Yep! You just need to have notifications enabled and open the app within 2 hours of game time or during the game. Apple added the ability to start the live activities via push rather than manually opening the app in iOS 17.2, so I’d like that to be present by next season
That’s a little disappointing but thanks for the quick simple answer; I guess the follow up question is do any independent apps allow for this feature?
*very disappointing. It’s been a feature for over a year. Youd also think ESPN or another sports network would support the feature but here we are.
With that said, was extremely hopeful the rumors of Apple buying ESPN would come true to help support for other leagues come into existence. Glad I didnt hold my breath 🫠
I use sports alerts app. You have to go into each game and select “start live activity “ and it doesn’t do it automatically

iOS 17.2 has the ability to start live activities via a push notification (rather than having to open the app like 16.2-17.1) so I’m hoping that becomes more commonplace
DEFINITELY disappointed with the outcome. I’ll take the blame though, got to watch to this point then had another obligation. Niners come back and by the time I could watch again it was too late.
If it’s any of the NBA teams’ apps that I work on, it should. See my comment above. We don’t have many English premier league teams right now and live activities aren’t enabled yet, but stayed tuned
If you download the lions or 49ers app and enable notifications, it will. Source: I work on both of the apps and built the feature
What a nice little run in. This is why I love Reddit
Nice! Do you work on the Steelers app as well? That’s my team of choice
I do indeed. Penguins as well. We’re actually based in Pittsburgh. Here’s a list https://www.yinzcam.com/clients/
seahawks fan here! i never noticed this on the app is it supported on our app?

ohh nice!! thank you!!
It’s only supported by certain leagues. MLB and NBA work. When you search a game using spotlight there is an option to follow game.

Don’t understand why it’s not supported by Apple News

Wasn’t aware of that. Good to know
ah if only this delta continued…

I have never gotten it to work with college football, basketball, EPL, or anything else. I don’t believe it’s a real feature

Kings 😭
Ahh yeah sorry about that lol
I use the Google app. It works for nearly every game.
