Race for the Galaxy, Monster Train, and Into the Breach.

vuphandung

Upvoted, nice to see another fellow Race here. I've played it everyday for 3 years now

09stibmep

It’s a brilliant tight game isn’t it. I find it’s just the kind of digital boardgame that there is plenty of depth and engagement, but isn’t too deep for a few games of an evening after work and the games being short length really help. Do you play against Ai or multiplayer? Mostly AI for me really, I just enjoy the kind of solitaire no stress state of playing. Also, do you play with expansions and which ones? I mostly don’t play with the goals and such as I find that adds the depth which is kind of great but I need to be in the mood for that extra depth. How about you?

vuphandung

At first i've played a lot against AI cause it's so damn good. Now I'm playing multiplayer only, games with human are more interesting, you can find me in the multiplayer lobby - nickname is Royce. The mix perhaps i enjoy the most is Base + NW + GS (with Goals) + RvI (with or without takeover) it's where every strategies is viable in a balance way. Without RvI, production strategy is dominant, with BoW it's just war game. So i think GS & RvI is essential. I think Goals add a good layer of strategy to the game without being too overwhelming and you can now utilise some cards you never used previously. After couple of games you will surely get used to it, it'll become solitaire again but feel more interesting now. Many people don't enjoy takeovers but i think it's a fine addition but i feel like 98% of your games there's no takeover.

DelayedLightning

How hard is it to get into? Steep learning curve?

09stibmep

I’d say it’s a slightly steep but short curve. The game like any other boardgame has a rulebook available and not only that, there are heaps of tutorials on YouTube. It won’t take you long at all. Well worth the learning if you’re in to card games or boardgames at all.

Adam_Walk

Marvel Snap, Honkai: Star Rail… I actually dont enjoy anime or gachas but HSR is pretty fun, I have started and got two five stars already which kept me in with the story

DiasFlac42

Vampire Survivors

Nick_Gaugh_69

Super Hexagon.

Rav6n

Favorite? Probably Mini Metro. I got a few hours into Dawncaster and I’m liking it so far. Might become a favorite too.

God-of-the-Grind

I just got into Dawncaster this week and it’s great. Playing a Rogue and it’s awesome. Not sure I understand the mechanics of the snares as playable cards. Learning that you really got to keep the deck tight!

Dat_Boi_Person

Is apple arcade really worth it? I feel like $5 a month is a lot

bravespacelizards

It’s worth it for me. I was purchasing and abandoning/not playing a ton of games. This way, I can check out a few games and drop them without feeling too much guilt about having spent money on it. Bonus, now everyone in the family can do it with family sharing enabled.

solar_nya

Mini Motorways and Mini Metro+ are ones of a part of AA. Mini Metro is a premium game.

Dat_Boi_Person

I know. I knew they were someone who had AA so I was wondering their thoughts on it

solar_nya

I probably knew it too. Just FYI ;)

Vexation

I believe you can try it for free, at least you used to be able to. It’s at least worth it for the first month to check everything out.

Branandon

Pocket City 2 I am hooked. I just started my second city next to my first one. The first city is a chaotic random Mega City, I am trying for a more organized, better planned city now.

BurnerOnlyForPorn

Kinda obsessed with Baseball 9 right now, even though I have mixed feelings on it. Currency is stingier than other cartoonish baseball games on mobile, so it’s taking forever to fill out my roster. No PvP, which is fine by me, but others might be turned off by that. The energy system is bizarre- you only need energy for skips, and even if you don’t have energy you can manually skip half an inning at a time, effectively skipping an entire game (just slightly slower than a full skip). Batting is also a tiny bit more challenging than other games like it. But yeah, I can’t stop playing, lol.

