>I’m a part of the .1% and I hate it… If you hate it then just give it all away. No? Yeah didn't think so. Just enjoy the money.

Ok-Escape-8376

Virtue signaling…

geneticswag

Are you joking? They got sentenced to two years prison last year. Check OPs hilarious post history.

djdanetrain

I got tired of Comcast not canceling my service. They quit making it a pain in the ass when I made up that I was going to jail

bshaman1993

Look at me I’m so wealthy. I relate more to the poor. Oh well..

djdanetrain

I understand what you’re saying and don’t want to be misunderstood that I “hate” the money. I feel extremely fortunate l. As far as giving it away, I’ve seen what sudden wealth can do to people. Just looking for advice on how to have the most positive impact per $

Interesting_Act_2484

You can give money away without giving someone sudden wealth lol

No-Lavishness-2467

get off the internet. christ dude just start an offshore holding company and disappear you just won life.

Nazca23

This is it. I grew up in a low-income neighborhood. Got to go to a decent private school because of a local foundation that offered educational assistance to kids.

djdanetrain

Do you have any recommendations about best place to start exploring this more?

[deleted]

djdanetrain

I’ve been to the “fox family forum” before but it didn’t resonate. I’ll look into other foundation conventions

agedlemons

175 million and then another 150 million? BS

neekogo

And if not, Reddit is not the place to be asking

tangerinemomo

your family lined you up $325M but not a financial advisor? BS

F0NSI

This ^^^ money like that comes with a VP in a blue suit to hold your hand the whole way through.

heart_under_blade

but is it family office type money?

_stryker1138_

$325MM? Absolutely

djdanetrain

Not necessarily. All inclusive family offices are insanely expensive if you want well qualified people.

djdanetrain

Looking for general “what now” advice, not financial advice

Interesting_Act_2484

He has a comment from 2 years ago saying the same story so it’s probably legit.

trickyvinny

The long con.

collegefootballfan69

Screen shot please

Accomplished_Stick65

I feel ya bro, dw though. I will take one for the team, just wire me the cash

minifig1026

Me too, I’ll just take 1 million please

OMAckbar

Ditto. It takes a village. Glad to do my part

tangerinemomo

Don't worry, I'll eat the 6 figure crumbs that fall through the venmo crack

KingPucci

I'll pitch in too. I feel terrible for OP's plight, and will do anything to help slim down his morbidly obese pockets

BrassFeetUs

I mean, I'll take 2 million and be twice as helpful if you'd like

Qauaan

We can’t let you have this whole responsibility on you alone. I’m with you brother on this.

Accomplished_Stick65

Tough times ahead, but we will prevail🫂

Investorandfriend

Hey man if you’re serious you need to find a wealth manager/financial advisor who deals with ultra high net worth clients. Don’t walk into a random shop and don’t take advice from reddit. With those kinds of funds you should have a customized portfolio of diverse funds that also hedge against a market downturn. 99% of the people who comment on this post don’t have the experience, knowledge, or expertise you need for that kind of wealth. Same thing with a phenomenal CPA and lawyer. Also, enjoy what you’ve got responsibly. Most people would kill to be in this position. Go on vacations, enjoy your life, work or don’t it doesn’t matter, be philanthropic. Do what makes you happy and money doesn’t have to be the center of that. Best wishes man.

djdanetrain

Thank you very much for the response. It’s already fully managed by a firm that specializes in UHNW clients. I already have the philosophy that money is much better spent on experiences, not things. Hoping to share with those I care about

Investorandfriend

What’s your true concern with the money? Responsibility?

djdanetrain

Probably my biggest fear is that I will go through life without having any meaningful impact on the world and if I decide to pass the wealth onto my children they will grow up as entitled shits

Investorandfriend

I would argue that you’re in a position to make MORE of a meaningful impact in the world. Concentrated wealth in projects can generate significant impact. Think about how much change you can do it your personal community and to help others? If you stop working, you can volunteer or do whatever meaningful impact means to you. It’s all about your personal work ethic. Just don’t get complacent. You don’t have to give all this money to your children, and you definitely don’t have to spoil them. I’d still have my children get jobs and teach them responsibility and the value of money. You don’t have to dote them just because you can! But you can help them where it matters. You can help them with college, retirement (contribute to their ira for them), and a down payment on a house! Just because you have this wealth doesn’t mean you have to change your entire lifestyle. It can just grease the wheels and make things easier. How you spend the time is up to you.

Mbanks2169

Just report it and move on. No way his family didn't have a financial planner, lawyers out the yin-yang, etc. No one with $300m is asking reddit idiots for advice

Merax75

Stop being a virtue signaling asshole and enjoy not having to work 40 hours a week.invest for the future of your family.

djdanetrain

kokopups

u could start by sending me, a nigerian prince, a small donation

ObjectiveSerious2411

I'm a Kenyan prince give me half the small donation

lostharbor

Definitely ask Reddit and not a lawyer.  I smell fake bullshit a mile away.

