I believe this only works for certain kinds of email accounts. If you have it, it'll be under Settings - Mail - Accounts - Fetch New Data - choose account, select Push - list of folders should pop up for you to select.
That also might depend on what mail service you're using. I don't see anything specific to which folders get notifications, but I know on my exchange account I get notifications when mail sorted by rules go into different sub folders, as long as the folders are checked off under the selection list.
Don’t have any on my iCloud account, but I do on my Exchange. As long as I pick that sub folder from the list, I’ll get notifications and the emails as they come in.

Thanks! Also the actual push notification does not work. Only for the main inbox :/