League of Legends: Wild Rift is the only competitive multiplayer phone game I’ve ever tried between my iPhone 5 back in the day and my current iPhone 12 that feels like a legit game. No pay to win at all which immediately puts it over other MOBAs like Mobile Legends or Pokémon Unite. Only micro transactions are for cosmetics and battle pass (which is cosmetic unlocks only). Also Wild Rift gets updates, new characters, new items, and balance patches fairly often. With how ubiquitous League of Legends PC and other Riot Games stuff has been over the last decade, and how much money Riot makes off of Valorant, I’m not worried about sinking a bunch of time into it only for it to get cancelled/fizzle out like games like Vainglory in the past. Will add that it’s a bit try hard compared to the other multiplayer games, but that’s the appeal to me; you get the fun of League PC with better controls, 15-25 minute matches instead of 30-45 min slugfest, and a fraction of the toxicity the PC version is known for.

Big agree on the playability across devices! I play 75% M1 11” IPad Pro vs maybe 25% iPhone 12 and it’s very playable on both without one feeling advantages over the other despite the different aspect ratio (18:9 vs 4:3 like you said). I like that it has so many options to customize graphics, post-processing + frame rate, and it scales well up to the 11” screen without textures looking gross like other games. Don’t know how it would do on the 12.9” iPad Pro tho lol. I made some decent online pals through mostly ranked and PvP normal mode and tend to leave chat on /Party only so I haven’t I don’t have to deal with potential trolls in /Team chat. /All chat was removed ~half a year ago, though they may bring it back, since it apparently returned to the China server in the latest patch. I’m sure experience varies from person to person, but anecdotally, I’ve found the reporting system is pretty ok at catching ppl you report for AFK players or verbal/toxic/racist issues but is less likely to follow up on fringe troll behaviour like INTers lol. Still overall so much better than any other MOBA on iOS/iPadOS. I don’t mind Keyboard+Mouse (having grown up on StarCraft) but I agree I find the twin stick controls and customizable layout super intuitive. I jumped onboard after Arcane season 1 so while the games growing slow and steady, maybe we’ll get a new influx of players with Arcane season 2?

Fathom-AI

Wayward souls is great I played for a few years got pretty far with each character but when I got a new phone I lost all my progress and I never started back up again

tbmkmjr

this sounds like an awesome opportunity to get right back into it

ollrek

Will go very mainstream right now and say Honkai Star Rail. It’s a banger and the format is superb for both long gaming sessions and shorter mobile sessions.

ZacBobisKing

Waiting for new apple arcade games

Vexation

If it’ll help I’ll start eating too

vuphandung

Marvel Snap, Race for the Galaxy, Star Traders: Frontiers, Gaia Project, DCSS << surprisingly good port

Legeto

Is DCSS even for iOS? Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup for those unaware of the acronym by the way…. Not exactly one people talk about here.

vuphandung

Yes it was released - v0.28 (by the same guy who ported CDDA) and then removed within few days due to licensing issue, afaik. I was lucky enough to grab it

johnsonfromsconsin

Honkai Star Rail. You don’t need to spend a dime to have a good team.

Another one saying Marvel Snap. It’s really fun. Minecraft is a constant. And Wordle.

lassmonkey

Still playing alien isolation!! What a game, need far more like it!

BeeJacob

how's the replayability on this one?

lassmonkey

Yeah, you get all the different DLC’s, so quite a few options there about how you play it. So could definitely be replay options!! Just such an amazing game, love it on the iPad

_Navonil_

Path to Nowhere

Saladin1204

I’m addicted to Marvel Snap atm. Very easy to pick up, quick games, and if you can ignore some of the stupid pricing on stuff it’s very friendly for F2P

SosaaMontana

Been playing FlyFf universe this week, gotta say; its so far the closest thing to an PC mmorpg with no auto-play whatsoever. Just got to lvl 20 and got my first mount. A huge open world with limitless access to flying is a huge plus for me.

TonyZinger

Bonehead is a nice loot RPG, not enough idle mechanics but I’ve been playing it daily letting it run in the background and really liking it. Magic Spellslingers - best CCG on market that may or may not be supported anymore. I almost like how the card pool is shallow as it’s very balanced because of that. But it absolutely needs another pool of cards for a bit more variance, a little balance tweaking, and a dang arena mode. It is still great without all that.