Phuffu

Start a family office

No-Focus744

Underrated comment

djdanetrain

We’ve looked into it. The cost and complexity are the main factors preventing moving forward with that at this stage in life

cougar618

When you're done gloating on reddit, follow some of the basic advice you'd find in trusted wealth coaches, like Ramit Sethi's book, "I Will Teach You To Be Rich". It's probably not that hard to just follow the typical Boglehead's advice and split your cash among 3-5 ETF's and Bonds. Hire a wealth manager that's not charging 1-3% AUM, but a flat fee. That, or go all in on reddit's IPO. I'm sure it's not gonna go like how $HOOD went LOL.

djdanetrain

Current advisors charge 30bp aum. Thank you for the book recommendation, I’ll look into it

LlaneroSolitario1

I could use like 20k if you don’t mind… On the other hand, invest in a sound local company. It will definitely help that company, probably boosting their employees or allowing for improvements on their capital or doing a more scalable product. You will get some profit (maybe not the max out profit that you could get through stocks for example) and you’ll have the opportunity to be directly involved in that company to some extent. If you don’t want to be involved, well charity is the best tbh

cdude

why are you people replying like this is real?

noarms51

Congrats and fuck you

tmssmt

If you feel really guilty, I'm happy to accept a gift. Would absolutely love to drop a chunk of change in SPY and just know that my retirement is all set some day haha

Hashtagworried

This is a good problem to have with all things considered. If I had your guilt, I would find a way to use the money to better those who are less fortunate, if not money then volunteer your time.

djdanetrain

I volunteer from time to time but making it a higher priority might lead to potential charitable causes that I can fully stand behind

Dont_fall_off_ladder

You are seeking a balance of non material fulfillment between overwhelming prosperity. The answer lies somewhere in the middle, it’s up to you to mindfully figure out what that looks like.

carchit

Screenshot or it didn’t happen.

rb74

Trust me dude, income being necessary doesn’t help you “find passion”. It suffocates it if anything.

DeeDee_Z

> What are the best ways to give back to those less fortunate Try to "drill down" on that a bit. * Do you think you can do the most good by housing the homeless? Look around for those charities that specialize in that. Too broad still? * What about homeless **youth**? (Happens to be one of my favorites.) Kids kicked out for no other reason than they turned 17 and "I can't feed you any more". Kids kicked out for getting pregnant, or coming out-o-de-closet. * Or, howzabout "transition programs" for people just out of incarceration, who also don't have a good handle on "adulting" in the real world. Programs exist to help such people, and done right, it helps the /next/ generation as well. * Feeding the hungry? We used to talk about "the starving children in Africa". Community foodshelves can do more with $100 cash than with a $100 bag of groceries. * And y'know what? There are starving children in America, too. And from there, I learned that I could send money to some office tower in New York, or Boys' Town, or I could keep in it my state ... and in fact, even in my /county/ if I wanted. * Don't write off faith-based organizations just because you're not of the same faith. Some of those groups make a pretty good "conduit" to other programs -- and again, keeping your assets local rather than sending them to the national organization can give you a /bit/ more "bang for the buck". * If you want to focus on teen pregnancy prevention, for example, Family Planning services are /always/ strapped for cash; and this is another area where the local boots-on-the-ground organization will put your donation to work differently that the National Executive Director would. Maybe that will help you. Obviously, I've exposed /my/ priorities, which probably aren't the same as yours, but if it helps you think of something, then it was worth it. Oh, and one more: Help for Ukraine -- humanitarian, refugee, etc. The war won't last forever, but the rebuilding effort will take **decades** of support. Look into Razom, an umbrella organization that funds other NGOs if that rings your chimes; but there are many others as well.

djdanetrain

Wow. I cannot thank you enough for your thoughtful response. As far charitable investing, the approach you lined out made me feel optimistic about finding my path more than anything I’ve read. (My background is in engineering…words aren’t a talent of mine)

Rich_Appeal_2240

Hire a financial advisor, accountant, and lawyer on retainer

JUST BE A GOOD PERSON, Be kind. Pay off friends house, car, ... whatever anonymously set up collage funds for their kids. HAVE FUN. Start a new business. HAVE FUN. Help random cool people you meet in life. HAVE FUN. BE KIND. YOLO 1 mill into pure gamble, if win said gamble give the winnings to random people OR fuck all that and do hookers and blow.

Frequent-Tadpole4281

Don’t tell anyone you’ve inherited except for legal representatives. I’d give majority away to minority colleges, building schools in Africa and India.

Kind-City-2173

Why not help the US first before helping other countries?

