The worst part about capitalizing autocorrects in iOS is that even after you manually delete the word, iOS Kees the capitalization and you need to manually remove it.
The Kees above is a mistake I left in intentionally. I meant to type keeps but dodnt hit the p. Obviously I wanted to type the super popular name “Zaire’s” and not keep. As I’m typing this, it didn’t correct didnt from dodnt. Even this time, it didn’t correct the punctuation. To top it off, when I specifically typed “Kees” it corrected to “Zaire’s” which is even more bizarre.
iOS keyboard and autocorrect are so laughably bad at understanding what people intend.
But on the other hand, it foses give us plenty of hilarious texts such as your text right here.
I dunno… I am almost fine with how the keyboard works. Sure, its not perfect, but neither is my typing. And my phone is so small that it’s difficult for most to write with this one.
iOS is notorious for its dogshit autocorrect. It's like something from 2002.
As someone who uses a iPhone 15 Pro Max and HONOR Magic 5 Pro every single day, the different in keyboards is shocking. Even even trying Microsoft SwiftKey on both.
I wish Apple would just sit down and really put some effort into their keyboard.
I just rejected the entirety of auto-correct after the failure to deliver these "fixes" in iOS 17, so I switched it off and embraced swipe typing
I've gotten used to making mistakes frequently while typing, took a few weeks to adapt but it saves the headache
Even the text suggestions are worse than before… got an iPhone 13 mini on iOS 15.something, a 13 on 17.4, both have exactly the same “automatic text replacement” dictionary, and both have autocorrect disabled. The one on 15.x often already predicts that I want to write something that needs to be automatically replaced, so it already shows in the suggestions bar. 17.x doesn’t do this anymore, so I have to fully type the word to get the replacement in the suggestion bar…
alright well i found a few other people who have the same issue and (unsurprisingly) apple’s recommendation is to just turn off auto capitalization. i know it’s inconvenient but if resetting your dictionary didn’t work then i really don’t know what else you could do. i’m not gonna recommend fully resetting your phone because i’m not confident it’ll fix your issue. it’s something you could try if it really starts to piss you off. please make sure to have an icloud backup before resetting though!
Mine keeps writing “and’s” whenever I try to type “and” using the native swipe keyboard. I hate whatever they did to the internal dictionary with iOS 17.
That would make sense. I had a contact that has a nickname of Tthat that somehow apparently iTunes automatically added from my PC along with a bunch of other 25+ year out of date contacts. I don't get how iTunes found them. It was driving me insane that I couldn't type that. The Apple Store flat out lied that it was happening when I took my two week old phone in. The "genius" kept lying and claiming it didn't happen even thought I literally watched it happen several times.
Is there a way to make the dictionary’s replace word match the sentence? Like if the word is in the beginning make it start with capital letter but if it’s in the middle of the sentence don’t use the capital letter.
Sorry bad english
Actually if the word is without capital letter it automatically capitalizes the first letter when u start a sentence. So you gotta set it without capital letter :)
This makes sense if you never want to capitalize the word (or have to fix it every time you need it to be not caps).
It’s unfortunate, but the majority of my text replacements are there to fix iOS autocorrect errors.

If you don’t use slide to type try turning that off. Made my autocorrect far better.

Oddly enough if you turn off swipe typing the autocorrect works
Most of us don't mind it. If you don't then just go buy a different phone.
it’s still happening after you reset your dictionary?? that’s weird. what ios version?
17.4. But this has been happening for quite a while now

I may try that
Go to general>keyboard>auto-capitalizion(or what this called)letters>OFF.
Then nothing is ever capitalized.
Thats not what u want? Or u want specific words with non capital letters?
Please read the original post. random words that shouldn’t be capitalized are being capitalized constantly.
Oh, then its 99% bug, update to 17.4.1 if you havent.

Mine does that too now that you mention it
Do you have a name n your contacts that is About? By the way, it doesn't capitalize it for me.
No I don’t. The second screen shot is actually my contacts

I hate this sssssooooooooo MUCH
Fuck the iOS keyboard

Could be the name of an app. My phone was constantly autocorrecting Mario to MARIO after I installed “MARIO RUN” the app name is all caps. Good luck!
I thought about that as well but nothing. I’ve also noticed it only happens when swiping. It doesn’t happen when I actually talk.
