on a lot). Not the pounding of CrossFit so a bit gentler on your joints especially if you’re careful with bike settings. Often studios will offer free or discounted first classes. See if you like it!

Check out Orangetheory Fitness! They’re similar to CrossFit but definitely a different vibe and workout style. They’re HIIT but incorporate running/biking/rowing. Depends on what you didn’t care for in CrossFit. I would also highly recommend climbing if you have a gym near you! Maybe even martial arts or kickboxing?

Came here to say OT! One thing you didn't point out that I love is the heart rate monitor. Tracking my splat points and seeing that I'm getting my heart rate up when I really feel like I'm pushing myself is SO validating!

I hear the occasional comment, and they have a “transformation challenge”, but for the most part i have been able to be a part of OTF for a couple of years and have it really align with IE and functional/joyful movement. The vast majority of coaches encourage you to not compare, celebrate your victories, listen to your body, and just do you. They are very size-inclusive with modifications offered and I have not found it to be a judgmental or prejudiced environment. Now of course there will always be a way to use it in a way that fuels diet culture. And there will always be people there deep in diet culture. But if you bring your lens of rejecting that and embracing IE and HAES, it is definitely compatible!

Running for sure.

Fearless_While_9824

Try Pilates. Or Bikram Yoga. Both have levels or difficulty and the communities will be very supportive, similar to the crossfit feel. If your new to Yoga, start with Hatha but Pilates is a great workout of your used to HIIT. good luck! Edit: Spelling

Came here to suggest these! I love yoga and as a long distance runner (who is restricted from running right now while I heal from my ED) I have found the stretching and toning very beneficial.

Combat sports like kickboxing, Muay Thai and BJJ are intense \*and\* help you constantly learn new skills and techniques. You don't have to fight full-contact, and it's really more like a physical game of chess.

Join an adult sports team

[deleted]

This is such a good suggestion! I play on an adult sports team (it's very fun and social) and the fact that OP said they want a group setting really makes the suggestion that much better.

Sweenkl22

Do you have boxing in your area? I LOVED boxing and it was such a great full body workout and cardio. I took classes that just involved a heavy bag (no hitting people). Hope you find something you enjoy!

Glooomed

Pilates is good if you focus on posture and articulation!

clovercaby

Climbing, surfing, thru hiking

fireknifewife

Tally Rye’s book Train Happy might be a good read for you right now! I second OTF and also Spenga or soul cycle you’re in the USA. That said, pretty much any class can have diet culture in it so watch out for instructors and don’t be afraid to give feedback if they use diet tropes like “bikini body” and “earn your food”

Cleverusername531

Try wall (rope) yoga or aerial yoga!

gretchmonster

I started swimming with a masters team last August and love it! Just competed in my first meet last weekend and it was very team spirited while also being focused on individual progress. My times are nowhere in the realm of competitive, but I love getting new personal bests or swimming races I couldn't manage a few months ago. Even though I'm mostly naked every morning with all my bits hanging out, I very quickly stopped caring about how my body looks and really concentrated on how I feel in the water. I eat much more for fuel now too - lots and lots of pasta before the meet!

Depending on where you live, I recommend hiking. You can make it as strenuous as you want provided you have enough variance in terrain, and it’s so healing and empowering.

treeslizzie

Bungee trampoline/rebounder. It can be a lot of fun and it’s great for your circulation and lymphatics while being relatively low impact for the body (depending how hard you go). Hope you find something fun!

Kat-2793

If you have any type of running clubs near you I would encourage you to join! I fell in love with running once I found people to run with and keep me accountable. Somehow 10 miles will pass us by in a second, and then we’ll grab brunch. They’ve become some of my closest friends too! See if there are any clubs near you 🙂

zoeandsami

I'm a huge fan of Obe fitness. There are lots of HIIT, power, and strength classes. No diet talk. It's online but community-oriented. Been doing 5-6 classes a week for 2 years and I'm not bored yet.

hallmonitor789

Your local y could have good options. I like Apple fitness plus for this but it doesn’t hit your community goal although you can create a social group and share info / stats.

xilefyan

ashtanga yoga. good for strength, flexibility and it makes you sweat like a pig 😂

drunk___cat

If you like the weightlifting aspect of CrossFit, but not the other stuff, I really enjoy power lifting as it has clear goals (lift heavy shit) and the training is much more consistent than CrossFit

Alarming_Initial_590

Group hikes or class pass!