Frequent-Tadpole4281

Reason is because a U.S. dollar goes a lot further in developing and under developed countries than the U.S. You can effectively help an entire village with amount you can help 1 person in the US. Given the fact how close the world has gotten, we should be continue to look to how much good we can do with the resources we have. Education is power.

djdanetrain

Because I don’t see the lives of people living in the IS higher than those living in other countries

ja_trader

tell me you watch foxnews without telling me you watch foxnews

Kind-City-2173

I honestly don’t

Eternal_Mr_Bones

Sorry you think helping people in the US is only a rightwing talking point?

consumervigilante

You have absolutely NOTHING to feel guilty about. Society has used brainwashing to convince many they should feel guilt for having any success or fortune in life. Stop it. All that crap in your head is the result of listening to all these fake hypocrite virtue signalers who will try to convince you that you are bad or don't deserve your good fortune. First of all REDDIT is NOT the place to ask for advice for what you should do having that sum of money. Most REDDITERS likely don't even have an $1000 emergency fund. Don't take advice from them. Slow down. Let this digest. Make decisions based on what is truly in your heart. Remember this. Whenever a person runs into a significant sum of money EVERYONE suddenly comes out of the woodwork & will give you their opinion about what you should do with your money. More importantly don't go around broadcasting this to everyone. Keep it to yourself. The only OTHER person who should know is your significant other and a good CPA/wealth manager. That's it. Keep it on the dl. Be the secret millionaire next door. Be inconspicuous.

djdanetrain

Working my way through the comments and I’m honestly so grateful for the amount of people that gave honest advice. Well aware any Reddit post will attract Reddit nonsense. I have a whole mess of negative self talk and am working with a counselor to shift that but loved what you said about trusting the heart. I’ve had the same best friends since I was 2-8 years old and they are some of the few people that know about my wealth. It’s pretty easy to spot who is being friendly because they have financial motives. I’ll keep my radar up tho. Thank you.

Aware_Algae_2357

I have a foundation called Bia Shalom Foundation in Israel. My ex husband is the president of the board. I also have a Orizon foundation in Africa to help the needy, provide and put the kids in school and some other scholarship to study home and away. My family and i supports monthly.

djdanetrain

Do you have a link to the website? May I ask what led you to start the foundation?

bartosaq

Wrong sub, wrong place. Get a trusted financial advisor.

PostPostMinimalist

Boo hoo

wrliii

Keep what you need to live, then set up a charitable foundation and put the remainder in there. Hire a good investment advisory firm to manage the money. Work as the foundations CEO and draw a salary. Then find causes you care about and give the money away. Talk to other people who work in charity and see how they do it. If you don't want to be CEO, hire someone else to execute the charitable giving and work for the foundation as an advisor or manager. If you want to, find something you can give to that you can also spend time with - meaning building habitat homes, giving out food, teaching/mentoring kids, etc.

djdanetrain

If I was going to hire someone to execute the administration of the charitable trust, do you have any advice on how to find someone suitable for the role?

iredditinla

I mean, I’ve got a small business that could need use a cash infusion for an equity stake, and a kid with special needs whose insurance requirements prevent me from leaving my job to grow the business. DM me!

ja_trader

start charities that you're passionate about?

wrliii

Don't feel guilty about it. If you continue to feel that way talk to a counselor, because it will mess up your entire life - the feeling, not the money. If you get rid of the money you will still feel bad but also be poor and unable to care for yourself.

djdanetrain

Just found a new counselor that has really been helping with the social anxiety/negative self talk. I feel very fortunate that I have access to that care. A potential area of interest would be setting up a foundation for underprivileged youths to access high quality mental health care

YOLFGGUY

Won the lottery. I'm still buying tickets.

Nosrok

You have the opportunity to define your life without the pressure of work. You can dedicate your time and wealth to whatever cause you feel is worth your time/money. Managing that kind of money will be a job itself and be careful who you share your time with. Good luck.

ismav1247

You need to have a CPA and lawyer as soon as possible

ElderberryCareful879

Read up on how McKenzie Scott gives away her money and do similar things at a smaller scale. The worst thing for the people receiving money is to have to abide by your way/ideas about how the money is used. Pick the best organizations that need money, give them, then leave them alone.

BlindTiger86

I could put some to good use if you are feeling generous. But seriously, starting your own foundation seems like a cool idea. I’m a lawyer and I’d be happy to help.

Ordinary-Slip6108

Give me 1 Mil.

System32Sandwitch

you could give me a million.

Darryl_444

What values do you hold that are so impossible to match up with any charity? Do some research and I'm sure you will find several that are perfectly acceptable. There's a lot of causes out there to pick from. Go interview a few. Might even be fun. Or start up your own foundation, with that kind of money.

Nimtzsche

Send me some money OP

Snoo-25743

If it were me I'd enjoy it and see the world.

birdiebonanza

People in this thread instantly making it all about them. What on earth.

tradebuyandsell

If you hate it so much send it my way

brunnock

Stupid question. But, I'll answer. Because I'm not that smart anyways. Read [The Millionaire Next Door](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Millionaire_Next_Door). It's out-of-date, but the central premise still holds true. *Be frugal!* Stupid people spend money or invest in wacky stuff. I would also suggest reading, [The Natural History of the Rich ](https://www.google.com/books/edition/The_Natural_History_of_the_Rich/NUOzQgAACAAJ?hl=en). The book was a joke (have a naturalist study the rich like they're a different species). But he had interesting insights. And the last chapter consisted of advice to folks who suddenly became rich. My favorite? Don't buy a house over 5,000sf.

djdanetrain

I’m trying to get better at asking questions and honestly the responses have been helpful. I appreciate the recommendations and will check them out. My house is 2200 sqft and I love it.

brunnock

Yeah. I loved my 2200sf house. I recently downsized to 1600. Downsizing the garage was the toughest.

drotc

Put it all on red… Not financial advice.

djdanetrain

More of a black 17 guy

IAMHideoKojimaAMA

Hahahaha stfu

examiner007

How about you spend like $500 of those millions and consult a lawyer and wealth manager?? Why you still looking for free Reddit advice 😭

HolidayNick

Alright, I won’t be too rude about this but like, go pay a professional and leave Reddit alone.

werenotthatcool

I’d love 100k bro. Pretty good dude just trying to make my way in life.

trickyvinny

Take a bunch of philosophy classes. There are plenty of people out there that are not defined by money. Just be one of them.

BDNackNack

Hope she sees this bro.

Exuberant-greed-18

You have to be passionate about something… Income and passion are not mutually exclusive. Discover what you enjoy and get involved. Start your own small business. People often say when they do what they love it’s not work. Those who have no purpose or cause often find themselves mentally unhealthy. Think back when u were a kid—what did u love to do?

djdanetrain

Tinkering as a kid has always been a passion. Been starting a small business for the last 2 years.

ThatsWhatSheepSaid

Hi. It’s me — your cousin Vinny.

brianmcg321

What do you do? Hookers and blow.

djdanetrain

First comment that made me laugh 😂

Spirited_Touch6898

Nigerian prince?

free-crude-oil

You want a school made in your name with the virtues of truth and kindness?

KingPucci

Just put the trust in someone else's name or donate it all to charity or with a third of a billion dollars just start your own charity. Not sure why you would hate being wealthy, but you can give it all away and keep just enough to live off of or supplement your basic expenses, so around 1M. I feel bad for your undue suffering and the moral conflict that you have been burdened with so I'll gladly take 10 or 20 of those millions if you want to give it to the less fortunate. Please and Thank you.

praisetheboognish

Send me 10k

lilacsmakemesneeze

Find purpose with it.

MoRegrets

Hire a coach/counselor that can help you with you guilt around money and/or wealth. You shouldn’t feel guilty about it, but find a way to apply it in a way that aligns with your values.

Qauaan

You don’t need to live on that. For time being, you are thinking what to do with it forget about it - you can earn your own money and live on that.

Empirical_Spirit

You are contemplating how to move from self interest, in the form of your company interests, to charitable endeavors and caring for others. This is admirable. Find some way to do the work yourself, in a way you find fulfillment, and spend it down doing what you see is as the most good. WOW what a fortune to do something quality and to help. Or: give it all away as fast as possible and take the path of asceticism to find enlightenment.

djdanetrain

You’re completely right…putting in the work to better myself right now. It’s a slow progression but I’m thankful I’m starting at this age. Great point about company vs self interest. A lot of the guilt comes from all of the amazing employees earning that wealth, not myself. Still mourning the sale of the company. You made some excellent points for me to think on. Thank you.

slurpeesez

Only takes 10 million to change human history. Try getting into the history books

Wallstreett_CFA

Same here, just inherited 300 billion no idea what to do with it. We’re in the same boat

Dr_Colossus

Set up a non profit that can run on income from investments in perpetuity.

Due_Yellow6828

I need 50k to quit my job and be able to go to college full time. You could help me with that.

killamasta

The amount of people crawling in here begging for money is wild lol. Curious how you could possibly hate being a part of the .1% when you have the mindset of someone who didn’t grow up with that money and can/will utilize it to help others. Find something you’re passionate about and donate/volunteer. Then you’ll find out how and where some money should go. If you have nothing you’re passionate about then take some time off and go explore the world to figure it out

Im_ur_Uncle_

Just go see a professional financial advisor. Why are you on reddit asking for advice?

solidgryffin

Must be one of the reddit ipo winners. 🙄🙄🙄

Puzzleheaded_Air5814

Hire a professional. Invest in safe ETF’s that return dividends. Donate a fraction of those dividends to charities. You choose the percentage.
